Re: Image Handler 2 Support
OK I'm stuck...
I've uploaded the files to their correct directories, and that's about it.... I've tried reinstalling them. No Joy. Nothing appears in the tool menu.
The only addon I have are additional sideboxes. Both IH and ZC are up to date. Any suggestion why they do not appear in the tools menu?
Warm Regards,

Yes, I upload them through the IH panel. I've never had a problem with it until yesterday except that my imagehover has never worked. I posted about it way back, I think it has something to do with the size of my images.

The strange thing is when I "view source" on the page the code is there for both the main image and additional images.
I checked that my bmz_cache and images folders have the same permissions (755) which they do. I think it has something to do with my custom template. I copied the contents from custom into my custom folder. I'm not sure I merged the popup_image_additional/tpl_main_page.php correctly.
Any ideas on what I've done wrong would be great.
You can view a page on my beta site that shows the errors.

Here's an update to my previous post. I uninstalled and reinstalled the files. The main product image has reappeared, but the additional images are still not showing, even though they are loaded in back end. If you view source on the page the code is there to show the additional images. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I suspect it has something to do with my custom template, but am not sure where to trouble shoot. Here is the link to the page.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hello,
Ok, I'm sure that this has probably been asked before and I'm sure the answer is out there somewhere in Zen land, but being that we are at over 370 pages on this topic I am hoping that someone can help me out with Image Handler2.
We have installed IM2 on our site, but I'm not entirely sure how to maximize its use? Are there some instructions/tips available that could help this Zen beginner utilze IM2 on my web site?
With many of our products we have attribute images showing the different colors, etc. of a particular product. Currently the attribute images are static thumbnails. I would like to have these attribute thumbnails clickable to enlarge for a better view. Is this possible with IM2?
We have installed Attribute Pop-Up as well and assume that IM2 can be used in conjunction with this to get the end result that I'm looking for. The problem is I don't know how to configure these plugins to do what I want.
Thank you in advance:smile:

I don't know if you have installed latest version of "Attribute popup large images" (available in download area).
I use this + IH2 + Lightbox + additional images relocated with CSS.
Yes, it is possible to install all this and get excellent results, mods do not conflict.
However, each has its own setup, instructions are available with the mods.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I recently installed IH2 to an existing store. However, the image zoom doesn't work. All images on the site were uploaded, prior to installation of IH2. Will IH2 resize images for an existing site? How can I get the zoom function to work on my thumbnails? Thanks!

This has been posted like a thousand times already, just saving tophand some work...
Configuration --> Images --> Product info width / height.
You can set both dimensions, but it is better to set only one and let IH do the resizing.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Thank you!
This is resolving the problem for now, but it will be good to have another way, becouse i want picture for preview to be 2 x bigger than product info picture.

Thanks for the suggestion. Any other ideas?

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I already have my image width/height set larger than the thumbnails, but it still doesn't zoom. I experimented with the larger size settings, with no luck. IH2 is definitely working with the pre-existing images, as the page loads much faster. Yes, the original images are large, at least 1000px, so that isn't the zoom problem.

Which image width/height?
If it doesn't zoom upon hover, there is another problem there: missing files, or another script conflicting with jscriptimagehover.js

Have you read manual? It tell's you why the hover for med image doesn't work.
Also your hover doesn't work for any image because you haven't uploaded all of the IH files. You are missing that one file that makes the hover possible.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Image Handler appears to have problems with catalogs that contain 1000+ images. It works for the first 5 pages in a specific category. Pages 6 and later display as a completely blank white page, with no content. However, when I turn off Image Handler, everything displays normally. I tried clearing image cache, both through admin and manually. The blank page problem still occurs whenever Image Handler is set to resize images.

Hi All,
A new problem here. I have been using IH2 with ZC 1.3.8a with no problems. Today I added a few new products and found that the mouse over doesn't work for them.
I have since applied a known working image to one of these products and it still didn't work.
I have no idea why this is. I have done nothing different with these listings than any other.
Thanks in Advance,
John

Ok I'm giving IH2 one more shot. Some features seems to work but I still have red x's on the images that are PNG files. What can I do to fix this? Here's an example so you see what I mean:

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I am using Zen Lightbox 4 with Image Handler 2.
I can hover over a small image in Firefox and it shows up large but in Internet Explorer nothing shows and it says there is an error on the page.
The error is this.
Page Y is null or not an object Line24
jscript_imagehover.js
This is located in my template and i use Watermelon template.
How does one fix this issue with Internet Explorer ?

