Thanks for all your help guys and gals, but i think i will have to wait till after the weekend to get this done.
You're making this more complicated than it is. If you uploaded the files using the same structure and install the sql file, you should have no problem. You will not have the configuration options on the Admin side unless you install the sql statements.

BlessIsaacola, have you upgraded to the latest version? Instead of removing the product_id, I added more options! UPC, ISBN, and model :)

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Hello,
Something really weird happened. I had everything working and when I cam back the next day the nothing would work the click [Here] link it a javascript: (viod 0) link.
So I then decided to just install 1.5.2 since it was released so i did the install as normal and then upgraded the sql and still a javascript void link. So I then uninstalled the sql and then reinstalled and still the void link.
Why would it do that and what can I do to fix it.
thanks

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Hi all.
I managed to get this mod working after a detoxing weekend
I recharged the batteries and got it working.
Now I have one small question.
Does or has anyone that has this mod installed, have any special prices on thier website?
If so does the feed still get processed in the same way and will google accept the feed?
I am asking as a friend has this mod, not sure if they have updated, and it keeps booting out the products he has with a special price, sale price etc.
thanks in advance
Rob

I upgraded and this is by far a superior mod and I only had one product rejected by Google due to this error message "We didn't understand some of the XML formatting in your file. You may be missing a tag or have a nesting or formatting error."
I decided to use the product ID as the unique identifier because you brought up a good point with regards to the fact that there will never be a duplicate id but there is potential to have duplicate model, upc or isbn.
Thank you so much!

99.9% of our products are on special and this mod is smart enough to use the special price and Google flawlessly accepted all products and display the special price. It's all working according to specification and we couldn't be happier.

Thanks very much.
My friend must be using an older version of this mod then.
i will continue to go ahead and install on my other site.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I'm installing the latest version for the first time and so far so good, but I noticed that the previous version in the downloads section has an admin/includes/modules folder that doesn't appear in the latest version when I download it.
Just want to make sure this is no longer needed.
Thanks!

Refer to the version history notes in the readme.txt and you will see that the UPC/ISBN is no longer included with the mod.

Not all of the attributes are included in the mod. You can look into adding this in the same way the product_weight was just added. This information can be found in this thread. Future versions may include these attributes but for efficiency and simplicity of the configuration file, they are not yet included.
I would just add this attribute to your product titles although Google Base even searches the descriptions of the products by default.

Hello Numinix,
This is totally unrelated but the google graphic is really skewed in my admin because the image size outputed is 110 x 48 px and the image size is larger than that. So I found a new image and made it to the size required. i hope this was fine anyhow I am submitting it to you if you would like to use it.
I posted a revised version of microsoft live in the lps thread as well

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Did you manually create your feed file?
The mod now creates the feed file for you. Delete your file in your server and re-run the script.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I'm running Zen Cart 1.3.5 and have uploaded Google Base Feeder v1.5.2 and applied all the sql scripts I checked the tables and they seem to be in proper form.
I have the admin->tools->Google Base Feeder menu however there is no amin->configuration->google froogle configuration menu to configure the module. Any ideas what could be the issue?

So the mod does not overwite the existing file? Strange.
So every time one has to update the feed, the existing feed file must be deleted first?
Or am I misunderstanding the above statement?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
No, it just needs to create the file itself in order to be able to chmod it. It was a bug on my part to include the created file in the feed folder. This should be fixed in the documentation in the next version, if or when it's released.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I installed v1.5.2 following instructions,
installed googlefroogle.sql no problems, but when I try to install
update_1_5_2.sql I get the following error:
1062 Duplicate entry 'GOOGLE_BASE_WEIGHT' for key 2
in:
[INSERT INTO configuration (configuration_id, configuration_title, configuration_key, configuration_value, configuration_description, configuration_group_id, sort_order, date_added, use_function, set_function) VALUES (NULL, 'Show Weight', 'GOOGLE_BASE_WEIGHT', 'false', 'Include products weight?', @configuration_group_id, 33, NOW(), NULL, 'zen_cfg_select_option(array(\'true\', \'false\'),'), (NULL, 'Weight Units', 'GOOGLE_BASE_UNITS', 'pounds', 'What unit of weight measure?
pounds OR kilograms', @configuration_group_id, 33, NOW(), NULL, 'zen_cfg_select_option(array(\'pounds\', \'kilograms\'),');]
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.
Also, in Zen Cart Admin I have Google Base Feeder Configuration option, but under Tools, I have no entry for GBF (I also had this same problem with Windows Live Feeder and have not yet resolved it either).

