Quick Updates plugin [support]

Just a couple of small buglets maybe (or perhaps I'm missing something?) ...

1. If you add a new product (using 'copy x1') on the QU page, the empty product appears on the QU page, and can be edited, but the product name isn't saved when you 'update' (the product name field is blank after update).

2. The newly-entered product doesn't appear under any category in admin->catalog->categories/products, although it now shows up on the drop-down products 'copy' list on the QU page and is in the database.

3. If you hover your cursor over the 'edit' icon at the end of the newly-entered product line (after a 'copy x1'), the path is missing the 'product' in 'admin/product.php?cpath=...' - ie. it looks like 'admin/.php?cpath=...'

4. If you click the edit icon (as above) on another product (that has been previously entered the normal way through admin) the edit now doesn't work (page isn't found) - the path shown is:

The edit icon only doesn't work just after you've used the 'copy x1' and the 'copy' button becomes visible on the QU page header.

If you log out and clear your cookies/cache then login to admin again (so there's no 'Copy' button in the QU page header) then the edit icons work fine again.

it seems to work fine here except for one thing, and that is that the edit (and preview) link shows the current selected category (which is "cPath=0" when the "Top category" is selected).

Actually it's seems weird to me that this link needs cPath at all, since we are editting the product (which is identified by its products_id not by the category it is in). But that is way the core code works too, so I assume there is logic behind it.

Anyway, if a cat id is needed, I think it should be the master cat id i.s.o. the id of the current selected cat.

And maybe that solves (some of the) issues you mentioned?

Also, if you still have issues after those changes, could you tell me what version of quick_updates you are using (v2.0 from the Zen downloads section?) and the Zen Cart version?

BTW: I am still working on a new version, but I am not sure if I will release it or not. The main problem is that it already took quite some time to make the new features work for myself, and to make it work correctly for others and support it, would take a multiple amount of that time again....

Ok. Now that I'm awake (it was late last night when I posted) ... :smile:

The problem only happens if you choose the default option on the copy - 'id:1 - (default QC Product)'. This is with QU v 2.0 and zen 1.3.7.

I'd assumed that was for creating a blank new product - but maybe not :smile:

If you choose that option, you get the problems outlined in my last post, and the master_categories_id is set to zero in the products table (before the fix in your last post was applied).

Also, there is no entry for the 'new product' in the products_description table, hence the product name not being saved.

I guess it's not very useful creating a new (blank) product in QU in any case - you might as well do it in categories/products, since you have to fill all the fields in anyway.

Perhaps that 'copy' drop-down could be set to 'Please Select ...' or something similar (ie. non-active) - unless there is another use for it?

But again, maybe I'm missing something here ...

I am not sure what the problem is here, but my zencart is not displaying any prices other than $0.00. This is after an upgrade from 1.3.5 to 1.3.7. I am using your quickupdate mod version October 23 2006.

In my product price manager I get the following:
Preview Only ... Current Price Status ... Preview Only, but everytime I make an update there or in your Quickupdates, I see no change from my $0.00.

Please can you help urgently, as for some reason, now my original zencart is not working either.

I just came across this problem last week by accident. I forgot to pick a product in the quick copy drop down menu and "id:1 - (default QC Product)" was selected. The result was that every field was blank. So I added in the the product title to each one and made my way to catalog>categories/products. I had some text on the bottom of the screen telling me there were products that were in the "top" category (or something to that effect) and that this would mess up the prices in my entire catalog. So I thought, "Okay, then I'll just delete them", only that was going to be a problem because these new products were not even showing up due to the fact that I have sub-categories/folders in there. After freaking out for a minute, I went back into Quick Updates and changed the master_categories_id to an actual subfolder, went back into catalog>categories/products and they were in the correct folder. From there I deleted all 10 of them and started over again because I didn't want things to be weird with those particular products. I used quick copy again, only this time selected a product from the drop down instead of leaving it at "id:1 - (default QC Product)" and all was back to normal. So I learned to avoid "id:1 - (default QC Product)" like the plague! I never mentioned it because I figured this was its default function.

