Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
This has probably been answered, but search doesn't bring it up.
I have installed EP, and works great.
I have just installed product/profit margin calculator report contribution. Installed and works great.
When I get a complete .csv from EP it adds a single field "easypoplate custom field". I understand why.
My question is what file/files do I need to modify to add a field for Cost (products_cost) and Mark up (products_markup)?
Thanks,
Hawk

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I want to set up all products to include the digital download automatically. The download is the same number as the model number. Is there someway to do this in a bulk setting, and not having to do them one at a time? I am not sure if Easy Populate or some other modification will do the trick.
Can you add new criteria to EP or only the fields that are currently in the default listing.
Ken

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
One problem and one question..
Installed the free version of Easy Populate off the zen-cart free addons page. I have the latest version of zen-cart freshly installed few days ago. Everything seems to be working except..
Problem)
When I create/download EP tab-delimited files to export into spreadsheet, it is only listing the one category I have a test product in. I have a couple dozen categories setup with some sub-categories, all empty.
I am trying to get a full download of the categories, so I can structure all my categories/sub-categories in excel.
How do I get it to export all the categories, including all the empty ones?
Question)
How do I duplicate an entire structure (category, sub-categories, and all products contained within) into another structure that is identical, but where the products and categories are uniquely identified (IE: not linked, but separate entries).
Thank you in advance for the help. I have not been able to find documentation on these two issues yet.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
popeyeTry a different browser. Yes its a pain in the ***
harleyx 1.Basically EP will only download the product list not categories as EP is designed to be a 'product' editor/import tool, not a category editor.
2. EP works by a unique product key ie 'v_products_model', EP will populate a category if you enter that category with a product. If you do not want 'linked' products just enter the same product detail with a different 'v_products_model' key.
kenwvs Search this thread for adding fields to EP

I always use Modzilla for all my site work. It seems to work flawless.
Anything I recoomend is using and following the Wiki about how to use EP. I have it book marked.

Another tip is to only have a couple of windows open when you doing the work. the less multi-tasking work your computer has to the better.
hope that helps.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I searched the forum but couldn't find this issue addressed. I apologize in advance if my Boolean skills have failed.
I am using Zen Cart v1.3.9h and Easy Populate v1.2.5.4 in both cases, right out of the box with no modifications beyond a custom template.
First let me tell you how I proceeded (in case you're interested in the "bugs" I encountered) and then I'll get to the real reason I'm posting.
Everything was working fine in the store, including manual category creation and product entry and a five product, 3 category test run of EP yielded perfect results. YAY! :clap:
OK, so despite warnings against it, I tried to EP a 6500 product file which was on the server in the /temp directory - without splitting the file. My browser window went blank and sat that way until I hit the back button 15 mins later. Nothing was populated. No errors, just the blank screen (Firefox 3.6.13 on Windoze Vista). Yes, I knew it was a foolish attempt, but I figured I'd start with the lazy method first and then move on.
Next, I told it to auto-split the file at the default 300 products each. I got 22 files after another session of "white-sceen" (the browser is just blank. no "waiting for..." no "busy" icon, just "done" as if it meant to load a blank. ANYWAY, it split the file just fine and I then proceeded to manually populate the store using each of the 22 files. It went perfectly and I was quite pleased with the result. At first...
The source file (a tab-delimited file generated from Excel) was huge: 6500 unique products. I massaged it myself from a less than perfect source, but I was confident that despite some inevitable clean-up within the store, the data fit the requirements and limitations as set forth by EP instructions and Wiki and everywhere else I looked. However, when I looked at the total products actually populated, the store only reported 6000! 500 fewer than it should have been. EP gave no error messages, there was nothing obviously wrong anywhere so I was at a loss.
I made a download of the store's inventory using EP and compared it to the original file to see what I might find out about the products that were not populated. I expected a clerical error, but couldn't find a single thing wrong with any of them. Nothing! I tried a small sample file with just the "broken" prods and a couple good ones and they still wouldn't load, while the good ones did. I noticed then that the categories for these "bad" prods were also not created. Was that the trouble? I tried manually creating those categories and it went flawlessly... except for one detail: their names were truncated.
What seems to have happened is that when EP gets a category that has a name longer than 32 chars, it skips the category and product and moves on. That would be all well and good, since I should (?) have known to keep the category names 32 chars or less, but there was no error message from EP. Nothing. I could see if EP truncated the name automatically and then it would be up to me to clean it up, OR give me an error message (and even create a "fail-file" where it dumps all prods not able to be populated), but to just ignore them and move on was kind of lousy.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that fact that EP was created (THANK YOU!) and perhaps the latest-and-greatest version will address this, but PLEASE OH PLEASE at the very least include a comment in the wiki or other instruction manual that category names MUST be 32 chars or less. I didn't have to work too hard to figure it out, but I could see a lot of people getting really frustrated by this - something that could be avoided quite easliy.
Thanks for listening and thanks again for a great contribution!

