I am not very good at any of this, but I am trying.
I have installed easy populate and the following messages have occured: http://shadycreekonline.com/zcart/ad...ns/warning.gif EASYPOPULATE_MSGSTACK_INSTALL_KEYS_FAILhttp://shadycreekonline.com/zcart/ad...ns/warning.gif EASYPOPULATE_MSGSTACK_TEMP_FOLDER_MISSINGhttp://shadycreekonline.com/zcart/ad...ns/warning.gif EASYPOPULATE_MSGSTACK_INSTALL_CHMOD_FAIL
I thought the first error was because I needed to type the ?langer=install in browser (step five install)
I put the temp folder in the same line as zcart/admin... so it is currently zcart/temp should this be somewhere else?
Any help is appreciated. It is almost 3 am here and would really like to fix this before I crash...
Thank you in advance
No suggestions on this one people... I have spent hours searching google and the others trying to at least find a clue on how to fix this.. I can't find jack
the site is being hosted on a windows sever... I wondering is there a way I can edit easy populate meself and add a rotuine to append the admin id to all the links and function in easy populate...
Thanx...
I have reinstalled and now I have an error that the uploads folder can't be found. Hmmm...did I make progress or go backwards? Maybe I'll try to configure....Any tips anyone?
Thank You
Nevermind...I clicked the link in the top message and it now says it is installed successfully and ready to download. Crossing my fingers it downloads ok. Sorry, I'm and idiot people, I'm just always sure I've done something wrong.
:)
hi
I would like to purchase your advanced EP on your site. the problem is that I still didn't get any answer to my problem.
I repeat my problem again, may be there is a solution:
when I used standard EP, I could export file to an excell file. I use two language shop, so, for english fonts, in importing of the edited file on excel, I didn't have problem.
The problem begon when I had to edit some product description, name etc from the arabic, persian, etc. languages, even although my mysql charset states on urf8, when I upload my file by EP, all these edited words has been shown in meaningsless letters.
I don't know where can be the problem, and where can I change something to get it work and so I forgot using this powerful module.
I have set charset of my pages to utf-8 also my tables, so my admin and my front shop show the fonts correct.
thanks
I am having the same problem that Doodlebuckets had on 5/29. I didn't see a solution posted.
I tried to upload an EP file of 4 items with an existing Category that was already in my catalog. Yet, when I tried to upload I got this on all 4 items:
SKIPPED! - Model: Llsfre - No category provided for this new product
I tried reentering the Category name. I even tried copying and pastingit from Admin. Stilll no luck. How do I get past this problem?
www.rabbitinmyhat.com
Thanks
johnd - Looks like your file format is not correct, the easiest way to check your format is download a complete file and look at the format. Then compare the two files and you should see your mistake  When you feel the format is correct upload one product (your must have the header row )and go from there.
Thanks for the reply Scrat.
I did more research overnight. I think I might be running into the quotation mark issue. My descriptions contain HTML with double quotes throughout. The actual text contains single quotes for thing like "the child's imagination".
I'm going to go through and remove the single quotes by changing all of the 'child's' type statements into 'of the child' and set the text delimiter to to the single quote when I save the file.
I'll let you know how it works out.
Well, the quotation marks won. I couldn't get past them, so I uploaded without the descriptions. (I did put one word in just in case I got blocked by EP.) Then I entered the descriptions manually. Thank goodness there were only 4 products.
I'll enter a new post for my next issue -- images.
Hi,
Does anybody know of a way to add a field so that you can also upload MAP Prices with you product upload?
Thanks
Doug:wacko:
I have loaded
Products: 421
Products deactivated: 12
However when you look at all the products that are only 112 listed as active. Is there a setting that I missed? Also all the pictures are there for the 421 items, the ones that are not active show as item not available when clicked on. I am using EP_v2_74_MS2_1 version of Easy Populate.
Is there any progress with downloading and uploading products with Attributes yet?
I've read posts until I'm cross-eyed and can't find an answer. I do know that I'm not the first to have this problem.
Everything seems to show up ok in admin but everytime I try to import or export I get kicked back to admin login screen.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Please
I have installed EP v1.2.5.4 successfully ( it said) on zen v1.3.7.
:cry:PROBLEM #1: I already had 400+ items that I had input manually. To determine the correct format for EP, I created a "full" EP file of these 400+ and downloaded to my pc. When I attempted to open it in excel, this msg pops up:
http://shabbychiccottage.com/images/excel-1.jpg
and if I click OK, this is what I see. Looks like everything in one cell?
http://shabbychiccottage.com/images/excel-2.jpg
so I am unable to even see the column format to start adding new items.
NOTE: None of these 400+ items have a manufacturer stated. The ones I will be adding will have a mfg. So I think I have to put a mfg for the "old" 400+ items.........yes? (that is, after I am able to open the file with excel and see the columns correctly)
PROBLEM #2: In admin>tools>easypopulate this msg appears at the top:
5 partially deleted product(s) found! Delete this dross to prevent unwanted zencart behaviour by clicking here.
You are seeing this because there are references in tables to a product that no longer exists, which is usually caused by an incomplete product deletion. This can cause Zen Cart to misbehave in certain circumstances.
If I click "here" to delete it gives the msg of:
Warning Deleting of product data debris failed! Please see the debug log in your uploads directory for further information.