Goshawk, I'm sorry, I was replying to Pixxi's post in regards to her problem. I'm not sure about your problem. Hopefully Paul might be able to shed some light on it for you. Since you upgraded to 1.3.7, maybe there is a file that was deleted or overridden. Did you try re-installing the mod at all?

Yes I did reinstall the whole lot again.

Hope I can get my old shop to work again, burning the midnight oil now, and doing an install of ZC1.3.7 over my 1.3.5, hopefully it will work without any glitz and I can get back online.

Good luck Goshawk - I get stressed out when there's an upgrade!

It has been ok up to now, but this one is bringing me headaches. I finished my upgrade last night, and most everything seems to be working, but than I noticed my shop is the cheapest in town..LOL.

Fingers crossed the upgrade will work in my original shop.

Paul, I wanted to mention that in your mod description in the downloads section, you say "Added column for wholesale price (beta code, not supporting multiple wholesales prices?)" and I thought you'd like to know that on my fresh install of 1.3.6, Quick Updates is handling multiple wholesale prices with no problems at all. :smile:

@Goshawk: quick_updates only changes prices you order it to change, if your shop is working OK. If your prices suddenly (or after upgrading your cart) changed to 0 it is not related to quick_updates. So I guess it's better to search the board for related topics, or start a new one yourself about this issue (my first idea would be to check your currency settings).

@April and Pixxie:

Now I think I understand what happens. I assumed a product with id 1 would exist, or that users would change the default quick copy products_id value to another (existing) product. But of course it's not that obvious to others as I assumed it would be, I realize now :-) In my case the default products_id=1 product is my "template product". Its possible to change the default to another products_id in the quick updates configure file (if I remember well, I don't have the files at hand right now).

Maybe I should change it so it reads "Please Select" (as suggested), if the default products_id does not belong to a (valid) product or if it is set to 0. For example.....

@April: Thanks for letting me know the multiple wholesale prices code works fine after all :smile:

An update (2.01) for quick updates 2.0 is attached to this post. This should fix the issues that were just mentioned in this thread (mainly concerning the products copier).

Only load the sql file on new installations or when the product thumbnails wont display, even when enabled in the quick updates admin settings.

Other 2.0 users should only copy the two included .php files, overwriting the existing ones.

I was able to update my excisting store, rather than a fresh install, Something must have gone wrong with the file transfers when I tried an upgrade in a fresh copy.

goto admin/sqlpatch.php (=admin :: Tools :: Install SQL Patches) and copy and paste the contents of the included sql file into the textarea and press submitt (if you know how to add your table prefix, or if you don't use a table prefix for your database tables, you could also use phpAdmin, but I won't explain how to do that).

if i update my prices with 30% through the value or rate box, the price gets updated but my specials price doesn't.

i have a price and a specials price which is 40% lower. if i update the price with 30%, i would like the specials price to change with the same percentage as well.

at the moment it doesn't or am i overlooking something?

You are not overlooking anything. Quick Updates does not update special prices atm. It's on my wishlist too, but that list only gets longer and longer it seems.....

Please help. I read the thread and still am no wiser. I installed the 2.01 patch, fixed the products_price_w problem by adding the field etc. etc.

I still cannot find the "margin increase from purchase price" portion of this mod.

When I enter a value in the "(+/-) Value or rate" it increases the existing price with this much and ignores the value added to "Wholesale"

Please let me know what I need to do to have a percentage markup from purchase price to work using this mod.

I have been using quick updates for a yr and a half and it has been great. I recently upgraded to 1.3.7 from 1.2.5. I re-did the site instead of upgrading individual files. I installed quick updates 2 however have a couple of problems. Because I used the original database I now have in Configuration->Quick Updates 3 of each config choice, except the new ones. Such as display the model has 3 of them. I set them all the same such as true. That all seems livable but when I use quick Updates there is no quantity being displayed. I have set all 3 modify quantity to true. There is no choice for display quantity.

What I would like to do is remove all entries for Config->Quick Updates and re-install the sql. Does anyone know how to do that? Also does that seem like it will solve the Quantity display?

I have temporarily resolved the issue by removing the IF true statement around the quantity statement and the quantity heading. This echoed both in the report and the heading. After testing a bit all seems to be working well.

I have a variety of cart versions (and QU versions) installed. Thus far no one has questioned a particular function inside QU, until recently...

