If your product is sold as a 50pak then 1=50 there is no need for attributes are there?
What I want to do is have a drop down box or radio button for a product, the product is sold as a 50 pack or a 100 pack with a price for each one, so on the dropdown box choice one says -pack of 50 £10-, choice 2 says -pack of 100 £20-.
hope this explains better
is there a readme to do this?
Andy
Since the Option Values are the exact size of the order then just add the price normally.
Option Name: Size Radio Button
Option Values:
50 pak sort order 10 price 5 default
100 pak sort order 20 price 10
etc.
You do not need to use the Attribute Discount Quantity as you have already qualified the quantity and price on the Option Value ...
Marked as Priced by Attribute will make the price display as 5.00 as this is the lowest price.
My head is spinning with attribution, so much so that I've suffered a brainfart and forgotten everything SO, stupid newbie question:
If I have the following naming scheme for products in the current supplier database, eg:

AW001-BO Candles, 8" - Bordeaux
AW001-DG Candles, 8" - Dark Green
AW101-IV Candles, 10" - Ivory
AW101-L Candles, 10" - Lilac
AW101-NB Candles, 10" - Navy Blue
See how that naming scheme goes? Is there any way to fit this "changed suffix" scheme in, or am I better having a seperate product for each colour, for the time being? (Prices are same)
I would probably make 2 products 8" and 10" candles ...
Then set the colors as attributes ...
Or, you can make 2 Option Names: Size and Color
This depends on what works best for you ... I'd use 2 products distinguished by size
Hi,
How do I permanently turn off both "mixed off" and "mixed on" on the product listing page? They appear underneath the "add to cart" button.
Right now the only way to get around that is set yes/no for Product Qty Min/Unit Mix: under Categories/Product in Admin.
Thanks
Eddie
If you are using Min/Max/Unit the Mixed ON or OFF is an indicator that you can mix together or not mix together the attributes to make up the Min/Max/Unit
Linda,
Thanks. I still can't quite figure out under what condition mixed off and mixed on will show up again. The good news is that we don't have to display a lot of products at this point in time.
Eddie
If you use anything except the defaults for Min/Max/Units then you will see the setting for Mixed
Otherwise when using the defaults the Mixed On/Off does not show ...
I'm trying to make sense of all of this info, but I find that im even more confused.
Okay, I have a product (seminar registration) which is normally $179.
This item is on sale for $159 if purchased before Jan 1st, 2006.
I am set up, and everything is fine so far.
Now.... I am trying to allow customers to get 3 free registrations if they buy 3.
How do I set this up? -Also, does ZenCart utilize the temporary sales price into this equation?
On a products page, I have attributes, "Chain", "Stone" and "Details" for a piece of jewelry. It shows up in the order of Chain, Details, Stone. Is there anyway to organize the option names instead of alphabetically? I looked on the attributes controller page but couldn't see anything to specify the order of the option names.
EDIT: I figured it out. You can sort them per the Option Names page! DUH! Feel free to delete this reply. :P
If it is the same Product, you can use the Quantity Price Discount on the Product Price Manager ...Quote:

Yes sorting works per Option Name and per Option Value within the Option Name ...Quote:

Hi!
First thank you for all of the great help in this forum. I have learned a lot by reading this thread and have got my clients shopping cart almost ready. They have one product that I cannot figure out how to set up ... well I can think of a way of doing it but it's not the most intuitive way for the customer to order such a product.
My client sells rugs and one of the product categories is Runners. The runners come in different widths and I have set up a separate category for each width with the styles in which the runners come listed as products in each of the width categories. The customer visiting the site then needs to let us know the length they require and pricing is a fixed dollar amount per foot.
Is there a way to set up Zen Cart to where the customer can enter in the length they need and it calculates the cost? The only way I can think to do it right now is enter an individual amount for each possible length but I don't like the idea of a drop down menu that long or that many radio buttons.
Many thanks in advance!
What if you set up the Products per Runner with the price by the foot?
Then they pick the Runner they need and order 6.5 to get 6' 6" of that runner?
I'm probably being really stupid here ... but I'm not understanding your suggestion :(Quote:

