Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
I am new to all of this and am finding this post to be very helpful so thank you to everyone who has asked a question, received an answer and replied back letting us all know what options worked and which ones didn't... And of course, thank you to everyone who answered these questions with possible options to resolving the noted issues...
I have a question and it is regarding the image. I have yet to set-up any GCs but I'm sure I will at some point before launching my shop next month. I also do not know how to set up a dummy account or demo version of my shop to really test these things...
Anyway, to my question: When a customer purchases a GC from my shop do they actually receive a GC image or just text information? I sent a GC that I purchased for a friend on another site and had to wait for it to be approved and emailed to me before I could email it to him. I received a PDF file of a GC with a code built into it... The code was the number needed to shop at the site... Are the GCs from Zen Cart the same or are they just text/code with text information?
Thank you...
P.S. My site is not connected to a payment gateway yet, so with this said, can I test the shopping cart/GCs right now without causing myself any real grief? It's uploaded to my server at this time...
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Zen Cart allows GVs to be either automatic or by approval ...
Personally ... I prefer to approve all GV purchases ...
Then, when you approve a GV an email is sent with the code ... no there is not fancy image of the GV with that email ... you could code something for this, but there is nothing built in for this to happen ...
Once the GV code is received either the person who got the email can claim it or they could give the code to someone else ... first person to claim it wins ...
Or, they can claim it, then later decide to send it to someone else ...
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Holy cow, that is the fastest reply I have ever received on a forum! Bravo y Brava!
Is this something I can test without being attached to a payment gateway? And does it matter that I am already loaded onto my server? I am very interested in expirementing with the GC's... Seems like a perfect function for my shop...
Thanks again to all...

Gift Certificates really don't have a lot to do with Payment Gateways other than how are they purchased ...
You can experiment with them using Check/Money Order moneyorder or Credit Cart cc ...

If you don't have the Gift Certificate installed in the Modules ... Order Totals ... click on Gift Certificates ot_gv and click Remove ...
Voila ... it's gone!
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Either setting this up was the easiest "project" I've come across yet with setting up a Zen Cart, or I have been learning a lot the past few weeks, so it just seems easy! Works great!
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Hi - I managed to setup GIft Certs no problem and I operate them in the same way as Linda i.e. one product of £1 and buy as many as you want .... however I have one problem - I don't get a Redemption Code in any of the emails that are sent out and I can't find them in the Admin area either to send it out manually .... I can get it to work without them (i.e. I can redemm them OK) but I would like to issue Redemption Codes if possible.

I really like this option. I haven't completely set up the gift certificates yet, but have a question. If I set it up this way, and say a person buys 25 $1 increments, for a total of $25. Will there be 25 redemption codes or will it just be one code?
Forgive me if this is covered elsewhere, I am really new here.
