Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
My business partner and I have put in USD150 and have seen the % to complete go to 75%+ on the following fundable url.
https://www.fundable.org/groupactions/zencart-seo-urls
Bring on the donations. We are almost there.
I now see that there has been a seo url rewrite zencart 1.35 upgrade, but I am keen for the new version.
Can we get the rewrite starting now???

You have a PHP error. Check the error logs to see what it is or temporarily turn display_errors on to see the error message.

The new version was started quite some time ago. I was on the final lap but ran out of gas. :P

80%. Just need 4 or 2 or 1 generous people/person. 17 days left to go. I think we can do it. I've been very impressed with the response so far. You all will not be disappointed ;-)

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
For some reason i'm getting an error with google checkout :
..they "cannot read google_checkout.php.html" is there a way to remove the file from being rewritten (no .html) ?
it should always stay google_checkout.php

Well I love the contribution, you got my support. Thanks for the help Voltage, and thanks for the great work Dreamscape.

Hi Dreamscape,
I'd like to confirm that update on 9/4/2006
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=231
is not really completely working yet.
That's why we are contributing at
http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=231
to make it really into the production mode.
Right?
Thanks.
$25=$0.83/day if you run your seo zen cart web site for 30 days
or
=$0.07/day if you run your good working seo zen cart web site for 365 days
or
= ... if you run your really good working seo zen cart web site for more than 1 year
:bangin:
Come on zenners, contribute and get this ulitmate seo tool working...

I saw that it said 99% funded and figured it would only take $5, so I happily contributed $25 to push it over the top.
The fundable page did not reflect it going over the top and the Pay Pal was confusing, so I figured I had not actually contributed and ran through the hoop twice more--Now it says I've pledged $75 and the funding is still not over 99%.
I'm happy to pledge $25 for this nifty contribution, but don't want the other two accidental pledges to count.
How do I retract?
And who will figure out how to add the final 1% of funding?

If I have got it right...
At 80%, we needed $100 extra. If you have provided $75, then we need $25 more. So don't retract your $, I put in $150 with a partner. Its worth it to see this part happening.

No it says 76-99%. Fundable shows progress to contributors in 4 stages. Please see the FAQ entry: https://www.fundable.org/faq#fourstages
I have delete your all but your first pledge as requested.

As it stands I retracted my last two, simply because the process was not clear and I ended up not getting the result I intended.
But the need is clear. We need good SEO URL's and we need good ZenCart Modules.
I'll match the next $25 or $50 pledge with another $25 of my own. The former would push us within $25 of getting this thing funded, the latter would put us over the top.
There has to be one or two ZenCart Webmasters out there who recognize the need to have quality SEO URLS...

Secondly, there is nothing seriously wrong with the current version. It works, but it is difficult for 3rd parties to extend & modify. For example if you want to exclude certain pages or add support for others, there is not a clear path to follow to do this, and you're forced to hack up the mod's core files to do so.
The purpose of developing the next version is to provide an improved and extensible version, as well as to clean up the code and clean up some minor bugs that still linger.
I don't know what you mean by "to make it really into the production mode." I'm sorry, your English is fairly decent, but I'm just not sure what you're trying to say here.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
Chemo, just installed your 2.103 version successfully.
However, when there is only one product in a category, it gives a 200 header for the category, then redirects to the single product. I have not fully worked my way through your code. How can I turn off that redirect so that the category url still shows when there is just the one product in that category.
Thanks

Redirecting to the product page when there is one product in a category is not a function of this module. It is a function of Zen Cart; i.e, it is built into Zen Cart. I'm sure there is a setting to alter this behavior somewhere, but I don't know where it is without looking through the settings. You may want to look through them yourself to try to locate it or ask in a more appropriate place such as general support or something.
-
Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
Thanks, and sorry Joshua (?). Have I got it right this time?
That is why I could not find the single product redirect in your code. Now to look and ask elsewhere.

