Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Twitter and Facebook icons, not completly clickable
I can't figure this out, basically the icons in the footer for facebook and twitter (but twitter especially), don't seem to be completely clickable, as in only the top half of the icon is a link and can be clicked on.
I get this on my wifes site and this site
http://www.picaflor-azul.com/free-de...erdeen_neutral
I have tested in opera 11, Firefox 4, and chrome (can't test in IE9 as it is broken on my machine).
Its weird there basically seems to be a dead spot (unclickable patch) on each of the icons
on the twitter icon the dead patch starts just below the crossbar on the t and goes down to about 1px above the bottom of the icon?
anyone else seeing this

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Ok, I think its being caused by the sitelegal div overlapping the socialmedia div,
I have changed the width of the sitelegal div from 100% to 80% and that seems to have fixed it.
Just need to check in olde browsers and IE

Yes this is the fix. I am already aware of this and have added it to the list for a future update of the template package.

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Hi,
I am using zencart version 1.3.9h (just installed it on webhostinghub.com) and trying to replace default green template with the cool Aberdeen Neutral Template... Here is what I did for the replacement:
1)
I downloaded the zip file and extracted it on my local drive in the folder aberdeen_neutral ...
2)
uploaded the entire folder to /includes/Templates...Here is what I have now...
/includes/Templates
classic
template_default
aberdeen_neutral
I've added snapshot from both the admin menu and FTP files to confirm what I did...
3)
I don't see any option to change the template via zencart admin -> tools -> template selection
Please advice
Thanks in advance
-
Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
You should be copying the includes directory and all of its contents from the template package to the directory above your includes directory on your server.
Thanks,
Anne

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Just so I get it correctly...
you want me to upload new template folders (such as admin, cache, docs, download, includes, etc) and other files (such as install.txt, index.php) to the root directly (keeping the new template folder structure)...
a dumb question, isn't that going to replace existing folders...?
I'll do as per your suggestion, once I'll get your confirmation...
Thanks...

The template zip file comes with an includes directory. There is no admin, cache, etc. You need to copy the includes directory to your server. If you are using filezilla you will drag and drop the includes directory (from the template package) to the directory above the includes directory on your server. This is the directory that contains admin, cache, etc.

Anne

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
The template does not come with admin, cache, docs, download etc. The only folder included in the template package is includes. When you unzip the package you will see: includes, install.txt and license.txt. Download a fresh zip file and unzip it to an empty temp directory.
Thanks,
Anne

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Hi Anne,
I have installed this template and I am working on changing varous colours etc. I have however come to a small problem after following all the directions and I was hoping that you could help me.
When going to the admin panel Configuration -> Product Listing I do not have Product Listing Layout Style or Product Listing - Columns per 3 so that I can change these.
I do have 3 columns on front page, new products. specials but I have a single column for the products which I assume would be rectified if I could make the changes in the Admin-> Configuration.
Below is the link to my website
www.spiritconnectionart.com/catalogue
Can you please tell me where I have gone wrong in setting this all up.
Thanks :D

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Did you add the sql for the column layout grid mod? It's step 2 of the install.txt file:
Code:
===================================================
2. SQL File for Column Layout Grid Module (Optional)
====================================================
Run the following SQL commands into your database.
The easiest way is to open Admin->Tools->Install SQL Patch and paste them in the box and click Send.
INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value,
configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order,
last_modified, date_added, use_function, set_function)
VALUES ('Product Listing - Layout Style', 'PRODUCT_LISTING_LAYOUT_STYLE', 'rows',
'Select the layout style:<br />Each product can be listed in its own row (rows option)
or products can be listed in multiple columns per row (columns option)', '8', '40', NULL,
now(), NULL, 'zen_cfg_select_option(array(\'rows\', \'columns\'),');
INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value,
configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order,
last_modified, date_added, use_function, set_function)
VALUES ('Product Listing - Columns Per Row', 'PRODUCT_LISTING_COLUMNS_PER_ROW', '3',
'Select the number of columns of products to show in each row in the product listing.
The default setting is 3.', '8', '41', NULL, now(), NULL, NULL);
Thanks,
Anne

3) Replace the set of scrolling set of pictures in the middle of the page

Ummm.. yeah they are.. The reason you are referred to the install.txt file is because Anne has created a VERY complete installation file.. If you follow ALL the instructions in the install.txt file TO THE LETTER and don't gloss/skip over any steps, her templates install PERFECTLY..
From the install.txt file (please note the section you apparently overlooked):