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Hi there - I'm a bit new to all this. I just upgraded my store to 1.3.7 and after a long weekend sorting the template out I'd like to add googlefroogle.php. I used to use feedcreator.php but I had to do this manually each month.
I've downloaded it but the readme has only basic installation instructions. It just says download and unzip in your store directory. Do I need to create a new folder? What then - I assume it dosen't automatically appear in the admin unless I add some files somewhere.
Sorry to sound like a total newbie but any help greatly appreciated.

You only need to run the update SQL if you are upgrading from v1.5.1. If you have already run the googlefroogle.sql, you have done a fresh reinstall of the SQL and are already at v1.5.2.

Upload the files and folders to your store's root directory except for the sql files, and readme.txt.

From time to time Google performs maintenance and does not accept updates to feed files. You'll be able to send the file, but it won't be processed until after their maintenance period.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Thanks for the answer on the .sql updat numinix, but my biggest problem is that Google Base Feeder doesn't show under Tools in Zen Cart admin. I do have it under Configuration though. I'm having the same problem with Windows Live Product Search contrib so the issues must be related. I'm at a total loss of what to do.

numinix:
I have an earlier version of Froogle Feeder from a couple of months ago.
Since then, there have been a number of updates and sql patches.
I'm going to update to 1.5.2, tonight and wondering if I need all of the patches in the SQL folder?
I'm not using UPC/ISBN numbers. Should I just run the 1.5.2 patch?
Or does it pay to wait for the next iteration, altogether?
I bow before you in gratitude

Zinfandel,
You're welcome. You should just do an overwrite of the files included in v1.5.2. There are no core overwrites so you can upload without any worry. Back-up your SQL db and run the googlefroogle.sql. This will reset your configuration as though it were a fresh installation. If you are not using the UPC/ISBN they must remain disabled or you will receive SQL errors.

I was able to resolve this issue on my own. I had forgot that I have my store locked down pretty good which included renaming the default admin directory.
LOL, what an oversight.
Anyway, thanks for a great contrib. I'm heading over to your donation area now so I can give back.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Top of the evening to all of you.
I installed everything as I was told, and yet when I go to config, none of the configuration items are displayed. Yes, my admin is renamed, do I need to modify something to accomodate this?
So instead, I went into the database manually to config the values.
In tools, I was able to create the google_base.xml file, but none of what's there looks like XML to me.
Could that be the reason that I get the following error when I try to VIEW the product feed file
Quote:
XML Parsing Error: syntax error
Location: http://www.intimateu.com/feed/google_base.xml
Line Number 1, Column 1:
[FONT=Arial Narrow]title description link price image_link expiration_date product_type id brand condition mpn
^
[/FONT]
[FONT=Arial Narrow]
The line in red is the first line in the [/FONT]google_base.xml file.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Did you upgrade this from a previous version? You appear to be running an older version with a recent SQL. I'm not sure how you did that, but can you please reupload all of the files including googlefroogle.php located in the root of your store directory and the admin directory (rename to your admin folder name before uploading).

Are you running Admin Profiles? If so, you may need to give yourself permission to view. (Was just caught out myself on another mod with the same lack of visibility.)