The debug logs says:
Product debris corresponding to the following product_id(s) cannot be deleted by EasyPopulate:
455:7fc7de0c9edee6e9f541cdd9259e61ce
4:b0b969649d53ac67d3ae46c0851abc32

515:e9558216cfcd290e33811fd3b84ffb02
It is recommended that you delete this corrupted data using phpMyAdmin.
Now being a complete novice at phpMyAdmin, I bravely went to see if I could find the above jIbberish. I looked under "product" and could find nothing like this. Where am I supposed to find this debris? Anyone know?
many thanks in advance,
Shirley

Hi,
I am having a problem with importing some data from my supplier.
I have setup the tab delimited file as per the template exported from my database. The categories are created in Zen Cart admin.
There are only 14 products as this is a test run. When I attempt to import the 14 products only 3 are actually imported. Here is the output:

Please disregard previous post, I was able to resolve this by placing unique values for the v_products_model column.

In ref to post #819, I resolved PROBLEM #2. Found a place in phpMyAdmin that would let me search and found the 5 problem children and got rid of them by deleting.
For PROBLEM #1, I still need help. As stated before, I already had products in my database before attempting to use EP.
In admin>tools>easypopulate
when I create a "full" file of those 400+ products to download to my pc in order to edit, it is not giving the product url in the info it creates. Why not? Why is it putting all the data in one cell? What do I need to do to make EP work correctly? Is EP not able to correctly read products that were already on the database before EP was installed? Is that the problem? Do I just use the headers in that file that I created as my guide?
any help is appreciated..........
Shirley
I am having the same problem and still searching for an answer. Sorry for posting again but I'm getting desperate. I was thinking about buy EP advanced but afraid it won't do any better for me. It seems everyone is having as many problems with advanced as they are with stardard.
There just don't seem to be answers for problems. Believe me, I search the forums every night.
Thanks in advance if anyone reads my plea for help.
Well, I ended up uninstalling EP. Without tips, clues, hints or support the mod is useless to me.
Perhaps someday soon, a really savvy person will pick this mod up and make it work right. I do not know enough to do so, so will move on.
Hello
When I try to upload a file to EP I receive this error message

Any ideas what Ive done wrong please?
I have ezpopulate installed but it doesn't update my store. I see them going into my tmp folder. . . any ideas?
Ok, I've used Easy Populate 1.2.5.4 before (about a year ago now) and everything work. Either it's not working now or I've forgotton how to use it.
Here's what I'm doing...
1 - From admin click on tools>easy populate.
2 - Click on Download Complete tab-delimited .txt file to edit (Attributes Not Included).
3 - Import this file into Excel and make changes to various records.
4 - Export the file from Excel (making sure it's still in Tab Delimited format.
5 - Back to easy populate... On Upload EP File click on Browse and select my file (the one I exported from Excel).
6 - Click on Insert into db.
The file is then uploaded and (I presume) changes made to the database.
Here is the output from Easy Populate:
Upload Results
File uploaded.
Temporary filename: C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\phpA11.tmp
User filename: import.txt
Size: 721949
Upload Complete
Now, I remember (from past experience) that Easy Populate should output more information than this if it's been successful.
Am I doing something wrong?
Maybe the value of the v_status column in my EP file has to be changed.
I was getting the same thing until I changed the permissions on the temp folder to 777; at least i think it was the temp folder. I've got one of those summer colds and down south we use a Jack Daniels Toddy to make it all better, between that and the nyquil i might be off. But I'm pretty sure that's what I had to do.
Thanks for the quick reply. I've tried editing the permissions on that folder, but had no luck.
Are you running IIS 6.0 (or any version of IIS)? If so, which user account(s) did you change the permissions on?
When I installed 2.5.4, it disabled my sales maker and specials in my admin. Can this be fixed? Thanks!
I have uploaded 1000's of products to my store using ep. One thing I would like to see is the ability to upload MAP prices also. Anybody hve any idea if this will come available. thanks
I'm getting this MySQL error when trying to install Easy Populate:
1264 Out of range value adjusted for column 'configuration_group_id' at row 1
in:
[INSERT INTO store_configuration_group VALUES ('', 'Easy Populate', 'Config options for Easy Populate', '1', '1')]
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.
Help would be oh so much appreciated
Hiltunne
I am using zecart 1.3.7
Is Easy Populate v1.2.5.4 compatable with it or is there a version of easy populate that is compatible with zencart 1.3.7?
So why I read people are looking into excel solution if this works. Just curious?
Well... an Excel solution may be easier (it certinley would be for me) as you would be able to edit you database directly in Excel. This would mean no more downloading a tabbed based EP file and then importing that into Excel and then exporting it from Excel and then uploading it back to EP... you get the idea!
Also, if Excel was to be used you could bring in product data from other tables, create nice graphs and reports and so on.
Yes it sound easier with excel. Is any contribution for Zencart and Excel?
I have another question:
Can I export using EP all products, categories and manufacturers from my local site and then import using EP on the live website?
Any idea if there is any problem doing this?
I know that there's one for osCommerce (it's mentioned in this thread ealier on), but nothing for Zen Cart at the moment.
I am using EP and I get this error:

QM360,
I'm having problems with EP_v1.2.5.4 myself ! Your error message is very familiar !!