I do the same in the mods I support for the same reasons.. Plus frankly since I try to take the time to write detailed instruction docs and, I don't want to repeat VERBATIM what's in a document I already crafted with the EXACT SAME information.. In my experience people it often seems like folks want to just copy over some files and TADA!!! it just works automagically!! Seems like lots of folks don't want to read all that blah blah blah.. Reading's for sissies!!! they just want their bleepin' add-on to work automagically with no more work required..
Okay.. I'm being spicy already.. Let me go cook.. My BIG annual party is tomorrow..
Anyway I was happy to post some useful information..

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Hi,
Here are my couple of questions:
1)
Apparently in the Categories section (on left hand side) there is a split b.w categories that I've created and "All Products ..."
I've noticed that in the demo, developer was able to add more items in the second split of the Categories section... May I know how to do that...?
plus, is there a way to create more splits...?
I am sure this must be somewhere in the install.txt file but can't seems to find it...
2)
when I created subcategories (by adding categories to categories) with the image it allowed my users to navigate from the top categories section to sub categories section...
my issue is that the image is appearing in a smaller size... may I know how to control the image size...?
Thanks again for your assistance, support through this platform is exemplary... I think I am almost there to start adding product now...

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Actually your questions have nothing to do with installing and configuring this template at all.. These are basic Zen Cart configuration question, and the best way to get answers is twofold:
- Search through the Zen Cart FAQs... (https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php) MANY common questions are answered there
- Post your question sin a NEW thread where the community can help you with your Zen Cart setup questions..

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Hi,
May I know how to increase the font of the sub-category (I am referring to the page that links from the category to the sub-category regions)...
Most of the posts on zen-cart refers to the stylesheet but unfortunately I wasn't able to find anything related...
given that I am not expert in the CSS coding, I changed all the font-sizes (one by one) to see if there is one available for sub-category... but found none...
Please advice...
Thanks

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Hi, love this template. Spent a fair bit of time adjusting it slightly to the way I want. Just a few things I cant get around or find the answer...
- Twitter and google links on the bottom... Would much prefer if they opened in Blank page to keep customers on the site..?
- On the horizontap top menu, where is shows "Home" "About" Login" etc... I have found that if an order is less that £100 it is all fine... But.. When you are legged in (more menu items) and order is over £100... Then the search box that is in the grey section moves down a few lines.. I would love to remove the "about us" from there to stop this dynamic menu messing with the layout..

Ok I figured out the Twitter adn facebook links eventually.. Found the links in a file called... tpl_footer_menu.php ... Added... target="_blank" ... into the 2 x hyperlinks at the bottom of that file..
Still have the other issue though...

blank space b.w social media icons and the links decreased...

may I know how to shrink the height of footer menu... I tried to change height from the code where it says
#footer {clear:both;margin:0;background-image:url(../images/footer-bk.jpg);background-repeat:no-repeat; width:950px; height:200px;margin-top:20px;padding-top:10px;margin-bottom:20px;}

Hi,
I did a lot of research before posting this on the forum... I even changed all the possible settings through admin -> configurations -> icons but apparently nothing is working for me...
the only way I was able to make a change is by disabling the option to "keep image proportion"... but in that way my image get's distorted and I don't want that...
can you please refer me to a previous discussion or advice how to fix this issue...

Hey there,
Thanks for the template, I am loving it so far and it has saved me tons of time trying to figure out how to insert a slider.
I have a question: Is there any way to delete the side boxes from ONLY the main page so that the slider can be designed to go the entire width of the page?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks so much.

Yes, this is no problem. Search the forum for how to remove sideboxes from the main page---it has been asked and answered many times.
If you read the readme file there are instructions on using images of different dimensions.

There was a lot of problems with this template to begin with since Jennifer was the not the original author.
I have completely re-written it to make it function 100%. Plus have added other goodies. My clients love it and there is no problem with it now.

And Anne didn't include one which IMHO is not a big deal considering she contributed this template for FREE. My point was that if you needed this information, that a quick looksee using a file comparison program is and easy enough way to get the information you needed.
Another thing to consider is perhaps hasn't been able to respond to requests for this information because she is busy at the moment and wouldn't be able to provide this information for a FREE template while working on work that pays the bills..(which is exactly what is going on based on a response for similar information requested in another support thread for another one of her templates..)

