Auction Product Type

I have been working for quite awhile now, trying to get a fully functioning auction for one of my customers and have been fighting problems with the email notifications. Here is what I have found so far with my testing. When you run the first auction, the winner of that auction, is then listed as the winner of all subsequent auctions, even ones they did not bid on, if the first auction winner has not processed thru the pay now. They are listed as the winner, until they have finished the pay now process. Then the winner of the next auction, is the winner of all subsequent auctions again, until they process their payment.

It's like the database is not updated or refreshed or whatever, to clear the previous winner. When you go to the site itself, the correct winner of the auction, is shown they have won and they get the pay now. But the winning email does not go to them, unless the previous winner had processed thru the pay now.

Not all people pay instantly when they win. There needs to be a way to clear them from the database winning bid, after they win, but before they pay, so they don't always appear to be the winner of all subsequent auctions.

I am using ZenCart 1.3.8 a Database patch level 1.3.8 Auction product type mod 0.99a. The email options were tested trying PHP and sendmail, currently it's set to sendmail. I have this setup as a test site, if you would like to look, I can PM you the access information.

I hope I have explained the problem, in as much detail as possible, while keeping from making it confusing. If you need more details or clarification. Feel free to contact me! I would really like to get this going. I have been working for way to long and have too much time invested, to make it profitable. I need to get it working for my customer ASAP. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

I have at least become fairly familiar with the ZenCart and the auction mod with all the troubleshooting and testing I have done, so if anyone else needs this installed or help, I will have a fairly good idea of what to do and what not to do. That is once the email problem can be solved. Thanks again! :frusty:

Never had problems like your describing. The mail functions with PHP and sendmail, my live site is set on PHP and my testing server is using open sendmail. I've just fished installing a count down clock. If it was having problems like your describing, I wouldn't have it up running live.

During my testing, the database was clearing past winners after they cleared the buying process and never had cross issues. I've started with an older version and worked my way through 99a, not sure where I'm at with versions... testing with php5 and mysql 5 or so.... live site, php5 mysql 4. with zen 1.3.8a.

I also havent had those kind of problems. When I get stuck, i install a test site and ONLY the mod I am playing with. If it works, then I know that the mod itself is OK and there is something else bad (such as 2 mods that dont play nicely together).

I have heard about the email problems, but I have seen what Dave has with regard to PHP and sendmail. One of them usually works.

Can anyone tell me why the I am getting a 'contact us' instead of a buy now button?

Also when I bid up to the reserve price all options disappeared and there was no indication that I had won. In the bottom right hand corner it shows the two test bids as below

Previous Bids
£15.00 - Bidder ID: 1
£1.00 - Bidder ID: 1

I entered and notification at the top that I am the highest bidder as below

Auction ends in 7 days 0 hours 7 minutes - 2 Bids
Current Highest Bid: £15.00
You are the current high bidder!

despite the auction finishing.

I actually love this contribution and would be delighted if I could resolve these problems.

There is also no indication what the start bid is despite setting this up.

There is a lot in here.

I cannot explain the no payment options. auction doesnt play with those settings, so if you had a payment method before it should still be there if you properly applied the mod

The lack of detection of end of auction could happen if you set the CRON option ON and didnt install a CRON job. It is safest to set it OFF until after you get the site working.

I have a problem in that the "Buy Now" button is displaying in the category/product listing page - even though I have this set to zero under the Configuration menu and haven't specified a Buy It Now price in the item listing. Right now, anyone can put an item in their cart and pay for it - at whatever the auction price is now.

Any ideas on how I can solve this?

You know, actually, I just turned off that box for the whole site on the listing pages. Maybe it's what you have to do if you're running auctions? Anyway, it will work for us.

Also, maybe I'm missing it, but is there a plan to or has anyone come up with more of an "auction admin" mod so that my client can see who the winners are to track them down if necessary? I don't want to have to delve into the database every time an auction closes.

when i click on the link for auctions i get a blank page and the message:

Sorry, the product was not found.

cant figure out what i am missing. what file controls the product display and why are they not showing??

sorry if this sounds dumb,,,,
did you create a cat called Auctions , turn it on, then add items making them available date wise and also enable them?

Dont get excited. There is VERY little in there that is different that the published version, but you should work off the latest source base.

PM me where I can send the zip back, our I can place it up on me blog.

I've added the edits I did for my site and removed my formatting, tested on basic 1.3.8a cart. I fix the extra image problem so it works with fual slimbox, added a countdown clock, added admin panel so you can see where and what the high bid is, also can reset the auction back to the beginning for restarting a finished auction. added email button for emailing auction participants.
Been to busy to do the reserve not mat email thing.