Looks as though you (and I) are using this tool to upload products which do not use a 'model' reference. It would appear from comments I've had to my own query, that EP_v1.2.5.4 does NOT support the import into the database of products where no model is defined ! Also, the replies I've received indicate (allegedly?) that even the 'paid' version has its own problems which the developer is trying to solve !
Where do we go from here ? - Sorry, still waiting for guidance - will let you know if I can find out more ! Good luck !
The model field cannot be left blank (as far as I know).
If you think about it, it makes sense. The model number is used like a 'primary key' within a database, a unique identifier if you will. How would Easy Populate know which record to update if you don't supply it with a model number?
The ill fated ver 2.75 would allow the use of the product id as the main key field from an option in configuration. But this version is plagued with problems and not recommended for use if you can still find it.
I believe Langer added product_id as the main key in the paid version that can be selected in the config panel, but I do not know if the product model is still required at some point. Actually, from a developer point of view, the product_id is the correct key to use as it is THE key that zencart uses to link product data between databases. But identifying products from an automatically assigned digit when you are editing data is troublesome.
The product model is not actually needed to run zencart. I don't remember off the top of my head, but i believe zencart has an option to allow only unique product models... but don't take my word for it. Product model is keyed in the database, but this is for searching purposes only. product_id is the key that links the various databases together.
Perhaps Langer or someone familiar with the paid version can verify that you can run EP (paid) without model numbers?
After playing around with the file permissions on my Windows temp folder and then some help from Bjorn I managed to resolve this issue.
And guess what... it has nothing to do with the Windows temp folder at all!
I simply changed the permissions on the temp folder within the root of my website and everything seemed to work! :)
floridalou - Bad version you should version EP_v1.2.5.4
milobloom -What do you mean?Quote:
Is there any progress with downloading and uploading products with Attributes yet?
dnolan - Try a different Browser ( I have the same issue with Firefox but not with SeaMonkey
tolefairy - PROBLEM #1: Make sure you opening the file correctly with Excel
PROBLEM #2: Known Bug see earlier posts in this thread
Also, when I import the file, it creates a category for each manufacturer for some reason.
For instance, I try to import a list of cameras, and it creates a category for every manufacturer with "cameras" as the subcategory.
hyperlite635 - Check your file format, I would think you are missing a field in your .txt file and it is picking yup the next field.
Best way to trouble shoot - download a complete file and compare the two files.
hyperlite635 -
Don't forget you also need EOREOR at the end of every record including the first line header.
Also, when uploading your data be sure to NOT leave important fields blank like the manufacturer, or image. What will sometimes happen is the data from the previous non blank record will be assigned to that blank item (and all blank fields following! - this bugged me up till I figured out what was happening!)
AND, you can remove columns that you do not need to update. Try just updating Models, Categories and Prices.
<sigh> AND also note that you cannot move/del items/categories in the ADMIN area and upload data without getting linked products. Gotta be careful there!
AND AND.... be very careful what you put in the description field. Try to keep it simple! Watch out for quotes and apostrophes... this has driven many an EPer nuts!
Oh yeah, that temp directory must have read/write permissions... 777 safest!
good luck!
If anyone is needing this the install.sql file for the database for MySql 5

Hello folks,
I will see about creating an EP FAQ in the future, but not now, I have to get my sites up and going first.
First, to answer a couple questions that keep popping up.
Q. What versions of Easy Populate (EP) are currently available?
A. The stable free version is 1.2.5.4, the buggy free version is 2.75, and the paid version is Easy Populate Advance (EPA) 3.03 - as of this writing on 7/28/07
Q. Can I have EP add product categories for me?
A. The non-commercial versions can, the paid version can not.
Q. Can EP upload special fields?
A. All three can, just that with EPs you have to edit the file, while it seems as if EPA has the support built in.
Q. I have uploaded 15 products, yet only 2 show up. The file looks something similar to this:
Why am I only seeing two items?Quote:
book | book.jpg | First book | ... |EOREOR
book | book.jpg | Second book | ... | EOREOR
...
dvd | dvd.jpg | 1st dvd | ... | EOREOR
dvd | dvd.jpg | 2nd dvd | ... | EOREOR
A. Each row must have a unique product model (i.e., item number), and the end of record EOREOR must be on the end of each row. If you change it from book to book_1, book_2, etc, then EP will insert the items. Failure to do so will have EP insert the first item, book, and then each additional occurrence of book updates the first, same thing with dvd in this example.
Q. After uploading I find only a few records uploaded correctly, and there are a few others with a number of records all in the last field. What happened?
A. Did you remember to place EOREOR on the end of each row/record?
Tip: You may want to turn off "Text delimited with quotes" in both your spreadsheet (i.e., Excel and Open Office Calc) and the database you are using. May I suggest the tide "~" symbol if you must use something as a text delimiter (i.e, you have a few commas , single or double quotes, in your description, and want to preserve them). The tide symbol can be stripped off and out as needed. If, for example, you import a great amount of data using the LOAD DATA INFILE command in MySQL you can use the option FIELDS OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '~' to remove it.
