PWAS is this mod that we are all discussing in this thread "Products With Attributes Stock"

And products_attributes_checkstock doesn't exist :) So its no wonder you couldn't find it... what I was suggesting is that you ADD it (as a column) to the table called products_attributes. But don't mess with that unless you know what you are doing ;)

I was just throwing out a possible method for achieving what you want and maybe someone can run with it... it is a good idea. I've got a mile long list of things to get to for my own store and I have several requests on the table too, so I doubt I can do it for you any time soon. Buf for someone that is inclined, I don't think it is very hard at all.

However, if you don't know php very well and/or zencart then its not nearly as trivial as I'm making it sound.

okay i gave this a go today and managed to get it so that only thsoe attributes i want to include will be included.

the changes weren't many. my code is a little hacked right now but i will clean it up and post.

it was easy. ::tup all i did was creat a new field in the products attribute table called include_for_stock_qty set it to tinyint with a default value of 0

next i changed the admin/products_with_attributes_stock.php queries to include only those items flagged for inclusion.

ditto with classes/products_with_attributes_stock.php

it works great if i go into ohomyadmin and set the records I want to the proper value(it's easy for me since i only have one attribute this will ever affect.

what i have been trying to do is modify the admin/attribute_controller.php file and although i have managed to create a field for this on the form (i placed it alongisde all the flags at the end of the row) i can't seem to see hopw this value get sent to or picked up from the database. i have modified the queires and set the variables but still can't seem to get it <_<

if anyone cn tell me where i can find this i would behappy to finish this tonight and post what's done :D

this php is pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

okay i i got it working where you can choose which attributes you want to include in your stock count AND i got it so you can choose them from the attribute controller screen.

and its working nicely. if anyone wants it i'll get it out to you. there were some chnages to a few files:

admin/attributes_controller.php - Modified attibuts controller screen to include and exclude attribute in stock count

classes/products_with_attributes_stock - inserted a condition into the select query to return only those attributes flagged as being included in stock count

languages/english.php - added a title for the attributes flags boxes

languages/english/attributes_controller.php - added titles for legends

and a field inserted to the products_attribute table.

what i did notice however that if i have a product that has attributes where none of those attributes are tracked for quantity my product alwasy displays as OUT OF STOCK regardless of how much is in the "total" quantity field.

has anyone else had this problem?

after working until 4:00 am the last two nights i have worked out all the kinks and have modified this mod so that it only tracks attributes you wish it to track. ::tup

i am not sure if you all were going to include this in your next update of this mod but i find it very useful since i only track certain attributes.

i had a problem with allowing the checkout. (i created a second posting by mistake ::ops ) but have fixed the problem since then. i go a little crazy when i have little sleep. :wacko:

anyway i am wondering if there is a way to disable an attribute (as opposed to deleting) so that a customer will not have that option. this will prevent them from even having to select the option ony to be told there is insufficient quantity a screen later.

Yes, I'm sure that is possible. If you take a look at this example on my dev site, you'll see how I use JS to notify whether or not there is stock for a particular set of attributes. I'm not JS expert, but I'd imagine there would be a way to instead delete the option altogether if stock is < 1.

Of course, I still have not managed to find the time to package it up but if you look at the page source you can pull out the JS and then the rest shouldn't be too hard for someone that is motivated and has the time.

I'm sorry to those that are waiting for me to do it. I just can't afford to push off work on my site ay more, I'm already a month behind schedule.

i took out the js file but couldnt get it to work on my site, it just doesnt do anything, do i have to place the js test anywhere in particular on the page so it shows the stock for that item?

Just an update on my progress. I've now made it so the Add to Cart button is disabled if an option is out of stock.

I thought again about having it remove the out-of-stock attributes alltogether and I realized that is impossible, at least for multiple-attribute situations. It would be possible with an AJAX type implementation, though.. and if anyone gets that working then it is better than mine I think.

Once I wrap all this up and finish I'll release it here. But please understand that this is just one small part of my site and I still have tons of work to do... so ETA: few weeks. I'm sure someone with some JS knowledge could get it done before that AND do it better than I did... I just want you to see what is possible.

With this javascript there is no need for AJAX.

