Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
i just started using 1.2.5.7 to upload via CSV and i am having an issue that i have no idea why it is happening.
what it is doing is that whatever the last item is in the CSV file is for some reason being linked to every one of my categories and overwriting an item in each of those categories. any clue as to why it is doing that?

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi Zenners, I just started using this Easy Populat add on and it's awesome! Just a quick question.
When I download the the text files do I need to keep ALL fields or can I delete the ones that I don't use and just add/adjust the fields I need? Thanks!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Have used Zen Cart for years but I'm feeling like a real idiot.
I installed Zen Cart v1.3.9g and Easy Populate 1.2.5.6 but EP did not show up under Admin/Tools.
So, I installed Zen Cart v1.3.9f and Easy Populate 1.2.5.6 per the previous post.
Easy Populate is still not showing under Admin/Tools.
What's wrong?

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Did the following:
Install ZC v1.3.9f
Install EP v1.2.5.5
Install EP update v1.2.5.6
Getting this error in Admin/Tools/Easy Populate

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Found the problem.
When I opened admin/includes/languages/english/easypopulate.php
in my editor, I could not edit the file. I copied the contents, closed the file, saved the file as easypopulateORIG.php just in case, opened a new file, pasted the contents and saved as easypopulate.php. After uploading the "new" file to my server, everything worked fine.
No idea why this was a problem or why the fix works.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi everyone!
I installed Easy Populate, everything went smoothly. I downloaded the template and opened it in excel, added some test products and saved as Tabbed Delimited Txt file.
I uploaded it to the /temp directory then from within admin-tools-easy populate I put the path to the file in the temp directory hit "insert into db".
I got a message saying
Upload Results
Filename: testuplist.txt
Upload Complete
But when I went into my store no new products were showing.
I thought to do a little test so I put any file name (that doesnt exist) and hit "insert into db" and STILL and said upload complete, this tells me its not really picking up anything from the temp directory but it does claim to, Im so confused.
Any thoughts to point me in the right direction please?:unsure:

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Which EZ version are you running? Also it is always best to install and download a copy of your inventory and then duplicate the field entries so errors are less common.
Depends on the setup of your inventory but often only one EOREOR would normally follow I'd think.
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi thanks for replying ive been reading all the posts in this thread for HOURS!!! Im upto page 55 of 312:frusty:
im using zen cart 1.3.9.f and easyPopulate 1.2.5.4
The 2 EOREOR are because 1 is the title at the top and the next one relates to the product.
The install went totally smooth, I generated a csv file from my current database and deleted most products just left one and added another for testing. So im using the same format that was generated by EP directly.
Its uploading my files from /temp successfully, I never get any errors with EP but still no products show, ever!!:wacko:
Any more ideas?? :dontgetit
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Yes Ive got the temp folder on permission 777 everything is error free and still i get nothing imported from EP... Im reading thru all the posts up to page 100 now... I feel like shooting myself :wacko::cry:

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi Kobra or anyone that can help...
I read that wiki document top to bottom I made sure everything was saved correctly, I uploaded it to temp then ran the insert to db and................... NOTHING!! ZERO!! it says upload successful and all of that but no products appear anywhere in admin or my website.
Im totally desperate for any help! :no::blink:

And use it to add to

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Yes I used the file generated by the EP setup and modified it slightly with my own data. Also I tried a different way to generate a new file from my own content...nothing Kobra.. I reset my Category ID thing under tools-manage store, Ive tried everything :wacko: I need some original Ideas this must be simple problem...:blink:
Or is it wishful thinking :unsure:

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Here is a copy of the Txt delimited file...
Please any ideaS? Ive read over 100 pages of this thread and so many people have the same problem of unexplained situation, where we have NO ERRORS, not on install or on uploading the file, Easy Populates exists everywhere in Admin correctly.
Im enclosing my file as a last resort I have no idea what to do but zen cart is useless to me without this facility, I dont want this to be the end of the road...:shocking:
HELP!!!!!!
AGRRRRRR :censored::censored::censored: it wont let me upload the file says invalid file!! its just a txt file