Whilst sorting by manufacturer, QU actually appears to be sorting the data by manufacturer_id, but displaying manufacturer_name. As such, it doesn't really appear to sorting correctly. The manufacturers are grouped, but not alphabetically ASC or DESC.

I've attempted to change the code to "&sort_by=manufacturers_name" but am missing something as no data will return.

If I remember well I did implement it in the latest public version (and I am sure it's in the latest non public ;-) :P ). And if it is, it's using products_purchase_price as database column name for the purchase prices. Are you using the same column name?

@13moons: If I remember well the sql file includes lines to remove any old quick_updates settings. It might be commented out (by a #), but you should be able to copy and paste the drop table sql part(s) into the zen admin tool to remove any old or duplicate entries. Run multiple times (if needed) to remove all settings. (BACKUP YOUR DATABASE FIRST!)

@docfx: that sounds like a small bug, and I think it's not difficult to fix. If I find some time I will take a look and post back here (and/or update).

I also remember someone asking about the need to quickly update special prices I don't remember who/how/where it was asked though. This feature is high on my whishlist too so *if* I find time to update quick_updates I will certainly try to implement it. But again: better don't wait for it, I have little time.....

Also I do thank you for the work on this mod. It is extremely useful to us and saves an enormous amount of time updating and re-ordering products.

Yes, I added the correct column name but found that the problem was actually caused by the missing code from the admin\includes\extra_configures\quick_updates.php file.

While checking this I noticed the categories sorting has the same "problem". In addition to that the categories/master_categories switch does not alter the sort order (an issue I introduced myself). Both these sorting issues are less easy to fix than the manufacturer sorting and I will leave it as it is. Maybe only changing the text, so it says it sorts by id i.s.o. by name, is the best option ftb.

@Louis: thanks for letting me now about the purchase price enable fix :-) I think I removed it because I wanted to move that setting from one file to another or to the sql, but got interrupted and forgot to re-add it.

I want to first say thanks for this contrib, and wondered if you would have any interest and applying this to the attributes area.

The idea would be that on the attrib controller page, where you have your product selected, and you might have 5 options for that product listed there. Instead of having to edit each option one by one, you could make it so you can edit them all like quick updates does now, and have one update button to update them all.

Any interest? I thought about trying it using your existing quick updates file and modifying it, but there is a bit more there than I am comfortable with.

I think it would be great, but I doubt if the current quick updates code would help much to achieve this. Quick updates is designed to update "one to one" product relations only. I would like to rewrite it to handle "one to many" relations but that's not as easy as the "one to one" (or at least it is not easy to me ;-)). Actually that is one of the issues I am having currently trying to write a new quick updates version.

I think my next version will still be limited to "one to one" relations (like all products table columns are for example) to keep things simple.

I *think* I am quite close to releasing a new beta version. It will have a lot more *potential* possibilities. I am not sure yet what will be added in the next release though (but it won't be attribute and/or option editting I am afraid).

The largest part of the main engine is rewritten and that is why a I am looking for beta testers (who have some experience with programming and/or Zen Cart). It's probably not wise to try this beta on live shops!

So if you got a Zen Cart test install ready, and some spare time (and know you what you're doing) please sent me a PM with your e-mail address, and I will mail you the next beta (probably in a week or so).

Well it's not the adding of the attributes to the attributes controller that I am referring to. I may have explained it wrong before. Its just the way they are listed. Quick Updates would probably work properly the way it already is, if I just updated the page form to take multiple updates at once like you did with the products.

Take a look at Catalog->Option Name Manager. Assuming you have 5-10 option names, see how they all have edit and delete buttons, and to change any part of them you would need to click on the edit button and bring up the edit page. Very similar to how the normal order updates work before you made Quick Updates. I'd like to make that part all open to edit all together.

Now look at Catalog->Option Value Manager, same thing here. Multiple edit delete buttons instead of just leaving them all edit boxes and one update button.

Now with that in mind, look at Catalog->Attributes Controller. Assuming you have a few options associated with the product, you see again there are multiple edit/delete buttons. These could also use the same method of allowing multiple changes at once. This is different than assigning attributes to a product. In this case, they are already assigned, I just want an easier way of changing their sort order and prices, however, leaving the color coded legend part the way it is. Just edit price, prefix, weight, prefix, sort, & discount.