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I had to turn mine off because customers were complaining about the Red X's so the link above won't work now. If some can help me please let me know. Someone suggested the problem is that some of my manufacturers have previews that are png while some are jpg and others that are gif. I may just have to kiss this idea goodbye

Is your png files 16 or 32 bits?
Also have you tried to change the png file to gif or jpegs?
Instead of saving image files from your graphic program as png, choose jpeg.
Ok, You did read the manual?
You do know that IH can change the image format for you?
(gif, jpeg, png)
You can select what format for each image size.

1) couldn't get zooms working on category product listings (but worked on New Products, Featured Products, etc.)
2) couldn't get zooms working on medium (product page) images
After pulling apart the IH code, I learned some stuff that might be helpful to other IH users, which I couldn't find in the documentation at
BreakMyZenCart. (Apologies if this has already been posted...I haven't read through all 215 pages of this thread to find out, and can't seem to find anything relevant by searching.)
Problem #1: ImageHandler handles three "sizetypes" of images: "small", "medium" and "large". It determines which sizetype it's working with in two ways:
1) for medium and large images, it searches for "_medium" and "_large" in the filenames
2) for small images, it checks to see if the width and height of the image are IDENTICAL to the "Small Image Width" and "Height" set in Admin > Configuration > Images. If the dimensions are not identical, and the image is not already identified as a medium or large image, it's labelled as "generic", and no zoom behavior can be applied.
Therefore, to enable zoom behavior on ALL images (e.g., category product listings, "new product" listings, "featured product" listings, etc.), you first need to make sure that the following options MATCH the "Small Image Width" and "Height" in Admin > Configuration > Images:
Image - Product Listing
Image - Product Listing
Image - Product New Listing
Image - Product New Listing
Image - New Products Width
Image - New Products Height
Image - Featured Products Width
Image - Featured Products Height
Image - Product All Listing Width
Image - Product All Listing Height
Problem #2: I discovered that the IH get_additional_parameters() function in includes\classes\bmz_image_handler.class.php, which adds the zoom behavior to images, checks to see if the current image sizetype allows zooming (an option set for small and medium images in Admin > Configuration > Images). However, it's limited to sizetype == 'small' on the previous line, excluding the possibility that medium images can have zooms.
I changed this sizetype != 'large', so that the only images that are excluded from having zooms are large ones.
Once that was working, and I had zooms on both small and large images, I realized it was pretty silly to zoom the "No picture available" pictures. I made some minor tweaks in the IH files to prevent zooms on these default pictures. I also tweaked the main_product_image template so that if a zoom is applied to a medium image, it does not also show the default ZenCart "larger image" caption and link to the popup (which seems redundant).
Here's my tweaks as a patch. Would love it if somebody could download and test these changes and let me know what they think!
Fabulous work.
My medium images on the product info page now zoom to full size without using Lightbox and i can still use lightbox for the additional images and it will zoom it to full size or people can zoom the additional images to medium using image handler.
Also got the subcategories zooming although it's unfortunate i need to set them at the same size as the small image but hey nothing's perfect.
Great work and extremely useful and it works in both Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox 3.
Now all we need is for someone to figure out how to enable image handler to work with the Opera web browser.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
watermark trouble.
i have zc 1.3.8a, ih2 and jqlightbox installed (among many other mods).
all of my images are in the /images folder.
i uploaded all of my images via ftp using the zc naming convention name.jpg, name_01.jpb, name_02.jpg, etc.
i have watermark_MED.png in the /images/medium folder
I have watermark_LRG.png in the /images/large folder
bmz_cache and images folder match permissions.
watermark medium images and large images set to yes
when i go to ih2 manager, it shows the product default size, medium size and large size images with the watermark.
when i check preview it shows the stock image in each file type and size with the watermark.
but... when i view the image in the cart, the watermark is not there???
what did i miss?
do i have to copy all of the images in the /images folder into the images/large folder and images/medium folder?
thanks!
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
No, if you copy the images to the medium and large folders you will end up overriding image handler functions completely for those images.