Ideally what I'd like to be able to do is have the customer enter a whole number which is the length in feet they would like and the shopping cart calculates the cost by multiplying that number by the price per foot. As far as I can tell there is no way to do that with Zen Cart.
:(
If you have the settings in the Stock for:
Allow how many decimals on Quantity
set to 2
If products_price is 4.25
And the customer orders 6.5 feet ...
$4.25 x 6.5 = $27.63
Would this work for you?
So let me make sure I'm understanding. For your example I set the price to $4.25 and then the customer would enter the 6.5 in the quantity box? I never thought of doing it that way :D I actually don't need the decimals because the runners are sold in whole feet.Quote:

My only concern is going to be if the customer wants more than one ... and for all the other products on the site if you change the quantity in the shopping cart it changes how many you are ordering but this one case will be different changing the length of the runner. I can see an opening for customer confusion ;)
I'll give it a go ...
Thanks so much for you help!
Hi,
I'm struggling with the same problem w/picture frames sold by the inch, and digital printing sold by the square inch. I've been playing with the 'price per letter' option: I tried using the letter 'x' for each inch - works. That means that the function to add 'price per something' is already there; if i could only modify the 'something'... ^_^
If i can determine where all the 'price per word/letter' stuff is, i'm pretty sure that i can copy and modify it to use an arbitrary (per attribute?) unit to assign a 'per unit' price.
I see two obvious references:
admin/includes/functions/functions_prices.php:1051
includes/functions/functions_prices.php:1098
I plan on adding a new table w/product id, attribute id, unit , price per unit - or maybe just another couple of columns on the 'trib table.
If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. (mainly just locations of functions for the price-per-letter stuff).
Thanks,
Chris
It's on the list of things to do ... dimensional attributes ... but not today's list ... B)
If you find a solution do let us know ...
Wow, this is a great thread. I went from being totally confused about attributes to actually thinking I know how to use them...
My questions are:
1. As shown in the link below, I am trying to add options to products. All the options are optional. The customer buys a chair and has the option to purchase cushions for the chair and gets to choose the cushion color. Easy. BUT, using the dropdown for the option, makes the option mandatory and not optional. So, I change to radio, but I get a long list... And since there are other optional options with color choices, is there any way to make this a little easier to display? Can the customer have the option to add cushions and select the color from a dropdown?
My Webpage
(the layout is screwed, I know, got to see the options first :P )
2. Somewhere in the last 40 pages I read about changing the option name comment field length.
What I would like to do is put a link to the product page for each option listed. Do I change this value in the db and if so where? Because right now the whole link doesn't fit somewhere and screws up the whole layout.
AND, can I put the option comment field underneath the option name instead of above?
Thanks,
Tina
If you have a list of Optional as Radio Buttons ... set the first one as:
Option Value: Option or Add-ons or something appropriate and as the default ...
Hi Linda, thank you for your quick response.
I don't get it.
Some options are checkboxes and others are radio. The radio options a choose color of the option. The color is not the option for the product. It's the option for the option... and the option is optional. :)
Scenario:
Buy chair and table set
Want a cushion with that chair?
Yes, ok, well choose the cushion color. (radio of colors)
How 'bout an umbrella for that table? (checkbox)
Currently if I use a dropdown for the option the option is added to the cart regardless. It's not a choice.
How do I implement what you are trying to communicate to me?
Sorry
You have:
Add:Code:Cushions:
Blue (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
Green (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
Red (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
White (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
And set the default to noneCode:Cushions:
None
Blue (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
Green (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
Red (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
White (+$50.00) (+2 lbs)
OK, got that. Thanks. I think I will forego the other part of my question due to lack of motivation... :)
Thanks for your help. Really. You are magnificent!
Well...
I've a product that has one addon product but the addon comes in 3 different shape, 8 Designs, 16 colors, and 2 lines of personalized text.
Is this possible? I would like a check box for the addon and when the box is checked it make the shape, designs, colors... etc available.
Thanks.
Currently, Zen Cart does not support dependant attributes ...
You could setup the options as attributes, but the testing for when one group of Option Values is selected in relationship to another is not built in at this time ...
Hello, I am very new to using Zen-Cart and have tried to read up through some of the forums... this has answered several questions but I still have something that I can't figure out.
Here's the lay out:
I want to sell photography online. I would like to have different "albums" or categories in which different products (photos) would be displayed. For each photo, I would like to offer several buying options from prints of different sizes to different products all listed under the specific photo.
For example:
category: Nature
product: Duck
items offered: 5x7 glossy
5x7 matte
mouse pad
puzzle
I would like each product to display unique price and be able to select more than 1 and tell how many per item...
is this possible without setting a "new product" for each item offered?
Also I would like to know why it tells me I don't have permissions to write an image to a file or to edit a file through the HTMLarea editor...
Thanks
Christina
christina AT naturalimagesonline DOT com
You did say you didn't want to create a new product for each item that one particular photo embellishes... and I'm no expert... Semi-new to Zen Cart myself, so (take this with a grain of salt), why not make each item an Option of the Photo itself? Then, set dropdown values for these options:
Duck Photo is the Product.
Option Name 1 is Mousepad
Option Values for Mousepad are
Select From... (display only)
1 Pad
2 Pads
3 Pads
4 Pads etc.
Then, set the Price attribute with a weight attribute.
Ok I'll try that, didn't think of it that way at all... that might just work, BUT... maybe I don't understand it enough... how do you set different option values to each option? I can set the SAME value as the option... but when I try to set a different name it tells me it's incorrect or something...