Actually, mine is set to 64 characters. You have to edit your MySQL table to increase your character limit for the categories description table. Once you do that, you're set. But be careful when you're messing with phpmyadmin.

Yes, I could have adjusted it first (thanks for the tip!) but like me, most people are probably going to go with defaults and without any mention of this issue right up front, it could get frustrating for a lot of people, real fast!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I've skimmed much of the 300+ pages of this thread and haven't found this problem. There isn't any mention of it I can find in the faq. There is one other thread with the exact same problem, but there were no replies. If it has been addressed, can someone please post a link?
I just used EP 1.2.5.4 (downloaded from langer's modhole) to upload nearly 15k products to my site. I used the split function, but kept getting a "no product number" loading error. So I opened the .csv file and broke it up myself. I found that somewhere between downloading the file from my distributor, changing it from comma-delimited to tab-delimited, and uploading it to my site, I must have screwed up because products with a price that included a comma had an extra field, causing the upload problem. So, I fixed the field length problem, and uploaded all the products, in 300-field files, with no problems.
Problem is, when I try to access the product/category function in admin, I now get the error:
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 60 seconds exceeded in (mydomain)zencart/renamed admin)/includes/functions/general.php on line 220

Did I just overload the capacity of zencart, or is there a solution to this?
edit: I should mention I've had the site up and running with a hundred or so products for a couple years with few problems.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Not sure about alot of the problems as I haven't encounted them, however the overloading the capacity of Zen-cart, I have about the same number of products and no issues.
I did have issues using the slpit function too the first time I used EP, but now I do it all manually and have never had another issue.
Good luck.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
forestfrogsllc Its looks like you are trying to up load too many products at once (300 is the ma I would upload at once),also your hosting company looks to have limits on php memory and script running time, which is set to 60 seconds so as soon as the .php file runs over 60 seconds the import will fail.

I did break up the file, and got it uploaded. The problem occured later, when I was timing out when trying to view the category/product page after I uploaded everything.
The problem was entirely my fault.
At some point, when I was converting from the comma-delimited file provided by the distributor to the tab-delimited file for EP, I must have allowed BOTH commas and tabs to be delimiters. Any product with a price of more than $999 had a comma in it, so those records ended up with additional fields. This bumped all the fields beyond the new fields out of synch with the field labels. So, the V_category1 field in those records had data from the v_quantity field in it. This caused EP to create a new category for each record which had a different number of products in inventory (using the number of products as the category name). I had so many categories that loading them timed out the server.
I finally managed to get the extra categories deleted, and the ISP reset me to version 5 PHP so the website would load, and we are back up and running.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I'm having a problem with EP 1.2.4.5
I am stocking a second site with products and using the same versions of ZC 1.3.9 and EP. I have no problem uploading to my first site, but for some reason the second one is not loading the files.
I have tested this on my first site and they load just fine, then I take the same unaltered file and try to upload to the second site, and it won't take. I have tried many different types like txt, csv, tsv, xml, etc
Any Ideas?
The only difference I can think of is that my first site is hosted on godaddy (crappy host, I know), and my other one (still in test phase), is hosted on some free site (Once I get everything set up right, I plan to transfer to a good host.)
The permissions of the temp folder are set to 755, just like the one godaddy (or the 755+ equivalent)
Also, the first site has a few add-ons like Image handler (though it is disabled at the moment), EP, etc nothing really extravagant.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Matt

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hello Matt
By far the majority of problems people experience with EP are the result of incorrectly-formatted tab-delimited TXT files. It is essential that the txt file is absolutely "clean" and follows the exact protocols described in Langer's readme instructions.
The way to check whether EP is behaving as it should, is to try a "test" upload - a few "test" products in an EP TXT file that you know is absolutely proper and free of all unwanted formatting.
If the file loads, then the EP program is not at fault.
Image Hander will not have any effect on EP. I have both on most sites we manage and have never had a conflict.
GoDaddy could be a problem of course. It is without question the worst possible place in the entire universe to host an eCommerce site and we avoid them like the plague.