Tip: See the above post for an updated sql script for installing on systems that use MySQL version 5.x
About me: I have used, and modified, version 2.75 in the past. I have downloaded, but not installed, version 1.2.5.4 If people are interested I can download a copy of 2.75 from my site (computer crashed so I don't have a local copy), and post it here. I have been playing with computers for over two decades. I understand some coding, and can do a bad, yet working, hack if I have to, just don't ask me to re-work Zen Cart for your needs  . I will take a fresh look at both EP versions and see what I can do to make them more user friendly, or at least create instructions on how you can do it yourself (a DIY guild if you will). Again, this may not be for a while as I have my daytime job and then my two web sites to worry about.
awev - I would be very interested in a DIY guide to add additional fields eg sort order in Attributes.
I am thinking of a idea to use a Python script to manage the .txt file as I have far too many attributes to use Excel or OO but this is still very early days, and I am currently working on another program for B2B for my work.
That's awkward. Shouldn't the paid version offer MORE features? Is there a workaround or better solution for this on the paid version?
Which files are necessary to edit when you want to do this?
As for a DIY -- maybe we can just have a Wiki or something so everyone can contribute.
Zen Cart already has a wiki :-
http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
But I would agreeQuote:
As for a DIY -- maybe we can just have a Wiki or something so everyone can contribute.
I was actually talking about one specific to EP. Don't think there is one (a good one) out there yet?
I know there's this one:
http://www.modhole.com/modhole/index...N_position=5:5
But it doesn't seem to be very helpful
Just a quick reply, as I am headed out the door to work, and the land of restricted intranet, not internet.
As to why leave out the add products ability in the paid version I do not know, as I am not the developer, yet I have a feeling it has something to do with GPL, so he most likely had to rewrite the code for the program if he is to compile it into a binary form for copyright protection.
As to the wiki, I'll take a look in the next couple days.
The file to be edited would be /Your Store/admin/easypopulate.php and it is mainly a matter of adding definitions and pairing up v.___ = p.___ Careful, there is more to it than just that, yet that is how you get started.
Hi,
If somebody can come up with a way of making EP work with the MAP Price contribution that would be great. I am will to pay somebody if the price is right to make My ep so I can upload my MAP Prices required by my manufacturers. Thanks
Doug
Hi,
I bought Easy Populate Pro a month ago and I have found that the documentation falls short of going all the way. The latest version (4) has a readme file that stops befor telling you how to upload your files, that is organise all your data into the correct columns. Also you have to search to find these templates.
Now I am very keen to use this software as it looks like a great tool to compliment Zen Cart, and I don't want to affend anyone, but the support is very lacking. If I could get the final procedures I would write them up myself and post them here for others to get over that last hurdle!
A lot of others have been able to go all the way with the software so it must be possible for those of us with a little bit of web savy?
So anyone who can go explain the final stages I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks
Official support for this is at the place you purchased this and not on this forum.Quote:

This forum is for those to share their experiences which you are doing but do not confuse this and trash this forum for lack of support.
OK fair enough, I suppose I was just fishing for a solution. As I said I do believe it to be very good software and I am very keen to use it! I apologise as I have a lot of respect for the Zen Cart forum people as they take a lot of time out to help people like myself.
Whe I find a solution I will post it if others want.
Thanks
Hi,
I am really struggling to get my online shop to function correctly and would appreciate it if anyone could help.
Firstly when I upload product and I go into the category to check them I get the first layer i.e Suspension Technology then Spax then lowering springs then make of car then model then when i click on the last level instead of getting the product details i get a drop down menu with a,b,c,d etc
I am also unable to view my products in the admin section Catalogue>catagories/products. I just get a blank page.
Also when I uploaded my last products I got the following message
Warning: explode() [function.explode]: Empty delimiter. in /home/jiperfor/public_html/store/admin/includes/functions/extra_functions/easypopulate_functions.php on line 241
and aswell as uploading the products correctly it also uploaded some of them as a seperate catagory.
if you go on the site you will see what I mean
www.JI-Performance.com
The product I uploaded was in Suspension Technology>Spax>Lowering Springs>etc
It also, however loaded up a top lever of Spax>Suspension Technology>spax>Lowering Springs> then the listing for one manufacturer but when you try to select and of the products you get the drop down menu as described previously.
If anyone could have a look at the site for me I would greatly appreciate it as its getting to the point where I just cant do anything with it
The explode error means that when it read the file in it did so as a big blob, and now it is trying to separate the different parts. It is finding something wrong, maybe you used something like ""Q's" gadgets" in the file, and it is seeing double quotes, and strips of the first pair of them, leaving something that looks like Q's" gadget (only one quote mark, not paired up with anything). In any case, it is not able to break the file up into its individual components.
As to the items being hidden in the admin's catalog I seem to recall that it involves something being set, or not set, in the database. It may be something as simple that the quantity is set to 0 (zero) if you didn't include a quantity in the upload. Sorry, I last had that problem near the first part of the year, and can't recall what I did to correct it, other than use a database tool to reset the value. It may also be the date, and how it is formatted.
Just found out about the explode thing in the old forums (available for reading/review only). It seems as the date is not formated correctly. Have a look at this post: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22180&page=65 This is in response to the prior page (page 64) of the old forums, encountering the same problem.
In Admin > Configuration > Easy Populate -> Make Zero Products Inactive, is that showing as true or false?
I have been using EP with success to upload products in batches of around 400 at a time. Best tips I can give are:
1) Product must have a model number.