EDIT** I think I have figured it out... I was looking at it from a totally different view before... thanks
ok... nevermind... still having a problem! I have figured out what you were saying with the drop down boxes... but if I only choose 1 item to add to the cart, it still lists all items offered in the cart... with option to change amount (of whole order only) in cart.
here's the page if you need to take a peek....
http://naturalimagesonline.com/index.php?m...1&products_id=2
and also, I would like to be able to add or subtract amount chosen... in the cart... per item, not per total package chosen per picture...
if this is even possible...
thanks in advance
Are they getting a 5x7 and a Mouse Pad?
Or are they getting a 5x7 or a Mouse Pad?
Are both optional?
Are both required choices?
Must one or the other be selected?
Hi,
Hope this is in the right place.
I am looking for a way to display the product options in a table which can be styled with alternating row background colours.
Is there any way to cause the options table to draw each product and its options into table rows like this:
At first look it would seem that I need to edit both the modules>pages>product_info>main_template_vars_attributes.php and tpl_product_info_display.phpCode:<table id="mytable" cellspacing="0" >
<caption>Options </caption>
<tr>
<th>Ref</th>
<th>Width</th>
<th>Price</th>
</tr>
<tr>
<th class="oddrow" width="127">CRC01-1000</th>
<td width="151"> 1000mm </td>
<td width="202"> <b>£469.00</b> </td>
<td width="202"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox1" value="checkbox"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<th class="evenrow" width="127">CRC01-1200</th>
<td class="alt" width="151" > 1200mm </td>
<td class="alt" width="202"> <b>£509.00</b></td>
<td width="202"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox2" value="checkbox"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<th class="oddrow" width="127">CRC01-1500</th>
<td width="151" > 1500mm </td>
<td width="202"> <b>£529.00</b></td>
<td width="202"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox3" value="checkbox"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<th class="evenrow" width="127">CRC01-2400</th>
<td class="alt" width="151" > 2400mm </td>
<td class="alt" width="202"> <b>£569.00</b></td>
<td width="202"><input type="checkbox" name="checkbox4" value="checkbox"></td>
</tr>
</table>
Is there an easy way to achieve this that I have overlooked?
Thanks.
NaturalImagesOnline,
Unless your Options are actually Products (in which case, they would not be options), I do not think you can modify the QTY of the Option or modify the VALUE of the Option once added to the Cart unless you delete the Product then continue shopping.
It is my understanding that the quantity box applies to the Product.
Your Product can be "Duck Image" or "Duck Image Package." Establish a base price for the image -OR - the package. You might make the Product the image, then create the Package as an Option to the Product as well as creating additional options that allow your shopper to purchase additional items. Possible Product Attributes include:
Option 1 Name: Mousepad.
Dropdown
Values for Mousepad:
Select your quantity... (display only)
1 pad +$19.95
2 pads +$34.95
3 pads +$44.95
4 pads + $40.95
No thank you
Option 2 Name: Mug
Dropdown
Values for Mug:
Select your quantity... (display only)
1 mug
2 mugs
3 mugs
4 mugs
No thank you
Option 3 Name: Key Tag
Dropdown
Select your quantity... (display only)
1 key tag
2 key tags
3 key tags
No thank you...
Option 4 Name: Additional Photos
Dropdown or Radio Button
1 5 x 7
2 5 x7
3 5 x 7
Now, for any Product image, you can use these Option Names and Values and set prices in the Attributes Controller specific to each image (Product) to which you are applying the Options.
This would be more related to checkout than attributes ...
Attributes are not really "smart" settings as the results a a dynamic list of peices and parts that make up a Product but then are not real well designed for control features for checkout ...
Shipping settings/pricing should really be treated during the checkout process
Edited: see this thread for this part of the question on Free Shipping and APO
http://www.zen-cart.com/modules/ipb/index....showtopic=39395
well, maybe I'm not explaining it totally... ok there is one picture "duck" for sale. there are several different products offered for "duck"... 5x7, mouse pad, key chain, etc... all optional, with different qty...
say I am looking at duck, I want to see all products available listed below, with options to select....
so I choose 2 5x7's, 1 mouse pad, and 1 key chain...
so I add to cart...
shop some more for different items... then return to my cart...
while in my cart, I decide I do not want 2 5x7's of duck, but only 1... I cannot change this option without deleting all items selected for duck.... I would like to have each option available to change qty in the cart...(pref. in the item as well...)
is this possible? or do I have to list duck - mouse pad as one item, then re list duck - 5x7 as another item... and so on?? that would be very inconveinient....
I hope this has explained it more detailed... because I have already tried the suggestion and you still have to add or delete the entire order for duck... rather than changing each option...
thanks
Sorry- but the functionality you are looking for is not attributes, but more a "parent/child product" situation.
You could however make "Duck" a category with the products of mug, mousepad etc as individual products.
I read through 30 pages of this thread and can't find my answer! I think I must doing something simply wrong.
I'm making a website that sells purses. Some of them need different color options - fine, I got that working. But I need to add color swatches, just an image of the color samples (would be great to automatically switch the product pic with a different color one, though).
But I can't figure this out? I tried to upload a picture using Attributes Image Swatch several times, several variations, but nothing seems to work.
Any ideas?
The Attribute images display on the page, but there is not an automatic selection change when this happens on product image
One of the problems would be ...
I have 4 Option Names and each has Option Values with images ...
Which of the 4 rules the products_image?
I was having the problem of getting the images to display at all. I removed the Option Names and Values and did it over again and it worked fine, not sure why.
But yeah, I can see how that would be difficult... is there some way to manually add this? So anytime one of the color swatches was clicked on or moused over it would change the main product image? A mod perhaps?
You guys rock, by the way. I've installed Zen-cart before but with little modifications. This project has been a bit harder. These forums are a great help. ::tup
I don't know one off the top of my head but there have been posts on managing images differently than just the small, medium, large, additional small, additional large and attribute images ...

