Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
Hi Guys
As a complete newbe I am stuck with a problem on google base uploads.
I am running Zencart 1.3.9h and the guy who has been running the system for me has now moved on and as I am on my own the learning curve is somewhat steep!! :dontgetit
Everything appears to be running fine except that when I try to upload to Google Base it is showing 1427 products everytime even though I currently have 1452 products. On searching for our products on google they used to appear in the top 4 or 5 in google products but now do not appear at all. The only thing that has changed is that the previous guy was running a cron job and I went into my CPanel and stopped it so that I could upload manually. (When it was running at the end it was also showing only 1427 products)
Any ideas.
Also is there an idiots guide to using the google base upload system as you guys all appear to be well above me in the knowledge stakes. :smile:
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ian

Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
Ian, have you looked in your Google Merchant Account, that might show where some items have been disallowed and why (googles duplicate rules for eg, although there are many rules).

Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
No just install sql file and a few other folders.
But no instructions on where to upload via ftp.
presume you run the install file, but not knowing where to upload to makes it a little difficult.
thanks

What he said.. and burger going forward I don't know of any add-ons that DO NOT have some kind of readme or install doc.. you need to adopt the habit of looking through all the folders of your add-ons before you install them..

Doh !!!
I did do a search for it but searched for readme.txt but it was actually a html file so the search did not pick it up.
Its because I searched and could not find I asked where it was, but thanks for the advice

Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
Hi Sadfurry
Thanks for the reply.
Have checked the upload file and it appears to contain 1453 items but only shows 1427 items uploaded??
Then this morning the file did not upload at all and I got the following:-
Invalid Response Code
The remote server returned an invalid response code.
Examples:
Url - http://**username**:**password**@www...googleBase.txt
Response Code - 404
Any ideas what is wrong?

Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
I now have the instuctions, but still confused as to where to FTP the files.
It says
Unzip and upload all files to your Zen Cart catalog (rename admin folder to your custom folder name)
does this mean the roof directory or a folder called catalog (i dont appear to have one).
Thanks

And that's because every add-on author names/formats their install docs differently.. So it's better to just simply open the folders and take a looksee..

The instructions are not going to say "root directory" specifically since not everyone installs Zen Cart in the root.. Some installs are in a sub-directory
catalog = wherever YOU'VE installed Zen Cart..

Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
I have copied the folder google_merchant_center.
To my root directory and also copied the files/folders
catalog
sql updates
docs
install
uninstall
plus 2 update files to root directory
copied the install.sql via the instructions and still it does not work
i must be going wrong somewhere as it must be easier than this,
the option does not show up in admin/config/google merchant center
-
Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
Still having no success!!
Do I FTP the folder Google_merchant_center folder or the files within(tried both) to my root directory or to some other location?
I tried the install.sql
Go to Admin->Configuration->Google Merchant Center Configuration and setup all parameters
Not listed so guessing i have not put the files into the correct place to begin with.
Any one able to give a step by step guide please.
Many thanks

A step by step would be in the install instructions. It would help to know what part of the instructions you are having trouble with.

Thanks for the reply.
As above I have copied the folder & files inside the folder to my root directory, copied the install.sql file as instructed but the
Go to Admin->Configuration->Google Merchant Center
Does not appear on the configuration list so guessing I have not put the files in the correct directory/folder.
Do I ftp the folder or the files inside it
Where do I FTP them to
The rest seems straight forward once the module is installed but that is the bit I cannot seem to manage
Thanks

You copy over the CONTENTS of the "catalog" folder (what's INSIDE the folder), NOT the catalog folder. and you need to rename the admin and template folders to match your admin and template folder names..
-
Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
Thanks again for your reply
The only folders/files in the catalog folder are
admin
feed
includes
module_version
YOUR_ADMIN
and
googlefroogle.php
there is no template folder to rename
in the google merchant download folder is
catalog
docs
sql updates
install
uninstall
update_1_12_4
update_1_13_0
am i missing something from the download?
Thanks
-
Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
Dunno why you have a "YOUR_ADMIN" folder at all (it's not in the downloaded package), and it doesn't matter.. Regardless as to whether or not you have any template folders or not you need to RENAME THE ADMIN FOLDER to match your admin folder name and upload the CONTENTS of the catalog folder to wherever your store is located..

Also cannot rename the admin folder as it would be the same name as the OLD admin folder that is already there and you cannot have two folders with the same name in the same directory

You need to rename the YOUR_ADMIN folder to MATCH the name of the admin folder in your store. Then you need to upload the CONTENTS of the catalog folder to your store.

When I installed zen cart it tells you to rename the admin folder.
for example i named mine XYZ.
I cannot remane YOUR_ADMIN to XYZ as they are in the same place
Also the catalog contains a folder called includes which is also already in my root directory

YES YOU CAN!!! Oy!!!!:wacko:
The folders names in the fileset are SUPPOSED TO MATCH the folder names in the store or when you upload the files needed for the add-on to work they will not be in the right locations..
Now please don't take this the wrong way, but you might want to consider paying someone to help you with this install. This is a straightforward install, but you seem to be having a bit of trouble with it. It might be worth it for you to consider having someone assist you with this install.