Here's something strange:
Hi, I had trouble with this mod right away when I installed it. I still can't create a tab-delimited .txt file in excel (using v.14.0.0 for mac).
All I got was an error message stating model-number was missing and as a consequence of this a failed upload.
However, when I downloaded Full-EP2011Jan30-2109.txt (the sample file that comes with the installation) and pasted the information from my spreadsheet to the same file (Full-EP2011Jan30-2109.txt) Easy Populate worked just perfect. I don't know I don't get this.. is Excel unable to create tab-delimited files??
Thanks!

Jacob,
On MAC you are much better off using Open Office to export your CSV file. OO will properly quote all fields on export where Mac Excel sort of does it's own thing. I also work on mac and have had this issue. Also, when exporting from OO click "edit filter settings" when saving and be sure to select the proper encoding, ie. UTF-8 vs ISO 8859-1 (depending on your langugage). This is ensure you don't get odd characters in you import.
I will often work in Excel to do most of my copy/edits, but switch to OO to save to CSV.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Thanks for the info!
I just recently restored my old db and used Easy Populate to upload new articles to my new category. The category now states there are 83 products in the new category (under quantity). However, when I navigate to the category it's completely empty. None of the 83 products appear... strange??? I used v.1.3.9f for this install.
Yesterday I uploaded the same articles to a fresh install of zencart (also using v.1.3.9f) and on a completely new db. Everything worked as it should... so what intricate part am I missing???
Thanks!

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I actually discovered a neat "trick" recently.
Instead of SAVING the spreadsheet as a TAB-TXT file, I HIGHLIGHTED the full cell range of the spreadsheet and COPIED it to clipboard.
I then PASTED it directly into a blank EMERALD EDITOR file.
Guess what...? It resulted in a perfectly formatted, TAB-TXT file!
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Interesting thing happened and I don't know why.
I have not had any problems with EP until this last upload trial.
I have about 6k products to upload, but to make sure everything is where it should be, I used a smaller size, around 400 products.
Everything went in perfectly - except the pics.
I have checked the spreadsheet to make sure the model #s lined up with product image #, A-OK
I then checked the images on my server, check a small sample size around 20 pics - they are named right and line up accordingly.
I then checked my files on my harddrive, those all checked out OK.
After finding nothing with things on my end, I tried a new upload - same result.
For some reason, EP is transposing numbers in the filenames - i.e. 403547.jpg gets uploaded to item # 403457
This is true for every image - except the 10 or so that I fixed afterwards.
ps - oddly enough, when I changed those 10 that I mentioned, the correct image was shown as uploaded - item number 403547 had pic 403547.jpg already uploaded. But was showing wrong picture on website - 403457.jpg
Thoughts?
pps - Also, since I have your attention, if I try to use the Split File Function, it only uploads the item on the first line of each file, not any of the others.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi
I am loving EP :) Thanks to those that made this contribution possible. :clap:
I just have one slight problem.
My problem is that when I import my EP file (in .txt) format I can't seem to find the products in the Admin search.
What I mean by this is - if I import my file, the import is successful and I can see the new products in customer view BUT when I go into admin and type the product/product phrase into the admin search it comes up empty. If I manually look for the products they are listed there.
Please advise if I am doing something wrong.

Well I've tried all I could before posting here.
I have my Tab Dilimited File set up with only 300 products.
1.2.5.4 Easy Populate with ZenCart 1.3.9h installed. No errors during installation.
Everytime I try to import the file I get the results in my example1.jpg, however there is nothing in my database. No products.
I've included my file incase someone is interested in looking for where I went wrong.
Thank you if you can help.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Scupoli,
I believe this version of EP requires a column with title EOREOR, and with EOREOR at the end of every line, other wise it treats the entire file as 1 record :(
It's often best to enter a products by hand first, then do an export.
Also, are you references images OFF site? Normally, these will be under your /images/ folder, and you would only need to reference the actually image name as the path is determined by Zencart.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
What version of Easy Populate should I use? I don't understand why it is so difficult getting this contribution to work for everyone.
There is a $65.00 version floating around. Maybe that is why nobody wants to fix the free one.