Excellent!! that's the point of free templates.. to use them as a starting point for your own great ideas.. Though I never had a problem with functionality with this template..

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Sorry for the confusion. Jennifer is my name, but I go by middle name Anne. Just way too many Jennifers in my generation
Sorry to have not included the list in the release, but I was quite pressed for time. I contribute these free templates in my free time, which is pretty sparse and getting sparser as the demand grows for custom zen cart design.

You don't need to apologize.. Not all mod authors include a list of changes files anyway.. (99% REALLY??? sounds like a random number) Many MAY include a list of files included (changed or otherwise) and a changelog..
Anyway.. The point is this: You created this template in YOUR free time, and then donated it to the community for FREE. You have supported it for FREE, and frankly girl IMHO that's more than generous and you owe no more to the community let alone an apology..
The list of changed files can easily be obtained by anyone willing to invest the time into getting this information for themselves if it's important, and not including it in a FREE contribution is MINOR since it's not like the information is UNOBTAINABLE..

Yeah I was confused about this too since I had NO issues with this template.. Unless he's referring to the MINOR fix required to get rid of the javascript error from the slideshow.. Which IMHO was MINOR since there was an EASY fix posted AND this fix has since been included in the new release of this template..

Hi Anne,
I actually had already done a search before posting. I found the code to use:
if ($this_is_home_page) {
$flag_disable_left = true;
$flag_disable_right = true;
}
and they say to put it into:
/includes/templates/your_template/common/tpl_main_page.php
but this file does not exist in your template (or at least in a place I can't seem to find) so I was worried it could not be done with your template. Glad it should be no problem but could you point me to the specific file where I have to put in the code and I can take it from there?
I had no problems getting the images to adjust. I also went over the read me file before posting and figured it out no problem.
Thanks for your help.

Sorry to have not included the list in the release, but I was quite pressed for time. I contribute these free templates in my free time, which is pretty sparse and getting sparser as the demand grows for custom zen cart design.
I have no idea what you are implying here. If you find any problems, it would be beneficial to the community post the fix.

This theme was originally written by blingthemes...and one of your original releases you forgot to remove their links. If you read back to your original release...yes their were problems. When questions were asked by new zenners...simply questions..you were very rude to them. Your sole purpose was not to help the community but to obtain work using Zen Cart and benefit financially from your so called "free themes". There are a lot of real great programmers who have written addons solely for the purpose of contributing to this community without the intention of financially benefiting from it.

If you are going to make such an accusation, then you need to back it up.. I've been through EVERY file in the original release of this theme and found no Blingthemes links/files. I'd like to know which Blingtheme this template is supposed to be lifted from?? Which files are these links in??

And again, if you are going to make such accusations, then you need to substantiate your claims.. Name ONE place in this entire support thread which support this accusation.
I've been here from the time this theme and all of Anne's themes were first submitted, and Anne has been nothing but nice and helpful to everyone. I see no place where her postings even come close to what you accuse her of.. There were no "problems" with this template. MUCH of this support thread is filled with posts from folks who did not install/configure the template correctly or were trying to expand the template for suit their own needs.. Anne has been helpful and responsive to all.. What are YOU referring to???

The file doesn't exist in the template package because I made no changes for it. If you need to edit this file you need to create an override for it.

No, you are 100% incorrect. I am not associated in any way with bling themes and wrote this template package myself.
You seen very confused--you are confusing me with someone else. I have never been rude to anyone asking questions, especially newbies. If people have questions that are unrelated to the template, I point them in the right direction.
As for benefiting financially from the templates, this is a real joke. At last count on July 8th, 2011, I had given away over 43,800 template packages at a retail value of over $6 million. Believe me when I say that I have received no where near that amount in donations  Probably close to $100.
Before making such a rude post, check your facts and at least get straight who it is you are talking to and about.
Thanks,
Anne

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Anne you don't need to respond to these false accusations at all.. It's easy enough to see (prove) that there's no merit to them.. I can attest to the fact that no such files (with blingthemes links) exist in ANY of your template packages..
Seems blingthemes has made some lofty claims on this forum in the past that the "Easy Slider plugin for jQuery" you used in your themes (and that blingthemes and other template contributors have also used in their themes as well) was CREATED by blingthemes.:laugh: .
I'm sure the good folks at CSS Globe would find this amusing since it is in fact their slideshow script. You and other template authors who've used this script have made no secret of it, made no claims to it's authorship and in fact have documented in your theme's documentation the inclusion of this slideshow script..
With regards to the "Easy Slider plugin for jQuery" slideshow, Blingthemes went so far with his claim of authorship as to accuse another template creator (who also has a STELLAR reputation here) of "stealing" the slideshow from him.. Perhaps Linux also bought into ridiculous allegation..