One word of warning using OpenOffice. When you export your csv/txt file be sure to "edit filter settings" to ensure you are exporting in the correct character set.
OpenOffice will (from my experience) default to UTF, but most English stores are ISO 8859-1 which I also think is zencart's defaults. This is one of those things that excel likes to botch.
This issue is most evident if you have TM (c) (R) and other symbols in your code (rather than the html equivalents).
Also, OO does a better job at the csv/txt export because it properly encapsulates all data.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
So i have Easy Populate 1.2.5.4 and Zencart 1.3.9.f installed.
All sql updates and files installed fine.
I'm getting a very strange error...
Every button and link i click from the admin->tools->Easy Populate menu just redirects me back to my admin login page. Whats that all about? Is that a default action when a file is missing?
Thanks in advance.
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I have read 100 pages of this thread before I clicked what my error was. Amongst the stuff I read I saw something about a login loop, maybe if you do a search for that term and other combination youll hit upon the solution, it is here Im sure.
Best of luck :D
P.S. Also right when I started with zen cart I had a login loop issue due to shared SSL, I dont bother with that I just paid £50 for a dedicated SSL certificate - worth every penny!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4

How do I remove? Thank you!
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
sorry to repeat myself but i saw that also discussed in the first 100 pages search for 2 entries or "twice" or something like that...
Could be some files are corrupted you need to do uninstall. Again uninstall instructions are on the thread its not hard.:P
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi, I tried to do a search for both "twice" and "2" but came up with nothing....
Should I just uninstall the mod and then reinstall completely? Will this mess up anything else? Thank you.

Hi,
I very new to zen cart but used to have same issue. Actually 3x EP in Admin > Configuration. I found somewhere here...sorry can't remember the location exactly...the following steps that worked:
- uninstall EP using YOUR_ADMIN/easypopulate.php?langer=remove
- find ALL files related to EP using Developer Tools Kit in Admin>Tools and delete them
- start a fresh install
For me, these steps solve the problem.
Good luck! :smile:

If you feel comfortable with your hosting control panel and know how to get to myPHPAdmin for your database, you can remove the extra entries from the table configuration_group.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hello to All!
Did someone known why master_categories_id for all products uploaded via Easy Populate is not set?
Is it good idea to do this SQL query after i upload products with EP (i have linked products):
UPDATE products
SET products.master_categories_id = (SELECT products_to_categories.categories_id FROM products_to_categories WHERE products_to_categories.products_id = products.products_id)
WHERE products.master_categories_id = 0;

You have to access your Database to edit the tables. Usually this is done with MyPHPAdmin which is available through most webhosts. I should be in your Database Management tools.
Once you are in your database, if you go into the 'configuration_group' table there will be multiple entries for Easy Populate. Simply delete the extra entries to remove them from the dropdown menu.

Anytime you edit your Database, DO A BACKUP!!! At LEAST of the table you are editing!:D