I tried the option names sorter and the option values sorter and my values seem to be correct for how I want things sorted on the product page, but they are still sorted alphabetically. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm sure it's something glaringly obvious. :D
The product I'm messing with currently.
I'd like it to sort in this order: size, grommet color, collar, shoulder treatments, bottom treatments, bias tape.
Thanks!!! I <3 zencart!
-Devlyn-
You need to change the sort order of the Option Names ...
Then check the setting in the Configuration ... Product Info ... for:
Code:Sort order of Option Names for Products Info
0= Sort Order, Option Name
1= Option Name
Thanks! That was the problem!
I knew it would be something simple.
-Devlyn-
Thanks for letting us know that fixing the setting on the Sort Order for the Option Names fixed your display issues on the Option Name of the Attribute settings ... :)
Hi,
Let's say product A comes in colour combinations 1 through 20 BUT all 20 are not always in stock (which fluctuates fairly often)
Is there a way that the buyer can choose 2 or 3 options in order of preference, so that if their 1st pref is out of stock we supply their 2nd...3rd...etc
This is not an option at this time ...
You could set them up as checkboxes so the choices could be made but ...
1 no confirmation any choices were made
2 no confirmation of order
Or, you could do the above with comments in a text attribute
I am setting up a site with very few products for sale -- I primarily need a cart for the help with various checkout options that I don't want to deal with coding myself. In fact, I don't plan to use most of Zen Cart -- I'm just planning to incorporate Zen Cart forms into a few of my existing pages and have people sent to Zen Cart when they click a button to purchase a product.
At any rate, one of the most important items for sale is gift certificates. I would like users to be able to buy gift certificates in any amount. Is there any way that I can send an amount entered by the user to Zen Cart and have it process it? I would like it to record the transaction with the user-entered amount and if possible redirect users to a page where they can download their gift certificate (automatically generated based upon user input).
I suppose I could make an item that costs $1 and let users control the quantity, though that doesn't quite make sense, especially with the download. I tried having a text input field, but that doesn't seem to be able to be connected to the price.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Greg Westin