From what I understand their is a known bug whereby customers will not be able to login after creating an account. Is their any resolution to this issue?

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
I had this problem and I thought it had to do with this module. I turned off recreate sessions and it fixed it. Blessisacola had the same problem. But its possible that we are two people who use this mod and had the same problem, and erroneously supposed it was caused by this mod. I think its still somewhat up in the air.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
What is this suppose to actually do for your site. I have had this install for about a month now and i see not difference in my site rating. The only thing i see this doing is change the zend extion into words. Other than that it to me it has not improved any thing... so is it better to have word urls or just stay with the normal zen url?

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
Words in the url's are only one part of SEO. You have to get all the other parts right in order to do well on the search engines. I personally am a master at SEO for vBulletin, and am working my way through issues specific for zencart.
Definition of SEO
What I call the Three Secret Steps
- Search phrase selection
- header tags
- content
Pick the search phrases that you stand a chance at ranking for and that are receiving traffic
Get the title and meta description right
Get an h1 and intro paragraph including the search phrases for each page.
See my site for more details on Zencart SEO work in progress

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
I agree 100%. There is no silver bullet with SEO. Just many small pieces of the puzzle . . . . But keywords in the url ARE used by many, including the big sites, see ebay for example

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
Hi Squashrick
Regarding the post >> http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showth...ssl#post246334
Im having a problem with Ultimate SEO URLs when I try to go into a secure pages. And yes, Im using shared ssl.
You've mentioned in the post "So you need to add the line: RewriteBase /~mywebsite/shop/ to the .htaccess file."
Can you please explain a little bit more how to do this code line. I would really appreciate your help. At the moment I have to turn off the SEO url as it doesn't work for SSL pages.

Can't get mod to work...
Hello,
I have installed the mod correctly, I have double checked. The home page displays and when I hover over any links the mod appears to be working with product or category name .html as the links. When I click on any of the links I get a file not found error and when I try to access /admin all I get is a blank white screen. Any suggestions??
thank you,
adam

Re: Can't get mod to work...
How about the htaccess file? Did you modify the rewrite base appropriately?

Anyways though, my problem is this. After downloading Version 2.100 released and following the instructions at
http://www.dream-scape.com/pub/zenca...s/install.html, i keep getting the following when opening my site: 1054 Unknown column 'c.parent_id' in 'on clause'. It does this when i upload the updated application_top.php and the html_ouput.php files. If i change these back to the original files, my site reappears with the dynamic links. If anyone can help me with this issue, it would be greatly apprectiated. If you need more info, will be glad to post it.
I had the same problem. I found a workaround by configuring the SEO URLs in the admin page: Configuration / SEO URLs:
Add category parent to beginning of URLs -> set to false.
It seems like a bug, though.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
I am getting this error:
Warning: main(includes/reset_seo_cache.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /homepages/7/d165971201/htdocs/store/admin/product.php on line 18
Warning: main() [function.include]: Failed opening 'includes/reset_seo_cache.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /homepages/7/d165971201/htdocs/store/admin/product.php on line 18
The error appears sometimes at the top of a page. (when viewing products attributes, I click preview, then click back; the error is at the top)
Sometimes The error IS the page. (when adding a new product, I click preview, then Update; The error is then page that gets displayed.)
The odd thing is, that when I check, whatever I was doing has actually worked. e.g. products are added fine. But this error is VERY annoying, and I would love to find out what is causing it.
I am using Zencart 1.3.6

The error message is pretty straightforward in what the problem is. Here let me highlight the important parts incase you're having trouble reading what it says:
Quote:
Warning: main(includes/reset_seo_cache.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /homepages/7/d165971201/htdocs/store/admin/product.php on line 18

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
I'm afraid I'm not much with PHP. Does this mean that product.php references reset_seo_cache.php, but the file does not exist? What about
Quote:
(include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php')
Should I try reinstalling the SEO mod?
or is this a permissions issue?
(I'm probably showing my blatant misunderstanding of the issue with these questions):lamo:

Yes that is exactly what it means. So the problem is that the file does not exist, and it obviously is an SEO file it is looking for, so the solution then must be to .... (I know you can figure it out)

Probably not. If there were permission problems with the file in question, it is likely that the error would be "Permission denied" instead of "No such file or directory".