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
EP 1.2.5.4
zc 1.3.8a
Honestly I'm not going to read through 314 pages first, so please forgive me.
I export with model/price/qty only, edit, import, and all my products that previously had a status of Disabled are now Enabled. Is there a code fix for this bug so that it doesn't happen again?
Before you say it, I did a backup, but I also did product changes since importing and only now realized what caused the Enabled problem weeks later.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hello,
I apologize in advance for having posted this in the wrong area, if I am indeed doing so. I am actually having issues with easy populate 1.2.5.7b, not 1.2.5.4. However, I cannot find support for the version that I am using.
Ok, my problem is that I have installed and uninstalled this module about 15 times in it's various forms. By this I mean that I have tried installing csv 1.2.5.7b, easy_populate_free__from_langer__modhole_1-2-5-6, easy_populate_with_group_price_per_item_1-3-9-gp-meta-c, and even easypopulate_1-2-5-4. So far I have come up with the same exact thing with EVERY install. (by the way, I am using ZC version 1.3.9g for this install). EVERY time I install this module, I can install it just fine. The config file looks fine, and I don't receive any errors. However, when I go to tools--> Easy Populate, that's when things look messed up. I have included a screen shot of what happens.
http://meynonline.com/images/AE-Easy...tall-error.jpg
It appears as though the HTML is not rendering properly.
I have Easy Populate 1.2.5.5.csv installed on another cart that is live. It is version 1.3.8. It is actually my test cart for another site. The cart that I am having difficulty with is on my local server, so I cannot provide a URl for it. Not to mention, the problem is within the admin.
Here is the cart with the working module:
http://meynonline.com/images/Test%20Cart%20Admin.jpg
Has anybody ever seen this issue? Id so, how do I fix it? Like I said earlier, I have tried reinstalling different versions (modules), and I have reinstalled each one at least two times. I do make sure to clear every entry in the DB regarding the mods. I also clear out all of the files. The last time I tried a reinstall I went so far as to download the files from my test cart with the operating module, and did a winmerge check. Then I used the successful files without altering them, which provided the same results.
I really need to get this cart going. I have been working at this module for about a week now. This is the first time I have had such an issue with a cart install, or module install. I'm seriously considering rolling it back to 1.3.8 so I know that it is not the cart itself. I know the 1.3.9 versions have had many bugs. I had to play with the code for hours to get the front page, and other define page HTML to render properly.
The only reason that I don't want to switch is because I have a custom template that I created for this site. I have never created a template that I then uploaded to different carts. I build them in the cart, use the overrides, and don't mess with them after that.
Well, any help tips, or suggestions would be great. I appreciate the community here, and all of your help.

I do not run 1.3.9c or the cvs version of EP, but what I would check first is the version of PHP that you have on your local server. Even if that is compatible with the 1.3.9c load, I would try the 1.3.8a and the 1.5.4 EP (Langler), to see if either makes a difference. If they work, then the CVS EP could be tried with the 1.3.8a.
I thought that maybe your template could have something to do with the issue but that shouldn't effect the admin section in one version and not in another. I am not aware of any problems between html and any PHP version.

OOD and Excel are interchangeable any problems with excel are related to an altered default setting or improper saving of file format.
As far as getting it to work AVOID at all COSTS v .5 and .7 csv as they are plagued with innumerable problems noted throughout this thread.
If you wish to have EZ Pop running smoothly in your environment either install the 1.3.9 EZ Pop version in downloads or install the slightly restrictive 1.2.5.4 which is found in the retired files section.
With anything Zencart especially this type of program you need to be running version 5+ PHP anything less is an antique.