Sorry to interrupt the current thread, but is there an easy way of populating the stock levels by attributes rather than use the Admin > Products With Attribute Stock > Add Quantity For Product Variant process???

I have a large catalogue so something like Easy Populate, or even a PHPmyAdmin approach would be very useful.

I'm in a similar boat...

I found that integrating with easypopulate was a huge pain for me, but I admit I'm not sure if it is this mod or others that I've put in but I couldn't even get easypop to work at all.

PHPmyadmin is slower than the admin interface for me :)

One thing I did that helped was bypass the "confirm" step when adding attribute stock... that sped it up a bit but still not enough, so I ended up taking the time and effort to export the DB and use Excel to fill it out and then export that in import it back into the DB. It is faster if you have a lot of items, but VERY easy to screw up.

Fortunately, I still have EP working with this contrib, but it doesn't avoid the need to have to trawl through all the products and systematically define stock by attributes. I guess I'm in need for a more slick way of doing this as I am just setting up my store and have a lot of products to initiate.

However, I would be keen for a smarter way of managing stock in future as I have more than one retail outlet, so may have to manually maintain stock levels on my site.

I am interested in your "work-around" for the confirm step - I tried to edit this out of the code to no avail - can you post your mod please?

I am happy to delve into the database using Excel (back-ups rule!), so would you be happy to provide a guide on this please?

Pretty sure I already posted the no_confirm mod here. Sorry, I can't provide steps for doing it in excel - it would take me hours just to figure out a way to explain it. Its easier to figure out honestly.

But it seems to me someone had come up with a guide. I remember ignoring it because it looked to complicated but it probably is worth the effort if you have >100 products to edit.

Just wanted to see if anyone has a suggestion for a case where I have certain products of unlimited quantity with about 200 attributes. It's a candle site and the candles are made to order so we don't need to list a quantity for each scent - it is unlimited. I don't really want to create a new entry for each one with quantity of 1,000,000 or something. Seems like there's got to be a way to have it ignore stock for certain items/attributes. Any thoughts?

Can you categorise the attributes (or variants) at all? I know nothing about scented candles :huh: but guess that you could break the variants down into some sort of "tree structure"?

I have now got this contribution working just how I want it, apart from one thing....

If a customer hits the Add to Cart button without selecting an attribute the product appears in the Cart as a "plain" product. This is a problem for me as all my products have to have the attribute selected (eg size, colour, etc.).

I have tried setting default attributes (ie pre-selected choice), but this can only lead to the customer ordering the wrong variant (size, etc.) without realising.

Therefore, is it possible to generate a pop-up error if an attribute has not been selected?

Alternatively, is it possible to create an Add to Cart button for each attribute variant? For example, list a product by size - with an Add to Cart button next to Small, Medium, Large, etc. That way, they hit the button for the size they want.

You can add to the Option Values one called something like:

Select from below ...
Pick one:
Make a choice ...
What do you want?
etc.

The set it for Sort Order 0, Default and Display Only

What this means is the customer must chose any Option Value *except* this one or they cannot add the product to the cart ... tricky eh? :)

I ahd a similar problem. There were some attributes I did not want to include in my stock count for certain products and there were products I just did not track stock for since they were always available.

I modifed the contrib so that it only includes the attributes that you want for the products that you want.

You can control this behavior through the attributes control panel. I basically added a switch in the panel to either include the attribute in the stock count or ignore it. (Trying to see if there is a way to control the count here too.)

I did have to modfiy some core functions to do this however, but it works like a champ. I am working on packaging it into soemthing readable as it is a lot of hacked code at this point.

As soon as it is ready I will post a link to download.

Thank Ajeh, great idea and would certainly be a suitable solution. However, in my wisdom I have chosen to use a radio list as it gives the customer an instant view of what is in staock and what isn't.

Here is a sample page (sorry, but my site is "under maintenance" at the moment :rolleyes: ).

What would be really cool is an Add to Cart button adjacent to each attribute variant (in place of the radio button), coded so that it adds the chosen attribute to the cart correctly.

Ok, sorry for another subject, but....

I am now populating all 200+ products with stock-by-attribute.....tedious but essential for the dynamics of my site.