2) My tables havea zen_ prefix, is this acceptable with the package included.

@qhome: thanks again (I assume you received my PM) for you explanation. By itself I think it's very interesting, but my time (and knowledge...) is limited and I don't think I will have time soon to work on it.

@Harry: I don't know much about the older versions, but I think it's best to totally remove the old quick updates files before you install the new version.

The new sql file should automaticly remove the old quick updates settings and install the new settings. If you paste the sql into the text area of the zensql tool, the prefix will be added automaticly.

Of course you better backup first!

(The version I am currently working on is delayed again. If it will ever be released it will probably be a separate 3.x alfa or beta version or something. If anyone is interested to work on the code you can send me a PM and I will see if I can zip a temporary version.)

I did overwrite and had no problem,

the only problem I am facing as of now is this message "Illegal Access" if I try to upload the quick_copy.php in the functions/extra_functions folder.


Why is this and what do I do, I use the older version of Zencart, 1.27 is this causing any problem ??

The only reason I can think of is that it's related to permission settings on your server for that folder (or the file if it already contains a file with that name).

I dont think this is the reason, but if somebody can intrepet the below , I think we can come to know the reason for this erro,

I am still working on a new 3.x version, but I need some beta testers.

Basic tests have been done on a 1.3.6 and a 1.3.7 shop, but it's not really recommended for live shop usage yet.

Most changes are not visible for the user (code). Currently it does not include an sql file and there are no db admin settings (so files need to be editted to change the default configuration).

Some new features are:

-a lot more product data updateable/viewable now (columns of the products table)

-basic search function

-add specials, edit special prices and status (not start and end date). Needs GV check to be added!

-quickly switch on/off columns for view/edit

-dramaticly less update queries needed per update (depending on what's updated)

-highlight of "0 fields" (using CSS of course), for example highlights 0 weight and "no manufacturer" and "0.00" price, etc

-highlight of last editted products

-switch between horizontal (=normal) and vertical tabbing

-added "bottom header" (no need to scroll to the top of the page to check what you're viewing/editting)


But remember: it's beta, so be very carefull and backup your database before each usage! (if you decide to use it on a live shop anyway).

- price markups may act a bit weird excluding tax (currently configured for nice inc. tax prices only)

currently I am rewriting quick updates, and hopefully it will be possible to view/edit more db tables some day using quick updates. But I think editting orders is something different and quick updates won't help much for that.

You could take a look at the Order Editor contribution (which is included in Super Orders). It's not written to allow customers to edit their own orders, but at least it's made to edit orders.

I wondered what you meant by "Needs GV check to be added!" on the new specials functionality. It isn't working for me at the minute and I am going to dig in and see what the problem is, but wondering if this has something to do with it.

I found the problem.

If you only show the field for specials price including tax then it gets ignored. The same goes for the normal price. You need to have both fields showing on the form.

Also the specials doesn't support a percentage change, only a value.

I added because he script needs to check that no discounts are assigend to gift vouchers. If you make sure yourself you don't apply special prices to gift vouchers it's no problem.
BTW: the code for this is not complicated, I just got about 1000 uncomplicated (and some complicated) code edits to go before it's finished :-) (and of course it's never really finished..)

But you should be able to add/edit/remove/status update specials I think. Or least the latest beta does (but I really can not release that one publicly).

If you mean you can't do markups on the specials yet, then it is correct. Also not difficult, just one of the many todo things. The main reason I did not add it yet is that I was thinking about adding a more general markup "vertical update" feature. So that it would also become possible to markup/update all displayed products names or weights or whatever, in one go. But maybe I just want to much.... ;-)

I will check for the possible tax/markups issue, when I do tests next time, but I can't promse anything.

I just noticed that if I have a category with only 1 item, it does not show up when I bring up the quick update window.

Is there a fix for this?

@chadderuski: I did some tests, but I can't reproduce the issue with 1 product in a category in 2.03 (which does not say it's not possible, it certainly is). Do you have it with any 1 product in a cat? Does it happen within both the master cats and linked cats view?