I was having the same issue since I didn't use model numbers initially. With about 150 things in the store now I didn't want to go through and edit them all to include model #'s
I decided to edit the program to automatically create the model number based off the product_id since it will be unique to each product. You can copy and paste this code into the /admin/easypopulate.php file. If you haven't already altered it, I believe it is at line 731 where you put it.. included some of the surrounding code so you can find it:
PHP Code:
if ($ep_dltype == 'froogle'){
$endofrow = "\n";
} else {
// default to normal end of row
$endofrow = $separator . 'EOREOR' . "\n";
}
$filestring .= $endofrow;
$num_of_langs = count($langcode);
while ($row){
////////////////////////////////////////////////////
// BEGIN: Set blank product_model to product id //
////////////////////////////////////////////////////
// Check if products_model in the current row is blank
if ($row[1] == '' || $row[1] == Null){
// if it is blank, create and run an sql query updating it to the product_id
$queryTHIS = 'UPDATE '.TABLE_PRODUCTS.'
SET
products_model="'.$row[0]. '"
WHERE
(products_id = "'. $row[0] . '")';
$result123 = ep_query($queryTHIS);
// this just changes the v_model in the output file without querying
// the server for it, since it was just changed
if ($result123){
$row[1] = $row[0];
}
}
//////////////////////////////////
// END: Set blank product_model //
//////////////////////////////////
// if the filelayout says we need a products_name, get it
// build the long full froogle image path
// check for a large image else use medium else use small else no link
// thanks to Tim Kroeger - www.breakmyzencart.com
$products_image = (($row['v_products_image'] == PRODUCTS_IMAGE_NO_IMAGE) ? '' : $row['v_products_image']);
$products_image_extension = substr($products_image, strrpos($products_image, '.'));
$products_image_base = ereg_replace($products_image_extension . '$', '', $products_image);
PLEASE BACKUP YOUR DATABASE BEFORE USING. It worked for me perfectly, but I don't wanna be blamed if something blows up. It hasn't been tested further than running it, making sure the site/database were still good, then deleting a couple of the models manually through admin and running again.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi,
I'm quite sure I'm not in the exactly correct place to ask, but have just joined tonight and need to find out how I can add products to google froogle feed. Was told by web company that Zen Cart 1.3.7 can no longer add products to froogle, is this true?
Can someone instruct me how to post new question/thread?
Web company said I had to pay them to upgrade to new Zen Cart version b/c google now requires "categories" per product -- #1, is that true and #2, is that something I can do myself?
Web company has history of lying, unfortunately, and I don't have $ to waste.
Thanks, and sorry I don't know how to get where I need to go!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Well... I've tried earlier versions of ZC (1.3.8a & 1.3.8) and it's a no go still. I'm thinking my MySQL is to recent (on my local machine). I was checking the version of my hosting company and they are 5.0.83. My local install is 5.1.41. I think my PHP version is too receent too. It is 5.3.1 on my local server and 5.2.12 on my hosting server. Could this affect the way the PHP renders? I'm going to install an earlier version of XAMPP and see if that corrects my issues. I will report my results. Unfortunately I am unable to download the exact versions that are on my hosting servers. MySQL is v. 5.0.67 and PHP is v. 5.2.6.
I am still looking for solutions, if anybody is willing to offer advice or a solution. I was thinking about installing a clean ZC instal to my web host, but I prefer to develop on my local machine first to work out any bugs.
Looking forward to some help, and completing this install.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
OK...
I did it! I installed Easy Populate v 1.2.5.5.csv on my v1.3.9h cart! I had to roll back my XAMPP install to v 1.6.8 from 1.7.3. I might have been able to go back to 1.7.0, but I didn't want to install this version and go through another ZC install only to find out I had to roll back another version. Luckily my web host isn't up to date, and I will be able to install to their servers without any problems. Now I just need to move my current customized install to the new XAMPP install to test the cart that I actually want to use.
To reduce problems with this in the future, is there a tutorial on packaging my own customized cart that can be installed just as easily as a fresh install of ZC? This can either be simple template customization, or as elaborate as pre-installed modules that most of my clients ask for, and a custom admin (different css, extra links in the header for my support, etc.). If anybody could point me in the right direction that would be appreciated. If anybody would like the PHP and SQL version numbers I tried in the beginning, and the versions I rolled back to, please let me know and I will post them. I believe I included them in my earlier post in this thread.
I hope this helps somebody. This forum is great!

Can someone help me please! I unstalled the Easy Populate files and folder from the store. But when you go into the Admin area and when you go to Configuration there are 15 "Easy Populations" links. I would like to remove them. How can I do that?

phpmyadmin is your friend :D Just look in the configuration table for easy populate and drop it.

You need to go into your db via phpMyAdmin and delete them manually. If you need some direction, PM me.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Would just like to remind everyone of the work Schoolboy did in putting together a wiki for EasyPopulate:
http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Easy_Populate
The wiki answers many of the questions that I've seen posted lately.
Also, jrobeson has created his own mod of EasyPopulate. It's really a new animal (much code rewritten) with some combined code from myself. Take a look at it over at github. This version solves many of the issues at hand. I do not remember if he solved attributes, but that's something I've also been working on. NOTE that this
is not for the newbie/beginner ... and there is NO support for this distro in this thread. You'll need to know how to install git and pull a distro. If you have any questions, you'll have to contact John, the author.
https://github.com/jrobeson/easypopulate
Good luck!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
my model/attributes file is too large and I can't download it or create it to the temp directory. my host (justhost) won't increase the memory on my account, and EP doesn't have a feature to break up the file into smaller chunks for download, just for upload.
is there a solution or do I need to move my hosting?

