Re: Image Handler 2 Support
I right click the image and choose view image to have it actually open the image in the window showing the path it is getting it from
I think you can safely remove the images you have in the large and medium folders since ih does not use them, it only uses the ones in the images and images/subfolders
I know it is frustrating when trying to find out why the items do not work like we think they should -- when we install them. been there and done that and still do that at times.

OK...after reading everything included a big chuck of this forum over the last couple of day, I still fail to see the files coming from my bmz cache EXCEPT for the last product which I input trying to use IH. check it out on my website Is this correct?
Will I not have to just leave the old files as they were? jpg _MED.jpg and _LRG.jpg? If it would help to make my website faster I would consider changing them. How would I do this?

with image handler there is no need for the MED or LRG images anymore cause IH will take care of the naming when resizing.
Did you look inside the bmz_cache folder to see if there are ANY other folders living in there...if so then delete them, maybe that will make IH take over.
In the main cache folder are there any files in there? Maybe the store sent you an error message in there.
your images that you have in the store...are they are small ones, when I clicked on the stick horse the lightbox showed a tiny image. IH2 you upload the largest size you want and it takes care of the rest. It also does not seem to show the popup on all your images like on the products page where your category images are...some have the hover and others do not so maybe the settings area is off too.
you may have to have someone come in to your server files and store backend to see what's up

1. No more than an hour i uninstalled (the correct way through admin etc) and deleted the bmz file (and others), so whatever is in there right now which are directories from 1-9 and a to f, with a big bunch of files in them has come since I did a new install.
2. I checked my cache as well and the latest log was 2 weeks ago, before I even downloaded IH
3. Yes it's going to be wonderful to be able to use IH and not do the 3 versions. Yes I noticed in my category list images they were acting kind of weird, but I've been concentrating so much on the product list page and they seem to be working fine.
So as to my lquestions unanswered from my last post...
1. IH is supposed to "find" my large images that I have stored and use them automatically? Right...
2) since I can't seem to IH to accept my files, can I just leave them alone and continue on with IH from this day forth? Will that do something to my website as far as time outs etc.
3. Should I physically do something (like move a bunch of larger images to somewhere to kick start this?
4. The part I don't understand is how I'm going to figure out what all these pictures are if something goes wrong...they are just a bunch of letters instead of a name I can understand.
So the one image I did ...was it correct?
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
This has been posted in different forms on this support thread.. So let me post it again..
If you have an existing store and install Image Handler on top of an existing store with existing images, 98% of the time the most common reason for issues with IH2 has EVERYTHING to do with 1 of 3 issues:
- Image Handler is not installed/configured correctly
- Your existing images are not in the right places for Image Handler to properly create your medium and small images
- Images are named improperly
As it is stated in the README file, Image Handler takes your LARGEST image and creates all 3 image sizes used by Zen Cart (based on your image configuration settings)
Quote:
Image Handler 3 generates product images (based on your image settings) in the Image Handler 3 bmz_cache folder. It DOES NOT replace or modify the original images. So it's PERFECTLY safe to use on an existing store.
Image Handler 3 enables you to use GD libraries or ImageMagick (if installed on your server) to generate and resize small, medium and large images on the fly on page request. You can simply upload just one image
Because Image Handler generates the large, medium and small images (in the bmz_cache folder) your original image is left intact.
Therefore you need to upload your LARGEST image to the store's "image" folder. You DO NOT NEED the jpg _MED.jpg and _LRG.jpg files after that.
and again this is why I suggested using the IH3 README since it is better written than the IH2 readme file.. READ IT IN FULL.. If you follow the configuration instructions, it WILL help you configure IH2 correctly..

Yes..
It will "find" your images when you actually have your images in the right locations..
Upload the LARGEST PRODUCT or CATEGORY IMAGE to the "images" folder and GET RID OF THE "images/medium" & the "images/large" files.. (this is covered in the IH3 readme -- which I have suggested you review -- The IH3 readme is a LOT clearer than the IH2 readme -- use it so that configuration of IH2 will be easier for you..)

I will try to follow to the letter...ha ha ha!
Believe it or not I'm not a quick fix kind of person...
Just to let you know I see nothing on the bottom when I hover over an image..
Also I checked my bmz_cache file and it's full of images.
My images are in my website name/images then images/large and images/medium.
Thank you...
Get rid of these folders.. they are not needed.. Put the LARGEST image in the /images folder and that's IT...
Re: Image Handler 2 Support
yes delete the images from the LRG and MED folder they are not needed
as for finding out what the image is...that is what the control center (admin?tools?IH2) is for, go there, find the product in the listing then it will tell you the name of the image.
the one you see when you hover is the generic name in the bmz_cache fodler only...this is so it loads quicker and not the original image.
when uploading your images try naming them like the product without spaces in the name or special characters....like serenity.jpg or serenityprayer.jpg
that way you will be able to find it in the images folder should you need to as well as keep a copy of them on your computer for if it should get corrupted you can then reupload it.

You don't need to understand the names of the files created by IH2.. In fact knowing the names IH2 assigns to images is not needed at all for troubleshooting purposes.. You only need to pay attention to the names you assign to the original image files you upload and where you upload them.

Perhaps there is a language barrier of something, but I've read and re-read those pages you claim that I never have read yet:smile:
To me when you say "
Therefore you need to upload your LARGEST image to the store's "image" folder. " It is not explained very well at all. Yes I have an image folder (which holds the small med and large...which apparently wont' be needed any more and of which I'm glad), but it does not say what to do with them...I've put a new directory under my images directory called imagesihnew...which is where I see my newest and only product image) since trying to use IH2, but it isn't explained (in my opinion) well enough to make me feel comfortable about moving things around in my store (with over 900 products) without "really" knowing what I'm supposed to do.
So let me see if I understand (and thanks for your patience again)
I just need to take all my "large images" from my images/large folder and put them all in my new imagesihnew directory and they will pop up in the right places? ...which will make the mbz get to work and store my others sizes (as specified in the admin/images?