As you can see before, I have modified the Admin > Products With Attributes Stock to remove the confirm step and to pre-populate the entry box (again, nice one Steven!).

So, I thought a good modification to the data entry / data maintenance would benefit from a single page view of the entire product attribute stock. This would only really work for single attribute products and would basically consist of a column list of the attributes, each with a corresponding entry box adjacent to it (column one = attributes list, column two = attributes stock).

I will happily code this up and share it if someone can give me some hints as to where I could find some similar code that has a list of array items with entry boxes by each variant.

A simple pre-populate option will make data maintenance a doddle.

Or, how about putting the value box into the Attributes Controller? Again, only of use to single attribute products, but the attribute variants are listed under each product, so why not just have an entry box for stock in that list <_<

The attributes are setup with the same name, different values. Each skein of yarn has a different weight and yards. When the buyer makes a choice of one or more, the cart shows the items as out of stock. My stock settings are correct per attribute (1) and the quantity is correct. Is there anywhere else I might have to set something?

Alrighty, I figured out the buyer needs to be able to choose two values with the same name.

My store offers yarn and fibers. I would like to list the same skeins of yarn together, but listed at attributes with the same option name. When the buyer makes a choice of which skein to purchase, they should be able to choose more than one option value. When the buyer chooses two or more, the cart only shows one of that item. How can I get the cart to show the number of items based on the boxes checked? I only have one item per attribute value. See my site for an example - the link is in the previous post.

I'm no expert with this contribution, but I think this is the first time someone has mentioned wanted to have checkbox attributes, and allow the customer to choose more than one option. I'm wondering if this is even possible with this?

What I would do, is just do it as a dropdown menu. Then if your customer wants to have both the 138 yard and the 140 yard, then they can just add one to the cart, then add the other to the cart.

Stock For Product With Different Attributes:

If I have a product that has 5 attribtes and each attribute has between 12 and 20 values. Can I mark this product so it doesn't use this module? Right now if I leave no values on the attributes but I put in a quantity number on the product, when they add to cart it shows out of stock. It doesn't show out of stock on the product listing but when they add to cart it does.

There are hundreds of possible combinations on this that I just can't go through and set a quantity on each item.

I have read the whole thread twice and can't find the answer to a question that was posed on page 5 and I have having the same problem. I get this message
1146 Table 'XXXXX.TABLE_PRODUCTS_WITH_ATTRIBUTES_STOCK' doesn't exist.
The table has been set up correctly under zen1_. So I don't know why it is looking for Table XXXXX.

Also, under Catalog I am getting BOX_CATALOG_PRODUCTS instead of Products with Attributes.

When I click on BOX_CATALOG_PRODUCTS I can only see one product in there, when there should be about 100. This is what I see:
1146 Table 'XXXXX.TABLE_PRODUCTS_WITH_ATTRIBUTES_STOCK' doesn't exist

In the sql commands that you used, try again without any prefix.

I had the exact same problem you are having. I went back to the mysql panel from my server and I changed the create table from:

to exactly what my error message said it couldn't find, in your case:
1146 Table 'XXXXX.TABLE_PRODUCTS_WITH_ATTRIBUTES_STOCK' doesn't exist.

So I changed my create table to:

`stock_id` INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT ,

I used ALL CAPITAL letters just like my error message. I don't know if it is case sensitive or not but when I deleted the previous table I created and then re-created the new one it started working fine for me.

I had a similar problem. There were some attributes I did not want to include in my stock count for certain products and there were products I just did not track stock for since they were always available.

I modifed the contrib so that it only includes the attributes that you want for the products that you want.

You can control this behavior through the attributes control panel. I basically added a switch in the panel to either include the attribute in the stock count or ignore it. (Trying to see if there is a way to control the count here too.)

I did have to modfiy some core functions to do this however, but it works like a champ. I am working on packaging it into soemthing readable as it is a lot of hacked code at this point.

hmmm... if I added this mod to my doorknobs site how long would it take to enter all the possible product combinations?