2) Model number must be unique.
3) Category name must match existing ZC category name EXACTLY.
4) NO line breaks in product description +
5) EOREOR must be at end of every record.
6) Export as plain text file (.txt).
7) Export settings should be:
* TAB delimited.
* Text qualifier = NONE.
* Include field headings as first row.
If you view the exported file in Notepad there should be no visible delimit between records. I find I can use quotes, commas and slashes in product titles.
8) If you don't have a 'temp' folder in ZC root, create one and CHMOD 777.
9) In Configuration/Easy Populate:
* Make sure temp folder path is correct
* Set date format to d-m-y for UK, or as appropriate.
+ Although EP should handle line breaks in the product description, I had a problem with this. I don't know why. If you have issues, might be something to check.
I confess I haven't downloaded, edited and re-uploaded any data yet.
Thanks for the replys. I really appreciate it. I'll give it a go today. There are a few of the points which I dont fully understand being new to this as it wasnt myself who designed and built the site.
Could it be anything to do with the fact that I have / in some of my product catagories?
i.e
http://www.jiperformance.com/store/i...85_22390_22399
apart from that im not sure what is meant by

Hi,
I installed easy populate standard a few days ago and I just have a few quick question if anyone could answer them for me please.
1. if I enter a catagory in the excel spreadsheet that does not exist in my store will that catagory be automatically created when the file is uploaded?
2. Is there anything to stop me from adding attribute columns to the main spreadsheet so that I can insert products and the relevant attributes all from the same file?
3. Regarding the attributes, is there anyway to set the attribute flags from the spreadsheet so if its a required text attribute for example I can set it in the spreadsheet rather than having to go into attribute controller and change them?
Thanks
Phil
Phil,
EP is not an extensible tool but does what it does well, Follow these steps and if you have created and set the permissions correctly for the itmes in the install instructions you will get a file downloaded that contains what it is that you can use this for.

EP does not do attributes.... and one can not add or extend it for reasons that I am not sure of having not disected the code.
Attributes have many many cross entries and are best handled via admin
Anybody working on easy populate. I need it to be able to upload my map prices to my products. If someone can make this work I would be willing to pay some for it. Thanks

Hello Admcompa,
First, you have to know what table in the database MAP is using, and also what fields you would need to update.
Next, open the easypopulate.php file that is in the admin directory, into a text editor, you don't want to use a word processer if you can help it, they like to add stuff for formatting of the text, etc. If you have anything like HotDog or Crimson Editor you should not have a problem editing things, nor seeing the differant parts of the code (color coding of code is nice ;) ).
If there is a goto command you may want to use that, and tell it to go to line 1280 or so for staters. In the text editor press <ctrl>+F for find. Enter v_ as the string to search for, and you will begin finding a lot of it. You realy don't need the find command if you jump to (goto) line 1280. If you want to set a MAP price of 0 (zero) as a default value, then you would add it to the end of the "$default_these = array( " array as something like 'v_map'. This is where the info you gathered at the start, such as database table and fields come in handy.
Now we use the find command to find '$sql = "SELECT' without the single quotes ('). In the unmodified version it should be around line 1429. Under the line ' subc.catergories_id as v_categories_id' you will want to add ' m.map as v_map', then in the table section add a comma to ' ".TABLE_PRODUCTS_TO_CATEGORIES." as ptoc'. Now add an entry for the table you are using, something like ' ".MAP." as m' This section checks to see if it is a new item, or if you need to update some information.
Press <F3> for the find again command, or whatever your text editor has assigned to the find again/repeat find command. You will be able to search for $sql = "UPDATE and $sql = "INSERT as well. The main thing is to add pairs of values, being left = right, such as database_table_value_1 = file_value_1, and telling it what tables in the database to use. The file has a fair amount of comments, a lot of it is notes from langer to himself, what he probley used to re-write the code for EPA 3.x - the commercial version.
Sorry, without spending a day or two creating a DIY or howto, and figuring out everything (maybe rewriting it myself, just not very likely at this point in time), I am limited in what I can provide insctrution wise here. Since we are mainly concerned about uploading product info in batches, enmass, we are looking at the upload section. The download area is probley best left alone for now, and the froogle section is dated, and handled by other modules now days.
For all of those interested, line 1806 of the unmodified code, version 1.2.5.4, is the start of adding categories to the store :D
Images not displaying after upload of EP.
I uploaded about 50 items today and most of the images didn't display on the site.
Here is my process:
Is this EP shortcoming?
- uploaded all images to store/images
- created my EP spreadsheet using filenames that I uploaded
- uploaded my EP spreadsheet
- admin message indicated all items uploaded successfully
- opened store to view the products that were uploaded
- less than half had images
- I checked to make sure that the case was correct on filenames
- went to admin-->catalog-->cat/prod-->product; all products had correct image filenames
- so, I had to use admin to load images to products individually
Thanks
Hello JohnD,
No, it is not. EP does check to see if you have the images where you claim they are, and if it doesn't find the image then it uses a flag to tell itself to leave the image field blank, and then Zen Cart uses it's default of No Image image.
In my case I was trying to upload the file before I had the images in the proper directory, in my case, /images/wop/All, and so it wasn't seeing them. The race was on then to see if I could finish uploading all of the images before I finished feeding it the differant files.