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Is there a v_ field descriptor and value using Easy Populate for each of these two fields:
Show Qty Box
Product Qty Maximum
?? I just successfully moved about 200 products using the method of delete, add, add back images, but on the add, the default Zen product add values for these two fields were plugged in because Easy Pop does not store these fields/values. I am hoping there IS a v_ value that could be used w/ Easy Pop, though, to easily reset all my products to their correct values. Thanks!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
already found this answer a few weeks ago and forgot about it. Sheesh! run SQL updates w/ these two commands:
UPDATE products SET products_quantity_order_max="1";
and
UPDATE products SET products_qty_box_status="0";

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I'm having a strange error with easypopulate.
I have a tab file with the products.
It uploads without error
The categories are created
The categories give a count to the number of products in them.
However there are no product in there in the admin or on the store?
It says there are x or x active, but when I go into the bottom category where the products should be it is empty.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Paul,
Under Tools > Store Manager try to run both Update All Products Attribute and Price Sorter.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Actually what is missing is the master_categories_id on the Products in the products table ...
Do you use Linked Products?
If not, you can fix this in the Tools ... Store Manager ...
Quote:
Reset ALL Products Master Categories ID
to be used for Linked Products and Pricing: Reset
Quote:
Update All Products' Attribute Sort Orders
to match Option Value Default Sort Orders:
Update
which may be what chadderuski meant, but just showed the wrong one ...
If you do use Linked Products, you will need to review the Products as the master_categories_id will pick up the lowest categories_id in the products_to_categories table for the master_categories_id ... and this may or may not be correct ... so those Products will need to be adjusted ...
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
After much button pressing and frustration, and trying all the above I have found the problem.
I used easypopulate to upload all the products (there were a lot of them).
The categories were there and the product count was there both in the admin and in the catalogue.
However no products could be viewed.
Turns out that in the csv I had mistyped the product name file by one character.
All the products were uploaded but because there was no product name it refused to show up.
Correcting the template and uploading again solved it however it does raise an issue.
Why won't the product display without a product name? If it did I would have seen straight away that the field was missing, but to not display the product at all left me going round in circles trying different things.

Easy Populate uploads folder not found!
NIX SERVERS: Your uploads folder is either missing, or you have altered the name and/or directory of your uploads folder without configuring this in Easy Populate.
WINDOWS SERVERS: Please request your web host to assign write permissions to the uploads folder. This is usually granted through Windows server user account IUSR_COMPUTERNAME.
Your configuration indicates that your uploads folder is named temp/, and is located in D:\Hosting\6717719\html\zencart/, however this cannot be found.
Easy Populate cannot upload files until you have provided an uploads folder with read/write/execute permissions for the site owner (usually chmod 700 but you may require chmod 777)
That is what i see wheni try to install easy populate. What am i doing wrong ?
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I had similar on a linux box. There is a TEMP folder that needs write permission which it may not have by default.
Use an FTP programme or your hosts control panel to locate the directory and chmod it to 700. You can usually do this by right clicking on it and you'll often have an option to change the chmod. Depends on what programme you are using though.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Thank you so much for the quick reply. Your answer worked and helped me get easy populate to work on my website. My problem is there are so many products, with so many different attributes that all this has turned into a major headache. I am very new to Zen cart,easy populate, SQL, and any of the other programs needed to run a website. I had made some simple web sites but nothing on the level of what I am attempting to do now. The website I am working on is: www.majikalpath.com/zencart if you will notice I have already started putting the site together. I need a way to import more products into categories already made and import some into categories not made. The ones that i need ti import may have allot of attributes to them. Can someone please point me in the right direction on this. I have read all the information can get my hands on but nothing i do seems to work out properly. I have been using the old fashion version of copy and paste but this is taking forever. If you go look at : www.wiccansupplier.com you will see the type of site i am trying to produce. As you can see in their "herbs" section they have allot of different attributes with different prices. Is there a way of making this easier so someone as unlearned as myself can do this without using the copy and paste method? Any help would be most appreciated.
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I'm just now getting my head around the attributes myself - so unfortunately at this time I can't help with that.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hey Spencer,
One word of warning: ATTRIBUTES don't work correctly in 1.2.5.4.
You can try ATTRIBUTR, but it's not really suitable for newbies:
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showth...ight=attributr
EP Advanced from Langer is supposed to have working attributes, but that products has no support here, and Langer is no longer supporting it.
There are a couple of us that have been working on updating EP. I've been working on a version myself with a goal of fixing attributes correctly. But if you've seen "The Money Pit" you know what my entire summer and fall have been like and <gasp> we're still not done!
Be sure to read the wiki... it will answer many questions.
http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Easy_Populate
Also, use OpenOffice. But be sure you know what character set you are using (UTF-8 vs ISO 8859-1).
Good luck.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Thank you for the reply. I have the original csv files and all i am suppose to need to just upload and build website but after getting all these files i am lost. The people who are my suppliers told me all i had to do was to load these files and everything would be set. I have tried that but the only way i can get things to look and work right is to do each product individually. It is driving me crazy because they use zen cart to build their site and files seem to have been downlopaded from a server as csv's. Can i just try to import them into the database and it all fall into place ?

