Can anyone help me with a problem? I know this thread has been quiet and I can see why. Save for later has been working a treat on my test store but I encountered a problem that I am unable to rectify.
I can not seem to get the search function to work in this particular situation.
Add an item to cart.
Save item for later.
Now you have 0 items in cart and 1 item saved for later.
Try searching for anything using the search function in the search banner. (not header search)
I get a website waiting for reply followed by nothing. No searches work.
Searches do work however......
1. Using the search banner on the top header.
2. Attempting a search if there are items saved for later and items present in your cart.
3. Attempting a search if there are no items saved for later and items present in your cart.
4. Attempting a search if there are no items saved for later and no items present in your cart.
Can anyone offer any explanation on how I might resolve this?
I am running 1.3.9h with default installs. Items were copied directly over writing previous files as there are no other customization's to merge.
I hope others are able to recreate my issue so I may have peace of mind that I didn't wreck my fresh install using my first mod. LOL!
Thank you very much!
What is the search banner - the search sidebox? The search page?
Sorry, searches work when using the sideboxes/search_header.php in layout boxes controller in any instance.
Searches do not work when using the function from sideboxes/search.php in layout boxes controller.
They only don't work when you have items saved for later and 0 items in the cart. The searches work in all other instances.
Thank you.
To test my theory try adding an item to the cart. next click save for later, now search using the search box that is wherever you defined it to be in tools->layout boxes controller->sideboxes/search.php
for me, the settings for this function are...
sideboxes/search.php ON RIGHT 10 0 OFF
If you have 0 items in cart and items saved for later the search breaks.
I'm stumped because while the search sidebox will break in this instance, I can still perform the same search successfully if I input the search terms in the search field that is in the header as defined in sideboxes/search_header.php
Thanks!
I can't dup this.
Ok, Thank you very much Swguy for looking into the issue for me. I greatly appreciate your time and effort. :)
I'll create a second stock cart and go step by step through my same process again and see if I can find out where I went wrong etc. If I can isolate exactly what i'm doing wrong i'll make note not to do that and share the information with you and others. :smartalec:
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if there is the facility within this mod to see which customers have saved items for later? This would be really useful as an incentive could then be emailed to them to get them to purchase those items.
Any help, gratefully received! :)
I have not done this, and wouldn't recommend it. Most people would call that kind of unsolicited email "spam."
I disagree <sort of>, depending on the verbage within the email, the frequency, etc.
Go search around on amazon or Tiger Direct for a few different items, you will get a very targeted email within a day or two from them (if you are customer).
I think it is in the same vein as trying to recover from shopping cart abandonment, hey we noticed you added something to your cart, blah blah blah. One time, don't pester/spam them, etc. Its just a gentle reminder. Currently have over 10% abandoned cart recovery and the recipients don't seem to mind, in addition I have received great feedback due to what is contained in the email. ie shipping was too high, found it cheaper, etc. etc. and it allows me to adjust certain products as needed, if possible.
I have seen this 'feature' over used though. One site sent me an email about an item in my cart about every other day for a month. (they did not have a 'wishlist' feature) Annoyed me enough to purge my cart and NOT purchase from them.