I was able to execute a SQL command from the MySQL patch tool in the admin area to take the item name and create the entry for the image location. It was
'UPDATE zen_products SET products_image=CONCAT('wop/All/', products_image, '.jpg') WHERE products_image='noimage.gif'
This saved me a lot of time from the manual entry (only because it was taking too long - I did start out doing it that way). And please note I left out the '/store location/image/' part, as Zen Cart always expects to find images there for products, and so will supple the parent directories when retriving the images.
As to why your images did not appear I can only guess. The first thing is that windoze is not case sensitive, while *nixes are. Next would be the extention, gif, jpg, pnp, tif, etc. Gif is not the same as jpg, and yet in my case I have both image types for the item. If I had the hard disk space on my host's systems then I would use the gif for the small image and jpg for regular and large, yet that may prove to be a problem in that the extentions are differant. The final thing is you could of tried to refresh the page, or clear the browser's cache.
On some sites where I post auction listings, and use a bulk upload tool, it takes a while for them to create thumb nails from my images to display next to the listing, in the general area, yet if someone clicks on the listing they see the actual picture I uploaded. Zen Cart should be better, yet that may be happening as well. And once the thumb nail (or small image if you will) is created Zen Cart can cache them for the most popular listings.
Hope I shed some insight onto the matter for you, and maybe helped you figure out what may of been happening.
Hi,
I need urgent support for Easy Populate Standard. I am currently setting up a shop front for a Printing company using Zen Cart. The company have four main print sizes.
I need to find a way of creating bulk quantity discount for each of these print sizes.
The first print size retails at $7.50 for the first print and 50 cents for each additional prints. An easy calculation of $7.50 + (Quantity * 0.5).
The second print size $10 for the first print and $2 for each additional prints.
The third print size $12.50 for the first print and $4 for each additional prints.
The fourth print size $12.50 for the first print and $5 for each additional prints.
I have investigated how I could configure categories with specific quantity discount but this has not worked. I am hoping to get advice about how I can modify PHP codes if necessary or use Easy Populate to achieve this.
Thank you in advance
Jules

Hi all, I have written a tutorial explaining the steps and processes involved with importing Attributes using easy populate - I hope it helps.
If there are miss understanding on my part leading to errors please forgive me, correct me then sue me ;)
- on that not I would like to say, BACKUP! then BACKUP AGAIN! any loss of data remains your loss NOT mine - I accept no liability whatsoever for any damage, harm or act of god resulting from you following this tutorial (Phew - close one)....
- ...Also, for a pretty version with tabular examples CLICK HERE
HOW TO: prepare and import an Attribute file using easy populate...
Login in to the backend of your website.
You should ensure that all options and attributes that may be used by any of the products you wish to import, have been created and are correct.
Select from the top menu: tools > Easy Populate
From the right column under Data Files, select Attributes - this will export the current attribute data from your site.
Select Save from the newly created attributes row within the table to save the attributes file to your computer.
You now have a popup window asking you to open/save the file… Save this file to a location on your computer then import this file into Excel (or equivalent) as a tab delimited file.
Reading and understanding the file format, row & columns….
Note: Within the new excel worksheet you will now see a set of headers on the first row (these should never be altered). Each subsequent row is the attribute details of a single product.
For each row, the columns read as follows…
PRODUCTS….
v_products_id = The products ID number... e.g: 375
v_products_model = The products Model number... e.g: 123987
The first two columns v_products_id & v_products_model identify the product you wish to add the attributes to. These columns are the products ID and the products model number.
The product ID is required, the model number is not – however it is a safeguard and should be included where possible.
The following columns may be described as a horizontal list of options and their attributes. An option may have many attributes just like a Size option may have ‘small’, ‘medium’ and ‘large’ attributes.
There are three basics you will need to understand regarding the rest of the columns to understand this tutorial… ‘Option types’, ‘Attributes’ and ‘Option-Attribute Sets’
‘Option types’ are Size, Colour or Weight etc.
‘Attributes’ are the values available for each ‘Option-type’ such as ‘Red’, ’Green’, ’Blue’ or ‘100kg’, ‘500kg’, ‘1 Tonne’ etc.
‘Option-Attribute Sets’ are ALL columns that relate to a single Option + Attribute and share a common suffixed ID within the column name.
With that cleared up, let’s move on….
The column headers are variable and as such I can not give column ID’s from here on but rather detail the requirements for each ‘column type’ and its purpose so read carefully…
NOTE: For every ‘option type’ there must be at least one attribute and for every set of attributes there must be an option type given.
OPTIONS….
The ‘v_attribute_options_id_1’ and ‘v_attribute_options_name_1_en’ columns identify the type of option you wish to add to a product such as Size, or Colour etc. These should have already been created within the backend of your store and are case sensitive.
NOTE: Should you require a NEW option name for your import you will need to first ADD the name in the backend via the top menu > catalog > ‘option name manager’ then use the new name and newly assigned ID
NOTE: the suffixed number is an identifier for the ‘Option-Attribute set’. An ‘Option-Attribute set’ is an ‘Option type’ + all the Attributes for that Option. A row may have as many Option-Attribute sets as desired and may occupy any amount of columns but ALL must follow the rule noted above.