Hi, where are you generating your thumbnails from (what software)? Are the original images on your HDD pretty good quality? How are you re-sizing them before uploading them exactly?
Images this small will definitely look better if they're not sasved as .jpg compressed files. Consider using .png 24 files for such small thumbs and although the image size will increase, the quality will be so much better.
However, if the full size images on your product pages are the best quality version of these images then you will not be able to improve the 45px; thumnails any as the original quality just isn't good enough to produce a thumb this small. If this is the case then consider increasing the dimensions of your thumbnails to at least 100px; wide.
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hello,
All images are pretty good quality and resized using Photoshop. When uploaded to the site, IH2 creates the small thumbnails and the only way I can increase its quality without creating small thumbnails separately is by changing the setting of "Resize Images" to NO. The problem with this is that all thumbnails will have a file size of 12-15K bytes and that is a bit too much.
-

So your current image settings are IH small image compression quality 100. If so then this is the same quality you'd get re-sizing the images yourself in Photoshop. Compare and contrast both methods (those from IH at 45px wide against Photoshop rendered at the same width) You'll see they're aesthetically the same.
Can you send me one of your best quality, original images and I'll play with it and see what I can come up with?
- What dimensions are your original images?
- Are your original images .jpg?
P.S., I notice you have a 'larger image' text under your main product image which suggest the images click to enlarge but they don't?
-
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Dimensions of original images varies from image to image and then I use Photoshop to crop the images to 160 by 175. This is what I upload to the site. Regarding larger images, I will upload them separately. All original images are BMP.

If you are happy with a slight file size increase then try Photoshop's save for web and devices, choose PNG24 as the file type and you'll see a much crisper image only a little bigger than your .jpg compressed images.

IH has the tools to change the file format on the fly.
Saves you time from changing all your images using Photoshop.
You can as a option upload your bmp files and IH can convert them to gif, jpeg or png on the fly.
You can right now (takes about 5 secs) make it so only the small image convert to png format using the images you already uploaded.
As noted, IH can not improve poor looking images.

That just won't work right.
It's best you use only your large images in Photoshop then upload to your images folder and Image Handler 2 will do the rest and make Medium and Small images from your large sized pictures.

I think that this "yellow label" is caused by an alt tag originally included in the image.
Nothing wrong with it, it will help you with search engines and vision-impaired people.
I would just leave it there, but you can delete image, remove alt tag in original image and reupload.

I don't think you could get those two working together easily. Image Swap requires the traditional ZC folder structure to function... That is to say:
images/SUB/image.1.jpg
images/medium/SUB/image.1_MED.jpg
images/large/SUB/image.1_LRG.jpg
IH only needs one set of images in the images/SUB folder. However, if you were to upload a full set of ZC structured images then you could get them both working together. Which sort of defeats the purpose of IH?!

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi All,
Can someone help me out here...I wanted to try to adjust some of the sizes of my pictures through the image handler manager and it want let me access that area. When I click on a product (click on 'i') it takes me to the IH area but only shows the Categories in the drop down menu and states 'product is disabled'. I use to be able to access this page, not sure what happened. Any ideas?
Also, I think IH is great, but wondering is someone can give me some feedback. Since using the program, my images on my Product Listing page are small and not very clear as before and not sure how to get it back to that while at the same time keeping my site optimized. i've seen other sites doing the same as myself and there pictures are much larger, clearer and the same size and they don't seem to have an issue with web speed. Any ideas what I can do?
Thanks!!!

It always shows that.
You have to click the arrow and then pick the category and then pick an item but that area does not control the size or quality of the image.
Go to configuration and images and control the size and quality of the images from within there.
Remember though that the quality can also be determined by the quality and size of the picture you upload and you should always upload a large size and let Image Handler make the medium and small sizes for you.

Well that definitely would make sense about how I may be taking pictures. As of now, I have my camera set to take pics at 640x480px cause since I have over 1000 images on my site I was worried taking pics larger than that would slow it down. But I guess that's the point of IH  didn't consider that...
As for the first part, when I click on Manager>Category it takes me automatically to Admin (of IH)..where as before as you stated it would take me to my product images. I don't know if somehow I acquired a bug or I made a change under my Admin that somehow affected this. By the way, when I go under the IH Manager is states 'Linked Product 1005' (not sure if that has anything to do with it).
thanks for your help!