Take one product for example: a simple doorknob set can have:
1 of 4 functions
1 of 2 backsets
1 of 2 door handings
1 of 15 outside finishes

1 of 36 outside knobs/levers
1 of 36 inside knobs/levers
1 of 12 rosettes on outside
1 of 12 rosettes on inside
too many choices to figure out on my fingers, but the trusty old calculator says that's a total of 671,846,400 possible combinations. Damn good thing they're made to order: I wouldn't want to have even one of each possible combination in stock...

That was a long read! 40+ pages. Neither of these posts really help me or tell me how to fix the problem I have with the product with multiple 5 attributes with 12-20 values in each. Is there a way to just tell that product not to use this contrib?

I have created the database table and uploaded all the files as per the instructions given with the zip file.

However, I am not sure what needs to be amended. The readme.txt it mentions an amendment will need to be made to orders.php but I cannot see what needs to be amended.

I have checked the database and a table has been created with the standard prefix zen_products_with_attributes_stock and all the fields are showing.

However I am also getting the 1146 Table 'fancynt1.TABLE_PRODUCTS_WITH_ATTRIBUTES_STOCK' doesn't exist error when i go in to the admin program and try to use Products with attribute Stock.

I have read through this entire thread and I am encountering some of the same problems people are having. I have installed this module and all is working well. One question remains though. We have recieved alot of orders from people who are continuing with the checkout process even though the message displays that we are out of stock on that particular attribute combination. For instance.

Sweatshirt:

Attribute Size: Small, Large, X-Large

Color: Red, Green, Blue

If our stock of Small Red sweatshirts is 0 and someone selects it, it displays the correct message that we are out of stock in the cart. However, the customer either doesn't see the message, or doesn't bother reading it and places the order anyway.

Is there an easy way to remove or disable the "Checkout" button when such message/error is shown to prevent them from continuing and processing the order?

This will circumvent the hassels and headaches we are currently having to deal with.

Diode, i have to ask a quick question about the install process if you have got the module working well can you advise what needs to be done other than copying the files down to the relevant locations?

I added the database and copied the files down as per the instructions but still get errors although i know the table has been added correctly with the zen prefix.

solutionsfast, that is pretty much all that was done. Copied the files into the relative locations, added the table. Then I added a product, gave it a few attributes.

In the admin section under categories-->Products With Attributes Stock section, the product appears. Then all you have to do is "Add Quantity For Product Variant" selection the correct attributes, add the quantity for that choice and its done.

Works fine except for my question.

After a little tinkering around, I believe that I fixed the "problem" that I was having. I edited the cart code, so now if anything that shows out of stock, it removes the button and link to proceed with the cart.

For those that would like to know, or anyone with any better ideas, here is what i edited.

All that should be taken care of with the core files... if you have the option to not allow checkout on out-of-stock items set, then that should be that. I'm not sure why yours wasn't working but I don't think it had anything to do with this mod.

has anyone upgraded yet to 1.3?
I just installed a demo store to see what the diff's are, but haven't "upgraded" yet. I was just wondering if anyone had any problems with this mod.

Not sure if anyone has posted this or not, but if you provide downloads on your cart (1.2.x) remember to add stock for the downlolad in your stockbyattributes otherwise the download won't work. Customers will be charged and unable to download the product.

I know, I am looking for the updated version of this contribution that works with Zen Cart 1.3.0 release. I know for a fact it works with all older versions as I got it to work in those(1.2.5 = 1.2.6.d), but getting it to work in 1.3.0 is a much harder problem when you follow the readme install you should quickly discover a nasty error once you upload the functions_lookups.php file, to a 1.3.0 store.

If you skip that part and leave the older version in place, you will find when the products with assigned attributes do not update to notify the customer the product is not available.

I know it suppose to be released with Zen 1.4 but that could be ages..Is there anyone, who got it to work with 1.3.0 standard install ???? :(

I do not need all the bells and whistles, just this basic contribution to work in 1.3.0, as this version of Zen actually validates and is much friendlier to search engines then the older version of zen stores.

Can anyone tell me if you delete an order should the stock get populated back into the right stock by attribute.

If not what would it take to get this to happen as it is not happening with me.

I have asked a similar thing within the super orders thread - if you edit and delete a line using the SO mods functionallity can it re-populate the stock back into the right place in the Stock by attribute table.