So what do these Options columns mean?
v_attribute_options_id_1 = The ID of the option type... e.g: 1
v_attribute_options_name_1_en = The name of the Option type... e.g: Size
ATTRIBUTES….
The following three columns are required for EVERY Attribute. These three columns are repeated along the row for each attribute product requires.. e.g. one set of three for each colour of a particular product you have… Three columns for Red, three for Green, three for Blue and three for Yellow etc.
Product 1 : Attribute 1 (colour RED) =
v_attribute_values_id_1_1
v_attribute_values_price_1_1
v_attribute_values_name_1_1_en
Product 1: Attribute 2 (Colour BLUE) =
v_attribute_values_id_1_2
v_attribute_values_price_1_2
v_attribute_values_name_1_2_en
… etc
The repetition of ‘Option Type’ followed its ‘Attributes’ as ‘Option-Attribute Sets’ should be maintained until the final ‘Option-Attribute Set’ required has been included.
The final column of any row must be EOREOR this tells the program that it is the ‘End Of Row’ and that the new product will listed next.
So what do these attribute columns mean?
v_attribute_values_id_1_1 = This is the ID of the attribute... e.g: 5
v_attribute_values_price_1_1 = This is the Price of the attribute... e.g: 9.99
v_attribute_options_name_1_en = This is the Name of the attribute... e.g: 1kg
NOTE: The price value is excluding tax and defaults to a + value. i.e. the product price PLUS this attribute price.
VALUES…
The values required for these columns can be found in a number of places and a small amount of backend preparation will save to time in creating your file.
Where do I find the values required for all my rows?...
v_products_id (database table: products.products_id)
• This number is found as the ID (first) column when listing the product in the backend
• By hovering over the image or title/name of the product within the frontend
• By exporting the store from easy populate and reading the number given in the v_products_id column of the row for your chosen product
v_products_model products.products_model • This number is found as the ‘Model’ (third) column when listing the product in the backend
• By reading the Product/Model Code: xxxx within the frontend
• By exporting the store from easy populate and reading the number given in the v_products_model column of the row for your chosen product
v_attribute_options_id_1 (database table: products_attributes.options_id)
• This number is found as the ID (first) column when viewing the ‘option name manager’ in the backend. (top menu > catalog > option name manager)
v_attribute_options_name_1_en (database table: products_options_values. products_options_values_name)
• This number is found as the ‘Option Name’ (second) column when viewing the ‘option name manager’ in the backend. (top menu > catalog > option name manager)
v_attribute_values_id_1_1 (database table: products_options_values.products_options_values_id)
• This number is found as the ID (first) column when viewing the ‘option value manager’ in the backend. (top menu > catalog > option value manager)
v_attribute_values_price_1_1 (database table: products_attributes.options_values_price )
• This number is found as the fourth column when viewing the selected product within the ‘Attributes controller’ in the backend. (top menu > catalog > Attributes Controller.. Select category… select product… click [Display] button)
v_attribute_values_name_1_1_en (database table: products_options_values.products_options_values_name)
• This number is found as the Option Value (third) column when viewing the ‘option value manager’ in the backend. (top menu > catalog > option value manager)
Now save the file as a TAB DELIMITED FILE from Excel (or equivalent) ready for importing.
The import process is almost the same as export as you are required to log in to the backend then via: Top menu > Tools > Easy populate you should select the [Browse] button > search for the file you have just saved then click the Import and wait for the success or failure message on completion of the file processing – it will appear just below the top menu.
If all is well, go check your products with there new shiny attributes. If all is NOT well read the accompanying error messages and figure out where these instructions are deficient then let me know where I went wrong
Hope it helps - and if there are mistakes please post them so I may make the corrections (and understand it better :dontgetit )

Hi everybody above - Repete Post...
I have been using EP 1.2.5.4 now for two weeks and can only get the Full Download/Full upload to work.
The Download of the following returns a notice in Excel of "Incomplete Download". Thus these portions do not work for me.
Model/Price/Quanity
Model/Category
Model/Attributes
Those three downloads have incorrect data. Example: The Attributes when downloaded show up as every item has the same attribute as the very first item I added. Therefore I cannot upload any attributes this way. With 6300+ products it's taking a LONG time to put in these attributes. Some products have up to 60 attributes.
I reinstalled the EP and same result.
Help would be appreciated...
Thanks
SPH & elkbow - I had a problem but that I could not download my attribute file at all it just hung.
Have you tried to save to temp file and then download via FTP. Mine was a hosting problem!
How to do include the legend for my product attributes. For example, I want to enable "required" for all my size options and enable "display" for my select option. I setup 5 products with this option, then exported the .txt file to excel, but the changes did not show in the spreadsheet.
How can I resolve?
Your help is appreciated! Thanks!
james739 - Sorry I don't really understand what you are asking for ?
I see you have shoes sizes are you asking to show all the sizes available ? in the attributes upload file.
If so you need to put a '0' or '+1.00' etc in the attribute column you require for it show in the product.
We can download okay from EP. It's just that Xcel and Open Office spreadsheets apparently don't go beyond column IV. We have so many attributes and every attribute seems to appear on each product downloaded.
Haven't tried FTP, but should still have same problem with limits of spreadsheet column number.
SPH - Your problem is that you have too many attributes for OO and Excel the download is fine its the programs you are trying to use to open the file.