In fact, I just uploaded your original with your twitter/facebook urls and it still shows blingthemes. Even in another browser Firefox.
I know you don't have blingthemes anywhere, but I tested their Estorenow template not long ago. Somehow, somewhere, I'm kinda cross-overed? Looks like I cannot even put my url when I get one.
Unless some browser cache thing...?
I still have some estorenow files on server from testing, I probably should delete those and all templates I'm no longer interested in.

Ok so I looked at this again this morning and went on the hunt in my FTP program to see if there was any files that perhaps didn't look right or out of context with Anne's theme, low and behold I clicked on web/includes/extra_configures and in there was a file named estoreparameters.php, after downloading this and opening it up in my text editor it was full of Twitter/Youtube define statements and was obviously causing a conflict!!
Well all I can say is many thanks to Yourself and Anne for the help, I have managed to get 6 months into this without asking any questions and soley using the search function but had come to the stage where my eyes could not handle anymore!!
Once again Many Thanks:clap:

Hey that did the trick perfectly thanks! Like I said, I'm still pretty green to PHP. Didn't know all I had to do was copy the file.
Thanks again! And ignore that Linux guy... Dunno what his problem is but he comes off like a tool anyway so no one will take him seriously.

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Hey,
Sorry, I've got one more question that maybe you can help me with.
Here is my site in progress: http://brokenbird.ca/cart/
I'm trying to add a dropdown css menu where the red header info is: ie, the links to home/contact us/log in etc. So that it looks something like the one I designed here:
www.brokenbird.ca
I plan to leave the log in / shopping cart info but want to add my menu to it.
I have already added the appropriate .js files and edited the stylesheet.css document with the right code but for some reason I can't find where this header menu information is located so I can't experiment with placing my own menu. Could you point me to the appropriate file so I can play with it a bit?
I know this sounds like a bit of a lazy question but I really have been looking around for nearly an hour trying to find the right one.
Thanks,
Will

I would strongly recommend not trying to code this yourself, but starting from one of the great css drop down menus already in the free software downloads section. Then you can add your links into it. Be sure to check for files that need to be merged (off the top of my head you will have to merge the tpl_header.php and maybe another).
If you want to code from scratch you can edit the includes/templates/aberdeen_neutral/common/tpl_header.php file.
Thanks,
Anne

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Greetings!
Anne, thanks a bunch for this beautiful template. I've read through all of the pages in this forum but I don't see anyone one with the same issues, so...:
- the rounded light gray rectangles in the sideboxes aren't completely rounded. I checked your demo and see that it's rounded there but not on my site. Would this be a result of me installing something incorrectly?
- Sidebox: There seems to be a split/break in the New Products category heading. Is this due to the font size? How can I correct this break?
The link to my site is HERE.

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
Hi Anne,
I like your template but am having little trouble here:
I need to modify the HEADER_ALT_TEXT and HEADER_SALES_TEXT, I did this by modifying header.php in \includes\lang\aberdeen\header.php and uploaded to server, however, it is still there, why? am I missing anything? any where to double check?
Thank you.

Re: Aberdeen Neutral Template Support Thread
I came accross your templates and loved them. I have installed the aberdeen neutral followed the instructions and getting there. I have some problems.
When I tried to go throught the store and check everything I noticed that my guest checkout link is missing. and also the google checkout is there a way to get it back?
I was using apple_zen before I changed to aberdeen. I will await your reply.
And another question there is a lot of space between my slider and text on main page can I remove all that space. The site is buybackissuesonline.com

Any modules that you had installed in your old template will need to be re-installed in the new template to work. More specifically, any module files that are in override directories will need to be copied to the new template override directories.
I am seeing a ton of blank <p> tags in your code for the main page. These are causing the space.
Thanks,
Anne

If you're getting a blank page, go to your /cache folder and check for error messages.

You shouldn't have to add any extra code to get the slider to behave correctly. It works out of the box. If you are having problems I would recommend re-installing the template package or looking to a modification that you made.
Thanks,
Anne