I should add that I want to allow users to buy gift certificates based upon the products they would like to give someone else. Again, I think I can handle the coding outside of Zen Cart to make the jump from them selecting the products they want to getting the final price of the gift certificate, but I don't know how to send that price to Zen Cart for payment processing. Please, let me know if this is possible, or where I should start looking in my attempts to hack this functionality into existence!
Thank you,

Greg-
Zen Cart is not designed to be used piecemeal for taking orders. It is designed to *be* the ecomm site.
Hi Kim,
So if I set things up so the Zen Cart is not used piecemeal, but is managing the whole site, is there a way to get it to do what I want (arbitrarily priced gift certificates, based upon user input)?
Thanks,
Greg

Not at this time.
You could get trick with the product_info page ...
Make the Product a Gift Certificate for $1.00
Make the spot where price normally shows to read something else or blank when products_id = the Gift Certificate
Make the Add to Cart read something different than the current text so it looks more like you are selecting a Gift Certificate amount than a qty ...
Again, you are making changes based on products_id = XX
Then, the product _info page runs one way for regular products and another for other products ...
If you do the Listings ... you would need to adjust the display for those too based on products_id
Takes a bit of work, but you can use the overrides for most all of this ... :)
I read through this thread and couldn't find anything that specifically addressed my problem...
I'm using Zen Cart as an event registration system, and so far I've been able to do almost everything I need to do with it. (These forums have been a tremendous help ^_^.) But I'm still running into a problem I can't seem to resolve.
For the even we're testing this for, we need the registrants to agree to a set of terms and conditions. The idea we've been working with is to have a checkbox attribute alogn the lines of "I have read and agreed to the terms and conditions" and putting the actual terms in the product description -- as is shown here. However, the bit we added to the end ("My checking the box (above) verifies that I have read an agree to the terms stated above. I understand that un-checked entries will not be accepted.") is pretty clunky, and gives me a headache when I think about charges going through without terms being accepted.... Is there a way to require that the box be checked so that the order will not be placed otherwise?
Thanks!
Anna
You could try using the TEXT as required ...
This does not guarantee they said yes but the had to mark an x in the box or something to add the product to the cart this way
Ajeh and Kim,
I think that what I'm going to do to work around this limitation is to set up the gift certificates as being priced at $0, with price attributes $1, $2, $3, $5, $10, $20, $30, $50, $100, $200, $300, $500, $1000. Then I can write a script that takes user input of any amount (up to $2221, I guess, unless I add more attributes), selects which attributes need to be selected, and submits that to Zen Cart. Perhaps I should do all of this within the Zen Cart framework, but that framework really doesn't fit my site.
Thanks for the help, again. Hopefully at some point I'll be back in the fold, using Zen Cart as it's meant to be used, and having it do what I want.

Ive searched through my stylesheet.css but can't seem to find anything..and I cant even view my own source (!?!) to find out what its classed as (know its off topic but if anyone could point me in the right direction for viewing my source i'd really appreciate it!!