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
well, here's an interesting thread that you might want to check out.
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50033
i've been getting a 403 error when trying to get my page analyzed at http://www.websiteoptimization.com/
I wasn't sure what it was but then there was a suggestion that it might be seo urls because one poster replied that he had no problem but he doesn't use seo urls.
just wanted to let you know that this issue was there
i'm not even sure what kind of impact it has on anything but maybe we could track down the cause and research it a little for future optimization...?
-
Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
i use the SEO url's and don't have a problem with the analyzer.. see other thread for my suggestions :)
-
Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
Ok. When the urls are enabled, the checkout process will loop you back to step 2 with no order being confirmed or placed.
When the mod is disabled, the checkout works properly...
Any ideas?
-
Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
using 1.3.6? there are 2 files that need to be updated in order for it to be used with 1.3.6.. i believe one is admin/categories.php and the other is includes/functions/html_output.php
-
Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
Haven't done the upgrade yet...so 1.3.5
-
Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
OK. Reset your SEO cache in the admin panel (admin > configuration > seo urls). I had a similar problem in IE where if i clicked a category.. it would just "refresh".. and after clearing the cache it works fine
-
Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
already tried that. I've disabled the automatic redirects and it works. But the urls are not seo friendly. If I enable the automatic redirects, the urls are seo friendly, but the checkout loops back to step 2.
I'm guessing some variables are passed in the aim module and with the automatic redirects, these variables aren't getting passed.

hmm.. i updated both of those files like you said. and i'm finding that SEO still prevents my site from going secure when its supposed to. and also, with Newsletter subscribe. SEO prevents you from being able to process the email address.
in other words, when turned off, both work fine.
am i missing something else too?

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
Wow... it looks like some people got it running for 1.3.6. I got stuck pretty much at the beginning where the installation doc says I need to modify includes/application_top.php around line 355. This file doesn't have that many lines in 1.3.6. Am I halucinating here?

I am having the same problem. The url for the step 2 is http://www.doodlebuckets.com/store/c...yment_error=cc
Notice the word "error" in the url. But there is no message telling what the error is. Turning off SEO fixes it, and I've upgraded to 1.3.6 b/c, with 1.3.5, my cart was getting stuck on Page 1! Now that I have that fixed, I am wondering what might be the issue now.
Thanks for hammering this out :)

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
I feel like I'll be blind from reading this thread before I'm done. I am a business operater not a unix/linux expert. I do not write php. I began with Zen Cart 2 years ago. I can tell all of you that SEO URLs improve search position. You have to wait a long time to build enough traffic. I have several products that are in the top 10 on google. My sites that are not SEO often do not even have their products indexed. So lets stop the techie vs business debates and solve this problem. I avoid problems by trying to avoid upgrades since stability is the key to making money. Do not change things for your customers. I was perfectly happy with 1.2.4 on 2 of my sites and 1.2.7 on another. But, my host is forcing all Zen people to upgrade. (They value techinical issues over my making money too) I managed to get one site to 1.3.5 (minus SEO) before 1.3.6 came out and put me back to zero. People who use CMS do it so they can run their busniess, not spend their time on software.
If I lose SEO, I lose 2 years of position building. If I can not turn on the HTTPS, my host will close my site. So, with all this brain power, does anyone have an answer that will work and can be understood by a person who runs a business not a data center?