There is a mod by Kuori called "Admin Profiles". You can find out if it is installed and if an AP setting is contributing to your issue by going to ZC Admin > Tools > Admin Settings > then click Edit Permissions for "ID1" (orange sphere with the letter P). (I am assuming here, if you have AP installed, you are logging into ZC admin with the username associated with ID1).
A menu of checkboxes will appear for ALL your ZC admin menu items. Look near the bottom for "googlefroogle" and "GoogleFroogle Configuration" and ensure both are checked.
The symptoms you describe of one menu item missing from your Tools menu AND the security clearance message you observed may indicate you have Admin Profiles installed and possibly one of those boxes are not checked.
But then again you may not have Admin Profiles installed another possibility is the GBF mod sql patch may not be properly patching your shop DB when run from Tools > "Install SQL Patches" page, so you may want to patch via phpmyadmin.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
THANKS numinix this is a great mod. I installed 1.5.2 on ZC 1.3.7 and added the UPC/ISBN without a hitch.
I liked that the old version produced a .txt file because it allowed me to edit it.
Example:
I sell new, used, and refurbished, the 1.5.2 admin can only be set to a single condition for all products.
On some items I offer google checkout. If the feed includes this info, a GC icon will appear by your listing.
There are many attributes that you can pass in a google feed, and trying to code every one of them would be fruitless. If you were to bring back the .txt file you would make an excellent mod perfect (at least for me).
Dan

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
You can edit an XML file as well. If you are using Windows you can use the built-in XML editor or just use any text editor.
You gave me a good idea to include the condition as an additional attribute in my Auction Site Attributes add-on for bulk listing files.

The world around you is moving to XML so you want to learn how to manipulate XML files.
Options abound.
Import the XML file into Excel and edit it, then upload.
Or just open the xml file in a text editor and edit it.
Or after uploading your feed edit your products in GoogleBase GUI.

I have noticed on the posts you have to unistall it but how do i know what needs to be removed can someone point me towards the description on how to do this thanks.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
i have read the readme text but im slightly confused about the sql update :
Go to Admin->Tools->Install SQL Patches and install googlefroogle.sql by copying and pasting (do not upload);
When i copy and paste the code into the box and send it i get a long list of problems when it tries to execute . I wasnt sure if it was safe to post the long list of code if it is i will.

And I've never actually gotten that part to work. I just go to my feed directory and download the file, then I go to base.google.com and upload manually. Yes, this needs to be automated but at least I am getting the darned thing uploaded! It just hangs when I try to let the script upload to google.

Using this command to initiate a cron job to run the google base feeder automatically (based on what my host needs command wise, and what is included as an example in the install.txt):
/usr/bin/php -q /home/mydirectory/public_html/googlefroogle.php?feed=yes&upload=yes
which seems to run fine, but getting an error saying the "No input file specified". Anyone know what this could be? The googlefroogle.php file is there and in the right place...

You are not using a current version. You must have downloaded the script using the link located at the bottom of the page instead of the top. You can make sure you have the latest version by using the version located on my website.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
v1.5.3 GOOGLE BASE FEEDER
1. Added support for Auction Site Attributes (required if using UPC);
2. Outputs items in descending order for RSS readers;
This includes CONDITION, and PRODUCT_TYPE using the PRODUCT CATEGORY attribute from Auction Site Attributes.
If you do not have Auction Site Attributes installed, but are using the UPC/ISBN mod (no longer supported), then you should activate Auction Site Attributes from the GBF configuration. This will allow you to continue to include UPC/ISBN in your feed.
For those who are not using ASA, there is still a reason to upgrade. This new version outputs the products in descending order (newest to oldest). This means that if you view your XML/RSS file with an RSS reader, it will display your newest products first. Just a little something to help those wanting to have an RSS feed on their website and do not currently have the RSS 2.0 script that Andrew Berezin no longer distributes.

.txt is for tab delimited files. The latest versions of this script only use .XML. In 1.5.4 I will make it so that if the file is named incorrectly, it will return an error.

Found a bug in the script. Rather than release a new version, I will release a patch here. The version on my website will include the patch.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I just installed 1.5.3 plus the new patch posted here. I have 2 problems...
1) The link from Admin -> Tools -> Google Base Feeder points to the file "Google Base Feeder.php" (which doesn't exist.) I can load it by manually going to .../admin/googlefroogle.php.
2) Step 1 opens a small window which sits for a couple of minutes, then times out with the error:
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/(removed)/includes/classes/bmz_image_handler.class.php on line 443
I have Image Handler 2 mod installed and that's what the error is referring to but I have no idea why....?