@kelvyn: the higher number indicates its newer, but it's not better by definition. v3.0-beta-2 is probably more stable and better/safer for practical usage, that is why I left it there after releasing newer versions. And v3.0-beta-6.1 should actually be replaced soon (it has quite some bugs for sure). And it looks like v3.0-beta-2 misses some files :blink: (probably it's best to use it as an upgrade for 2.03).

I think I will start a new thread about 3.x (which I already should have started some time ago). Because most issues with, and fixes for, 3.x will be totally unrelated to any 2.x version.

With the specials tax issue it is just a case of in the big switch it is checking for the specials field that does not include tax - just needs a bit of logic here. I haven't done it as I can work around it.

The way specials are done is a bit of a pain for me anyway. Unlike the salemaker, it doesn't record the actual type of offer you are doing - just the ammended price. So if you update the base price the special doesn't change.

This causes me a problem because I use global update and would like the special prices to be in sync with the imported prices.

But this is both irrelevant and nothing to do with your excellent mod!

Hi Paul - okay, this is like when you take your car to the vet and it totally behaves... LOL. Now I cannot reproduce it, but I am CERTAIN that it did do it. Should I be using "Master Category View" for everything. I do not think I have linked categories yet, and that was the default view I had when I noticed this.

I have a feature request:

The ability to add/edit extended price breaks. I have been editing the main price in your module, then jumping out to edit extended pricing. This would help data entry flow.

Any plans on adding text or sql imput/output?

Can't wait to see what you do in version 3!

Does this mod allow price updates of attributes too? I would like to find a solution that will list all attributes in a table and the client can just go through and update instead of chooing each one individually.

I installed 3.0 beta 2... which seemed to work, but then noticed some "odd" things like manufacturer's id changing. So I uploaded the 2.03 files and re-ran the update.sql file, and now it no long works. Getting error:

Ah! Found the commented section in the quick_update.sql and ran that. Also made sure I deleted both version's of files (2 and 3) on server before reloading and then reran sql patch. Appears to be working now.

Due to the problems with the GOOGLE FROOGLE FEEDER handling product_type, I was wondering if it would be easier if the QUICK UPDATES had another blank input field for setting a custom Google product types that would be stored in the SQL as product_type?

I don't know anything about GOOGLE FROOGLE FEEDER (I think it's US only, isn't it?) and it's product_type handling. But quick updates does not add any input fields because quick updates is designed to update existing fields only, not add new fields.

If you need a new field you need to add it to your database, and if you want to update that new field using quick updates 2.x you would need to update the code for it as well.

And if GOOGLE FROOGLE FEEDER is a contribution I think you should ask about this issue in the support thread of that contribution (or start one yourself).

I'm trying to keep the contributions compatible. We've found a work around for the product_type in Google Froogle. But if we were to create such a field, then the quick updates would also need to match it. So far, no need... yet

Sorry numinix, I misunderstood and thought quick updates should fix the issue itself.

Adding a field for editting is certainly possible of course. In final 3.x versions it should even be *very* easy (without code edits), only I doubt if it will be ready soon. In 2.x it's also not difficult, several code edits will be needed though.

There should be the X icon for deleting products as well. Products can be disabled but not deleted. This is simple to do in the categories/products module but should also be included in quick updates just for ease of use.

This module is for quickly updating your product prices. If you bring in a lot of inventory and need to adjust prices due to the change in your purchase price, it is much easier to be able to see the products main details in a table format than to have to individually open each product and change the price. That's what this module does... The margins/profits module is something different but I believe something like it exists in the downloads.

I thought I read somewhere this Mod would allow you to accomplish the Margin and Product Price as well??? Hmmm. Why does it tell you at the bottom of the read me to add the two columns to my products DB is I want to use those fields.

There have been (buggy) 3.x beta versions available, but these do not fix fix anything compared to 2.03. Also I am quite sure quick updates does not do anything (positive or negative) related to Google Froogle. Quick updates 2.x only allows you to quickly update some of the exsiting products data, and it does not change any of this data unless you tell it to do so.

probably better ask Andrew about this? He released a Google Froogle contribution some time ago. And of course it's not impossible that (an adapted version of) Quick Updates could help solving issues with Google Froogle.