I feel for you. I have been avoiding upgrading from 1.3.5 to 1.3.6 knowing that one day I would have to bite the bullet and charge forward. I too wish that it was easier keep up with the upgrades and changes that happen all the time.
BUT...Your request for support was rude and it seems that you are ungrateful for the service this contributor has given you.
First of all there are security issues that have to be addressed with each and every upgrade.
Second the world doesn't stop for zen cart. Software has to be upgraded in order to make it compatible with operating systems, server environments, browsers, merchant card processing systems, shipping interfaces, search engine processes, etc etc etc.
Third this is a free module for a free cart. It sounds like you are forgetting that contributions take time and sweat to build. Then they have to be tested and upgraded with each and every new release of zen cart. They also have to live up to the standard of compatibility with software other than zen cart; ie, google's constantly changing environment. If a contribution is popular then supporting it is a consistent concern and most contributors have real jobs where they need to make real money to support their real families.
Fourth if you just want to run the business. Do that. Hire someone to update your carts. If you don't have the money to do that then welcome to the club. that's why we're here. If you don't have the time to invest in supporting your store well then maybe you should find another line of work.
The contributor is working on overhauling this module but I can tell you that it is not going to be built to support all versions of zen cart. And it is not going to be the be-all end-all of upgrades or modifications. It too will require support and revision just like all the other software in the world.
Here's what I suggest...especially when leaving messages on this forum...
be patient, be polite, be grateful, be generous and be industrious.
good luck to you

YES!

This project sought a total of: $500
with a minimum contribution of
$25.00 per person
$575.00 collected
Time Finished:

I'm now installing 1.3.6.
Will install all the other modules I have in my site but hold of on SEO URL for the results of this development effort.
Dreamscape, is it fair to assume that the result will be fully 1.3.6 compatible?

Thanks Dreamscape - I just added another $25 to the kitty. Get yourself a little somethin' extra when the port is done. Perhaps a cold one, to celebrate a job well done!

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
okay so I just upgraded to zc 1.3.6 and I am having the ssl problems as well.
was there any solution to that at all? a workaround? anything until dreamscape gets this mod working for 1.3.6?
Looks like I'll have to do a backup and then restore my previous backup and then once the mod is complete i'll do a restore of the last backup and then...
oh man it's gonna be a long week.

whoa! I think I figured it out. I actually went back to dreamscape's site and noticed that one of the files that was changed in 1.3.6 was the html_output.php file in /includes/functions/ folder.
I did the required code changes suggested on dreamscape's installation page for the seo urls and now i get ssl pages. I didn't have to do any other changes.
I'm not sure if this was something that was already suggested or not but it worked for me.

I'm not even sure how you were able to add money to the fund when he fundraiser had already been over. It shouldn't have allowed you to contribute money since the project had already been closed and the funds had already been dispersed.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
Hey Dreamscape,
I thought the funding was closed and you re-opened for more. So I did my lovely 25 bucks again. (ou2k & gocareer are mine). Anyway, you got $600 now.
http://www.fundable.org/groupactions/zencart-seo-urls
Can you please make the other modules (news, dhl) update in version 3.0 as well?
All the zenners will really appreciate your effort!

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
People please, the funding has been closed since November 6th. That was the deadline. I have no clue how you are being able to pledge more to the fund, but it will do no good since it is over, all money has been collected, and your pledge won't be processed.
If you want to donate to the project, just send it to me directly. The group fundraiser is closed -- how you were even able to pledge on a closed action I have no clue, maybe a bug in fundable, but it won't count for anything. I repeat, the group fundraiser is closed.
Thank you everyone who pledged :D

That's some HTML code that fundraiser gives you if you open a group action to place on your site. I haven't had time to remove it (actually forgot about until the other day), because I didn't even think that fundable would still collect pledges from it after the fact. It is just some kind of bug in fundable's system, so using it won't do anything.