No a linked product just means it's a product in two different categories so that won't affect you at all.
You can actually uninstall and install Image Handler using the admin/ tools and image handler so if there was a bug that should fix it unless it's a bug in the actual files. It takes five seconds to uninstall and five seconds to install again.
You can just click manager which is next to admin though and that should work.
Do some tests at different resolutions with your camera and see which works best and then use that resolution.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
So awhile ago I noticed IH2 acting different. One instance would be that when uploading images, I can no longer copy and paste the file path to the LRG input area [it's the same size as MED]. Instead, clicking in the input area pops up the file browser forcing me to select a file. Minor nusaince as it takes longer having to browse and click images instead of copy and pasting the file paths.
Anyone know how to fix this?

No understand question.
You only have to upload clicking on default button and navigating to the largest image, IH does all the rest for you...

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Most of the products are zooming properly on mouseover; however, some aren't.
The images that are not zooming do not appear to be configured differently than the images that do zoom. When i view the source, I noticed that the images that are not working do not have the mouseover code like the other working images do.
Is there a way to fix this? Sorry if this issue was addressed before. I couldn't find anything searching the threads

This is what I would do.
Delete the images that are not working.
Rename them in your computer, because some images created in Mac input extraneous characters that Windows does not recognize.
Type all image names same case (upper or lower, but not mixed for the sake of clarity).
Type a meaningful base image name, no spaces.
Re-upload with IH.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hello guys,
I've just installed Image Handler, things worked out fine, but the fancy zooming effect is not working on any browser.
After skimming thru this thread i've updated the jscript_imageover.js file, but it's still not working
Am I missing anything?
Thanks in advance!!

The alt tag is an HTML tag, it's not in the image itself.
I thought about this post, it looks more like it's displaying a title tag that an alt tag.
The title for the image is probably being input by a program, not IH, it doesn't behave like that.
For more info on this, I will defer to tophand.

Thanks, but many of the images are already named with the conventions you listed. I've tried deleting, renaming, and uploading the images again, and clearing the cache afterwords. I've found one other user in this thread who had a similar problem. They deleted the medium and large suffixed images from their files.
That didn't work for me either.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I've got a strange IH2 issue in Safari.
The Cross sell listings zoom to the top of the page on mouseover, instead of on top of the image.

Anyone have any idea why?

There is an ongoing confusion with this suffix thing.
IH does not need or use any suffix, it uses its own "convention".
You just upload the largest image using the default button and IH does the rest; that's the whole point, it is there to simplify things.
Different is the case if you are NOT using IH, then, yes, you have to use the Zen Cart naming convention.
Please remove all suffixes from your images and upload them with IH.
Renaming them is only necessary in order to clean them from extraneous characters in the name.
You can name them anything you want, IH will rename them according to the base image name.

More on this: this label you see popping is nothing more than the article's name or title.
That is the way IH is supposed to work; if you don't like it, you need to hack the code, but, again, that thing is there to help you.

I think you are uploading smaller images the what you set here.
Admin-->Config-->Images-->Small Images
Looks like you have 120px height set and the images that are not hovering are 115px or less in height.
IH will ignore those images as IH will not enlarge images.
Try setting the height at 110 or less and see what happens.

Ummm I'm actually not quite certain. ALL our images are in folder store/images/product_images/ and are like productimage.jpg with additional images like this productimage_1.jpg productimage_2.jpg and so on.. no different sized images are used in our store..

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
Hi there,
this is my first post and I hope you can help me with my issue.
I've installed ZenCart 1.3.8a (ZJ_Black template) and IH2 (the latest versione). I got this problem: when I upload and additional picture, the script do it assigning CHMOD 600 to the new file. Due to this, the picture isn't available to normal user (catalog side) when they try to enlarge it.
If I go modifying new uploaded picture to CHMOD 775 (or 777), the enlarged picture become available.
Can you help me with this? Any suggestion to be able to upload the additional picture with standard CHMOD?
I've already changed bmz_cache to match images directory (both 777).
Hope you can help.
Regards.

Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I haven't been able to find a reference to this problem in any posts. IH2 is working fine, but I can't use the IH manager to upload images. When I browse my images and upload one, I get a blank page with the address http://www.mysite.com/catalog/admin/...if&action=save showing in the address bar.
Images zoom perfectly on the pages. I'm trying to upload a small JPG, does the reference to a GIF in the address have anything to do with it?
Thanks for the help.

That's good to know. Gotta have that IE compatibility! I'm going to have to get VMWARE's fusion and install XP, so I can check myself.
Should be site wide. It definitely is for me. Is it not for you? I don't get why Safari would be so different.