Hi All...I swear I searched, I did :) I made it thru 22 pages of replies before I skipped thru a few pages and Im stumped. My deal is this:
I have a site that is for scrapbooking. Until I get better at it, ALL of my stuff will be free. I have uploaded images and set up products and created attributes for them. I've uploaded my zipped file to the /download directory and I have a green circle in front of my filename, so all is good.
After doing all of this, no link shows up on my page. I've gone thru the step by step procedure here: http://www.zen-cart.com/modules/xoopsfaq/i...php?cat_id=8#71
and Im still at a loss.
On a side note..is there no way to have a direct download of a free product, without going thru the shopping cart?
Thanks for ANY help, I appreciate it,
Sydney
no wonder its not been covered...its pretty plain obvious :blink:Quote:

doh! MUST OPEN EYES AND READ rather than thinking i'm looking at gibberish
OMG 46 pages to scan over to try find my problem :(
I have set up size attributes for my items (clothes) works great but, I cant see any way of keeping track of my stock for each size.
lets say I have 20 blue shirts in the cart.
there are 4 sizes, 5 of each.
when a customer buys one of the sizes the cart reduces the in stock to 19.
but, if say all 5 of one size sell out and no other sizes have been purchased the cart says there are 15 units in stock, customers can still buy the sold out size because the cart knows I have 15 units left, but it does not know how many of each size I have.
Am I making sense? if so is there a way of setting the quantity of each attribute?
the only other way round this I can see is to have a category called blue shirt and then have each size in that category as an individual item, which makes navigating the cart harder for my customers.
Only if you've left your preferences at the ridiculously small default "posts-per-page" setting.Quote:

If you go here in the control panel, you can set it to 40. Then this thread is only 10 pages long. I'm not entirely sure how anyone can work with the defaults - all that back and forwarding would do my head in!
As for attributes themselves - can't help you! They are a mystery to themselves and people from MENSA who may be able to work them out! Roll on the Wiki :)

Sorry, but stock by attributes is not yet available in the core. It is scheduled for a future release.
Is it possible to have attributes affect the prices of other attributes? For example, if I was selling Pizza:
Attributes: Size (Sm/Md/Lg/XL), Topping 1, Topping 2
Now, if the customer wanted a small pizza, the price of Sausage as Topping 1 would be +$1.00, but if the customer wants an extra large pizza, the Sausage as Topping 1 would be +$3.00.

Is Zen-Cart able to have attributes that depend on each other? For example, say I have a SIZE attribute and depending on which size they select, the COLOR attribute will have a different selection.
If they choose Large, it could have Blue and Yellow as a COLOR choice. If they choose Small, it could have Black and Green as a color choice.
Is this possible?
I have a question about some order options and wonder if Attrivutes would help at all.
My customer wants to sell their items in cases, and offer discounts for ordering multiple cases. Like:
Say each case holds 10 of the item.
CASES.......UNITS....................DISCOUNT............UNIT COST
1 to 9 .....10 to 90 units ........30% discount.........$15.95/ea
10-19.......100 to 190 units ...40% discount..........$14.95/ea
20-39.......200 to 390 units.....50% discount.........$13.95/ea
(there are shipping charges per case, but maybe that's another post, eh?)
Can Zen Cart support this and if it is the Attributes Controller, pls help me see how it applies.
TIA
B)
If you set the Minimum to 10 and Units to 10 ... you can then configure the Discount Quanties ...
Customers will have to buy in units of 10 and the discounts will apply based on how many they buy ...
Hi,
That's in the product record, as opposed to the Attributes Controller, right? I see the fields there, or am I mixed up (b/c I don;t see the discounts there).
If I also sell the product in single units, do I have to make another product record, or can I handle both type of sales from one record?

How are your products setup now?
What is your starting price on this?
How do I remove the decimal place in the price from the attribute dropdown? I want +250.00 to become --> +250
You write some custom code :)
 , ok, I thought it might be something that is easily done. Its just that when the attributes are $1000+, the $.00 is insiginifant. :lol:Quote:

You could customize the code for that ... but it is not built into Zen Cart ... B)
I scammed the attributes thread but didn't find what I was looking for, so risking sounding repetative or too noob like, I have to ask. Is there a way to turn OFF an attribute, without DELETING it from a product? For instance, I sell some soaps. they come in a LOT of different scents. sometimes I have all the scents, sometimes only a few. Can I disable the scents I don't have (so they don't show up on the product screen as a choice) without taking it OFF of that product completely?? I really hope so and have my fingers crossed as adding them, and deleting them, and adding them again, can become very time consuming :)
Thanks! :D