To be honest, I'm not familiar with the issue you are describing. Usually after an upload with products not showing under Categories you'd need to update Master Categories id and sometime Products Price Sorter.
In your Admin under Tools -> Store Manager
Try updating your Master Categories ID.
Check your search, then try one of the others. Let us know if it fixes your issue.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Also see post 3231. He has the same issue.
It's like that. i updated my store and all products and categories are there. for the customer as well as for the admin section.
The customer can see and search just fine but when i try to find a product in the admin section - using the search - nothing shows up.
I basically have to try to find the product manually - that requires to know what category they are in and so forth.
Again, using search in the store is just fine, searching in admin doesn't work

I'm sorry. I'm unaware of this issues as related to EP. Perhaps searching main forum for "broken admin search" ...? I have not seen this behavior from EP.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
it has to do w/EP. reason:
the store was working just fine. then, i had to exchange all products and used EP to create the products offline. uploaded the pix and EP file and the error was there.

Steve,
Do you know how to use phpMyAdmin? Did you use the Database backup tool to make a full backup before uploading your new data? Did you work on a test version of your website before doing so on your live site?
If you do a full export and PM me with a link, I'll look at your data. You are using 1.2.5.4? Not some other version? Some of the other versions have "issues" ...
One thing to note, the ADMIN search and STORE FRONT search are not the exact same. There are differences, but I am not the right person to numerate them.
It may simply be a parameter.
Does your categories tree in the Admin work correctly? You don't have duplicate item numbers? Do you have any linked products?

No, Langer's EP 3.0 Advanced version has no support. He has not been "seen" for several years.
Several people have tried to update EP with varying results, often without fully testing the code and producing more or different problems than are in 1.2.5.4. Also, most of these attempts have been patches without truly understanding the underlying code. Others have fixed one thing only to break another. So in the
end most people "revert" back to 1.2.5.4 because it works.
If you read the wiki posted by schoolboy, and followed his instruction, you shouldn't have any problems.
There are two versions on github that you may be interested in. Though the one by jrobeson is not compatible with 1.3.9 and he has taken a very divergent path of late toward zenmagik. But you are welcome to try my "alpha" code:
https://github.com/chaddro/EasyPopulate-4.0
If you have any questions or problems, you'll have to pm me as I will not offer support on this forum until released and approved by the zencart team, and then only in it's own thread. I do not have a date to completion either as paid projects take precedent of free open-source ones. Hopefully I'll get some free time to finish and round out the attribute import, but I said that last year about this time!

This does seem to be a problem with EP.

As product_is_call is a field within the products table, it is possible to EDIT the easypopulate.php file to include this field in your Easy Populate activity.
Lankeeyankee explains how to ADD EXTRA PRODUCT FIELDS to the easypopulate.php file:

Hi I am new to EP and have read almost everything I could get my hands on for EP. I for some reason can not get it to do anything at all. I do mean I can not get it to do anything. What am I doing wrong? I am running windows 7 with iis7 and php4. thanks.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
I'm trying to install EP Free. I tried reading the install txt file several times. I used an auto-installer on my host to install zencart so I don't know the name of my admin directory. I assume its generic? I use www.mydomain.com/manage to get to the admin panel. What I did to install:
-uploaded temp folder to root directory (zencart is in root directory)
-uploaded easypopulate.php (located in install file > admin > easypopulate.php) to root directory
-uploaded all 4 files (box, functions, etc) in includes to the includes on my site
there is no easy populate under tools. what am i doing wrong?

ok i've went through each of the admin folders to ensure the .php files are in my site (ie: admin\includes\boxes\extra_boxes has easypopulate_tools_dhtml.php in it). temp folder is in public_html folder. what am i missing?

The answer is simple...
You are trying to manage your site in completely the wrong manner.
Learn how to use FTP and a proper plain text editor. Install a FTP program on your local machine. Use it for loading files.