Any news or status of the new version upgrade? :lamo:

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
Folks, please be patient and give Dreamscape the space to actual get some time to work on this instead of constant asking for updates. I am sure Dreamscape will be just as eager to let us know when there's an update worth passing along. The less time he spends answering update questions, the sooner we will get the mod :)
Perhaps there should be another fundable (especially since people are contribution after it closed) to support upgrades to DHL, Multi-zone shipping and Dreamscape's other mods. :)
-
Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
When somebody volunteers to create / update a mod for free, I completely agree. BUT in this case, many have contributed $ and as a customer, I believe they / we have a right to at the very least ask if there is an ETA for the mod, or at least an update.

You're absolutely right many of us have contributed and that's exactly it...contributed (it's a free will offering). Completely different than a purchase/commercial transaction. Yes! we contributed to bring the project to completion but it's not the same thing as hiring Josh to do the work.
Just like our contribution to the Zen Cart team doesn't give us any more rights to ask for v1.4, v1.5, etc. I don't think our contribution to Josh is any different than any other free willing offering (we call contribution around here). It's a free will donation.

Software ETA's ultimately do more harm than good. If there is one thing that you can count on, it is that ETA's always slip when vendors give them out. That is why some software vendors, myself included, don't give out ETAs. It just causes everyone grief when they are inevitably disappointed that the ETA has slipped yet again.
I can however give a brief roadmap of how I plan for the release to go down:
- The first release will be a public beta. Everyone interested can and should try it out on a test install of Zen Cart.
- Depending on the outcome of the public beta, then a 2nd beta may be called for.
- And from there it will be a short step to releasing a stable production worthy version
-
Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
I understand your point on ETA's and its well taken. Maybe just periodic progress updates would be good enough . . .

I disagree 100% with this statement. Nearly everyone who "contributed" did with the intention of receiving something in return for their money. It was intended to be a commercial transaction. We weren't contributing money as a thank you for Dreamscapes hard work. We spent the funds that he stated it would take in order to finish the project. We give him 'X' and he'll give us 'Y'. This is COMPLETELY different than money that is contributed to zencart. This money is donated to encourage ongoing development but without a specific object in return.
Now you personally may not have seen it from this point of view, but I would dare to say that the majority of us saw this as a form of a business transaction.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
You and all your rights! So what if Dreamscape gives and ETA of 12/1 and then he delivers 3/1/07. Are you happier that you have an ETA that is missed? All I was trying to say is not about right or not right is the fact that some of us know Josh and the contribution he's made to this forum in the past. The post some of you were making almost seem like people are questioning whether he is working on this thing or not.
My point is whoever knows Dreamscape on this forum would never question whether he will deliver or not. Yes, people contributed (myself included) in expectation that we will get something back but I am willing to be patient to see what develops.
All the barrage of request of updates in less than 1-2 weeks of the fund closing is a bit unrealistic.
I am not asking for anyone to agree with me just expressing my view which I assume is okay. It's in your perogative to disagree with me 100% and that's perfectly fine!
Happy Thanksgiving!!!
-
Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
Voltage, I know you contributed towards the project but does someone who didn't contribute have any rights as well to ask for when the project will be delivered?
-
Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
I agree with you. I apologize to Dreamscape if my comments were at all offensize. I'll be patient.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
to be honest - its actually more annoying to login and get you guys bickering about it all!!
Dreamscape - I don't know you from the forums, but progress reports are always welcome :) and is generally a good thing - I am happy with no ETA although I have to say that I am not happy waiting 6 months or a year for something, but if you are talking within a few months time frame (? no idea) then I am happy sitting back and letting you get on with it.
As I don't know you and no one really asked and you haven't really said its still a tad up in the air :D