Thanks I think you may be right, all other mods installed no probs at all, just this one driving me nuts :frusty: :frusty: :frusty:
I just tried to copy them again but got error saying a files exists with that name already do you want to replace the existing file.
Obviously I dont want to replace it I want them both but will not let me if they have the same name.
This is what makes me think I am putting the files in the wrong place, I installed ZC in the root directory so need to put these files in the same place.
Thanks

YES you REPLACE the file..
BUT
if those files have already been modified by other add-ons you installed you need to merge the changes for this add-on into those files first..
Seriously, I really do think you need to think about having someone help you with this install..

Google Merchant Center Feeder for Zen Cart v1.5.x
FYI.. I posted the Zen cart v1.5 flavor of this add on to the free downloads (Version: 1.13.0).
It is posted here: Google Merchant Center Feeder - http://www.zen-cart.com/index.php?ma...oducts_id=2091
I also took the liberty of starting a SEPARATE support thread for it: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1115710
Please DO NOT post questions regarding the v1.3.x versions of this add-on in this new support thread. Questions regarding the v1.3.x versions of this add-on should continue to be posted here.
If you post questions about the v1.3.x versions of this add-on you will be (gently or not so gently) redirected to this support thread.
FYI.. I'm not providing any support for these.. Just being a good net citizen by posting them..

Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
Hi Guys
This is a great forum, been able to get my google merchant feed working!!! :laugh:
However just one small problem. :(
When I run the GMC feeder it produces the xml file just fine but it shows the weights as Kilos and my zen cart is showing grams and it is causing a mismatch between the actual weights and what is going to Google.
Any ideas how to get them both working on the same settings?
:dontgetit

Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
Hello,
I'm having two on-going issues with the Google Base Feeder on Zen 1.3.9h and the latest Google Froogle (1.12.5, I believe...can't get into cPanel currently to confirm).
First, it's only picking up 46 of my products. There are about 60-65 in the store. Why isn't it picking them all up?
Second, Google won't insert any of my products. They all get this error: "Please make sure the expiration date is in the future." I have the settings in Zen Cart to set the expiration date as 29 days from "now," but they've all failed for this reason for months. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Scott

2. Availability & Price
A. availability [availability] - Availability status of the item
1. Your Zen-Cart must have "show quantity stock set to 1.
2. Your GM config must have Show Quantity (true) & Default Quantity (1)
I have Google denying my products due to lack of the Availability field.
I can't find either of the two settings mentioned above. Can someone give me more specific instructions of where to find 1 and 2?
Thank you!

Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
I had issues where my product descriptions had missing spaces when fed to Google. This was due to HTML line break tags being removed as the XML feed was generated. The google_base class does not take into account that <br /> tags aren't always followed by a real "\n" line break, especially if you use an html editor like TINYMCE in Zencart.
If you have descriptions that look something like this on Google:
"Line of textNext line of textAnother line"
Change the google_base class to replace <br> tags with a space BEFORE html is stripped out of the description.
/includes/classes/google_base.php ~line 438
Find this:
Code:
function google_base_sanita($str, $rt=false) {
//global $products;
$str = str_replace(array("\r\n", "\r", "\n", " "), ' ', $str);
$str = strip_tags($str);
//$charset = 'UTF-8';
//if (defined(CHARSET)) {
//$charset = strtoupper(CHARSET);
//}
$str = html_entity_decode($str, ENT_QUOTES);//, $charset);
//$str = html_entity_decode($str, ENT_QUOTES, $charset);
//$str = htmlspecialchars($str, ENT_QUOTES, '', false);
//$str = htmlentities($str, ENT_QUOTES, $charset, false);
return $str;
}
Replace with this:
Code:
function google_base_sanita($str, $rt=false) {
//global $products;
$str = str_replace(array("\r\n", "\r", "\n", " ","<br />","<br/>","<br>"), ' ', $str);
$str = strip_tags($str);
//$charset = 'UTF-8';
//if (defined(CHARSET)) {
//$charset = strtoupper(CHARSET);
//}
$str = html_entity_decode($str, ENT_QUOTES);//, $charset);
//$str = html_entity_decode($str, ENT_QUOTES, $charset);
//$str = htmlspecialchars($str, ENT_QUOTES, '', false);
//$str = htmlentities($str, ENT_QUOTES, $charset, false);
return $str;
}
You could add more tags you want replaced with a space in that array if you want. This is not a big deal unless you have a lot of line breaks at the beginning of descriptions like I do. You only get a little bit of text to feed to Google anyway.

Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
How do you add the additional Google fields to zen cart? I uploaded the new GM files, etc... and it works. However the feed does not show "Product_ Category" as is now required. Does this have to be added like when I added UPC and ISPN fields so that they would show in Easy Populate? Need help please.... Google has disapproved our feed and our site is no linger showing up in google searches.

Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread Version 1.12.0
Probably time to post this since a few v1.5 questions have cropped up on this support thread in the last week or two..
Just as a gentle reminder, THIS support thread is for Google Base (Froogle) Feeder - Versions: 1.12.0 - 1.12.5
If you are using Zen Cart v1.5 you should be using Google Merchant Center Feeder - Version: 1.13.0. There is a different support thread for that version here: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1115710
Carry on all..

Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
On the "Google Merchant Center Feeder Configuration"
I have enabled Admin for "Display Tax" to true , in the Country its "US" , in the region as of now "CA", Tax rate is set to "0" , however the feed does not generate any tax information.
Any tips ??

Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread - Version 1.12.0
I had the same problem happen to me last week. What you need to do is go into your Google Merchant account and set up your shipping and tax from there. That is the easiest way to fix it rather than do it from the feed. The setting on your account will over ride all other info on your feed for tax and shipping.
Once you have that set up, wait a day and then reload your feed. You should now see feed go online again.
Hope that helps.

Google is the worst. Now it is rejecting everything saying that category isn't defined. But then when adding a category it want's all kinds of other attributes! Went from having all products on google shopping then none. But other sites are still on there just fine, what gives?

Well now I see I'm a bit behind on all the required attributes for categories. Thing is, it was working fine up until now without that. If you leave "Google Product Category Default" will it work without needing attributes?
And...... in case I do try to set up attributes, the plugin doc says "Go to ADMIN->CATALOG->ATTRIBUTES CONTROLLER and assign the option to a product being sure to select display only" however, setting it to display only prevents items from being added to the cart and (as this thread mentions) you can't have the attribute you want to use set as display only.

as this thread mentions) you can't have the attribute you want to use set as display only.
UPDATE:
Product feed seems to be accepted by Google now. The issue was with the Shipping Country not being defined. This was caused by the error above that is actually a bug from an older version of this plugin. The fix the error, I went to myphpadmin searched for google_cfg_pull_down_country_list and changed to zen_cfg_pull_down_country_list. Then went back to the regular site admin and added United States as the Shipping Country.
Then, in order to not need the attributes, I removed the "Google Product Category Default". Google is throwing up a warning about it, but not an error, which means products will start to be searchable. This means in the future they will probably make attributes mandatory to screw with people.
The conclusion is that this whole fiasco started in the first place because the tax/shipping info was not defined in the admin. With the upgrade and these changes, everything seems to be back to normal.
Thanks.

Searching this thread (going back one page) would have turned up post #451. See if this solves your issue..

Ok looking at this... The Country Section in Configuration is not allowing me to input anything.

Re: Google Merchant module Version 1.12.0 by Numinix
There seems to be some XML error.
I am only getting about 1/8th of my products.
What can I do to fix? I turned the sanitation on but it did not go away.
-
Re: Google Merchant module Version 1.12.0 by Numinix
For some reason. Now I can only generate a file at 500 products at a time.
I have it set to no limits. Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Google Merchant module Version 1.12.0 by Numinix
Ok. Sorry I keep replying...
This is what I found out
My server company said when I try to run the feed it is spiking the CPU usage on the server
and then the server throttles back the allowance. Then my file cuts off.
What should I do other then find a new host?

You haven't said which version of Zen Cart and the Google add-on you are working with. If you are using Zen Cart v1.5 and v1.13 of this mod, you should post in the support thread for v1.13..

1.12.5 on Zen 1.3.9h with SSU
My feed file now produces incorrect url's with /language/en/ in it.
Example: http://www.1234.com/language/en/pear...n?currency=USD
Should be http://www.1234.com/pear-candles/pear-candle-brown
Does anybody have the same problem or suggestion how to solve it?

Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread Version 1.12.0
I have over 24000 products.
I tried everything to get this to work it keeps timing out.
Is there anything else I can use? Honestly I would rather have a output of CSV
so I can have more controll of my output. Is there any other way?
-
Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread Version 1.12.0
did you do the 777 for the feed directory? does any file get written at all?
-
Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread Version 1.12.0
I actually cmod to 755
My server company does not like 777
I put on my error log and it goes some of the way and stops
It does not write anything.
I limited it to Max products 2000 and starting at 1 and got a file.
But with 24,000 products, google only takes 10 data feeds.

Google announced today, Google shopping will no longer be free!
Google it and you will see what I mean....
I think this is going to be a big blow for many zenners...

Re: The NEW Google Merchant Thread Version 1.12.0
Hi,
We are on Zen Cart V1.5. With "Google Merchant Center Feeder" version 1.13.0 installed. Everything is working great accept 8 of my 1306 products are missing the "google product category" tag. I'm currently only using the "Google Product Category Default". What would cause the XML file to not create this tag for only 8 products?
Thanks,
Kevin

ok i solve it ! :)
For anyone else with this problem, I installed this sql patch (copy paste) in admin/tools:
DELETE FROM configuration WHERE configuration_group_id = 0;
DELETE FROM configuration WHERE configuration_key = '';
then this one:
DELETE FROM configuration WHERE configuration_key LIKE 'GOOGLE_BASE%';
DELETE FROM configuration WHERE configuration_key LIKE 'GOOGLE_FROOGLE%';
then the uninstall.sql patch
then the install.sql patch
And after those 4 steps, the module appears to be installed correctly.