Technically, yes. But you should check the collation of your databases. If you use OpenOffice, and export your txt file (Save As "Text CSV") and then check "Edit Filter Settings" before pressing the save button, then you will get the option to choose your Character Set.
Perhaps the best way to test this is to add a test product with the charaters you need to support, export that via EP, and open with OO. USE OO and excel tends to mess things up my experience. Export from OO with a compatible character set (UTF-8?) and then re-import via EP.
Let us know how that worked.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Easypopulate stopped working.
I upload the cvs

No products get updated or added.
Any idea as to what that could be?

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hey guys,
I need to be able to export a file to the temp folder, but i need the file to be the same name each time becuase I want it to be downloaded by ftp each day. FTP will be set to run at a specific time every day to download a file of a particular name.
I was looking in the admin/easypopulate.php file to see if there was somehting there to give me a clue as to how/where the filename is generated.
I found this line of code..
Code:
header("Content-disposition: attachment; filename=$EXPORT_TIME.txt");
on line 1072, which gets its info from this..
Code:
//$EXPORT_TIME=time();
$EXPORT_TIME = strftime('%Y%b%d-%H%I');
switch ($ep_dltype) {
case 'full':
$EXPORT_TIME = "Full-EP" . $EXPORT_TIME;
break;
case 'priceqty':
$EXPORT_TIME = "PriceQty-EP" . $EXPORT_TIME;
break;
case 'category':
$EXPORT_TIME = "Category-EP" . $EXPORT_TIME;
break;
case 'froogle':
$EXPORT_TIME = "Froogle-EP" . $EXPORT_TIME;
break;
case 'attrib':
$EXPORT_TIME = "Attributes-EP" . $EXPORT_TIME;
break;
}
online 1046 to 1064.
If I was to change
Code:
$EXPORT_TIME = "Full-EP" . $EXPORT_TIME;
to
Code:
$EXPORT_TIME = "myfilename";
would that work without screwing anything up.
Or am I way off the mark completly @@

Hi, been using easy populate for only a day now. Ive installed it fine and I populated my database once using it and everything went perfectly. But now when ever I try populate it again it doesn't work, when I upload the file it says that it has been uploaded successfully but nothing seems to upload when you go to the webpage!
Can anybody help me with this please?

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi Niall058,
Ar eyou sure you are using the right file format.. EP 1.2.5.4 uses Tab Delimited .txt files. If you using a newer version of EP then you need to save your files as Comma Delimited .csv format.
Sometimes thats overlooked, so thought I woul dmention it.
If your still having trouble with it, download one the the newer versions of EP and install it. Make sure to change the temp directory name in ADMIN > CONFIGURATION > EASY POPULATE.
Another thing you shoudl check is the size of the file your trying to imort, if it has a ton of products in it, it may be taking a long time ro import and timing out.. Maybe break the file down into 2 files if this is the case.
OR... You could try using ftp to upload the file to the temp directory public_html/temp/ and import it from there by typing in the filename into the last input box on the EP page in admin.
Also, just to be on the safe side you could check th error logs and see if they can tell you anything.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
For anyone wondering something similar, just do as below and that way you can edit the export file name to one of your choosing.. great if you need to have same file name all the time if linking with other scripts/programs.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
ZC v1.39H
ER v1.2.5.4
I updated my tab delimited txt file (excel '07). and saved the work I did (deleted 3 characters from a product description, that's it).
Uploaded to my host (temp/) and tried to import and insert via the admin panel.
I get this:
Quote:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator,
[email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
After trying uploading a copy that I confirmed was good by using it on my local host I got the same result.
Debug file reads as follows:
Quote:
[26-Feb-2011 15:55:35] PHP Warning: file(/home/seriouso/public_html/temp/SOPMasterv2) [<a href='function.file'>function.file</a>]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/seriouso/public_html/SeriousAdmin/easypopulate.php on line 1201
[26-Feb-2011 15:55:35] PHP Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/seriouso/public_html/SeriousAdmin/easypopulate.php on line 1279
So I download a copy of the file and compared it to the same file on my PC, the two lines listed in the Debug report are identical.
So know i turn yo you good people for a compass, a mile marker, a Town Cryer......
What do I check next?

dont use excel. Try using open office.
and dont bother uploading to the /temp folder. Just upload directly from your PC via the ZC admin backend part of EP. Make sure you save it as a .txt too
I had lots of problems with EP when I started. its a massive lerning curve. Oh and check it is installed right. Download a fresh copy and the copy on your server and winmerge. Check the db too.,