Re: Easy Populate support
I am am unable to get images to display. The upload went fine but all i see are little red "x"'s , I have tried Reset ALL Products Master Categories ID
to be used for Linked Products and Pricing: Didn't work. I have all the pictures in the image folder and they are the same as the descriptions. Can someone please help me with this problem. TIA. I buy ya a drink...

If you are trying to load a CSV file using EP 1.2.5.4 it will not work.
EP 1.2.5.4 requires the column (field) delimiter to be TABS, not COMMAS.
If the data-file is (for example) named abcdefghij.csv , open it in a plain text editor (such as EMERALD EDITOR), to see if commas are indeed being used to separate the field values.
If commas ARE being used, you will need to CONVERT these to tab spaces, and then save the file with a .txt extension.
My WIKI article deals with this in some detail...
EP will work faultlessly ONLY IF the data-file you are trying to upload is formatted properly. We routinely use EP to load tens of thousands of product records and we never experience problems, because I make sure that my staff pay meticulous attention to the formats that EP requires.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
My question is from a technical perspective.
Why does Easypopulate use the names of the categories and even worse, why does it require that information by a number of levels?
Why can't the application simply use the category number (single level) and stuff the data directly.
Regards
Fred

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Thank you so much schoolboy. I have got it worked out now as far as how to get the csv files into the .txt formatt needed. Thank you all so much for your help. I am starting to get my arms around the program but am still nervous. I have had a few times where it did not place the product into the proper catogories but it seems to be worked out. Now if i could just figure out how to make the site look better and figure out how to change sizes of fonts and boxes but that are questions for another area. Thank you again for your help.

Nothing stopping you from re-writing it, Fred. It was written and provided to the ZC community for free many years ago and has probably been useful to tens of thousands of zenners.
This is the Opensource community. One of the protocols of the opensource community is that you never complain about a free module, plugin, avatar... etc.
If you don't like the way something works (or doesn't work) then (like many of us) make a contribution to improving it.