I am not an expert at this, I'm just starting myself, but it sounds like instead of using attributes for products, you should have each attribute be a separate product. That way you can track inventory, and automatically prevent people from ordering soaps that are out of stock. I am doing this with costumes. It would be nice if size and color were attributes and inventoried separately but they aren't. You could probably use javascript to write code to use drop down menus for color and size or whatever and then use javascript to select the proper product to display. I might try that eventlually, but right now I just want the store up. ::frustQuote:

There isn't a disable/enable on individual Attributes on a Product ... either they are there or not there ...
ok, I'll just keep deleting as adding as needed then, although time consuming, it works fine that way :)
Thanks
I will keep this idea in mind ... but trying to see which is worse ... enable/disable vs delete/re-add
I don't want to get too wild on the idea as we have Stock Attributes coming in a future release ... and why re-invent the wheel twice? Or are we on the umpteenth time now?
I have installed and understand the attributes / qty discounts configs. I am however stumped on this attempt (and it could be because my brain shut off earlier today from work overload!).
Ok, here is what I need to know:
How do you setup an attribute such as "setup price" (one time charge) BUT ... only apply it to certain quantities ordered?
Here is a "real world" better explanation (It think).
I have 1 product with let's say 10 different quantity discounts ranging from let's say:
1-5 costs $.05
6-10 costs $.04
11-20 costs $.03
(and so on ....).
NOW THE TRICK. I ALSO have a one time Setup Charge of $35 (attribute already setup in the cart and working "across the board) HOWEVER, that attribute only applies to any order that is at LEAST equal to or over 11 quantities ordered. For all orders of quantities under 11, there should be NO additional Setup Charge.
How can I accomplish this? Or can I? Thanks in advance. :)
Afraid I did not make one of those ... specifically
You might try working with the:
Onetime Attributes Qty Price Discount:
And see if you cannot manipulate it that way ... I'd really have to fool with it myself when I have more time to see if that wouldn't do what you are trying to do by using it backwards so to speak ...
Thanks Linda! You are the woman! It worked like charm.
I simply setup the Qty One-Time Pricing attribute for each of the products that had a setup charge and all went superbly.
Thanks for the info. :D
Excellant ... thanks for letting us know that the built in features of attributes pricing worked for you on your product prices ... :)
Hello all!
I'm making great progress with a new store and all the information available on the forum. :) but I'm struggling with one bit of attributes.
I want to 'Display prices with tax' - which I have enabled in admin. Now I can add prices to products either inc. or excl. tax. However, it seems I can only add prices to attributes as excluding tax.
Is there any way to 'display prices with tax' and add prices to attributes with tax inclusive value?
Thanks! (sorry if i missed something in the thousand posts in this thread!! - I did scan it as best I could).
If you have display tax enabled ... and the person is logged in and should be taxed ... you should see tax on both the products_price and the attributes prices ...
Hi Ajeh
Thanks for the quick reply. :)
We have a little confusion and I see I didn't explain myself clearly.
Basically, I want 'display prices with tax' enabled, but still be able to enter attribute prices in admin with tax inclusive prices. This is possible with product pricing (because there are two boxes available - inc tax + ex tax).
Hope that makes sense! :)
At this time ... attributes follow the tax rule of the Product they do not have their own setting ...
Hi All,
Is there any way to display the Attributes below the Description? Also how can I get the Attributes using Checkboxes to display in rows instead of columns (Or Can I?)
I have have products with many attributes (ex. Size, Color, Enclosure Card, Signature, and extras) then each of these have 3 to 15 choices. I would like to use drop downs for some and check boxes for others but I can't get the check boxes to display how I want them. ::frust
Thanks,
To change the Attributes to below the description edit the product _info page you are looking at and start by adding border="1" so you can see ...
Then alter where the code goes ... be sure to use your templates and overrides directory ...
As to how many attributes are in a row ... if you go to the Option Name and hit Edit ... there are a whole slew of settings hidding back there ... B)
Ajeh,
Thanks for the help, Would the product_info page I need to edit be in the Includes->Modules->Pages->Product_Info? How can I tell which page I need to work with?
Also
Changing the attribute Images per row doesn't seem to do anything. Is there somthing in the Admin that might need turned on/off?Quote:

