[OLD] Google Merchant module Version 1.12.0 by Numinix

Hi,

Ive done the install but get the following error when clicking on the Google Feed Option within Tools:-

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache/2.2.22 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.22 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 mod_bwlimited/1.4 Server at looks4u.co.uk Port 80

Does this mean anything to anyone or could it be a number of things?

I've just noticed that when we've been uploading our feed to Google Merahcnt centre, it's not actually showing them in search results. The reason is the shipping. Please does anyone know why it's not adding the shipping to the feed from the following screenshots:

According to all I've been told, the google merchant center feeds are only being used if you are doing adwords. But to fix the shipping I think you can just choose a shipping method there in the merchant center as a default and fix that.

We don't use Google Adwords. Does that mean they will not display our products in Google Products now?

I've fixed the shipping in the Merchant Centre now, so I'll upload the feed again in a few minutes, thank you.

Isn't the Google Adwords only for USA though?

I just found this on Google:
On May 31, 2012, we announced a new initiative to improve our shopping experience over time, so that shoppers (your customers) can easily research purchases, compare different products, their features and prices, and then connect directly with merchants to make their purchase.

As part of this new initiative, called Google Shopping, we transitioned Google Product Search in the US to a commercial model built on Product Listing Ads. This transition was completed on October 17.

We have now announced that Google Shopping is transitioning to a commercial model built on Product Listing Ads in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Brazil, Australia, and Switzerland. The transition of Google Shopping to a commercial experience will be complete in these locales by the end of Q2 2013.

We believe that having a commercial relationship with merchants will encourage them to keep their product information fresh and up to date. Higher quality data — whether it’s accurate prices, the latest offers, or product availability — should mean better shopping results for users, which in turn should create higher quality traffic for merchants.

I also saw that for Canada, there's a different thing and you can only target customers on .ca sites.

They don't make it very clear do they?

I've got the error on the shipping to disappear now, thank you for that. I'm just waiting to see if the products will filter into the searches. Doesn't look like it though. We're UK based, so should't really affect our product feed but I'll give it a couple of hours and see if it propagates.

UPDATE: Google Products is starting to propagate now.... Nowhere near all our products are showing but at least some are there now.... give it time and I'm sure they'll all be showing.

Bottomline is that for your products to show in the searches you must have an Adwords account and you must link your feed to an active campaign.. This is already true in the US, and it sounds like they are rolling out the same program worldwide this year..

they are rolling out a paid model to other regions in 2013.. So it won't be JUST the USA for long..