Hi New12,
This is a loaded question :p ... if you know PHP and MySQL you can customize the easypopulate.php file to add these fields. If the columns added with this "Book Type" are just in the products database, you may be able to do it quite easily by following the example of other fields in this database.
Also, version 1.2.5.4 does not support CSV. You would have to look at some of the other versions for that code, but be mindful that many of those tend to have problems... you would have to do some extensive reading in those threads to identify those issues.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Working on ATTRIBUTES import/export for Easy Populate... I'd say I'm about half-way done. I can, at present, import and create Options Names of any of the 5 types with associated Options Values, and apply these to the given Products Model. Note that this is just the basic stuff to start.
I do not use attributes extensively, so I am looking for feed back from those of you that do.
Issue: Do you use DUPLICATE Option Names?
Example:
Option Name 'Color' with Option Values 'Red,Green,Blue' and
Option Name 'Color' with Option Values 'Cyan,Magenta,Yellow,Black'
Zencart will let you define multiple option names with the same products_options_name value.
This 'works' because products_options_name is not the key --> products_options_id is the key.
To auto populate the attributes it is easier to use just products_options_name uniquely, otherwise you will have manually define the key.
I see manually picking the key at potentially problematic.
So, are DUPLICATE Options Names a 'must have'? EP imports products based on a unique model_id, any objections to unique Options Names?
Issue: Work Flow -> One-Step Import or Two-Step Import or Both?
One-Step Import: Build Option Names, Options Values and Assign to Products in One-Step.
Two-Step Import: (Step-One) Build Option Names and Option Values First (i.e. create all your base attributes and values first)
(Step-Two) Assign Attributes to Products (with all the associate details) (Duplicate Options Names makes this VERY Tough)
I have the (very simplified) One-Step Import working. The more details you add, the more complex it becomes. Add multi-language support, and things start to get crazy!
So, if you have some input on desired work flow, I'm open to suggestions. Like I said above, my use of attributes is limited so I don't have that long term "feel" for using them and the work involved to maintain them over time.
Thanks for listening! Any input/feed back is appreciated. I hope I communicated everything clearly!
Please, no requests for code at this time. I'll announce when I'm ready for beta testers.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
everytime i try to import using the latest version of easypopulate i recieve this error.
MySQL error 1054: Unknown column 'p.products_group_a_price' in 'field list'
can someone please offer me help on this issue??

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
you are either not using 1.2.5.4 or have un-commented the section for products group pricing mod.
Since you don't have this mod installed, those columns do not exist in the products database. look for the langer version in the downloads section for 1.2.5.4.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Keeps sending me to the admin login screen.
Zen cart version: v1.3.9h
Easy Populate 1.2.5.4
Nothing has been installed other than Zen Cart and Easy Populate. It's a shared server on hostgator. Nothing else is in this directory.
Hi, i've set up zen cart without any problems. I'm trying to install 'easy populate' with zen cart. Everything has seemed to work perfectly until I try to access the 'temp' folder through 'Tools > easy populate' in the zen cart admin (check pics below). Everytime I do try to upload or click any of the links, it takes me to the zen cart admin login screen. I'm not even logged out, I can simply hit back and I'm still logged in. I've been trying to fix this for about 5 hours without any luck. I have set the 'temp' folder permissions to 777 and that doesn't solve it.
Anything I do on this screen:
http://img816.imageshack.us/img816/7969/67212706.jpg
it goes to this screen:
http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/9319/25372705.jpg
Thanks, I'm sure this is an easy fix, I'm not a coding pro, I just know enough to break stuff

I am working on getting my zen cart up and running, so right now i have it working in a preview mode from Go Daddy. This evening I uploaded Easy Populate into the zen cart directory. I am not understanding how to actually install this add on. All of the files were put into the same directory as the zen cart files, and i don't find a file called set up or where to go to install it as it does not appear in the admin - tools section.
Perhaps i missed a step or am just not understanding. Any help would be appreciated.

Firstly... You have my sympathies (GoDaddy is propably the worst place to host eCommerce - I hope you let common sense prevail and move to a better hosting environment).
Anyway... There are TWO folders (and several files) in an UNZIPPED download of Easy Populate 1.2.5.4
(You should use version 1.2.5.4 as it is the most stable right now).
These folders are:
admin
temp
(Then there are a few FILES... but ignore those for now).
In your FTP program, navigatge to the ROOT of your installation on the server... The place where you see these folders:
cache
download
extras
email
images
includes
media
pub
(and depending on how your admin folder is named)...
zc_admin (or)
myadminfolder (or)
some_other_name_i_have_given_to_admin_folder
All you need do is MAKE SURE that the "admin" folder in the unzipped copy of easy Populate is given the SAME NAME as your admin folder.
The all you do is FTP this admin folder and the temp folder to the root installation of your zencart.
EG:
In your FTP program.
LOCAL PANE . . . . . . | . . . . . . REMOTE PANE
zc_admin . . . . . . . . | . . . . . . zc_admin
temp . . . . . . . . . . . | . . . . . .