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Earlier on this thread I suggested a neat trick that seems to assist with the tendency of both Excel AND Openoffice, to write formatting into the eventual TXT file that EP needs to be so squeaky clean.
This is what I do now...
If I have a LARGE number of products (over 1000), I split the spreadsheet into manageable "chunks", of say 300 - 400 products per sheet.
Then I work methodically through each sheet to make sure that the actual data in the sheet is not formatted in any way, other than the standard HTML tags that I manually insert into the text (typically in the product description text, where I may want a bulleted list to render on the browser page.
I look for instances where - for example - spreadsheet-formatted "line breaks" appear in the text. These are often obvious... look at the data in a cell, and if it appears to be in paragraphs, then you can be sure there is a formatted line break there. This must be removed, and in its place a <br /> tag inserted.
SO... a product description that looks like THIS in my spreadsheet...
This is a great product.
It has the following features:-
- It is compact
- It weighs only 1kg
- I comes in various sizes
There are many advantages to using this product as it can do A B and C all at once.
Make sure you look at product XYZ as well
Will have ALL the embedded formatting removed, and replaced with...
HTML Code:
<b>This is a great product.<b><br /><br />It has the following features:-<ul><li>It is compact</li>It weighs only 1kg</li>I comes in various sizes</li></ul><br /><br />There are many advantages to using this product as it can do A B and C all at once. <em>Make sure you look at product XYZ as well.</em>
Then... when I am SURE that all my data is clean and free of hidden formatting, I open EMERALD EDITOR...
I then go back to Excel (or OpenOffice) and highlight the sheet and <ctrl + c> (copy it).
I then go to Emerald Editor and <ctrl + v> (paste it).
I now have a perfect tab-delimited TXT file...

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
And I suppose I should ask....
WHY use Open Office instead of Excel.
I downloaded a copy and it looks a lot like Excel.
And while I'm asking questions, try this one;
I purchased a copy of Ceon Advanced Shipper to allow me to set multiple shipping rates. I've gone through the documentation and it seems fairly straight forwrd, but I still need a way to place a shipping code (Single Character) on either an Excel or O.O tab delimited spreadsheet to be loaded into Easy Populate.
This shipping code is part of my product spread sheets from my vendor. The code designates the shipping cost.
Anyone have any flashes of brilliance?

I believe it is to do with the way Microsoft products (office, notepad etc) format data. I believe Excel adds additional hidden formatting/stuff which messes things up. (I could be wrong).
There is a way to add additional fields to EP. I have added 'sort odder' to my EP. If you search for my posts within this thread I believe i have linked to the resource which shows you how to do this. But i have a feeling what you are asking for is not accommodated, you may need to beg/pay for this bespoke request.
Wish I could help more, but my php skill set does not appear to be that much higher than yours. I can 'scrape by' on most things already created (simply modifications) but I have to outsource all bespoke work.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Dutchy,
Found the post you referenced and I see where you added 'v_products_sort_order' and i have seen the thread on how add/edit the column headings.
So what does this change do for you and how are you using it?
Did you have to add 'v_products_sort_order' to your structure in PhpAdmin or was it already there? I don't see it when I view mine.
-
Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
i dont recall having to make db changes, i think it was all file changes. It allows me to specify the sort order of my products as several hundred products I sell need to be listed differently to the standard ZC alphabetical method. That was not a fun afternoon for me. tried it on four test sites before going live, of course - back up back up back up

THREE main reasons:
1) OO allow text long than 256 character to be exported to CSV/TXT, excel will truncate to 256 even if longer
2) OO will correctly encapsulate all fields with your chosen delimiter ... most likely the "", excel does whatever it wants
3) OO will let you chose your character set on export, i.e. UTF-8, ISSO-8559-1, etc.