I am not a programmer but if a solution can be found this would be fantastic.

cg3001 - I didn't have a problem with the functions_lookups file - I used winmerge to make sure the original 1.3 script was all included.

The problem comes with the tpl_shopping_cart_default.php in includes/templates/template_detault/templates/ This file seems to have been completely 'emptied' in 1.3. Adding the snippet of code from the stock_with_attributes file causes an error, so I've left it out for now...

I've got the mod 'working' up to a point (ie it doesn't crash) - the admin side works find, and the attributes show up next to the product. But it doesn't update the attributes stock, or check attribute stock quantities.

My feeling is that this isn't going to work without some serious digging around in the 1.3 code - it would be nice, as a starter, to know where all that shopping-cart code has gone!? You walk into that file and you get the feeling that someone has been at it with a large vacuum cleaner :huh:

Does anyone else have a handle on this, or have they got this mod to work on 1.3? Any help greatly appreciated.

I compared all the files and I think the tpl_shopping cart is the one that is most significantly different.

Unfortunately, I don't know enough to try to get it to work...I could really use it though!

I'll preface this by saying I have not yet installed 1.3, nor do I use the contrib you are trying to convert...

But, I know the 1.2x code pretty well and a trick I use a lot when code moves is to find a snipet of code that appears in tpl_shopping_cart_default.php that you know probably still exists but has just been moved in the new version and search the new fileset in your dev environment (I use PhpED) for that code snipet.

Doing that, in this case it looks like the shopping cart code has been moved into includes/modules/pages/shopping_cart/header_php.php

There is also code in includes/classes/order.php that also deals with product attributes (around line 427).

Not sure how much this helps but it may at least get you looking in the right place. ::tup

There is no change in functionality from the original mod. When I choose an attribute array that is already showing stock the quantity field is empty on the next page.

Anybody know what I have done wrong here?

Scratch the above code that I posted. I cut and pasted Stephen's code that eliminates the confirm button (success, yay!)

I have now replaced the 2 snippets of code that should pre-populate the quantity field, but still no changes. At least I didn't break it!

Has anyone else gotten the pre-populate edit to work?

Sorry your cart is broken Mike. I'm afraid I won't be of much help. Have you checked to make sure the files referenced in the error actually exist?

With this javascript there is no need for AJAX.

But I hav not yet integrated this in the mod. So any help should be great.

If I use combined atrributes with this mod (size=radio)+(color=dropdown) should they both show up with all available options?

I tried this and got the radio buttons OK but the dropdown menu was blank (no options) - shouldn't I see all of the available colors in the dropdown?

What does the multiple attributes look like in the store's front end? (screeenshot)

I edited the code to display the stock number, will this work with multiple attributes?

Take a look at my site for examples of what multiple attribute options using dropdown looks like. Most of my products fit that criteria.

Of note, it is possible in Zen to have multiple product attributes without this mod. What this mod does is allow you to maintain stock levels for items based upon their attributes. For example,

1 large red shirt
2 med green shirts
1 small green shirt

as opposed to

4 shirts

Did you have the attributes working properly before adding this mod?

Ringy, am I correct that your changes will only work for single attribute products? BTW, if I am wrong about that I would love a copy of your code.

Just to clarify, I am digging around in tpl_product_info_display.php.. All I need is to show the in stock quantity or basically just say 2-3 days dispatch.

Also another thing, isn't it possible to inherit all variants from the original product attributes? As it is now there is alot of extra work adding the variants.

Yes. Choose attributes for the original product. You will then find a copy option that will allow you to choose another product to copy the attributes to.

I believe that you can also globally do this, although I have not personally used that feature. Be sure to backup if copying globally.

Thanks for the reply audra but thats not what I'm asking for. I want the stock for attributes to be autopopulated with 0, this meaning that I don't have to open every single variant of a product but only the ones I actually have in stock.

I might sound lazy but having approx. 2000 products with attributes (an average of 5 attributes/product) will give me alot to do just inserting variants.

I'm just running a small business where the majority of my products are available at suppliers.

Pre-filling the variants with 0 would help me out alot! :P