I personally would suggest (and love) 1and1.com.
They are great for ease of use and there customer service is top notch. Also on top of that they are cheap.
One negative that I have found is thaat for the SSL you must use there company which costs $150 a year where as through Go Daddy you can get an SSL for $12.95 a year with the exact same quailty service. There is someone on here (I think it is Kobra) who works for a hosting company which seems decent but I think they are based in Europe. If you search the forum for 'Hosting companies' you should see a bunch of places people recommend. I would suggest looking at the places suggested by people like, SchoolBoy, Kobra, Dr. Byte, etc!
Just my thoughts.

1and1 is probably on a "par" with GoDaddy...
The thing with these "mass" web-hosts is that they are "stack-em-high, sell-em-cheap" operations. They load their servers to the absolute limit (and beyond), they run antiquated hardware and server software, they do minimal configuration (usually to avoid paying fees to other software providers), and they are generally clueless about best-practise when it comes to sophisticated programs like eCommerce.
There are many technical reasons why using a good host is important when doing eCommerce, and quite a few business reasons too. (Reliability, security, support and service...)
If you want to host in a proper environment, consider using one of the certified hosts (link at the top of your screen.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi,
Zencart 1.3.8a
easy populate 1.2.2.5a
Problem
I have large html descriptions on my products and they seem to be breaking across multiple lines when I download the full ep file to make changes. This means I get 400+ lines under each product line in the csv but not in the description field.
Has anyone else come across this and have a solution?
Thanks in advance.

Simon,
Have you tried 1.2.5.4? Some of the 'updated' versions are questionable. Also, if you have more than 255 characters in a descrption, you need to use OpenOffice. Excel is limited.
Check your mailbox, I've sent pm.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I am new to Zen Cart and Easy Populate and have created a small file (about 10 products) to see if I can get EP to work. When I upload it I get the following error.
No model field in record. This line was not imported
I have tried putting numbers and letters and a combination of both in this field but am still getting the same error.
Is there a document available that walks you through EP?
Thanks,
Ken

Ken,
Give Schoolboy's wiki a read...
http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Easy_Populate
One thing to note is that you must have a unique model number for v_products_model and you will need to specify the categories.
If you spelled v_products_model wrong, that will give you trouble. Best to create 1 product in the store, then do a full export to get your column headers.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Good Day
I succeeded in getting EP to work by saving the file as a CSV file and not a txt file.
I have 1300 digital products in my store at this time and am wondering if it is possible to add the attributes in EP somewhere, and also the download file name.
On a separate note, I have my hosting with GoDaddy (I know, my bad) but cant move it right now. The issue I am having is that I have my zencart inside a directory called ZenCart, and can\t get the page to open up to my main zencart page as GoDaddy requires the file be named Welcome.html. Is there a way to have the Welcome.html forward to my zencart page, or better yet, is there a way to get around this and remove the ZenCart directory, or is that going to create a real mess.
thanks,
Ken

Try this for kicks.
1 delete that page welcome.html. (not required)
2. insert this page and call it "index.htm"
<body>
<script>
/*
Count down then redirect script 2
By William Kemper (kemperwilliam##########################)
For this script and more, visit http://javascriptkit.com
*/
//specify redirect url
var redirecturl="http://www.yoursite/zencart/"
//specify pause duration before redirection (in seconds)
var pausefor=3
//DONE EDITING
function postaction(){
if (window.timer){
clearInterval(timer)
clearInterval(timer_2)
}
window.location=redirecturl
}
setTimeout("postaction()",pausefor*1000)
</script>
</body>
See the line that says var redirecturl=
Change that to the actual path of your zencart store.
Should work for now.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Ken,
I might mention the var line shows 3 meaning it delays for three seconds then goes to your page. You can set that to 2 seconds.
Anyway, this posting is off topic... sorry

welcome.html is NOT a required file.. It's a placeholder page Go Daddy places in the root of your site.. Delete it and MOVE all the folders in your Zen Cart directory to the root of your site (where the welcome.html file is located.. Search the forum or FAQs for detailed instructions how to move a Zen Cart site.. A detailed discussion on moving a store is off-topic for this support thread..