Not sure what caused your first error, but for the second one you need to increase the max execution time in your admin configuration as directed earlier on in this thread.
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
OK, I changed max execution time to 300 and I still get the same error saying that it exceeded max execution time of 30....?
If it helps, bmz_image_handler.class.php line 443 is...
Code:
imagesetpixel($background, $x + $startwidth, $y + $startheight, $color);
I have over 4,000 products. Could that have something to do with why it's timing out?
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Try changing the max execution time in php.ini. I have no other solution than that. You can find this information in the first couple of posts in this thread.
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Numinix, I am going to ask this question but don't slap my hands for asking. Is there a way to convert the xml generated to a text file?
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Not within this script. You'd have to rewrite it.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I just uploaded 1.5.3 a and update .sql and it isn't creating the correct feed. (it was working before I updated everything)
I changed my output file name from ***.txt to ***.xml--> registered the new file with googlebase-->created a new file-->uploaded file to google base
the new file created does not contain any of my products:
Code:

-

-

Mommy and Baby Essentials

GOOGLE_BASE_DESCRIPTION

I have uploaded everything 2 times.
Any ideas what I did wrong?
Thanks

All of a sudden it works.
Maybe the server was under heavy load yesterday. Anyway, it's all good now. Thanks!

I fixed it!! I deleted all of the google froogle files....uninstalled all .sql files and started over. For some reason overwriting the files did not work...oh well it's fixed!!!

Hi numinix,
I have 2047 items: before even going into the timeout, I've got the following error, while creating feed:
error on line 487 at column 6594: Entity 'eacute' not defined
I'm going to look for the meaning of it, but if you happened to know what it is all about, I will very much appreciate your help,
Thanks,
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Well, just to speed up the process at this moment I have replaced all 'eacute' characters with the regular 'e'.
Now about the timeout: I have 2024 active items - the results of running the feed are as follow:
"Google Base Feeder v.1.5.3 28.08.2007 10:25 started 2007/09/01 01:59:49
Feed file - (...) /feed/google_base.xml
Processing: Feed - Yes, Upload - No
Google Base File Complete In 4.271262 Seconds 2024 Records
So, it seems like it populated all items, however, I've got another error message:
This page contains the following errors:
error on line 25275 at column 343010: internal error
It seems to me like end of the file anyway, I'm not sure what the error is about - any clues?
Thanks,

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
I thought mine was working correctly when I ran it early in the morning (less server load?) but I found that it only output 1,295 products. I have over 4,000 products. :(

Hi - I've ran into something like this: 2 possible scenarios: an actual error (i.e. unrecognized character, etc.) - you can see that if you view the xml file via Tools>Google Base Feeder >view (in Step 1).
Or: you have linked items, in which case the xml will generate only the 'master category' files (at least this is what I believe after playing with it a bit).
Maybe someone could confirm that - Thanks,
-

I was not fully accurate in above statement:
Well, the .xml file is skipping the linked products, HOWEVER, the products skipped seem not to be based on the 'master category' (products table > master_categories field) - they seem to be rather random...
Do you think it could be more practical if the products listed in xml will be 'associated' with the master category instead of linked category? I guess it may not matter to some, but maybe it would be beneficial? Anyone any thoughts on this?
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
It is a timeout issue, he/she needs to create a php.ini file in addition to changing the max execution time in Zen Cart.
Seems like you will need a max-execution time of about 120s on your server if only 1/4 of your UNLINKED products are appearing in the feed file with a 30s max-execution time.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
when i try to generate an xml file, i just get a blank page almost instantly. the SQL installed correctly, and i have it configured properly. why is this happening?