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
:D Let's move on... Every user of Zencart is grateful for the input of all the experts - whether they earn a living from their work or wish to remain philanthropic. At the end of the day, we (people that run e-shops using zencart) are eternally grateful to ALL of you and (where possible), will make donations / contributions for the time and intellectual capital that has gone into such an amazing product.
All of us know (or SHOULD know), that OpenSource cannot guarantee specific performance and we use the product entirely at our own risk. If people are not prepared to accept this fundamental condition of use, then they should avoid OpenSource and buy commercial software.
The sheer power and flexibility of Zencart makes it (for me at least) worth the wait for updates to mods, tweaking of core code and the release of new versions. It would be appropriate for all users of this product to recognise that the vast majority of people who devote time to dev work on Zencart, do so in their spare time, sometimes at the expense of other things they'd like to be doing (such as spending time with family), so let's all support their efforts and be glad that they're around to make their contributions.
At the same time, there is nothing wrong with experts selling their time and expertise - as long as it's an agreed transaction between two parties. There have been occasions when I desperately needed expert help, and I was quite happy to pay for it.
Now: my question... I loaded up Ultimate SEO and got it working in minutes, without any hitches. I have noticed, however, that it seems not to like to work with the EZpages CHAPTERS function. Without the mod, the PREVIOUS / NEXT buttons on a chapterised section perform as they should. However, after loading Ultimate SEO, these buttons are a little confused.
This is such a minor issue, so I don't consider it a problem. Even the most stupid customers on our shop will see that there are hyperlinks to other pages in the chapter in the accompanying boxed menu.
-
Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
There is a solution to the EZpages problem you described. I do not have time to flip to the pages right now but I thought I'd let you know if you have the time the solution is on one of the pages. Alternatively you can do a few search with EZPages as the keyword and perhaps you can limit your search to just this thread.

Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
I know Dreamscape is working on a new release, but I have SEO URLs working on 1.3.5, perfectly; however I use Google's Site Map, and I'm wondering if anyone has been able to get the site map to convert the URLs from the dynamic to the new output of the SEO Friendly URLs? I've read through this entire thread and I saw one other person had the same issue, but I did not see the resolution... I'm about blind from re-reading - so If I missed it could someone point it out to me?
Thanks
-
Re: Chemo's Ultimate URL's
I am getting
Fatal error: Call to undefined function gzdeflate() in /....
in my 1.3.5 zen installation. I saw another thread mentioning this but didn't understand how they fixed it. I used the latest install info (skipped direction #2, added the predone files, etc.) Can someone help?
Thanks!

We contributed because we believed the funding could speed up the rest 15-20%. We are pretty sure dreamscape no need to complete that 10-15 dedicated hours in over months.

I suspect that it would require a lot of re-coding, and you'd have to make sure that every product had a unique name. The possibilities for error are vast.
I think the advantages in having a direct access to products by code are very strong, so even if it were possible, I'm not sure I'd advise just showing names in URLs.
How could you stop store owners accidentally giving two products the same name?

The fix you provided works brilliant to make this contribution compatible with EZPages whether the Mod is enabled or disabled.
Now I need to test the credit card issue that was reported as well as why the music link is showing something like thehunter.mp3.html which of course doesn't play. I personally do not use the media clip option from the admin but I am suspecting it will do the same thing if I upload media clip via product description.
Hi. I downloaded the Utimate SEO mod in the downloads section a couple days back. It works and rewrites the URL for all the categories and products. However, my pages built using EZPages are showing as http://domain.com/page.html?chapter=0&id=1 unlike the products where the product name is in the URL. I want the EZPages titles to reflect in the URL instead of page.html?chapter=0&id=1. How do I do this? Instead of http://domain.com/page.html?chapter=0&id=1 I would like it to show http://domain.com/about-us.html or http://domain.com/where-to-buy.html or something like that in order for it to be SEO friendly:)
Thanks

I installed the Chemo's Ultimate URL's. Everything works fine except that I could no longer access the admin page after installing, it gives a Page Not Found page instead. Any one else experiencing this? Help needed please. Thanks!

In the downloads section is the "About Us" contribution - you can use that and duplicate it to fit the pages you need (about_us.php, where_to_buy.php) and those would show up as the 2 examples you listed above

There appears to be a compatibility issue between the Ultimate URL's SEO module and the Paypal module which results in orders getting stuck in limbo.