You need to use CSVd and uniCSVd
These two programs you can open larger csv files with.
What I mean is I want to set a "required" flag for all my attributes. How can I do this with EZ populate. I modified one of the items in my admin to reflect what i mean, here is the link. When you "add to chart" without selecting a size, the flag is activated telling the customer to select a size.
http://trendsdepot.com/index.php?mai...roducts_id=119
Please tell me if there is a fix for this, doing it one item at a time is too time consuming!
THanks again!
Can easy Populate work somehow with the pricing by attributes mod???
Hello Milo,
If it is a mod that you added then have a look at http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...&postcount=879 and it should be of some help. Granted, it says MAP, yet it applies to any mod that you have added, and want EP to insert info for. A couple replies later another person did an article on attributes, as comes standard with Zen Cart and EP.
Just setting up zencart, way over my head with php, only static html experience, cannot read most posts. So need very basic info.
Have downloaded Easy Populate. Where do I upload the files (i.e., relative to admin folder) so that Easy Populate will appear somewhere in the control panel? Does one upload the .txt files, too?
Step by step instructions aimed at a complete novice would NOT be unwelcome.
Thanks!
I have been looking at Easy Populate as suggested. It looks pretty darn confusing to me. Some people are having problems. Perhaps they are trying to do some fancy stuff.
What happened to me is that I had an inventory management company upload and entire inventory of products to my web site.
One category called Miscellaneous has over 1,000 products. They need to be moved into a category where someone might actually discover them and buy them.
Many products do not have a picture. These I want to inactivate these until I can upload the photos. So for now, I want to move them into a category that will be disabled until I can get to it.
Will Easy Populate help me to see what the photo is, if there is one? I cannot always tell by model number or name what category it would best be in. Also it might be best to be in more than one category. Will it let me link it to other categories?
Will Easy populate help me with those chores? And is it really “Easy”?
This thread has gotten so long, I appologise if my question has already been answered.
After uploading my products, the categories are all there, product images show up in the New Products box, but, when you click on a category, or even an image of a "New Product", I get the "Sorry, product not found" message. If I go to admin-catalog-categories/products, I see all of the cats there, showing how many active products there are supposed to be in each, but, go to the cat and there is nothing.
I've looked in my database via phpMySql, and see where everything is there as it should be, I'm just not able to get the products to show up in my catalog.
Am I missing a switch somewhere?
I'll try to answer as best as I can, in the order I see them listed on my screen.
tenashi:
After downloading EP you un-zip it to a local drive and directory, in my case it is E:\temp on a windoze system, or /home/temp on an *nix system. When you uncompress it keep the file/directory structure. You will see a number of directories (folders), and they will contain files. For me /MY_STORE/whatever is /public_html/zencart/whatever. Using an FTP program just upload the files from the local directory to your Zen Cart directory with the same name. There is not much more to it. And no, you do not need to upload the text files, that is for you to read.
peppyone:
The more fancy you get, and the more customized you want EP, the more chances to encounter problems. My suggestions include setting up a database on your own computer, likeMySQ, and using it to help manage your products, and create the files for EP. After getting the database set up and loaded with the information you could use the following commands:
UPDATE table_name SET v_status = 0 WHERE v_products_image_1 = 'no_image.gif';
UPDATE table_name SET v_categories_1 = 'new_category_name' WHERE v_categories_1 = 'old_categories_name;
*-*-* OR *-*-*-
UPDATE table_name SET v_status = 0, v_categories_1 = 'new_category_name' WHERE v_products_image_1 = 'no_image.gif';
That is the general format based on MySQL, and you would replace the names with what you have chosen. Then expert just what you need so you don't use up more resources than you need to. Open in a spreadsheet, or use a special batch file, and insert the header info that EP needs. (Hint: open a comand prompt in windoze, and use copy file_1.ext + file_2.ext file_3.ext, or in *nix open a terminal and concat the two files into one - this would append the data file you exported to the EP header) In the Zen Cart admin area you would then delete the misc. category after you have things moved.
It may be easier to use the first update command, export the changed files, and instead of setting the status to 0 have it set to 9, so EP can delete the current mess. Delete the now empty category in Zen Cart. Then repeat the update command, this time with the status set to 0, add the new categories, and export, and upload with EP. Status of 0 is disabled, 1 is active, and 9 is delete.
The linking you have to do yourself.
wtashby:
Two things. First, while it is fine to test everything on a dedicated computer that you may have just lying around, most hosting companies restrict how much one user can do at a time on a shared host, so it may take a while for everything to show up from the customer side of things, or Zen Cart may be just slow crunching the info. Next, you may want to flush the cache of your browser and see if that helps any.
Well folks, I hope that helps some. Please let us know how everything goes.
Awev, You have been very helpful and I appreicate your reply. I have followed your instructions for the install of EP and now have the issue of the Uploads directory not being found. I have the the permissions set correctly and I have configured EP to the best of my ability. I have read much on the zentcartbuilder.com forums and it seems this is a common problem.
When I installed zencart I did not install it in a directory i.e. mystore etc. I think this has made a difference when it comes to EP.
I am on a shared hosting server so I can't install "Uploads" to the root directory. So I am feeling very lost. I wanted to do so much this weekend but now all that time is lost while I get an answer to my support ticket.
