Thanks Ryk - an unfortunate business decision made by the store owner, for sure. But, as the designer, I appreciate the complement.
Any thoughts on what might be wrong?
I tried to read every post in this thread. Got alot of em but didn't see this one.
IH2 works fine. Have lightbox as well.
When I change the product info image size to a larger size than 150 x 120 the hovers go away on small images. I had doubled thier size.
Does this change need to be reflected somewhere else?
Hi there, first of all congrats on IH2 module, this should have been a core since its a must for proper image handling.
I have aproblem with images, my customer who is going to use zen-cart is going to upload 1000s of images and i am 100% sure that he is going to upload images with the same file name. was wondering if there is a quick way to make ih2 or zen-cart rename a new image upload if there is an images with the same name. I have not dound this to be an IH feature and this is very helpfull, also someting else which can be done is to rename image filenames to hold the product name. this is going to be very good for search engines.
Anyway to cut the story short is there a way which i can set IH2 or zen-cart to rename a new image file name upload if there is an image with the same name?
Hello again,
We'd like to offer a small token of appreciation to anyone who can help us out with this problem. A $25 gift certificate to either our store (www.thetoyboat.com) or Amazon.com - whichever you prefer! As I said earlier, we're really desperate - our homepage is in shambles. And while Ryk was absolutely correct - we did remove the references to Zen Cart - please understand that it was a decision that was beyond the control of the people begging for help here. We are entirely grateful to this community and for the hard work and dedication of everyone who developed the software.
Help us Obi-Wan... you're our only hope...
Tim
First off, the very nature of electronic filing renders your question of renaming images upon upload moot. Two files with the same name CANNOT occupy the same folder at the same time. It simply is not possible. Anyone that has uploaded images or files has discovered this, as will your customer.
The only way I've ever been able to get around this is to have different image folders for different categories, or whatever. BUT, you have to make absolutely sure that the path to the image for the product or model number is correct for IH2 to pull the correct image (i.e.. images/folder1/picture.jpg, or, images/folder2/picture.jpg, picture.jpg is a different image with same name in 2 different folders)
That is where IH2's brilliance comes in...It will assign a special name to the different images files it "creates" as they are placed in IH2's cache folders.
Now, in order to really be able to try and help you, we need to know WHY the customer will be uploading different images with the same name, and if there is a particular pattern to this, or, different categories, or something different about why the use of multiple images with same name.
I know this didn't help much, it wasn't supposed to. My reply is designed to draw more info from you and hopefully draw the right answers from someone that knows more than me.
Go back into admin/configuration/images and reset all the values to these:
Then go to IH2 admin and clear image cache. Then clear your browser cache and temporary internet files. Then see how your images look.Quote:

Let us know if that works or not.
(P.S. if it does work, please DO NOT worry about compensation. I wouldn't except any form of payment for being able to help someone in this forum as I've been helped so often by so many and all for just a thank you or a  )
I forgot to mention, if your goal is to have the images on your home page all the EXACT same size, then you will have a problem. The only way to do that, even with Image Handler, is to insure that the ORIGIONAL, unedited images all have the same, or very very close to the same aspect ratio in the first place.
By this I mean, if you have one image that is perfectly square, 120 x 120, and another that is rectangular, 120 x 200, you cannot adjust one to the other without some distortion. The greater the difference in aspect ratio, the greater the distortion.
So, if you want clear, crisp images that are all perfectly the same size, they all have to have the same aspect ratio to begin with.
thanks about the answer, i think you did not quite understand my problem.
ok we are talking about a computer shop here, so the client is going to have for example 50s graphics cards from ATI. He is going to either scan images or get them from the internet. suppose that he adds a card named ati X800, and the image filename is x-800.jpg. he will have a lot other cards with the same gpu so even if its from another manufacturter he might atempt to try and use the same x-800.jpg filename. he wont be able to know if that file already exists, and zen cart only offers the option to over-write an image or not, which will have a side effect of having 2 diferent products with the same image if we overwrite. or it wont overwrite it and we will have a product with no-image or it will use the existing image (not sure how it behaves). What i will like to acomplish is when an image is uploaded and an image with the same filename exist is to rename the new image automatically by entering a number in front of the file name.
hope i am clear of what the problem is and what i am trying to achieve.
The client will have to remane the images himself. As he scans them, and saves them, he will have to assign a unique name (perhaps use the date of the scan as part of the name) before either uploading the image via ftp, or through zencart.
There isn't any other way that I know of to do that, and as a computer store owner, he should already understand that. Zen Cart/IH2 has no way of doing that right now.