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Hi everybody :)
I'm having a bit of a problem setting up the feed.
The issue I believe I am having with the shop is that the location of the shop is at http://www.duckworthsuk.com/shop/ (when you visit http://www.duckworthsuk.com the index.php forwards you on to http://www.duckworthsuk.com/shop)
These are the settings you are after.
Store Address: http://www.duckworthsuk.com/shop (also tried http://www.duckworthsuk.com/)
Output Directory: feed/ (also tried /feed/)
The odd thing is that first of all it puts an extra "shop" in the URL, so it looks in http://www.duckworthsuk.com/shop/sho...orthsukcom.xml (or http://www.duckworthsuk.com/shop/sho...orthsukcom.xml when output directory is "feed/"). I have created a blank file in the above directory that will be overwritten. However, when I click on the "Click [HERE] to create / update your product feed.", the javascript window updates with the index page, and the feed file generated is invalid (it's actually HTML).
You can see it here: http://www.duckworthsuk.com/shop/sho...orthsukcom.xml
I am using SEO URL's 3.0.0-beta1 as well, could that be conflicting with it?
I have created a blank .xml called "duckworthsukcom.xml" in

I get the following error for any version I install even the latest 1.5.3.

I don't have access to php.ini unless I install my own php. I think it would be easier to just create the file offline.

You have the same MySQL version as I do, so I am not sure what the error is. Please completely uninstall the script by running the uninstall.sql. Then upload all of the 1.5.3 files overwriting any existing files and then reinstall the googlefroogle.sql file by copying and pasting. Let me know how it goes.

Yes, you can create a php.ini and place it in your store's root directory.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Quick question ( is there such a thing??lol!)
I created a feed file today. The expiration date looks like this:
<g:expiration_date>2008-09-07</g:expiration_date>
Does this mean it will expire today??
Also what does this option in the admin mean?
"Expiration Date Adjust"
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
just found the googlebase details for each field in the file and it shows that this is the expiration for this item.
How do I set it to be a date in the future?????????????
Where in the admin do I do this??
Thanks

Why don't you read your first post a little more carefully. Or give me a nobel prize for time travel :)
Configuration is done from the admin->configuration->google base feeder configuration.

Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Hi am i a new user to Zen Cart we only decided in the last couple day to move shopping carts from oscmax to Zen Cart we are in the middle of installing mods for Zen and we are having trouble with MSN Live & Froogle Feeder I have installed both mods ok run both mods to test and only get two products in xml files this applies to both mods I have increased variable settings in PHP.ini to
max_execution_time = 300max_input_time = 90memory_limit = 64M
but still only exports two products I have checked log files on linux based system and have no error entries for mods I am assuming that i must have dirty data in database causing the error export of products?
Many Thanks
Webie
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Were these TWO products added after the migration?
I have no experience with migrating from OSC to ZC and can't tell you the difference. HOWEVER, a script called Zen Magic by MagicOne is used for storing and updating products into Zen Cart in a similar manner as OSC and I know that these products are NOT extractable by any of my mods. What you may want to try doing is exporting all of your products out of your database and then use excel to put them into Easy Populate file specifications and update your site using Easy Populate. The products should then become extractable from the database by these mods.
Perhaps DrByte, Ajeh or one of the other developers with first hand experience with OSC could tell us the difference in how products are stored in the database.
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Hi Zen Flower,
All product are already in the Zen Cart Database in the correct format as required we use windows based program to import all products which is much faster than easy populate I have not used that mod for product for couple of years now. any other ideas as I have now errors logged very strange ?.
Many Thanks
webie
-
Re: Google Base Feeder Support Thread
Sorry, not Zen Magic. It's called Zen Manager and it is a Windows-based program that does not store products in the database as Zen Cart does normally. If you continue to use this program, you will need to follow my previous instructions or try using MagicOne's commercial script (at a price) for feeding your products to Google.

Yes, Numinix "2008", sometimes the obvious is not so obvious to tired eyes.
At the same time facetious comments do not answer the questions I asked.
I already found the answers to my questions in that post. i would have rather given you a Nobel prize for helping me out with my problem.
Now, let's start fresh.
Can ANYONE tell me what are the CORRECT permissions for images folder so Google base can access it. Ive read through a number of posts but still dont know the answer. Most of the discussion concern using other contribution.
I uploaded my files to Google Base and everything works EXCEPT no images, just placeholders. Google tech said he gets an 403 error for my images.