Also when I think I have a code improvement I usually upload, and then watch the thread (to see if I have overlooked something, to help, and to get ideas from others). When I set up a new support thread myself I usually sort of officially support the code (although (of course?) really official support of contributions does not exist here atm). But I have no plans *at all* to setup a support thread for quick updates 2.x and older versions (and probably not for other versions either).

About froogle google: I didn't say, but I actually meant to ask for payed support (probably should have mentioned it and PM about it). I am not interested myself, but I imagined that someone who has worked on both contributions would be able to combine this information, and write some code without it taking too much time (which might make it payable).

My current interest are:

1- Does it help my bussiness? (yes it does, no doubt about that)
2- Can I help others with it? (I am sure it helps some, but I am not sure about my input on this. It might help some, but it might bother others.)

3- Can I get payed for it? (not really interesting, but I got to pay my bills so I need some money)

Not sure what all just happened in the past few posts... but things seemed a bit tense...? Hope there's no bad blood.

But I can see where things can get confusing for the casual zenner.

Andrew wrote it, and Paul updated it... Ver 2.03 is reported stable and works with 1.3.7. But then there were some ver 3 betas available.

But we still have "Re: Quick Updates 1.3 ?" as the thread title.

Andrew was working on a ver 3 beta (I have both these and briefly tried them, cool adds by the way), admits it has issues, but doesn't appear to be interested (or has no time) in continuing to work on it, or am I wrong?

Nor is Paul going to release a ver 3? What about an updated ver 2? What would that update be? A NEW ver 3 or a fixed Beta??

I like Quick Updates. Has made my life a lot easier compared to the one (painful) product editing at a time stock zencart has. I'd like to see the project continue. Something like this should be a part of zen's core (in my humble opinion).

Hope I got that all straight. NOT trying to stir the pot. Just understand. Would be interested in contributing some brain power to help the project move forward. Hope you guys don't mind my summary. Just don't want to see such a great mod end up orphaned!

I only port it to zen and clear code
Paul developed it and now we have last stable Ver 2.03. And only Paul can now support it (if he want it).

I have been using the Stock by Attributes contribution and find it critical with items like Tee Shirts. It is the only way to track how much of each size I have in stock. I love Quick Updates, but unfortunately, it does not see the prices or inventory quantities from Stock by Attributes, only normal products. Is there a way to modify Quick Updates to make it see the price and quantity from attribute items that Stock by Attribute provides?

I've searched this thread and can't find any information on this.

This happened to me when I moved products from one category to another in admin>catalog>categories/products. Sometimes in QU it shows "invalid master" after I do that. To fix it, I just selected the correct category from the dropdown menu in QU and clicked on update.

Installed quick updates. In the admin, confirguration page, the Quick Updates info is there. But when I go to the products page to change a price, etc. everything is the same. On what page should I see the quick updates file to update an entire category at once.

admin>configuration>quick updates is where you make your changes to the products. if you don't have that in your admin, try uploading again because something is missing.

I think the file that makes QU appear in admin>catalog is admin\includes\boxes\extra_boxes\quick_update_catalog_dhtml.php, but don't quote me on that because I am no QU expert.

I am not sure what is going on, but, I think there should be a quick update listing in admin/calogue/ in addition to admin/configuration. I will probably remove all of these files, and try again tomorrow.

Definitely try again. It happens quite frequently (at least to me and also to several other people on this forum) that mod files either pretend to upload themselves or are uploaded to the wrong files by a sleepy, overworked zenner. Those files are sneakly little ##############s sometimes.

I just installed Quick Updates 2.03. I have Profit Margin Calculator v1.12 by Farrukh installed what is needed to get Quick update to have that column added.

I have found a bug in the QuickUpdates v 2.03.

If I have set the Description to false in the configuration and I go to the QuickUpdates page under Catalog the Description header column will still be there and the other boxes are messed up. So there are lets say 4 headers (including the Description) but only 3 columns underneath the headers because the Description one was turned off.

I have created a patch that adds UPC and ISBN to the products listing page for use with the Google Base Feeder. Without being able to easily update these new columns, it will be a tiresome task for users. Since UPC and ISBN are now required, this is something that has to happen.