Ok, Love Easy populate - simple to use! Am currently testing on my local before going live.
However, I'm having a duplicating issue happening and can't seem to find the answer.
I have posted that question in the link below - so that people can find it easier in a search - or they can add in their duplication issues as well (keeping items of the same topic in one location).
I've read through some(a lot) of the items in this thread but can't seem to find an answer. Here's the thread:

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi all,
I thought this issue was mentioned and hopefully resolved in this forum but I couldn't find any related solution.
I'm currently using Zen Cart 1.3.9h and E.P. 1.2.5.4.
I have successfully installed E.P. and been using it for about a month without a problem until yesterday.
I learned that on zencart admin, under category, when I was trying to search an item that I added using E.P., it did not come out. It was my first time searching an item that's added using E.P. So I thought there was a problem or something so I checked the catalog and there was the item I was looking for! Also when I manually searched the item on admin page, there was the item as well.
What could be the problem?
I started manually adding items from yesterday and all manually added items came out just fine when I use search on admin page.
Please help! :)

Thanks to the support team over at Hostgator.com, I was able have this issue resolved. It was a rather easy fix.
"The issue was with YOUR_ADMIN/includes/configure.php. In there was:
define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://YOUR_DOMAIN.com/');
We removed the trailing '/' here so the url is no longer
http://YOUR_DOMAIN.com//manage and is now using
http://YOUR_DOMAIN/manage. Once these changes were made and we re-logged into the zen-cart admin, it began working again."
I spent 2 whole days trying to figure this out. Again, big ups to hostgator support.
I found a soluation, but not fit to me
My YOUR_ADMIN/includes/configure.php is
define('HTTP_SERVER', 'http://127.0.0.1');
define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://127.0.0.1');
define('HTTP_CATALOG_SERVER', 'http://127.0.0.1');

After rereading your post. i understand what you were saying. In fact, that is what I did. Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi, I'm just getting startde with easy populate and I have a few questions.
I'm trying to make updating the site as simple as possible so I was wondering if
I can rename v_products etc in the code to match our products database file?
or if not,
i could use an OO macro to format the products file - rename /reorder columns and if anyone has done that or could help?
I don't need attributes or group pricing so is there any advantage in using those or should i stick with 1.2.4.5? What about easy populate CSV?
Do the columns in the products upload file need to be in order or just renamed?
Thanks,

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Hi, I've been playing around with 1.2.5.4 for a while as well as the newer versions.
1.2.5.4 only accepts TABdelimited files, but you also have to pay close attention to the FIELD-delimiter. That must be the " on both sides. Safest thing to do is to open the file in e.g. Open Office write, then copy the lot to a spreadsheet page, work it over there, then copy it back to write, convert the table back to text and save it from there to a new TXT-file. I've got a million or so (well... 70+) different files saved and all EP does is upload it and that's it.
You can go another way, but that is way more tricky and I advise you to really really first backup your complete database very well:
If you only use a few fields, you can make a CSV-dump from PHPmyadmin, edit that and re-import that. Make sure you have you set the import to overwrite.
DON't use it when you have attributes and make sure you have the category and subcategory numbers right.

For example, you may have my-image.jpg in one of the cells.
Just tell us EXACTLY the name (or words) you have entered into one of these cells.

Re: Easy Populate support for Version 1.2.5.4
Is there a way to attribute multiple styles in ep? In other words is I had an item that comes in three colors and wanted to provide a color select box on the product page, how would I do this with ep?
Also how would I make an item from one subcategory be a linked item in another subcategory?
Thanks in advance.

Ok - I had a real bugger of a time with the images but got it working. Since I have a lot (photography) I needed a good structure to keep organised. Here's how I did it (going from memory will double chech when I get home):
Do this on your local first :smile:
When you make a category (via admin) put the image for that item into the main directory - it will keep in separate from the others and cause less headaches.
For the store images make a structure something like this:
Store Images
Folder 1 (Canada)
Folder 2 (USA)
Etc - again I do ith this way because I have a ton of pictures that I need to put into groups some people like to put them altogether - do what ever works best for you.
Now - it's all about the path - with the way EZpop works with images.
Set up only 1 catagory - via the admin process - make sure that you use the image in the order in which you have them set up on your local.
Export your EZpop file
you will now see the location for that file - catagory/image
Set up 1 subcategory and include a image -repeat export
you will now see the category/sub-category/image name
Keep doing this so that you have at least 1 path for everything on your excel sheet. Then all you have to do is copy paste the data from one cell to another and change the name of the image.
Once you get it working on your local - you transfer all the images over (maintaining the same structure) and then upload youe excel sheet - you should then see all the images in the right spots on your live shop.