Hello everybody. I'm a new Zen Cart user and I have a question concerning attributes:
Is it possible to make the product picture change when choosing another attribute option?
Example (hope it will be more comprehensible...): I put a color attribute on a product and I would like to know if it's possible to make having product's green picture on screen when people choose green, yellow when people choose yellow, and so on for each colors?
Sorry for my english, I hope someone will understand my question...
Thank you!
Sorry that is not available as a stock feature. You can have an image of each attribute separately.
Thanks for the fast reply!!
And a big THANK YOU to the Zen Cart team!! Very usefull and well made soft!!
Joël
Somehow being on page 50 of this topic makes me feel special...
anywho - I've been looking thru here and have found a lot of questions about attributes regarding selections, what I'm hoping to find the answer for seems pale in comparison, but I haven't been able to wrap my brain around it.
Everything is set up as it should be but for a few products that are super large and delicate, requiring extra shipping and insurance costs. I can't figure out how to apply the one time charge or create an attribute that would automatically add the charge to the base price and show in the checkout.
I want to apply a special shipping and insurance charge and have only been able to add it as an option.
Would it be better to create a new shipping type taking the flat shipping module and calling it 'shipping and insurance' or some such?
If that would be the way to go, are there any other files I need to change besides the language files?
If I'm off in left field, could someone toss me a line?
thanks in advance
Hi BaldNow,
Do these few Products all require the same insurance and shipping charges or are they different for each and for each destination?
You could set up an option name "Shipping and Insurance" with multiple values and and require at least the minimum but give them higher options.
Could you add the additional shipping and insurance into the base price, and make a note in the description that it is already included in the price.
There is also an Insurance module out there, you can do a search for. I don't know how it works but it may help.
Good Luck
thanks for the reply ewaite.
All the other products have been set up using a flat rate, but there are a few (3 in all) different rates for just a few items.
I set up a special S&I attribute with the 3 new prices listed but don't want them as an option.
I have the attribute name as a read only saying special shipping and insurance cost and have also added in the product description that this cost exists.
But when I add the attribute it says choose one (even tho there is only one listed and no checkmark or anything to allow them to choose).
What I'm trying to figure out is how to do the following, shown in bold, taken from the directions and reposted in these forums, but never really spelled out:
I think doing either of the above in bold would work, but haven't figured how to add it and have it show as special shipping and insurance cost.Quote:
Depending on what you want to do with attributes there are several methods to price, add weight, sort order, and mark the type of attribute this is.
Price can be entered with a prefix of + or - or blank
+ and blank will add the attribute price <--this but not as an option?
- will subtract the attribute price
Weight can be entered optionally if it effects the product weight with a prefix of + or - or blank
+ and blank will add the attribute weight
- will subtract the attribute weight
There are other pricing options also available besides the standard prices.
One Time Charge <-- or this again not as an option?
Price Factor
One Time Charge Price Factor
Attirbute Qty Price
One Time Attribute Qty Price
I hope someone have actually used this because as I noted I've seen this statement made numerous times, but not how to actually do it.
So yeah, any help or shove in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again
READ ONLY option types are for "display" purposes ... they do not get added to the order ...
Change it to a checkbox if you want the person to make a choice ...
Change it to a Radiobutton if no choice, and mark as Default so that it is auto selected
I am trying to implement a simple attribute... I have a ring that we sell that has 4 sizes. I created the attributes and added it to the product. I made the attributes required. Unfortunately, the customer can still add the item to cart without selecting and attribute. Also, if an attribute is selected it's not included in the order confirmation email we receive. Any ideas what's going on?
Thanks!
You can see the product here: http://www.clevershoppers.com/christ-for-l...usso-p-599.html
Perhaps setting a default ... or adding
Select Ring Your Size
Sort order 0
Default
Display Only
It does not look like you set a default or one would be marked ...
Hi BlessIsaacola,
Add another option value "select a size" and in the attributes controller when you add it to the product make it "for display only" (Yellow) and "selected by default" (Orange) then your customer will have to change it before they can proceed to check out.
Good Luck,
Ed
