Has anyone setup the PayPal Business Advanced ($5 per month) rather than the Business Pro? Does it work the same? Can I use PayPal Business Advanced ($5 per month) with v1.3.9h?
We are waiting for this as well. I believe Dr. Byte might be the one to ask (I think LOL). He was the one helping us with some of our questions regarding it. I know that it just barely came out or is due to come out soon, and there would need to be a module for it. I was just searching to see if it has been posted, but couldn't find anything yet.
The module is not ready yet. It will only work with 1.5.0 and newer.
It will NOT work with 1.3.9h or older versions.
Right at this moment only U.S. merchants are offering >:(
But as DrByte say is best to consult the official web, the things can change from one day to another
a Paypal tech told me Paypal advanced was not integrated with Zen-Cart as of yet. DrByte if I can help let me know.
Any updated information as to when this module will be available?
I'm very eager to be able to set up PayPal Business Advanced. Anyone hear an estimated time for it's availability?
I am also looking forward to any updates on the module. (in any version of Zen Cart) Naturally, the techs at PayPal can't provide much info on Zen Cart, but they have told me that the Advanced PayPal version puts what you see in the express version inside of an iframe so that the customer does not leave your web site. Apparently, no one has packaged the code for that into a module yet -- I can't find anything on it.
I'm working on a friends ZenCart version 1.5.0. She wants to upgrade to PayPal Payment Advanced, which I understand is a glorified version of PayPal Express that should have a credit card payment window, probably PayPals version C, that will open inside of ZenCart to handle the payment. I also understand that a "PayFlow Link" module might work, but can't find that either. Is there such a module that would work with version 1.5.0? Or, does anyone know of a Developer that has such a module for sale?
Take a look at http://tinyurl.com/7vnl9ah. Note that it is listed as 1.3.9h compatible. That doesn't mean that it doesn't work with 1.5.0 BUT it's a sign to let you know to test it first.
NDboots, the module you speak of isn't ready yet.
In the meantime you can certainly use the built-in Express Checkout support.
Thanks for tips. DrByte, does that mean there is a module for PayPal Advanced in the development stage?
Thanks dbltoe, but that link is for PayFlow Pro, not for PayFlow Link. They are not the same thing. PayFlow Pro is equal to PayPal Pro. While, the new PayPal Advanced is equal to PayFlow Link, which is a glorified version of PayPal Express, only it should likely use PayPal visual "C" design template page, to open inside of ZenCart in an IFrame setting, IF there was a module to do so.
Setting up a new cart for my client.
Trying to decide between Authorize.net and PayPal.
While shopping on PayPal, I see they have a new payment method, between Standard and Pro, PayPal Payments Advanced.
It's only $5 per month, compared to the $30 for Pro.
Does anyone know if this will work with Zen 1.5?
Thanks!
The PPA module isn't quite ready yet.
In the meantime you can certainly use Express Checkout and, if needed, Website Payments Pro.
(Express Checkout offers the same features/benefits/experience to the customer, but works more seamlessly and reliably with your store than WPStandard does)
I spoke to a lady at PayPal today and she confirmed that it is ready for ZC. My PP Advanced application is still pending so I haven't got very far as yet.
Thank you for that update... We cannot wait to implement it as soon as there is a mod!
Dr Byte,
Any thoughts regarding ETA on this? Debating on just going to the Paypal Pro, but I don't really need ~all~ of the things that $30/mo gives me vs advanced.
Not going to hold anyone to it, but if its within a few weeks - month, then I can hold off, if its longer I will go with Pro and downgrade to Advanced when it comes out.
Do we think this will be live within the next 4 weeks , as i am eager to use the PayPal advanced for my site with ZenCart
Has anyone managed to successfully integrate the Paypal payments pro solution that is hosted by Paypal in an iframe on your website?
I have been on for hours trying to figure it out and I can't, there is a module for this but it does not look correct on the page and when payment is placed no confirmation page is displayed or confirmation of order showing in admin.
My ideal solution would be for the customer to select their payment type like they do at present and then when they click proceed a new page pops up with the iframe asking for payment details.
Any ideas?
MOST payment modules are unlikely to work in an Iframe... Many reasons, including session setting, and the fact that the payment gateways BLOCK iframe transactions because of their massive potential to be fraudulent...
Any new news on this? I have been waiting for it as I start up my website, but I cant wait much longer.
Thanks
Also wondering..site will be live in less than a month and $5>$30.
Actually after reading the details on pro and advanced, I'm a little confused. Does the advanced keep all of the payment processing on my page or does it take me to a paypal page? I want everything done on my page with my layout..maybe advanced doesn't do that?
There is a difference between advanced and Pro. Advanced allows your cutomers to stay on your site (a huge + in my mind) but the design of the page is only slightly customizable. With advanced you can fully customize the page (and you can accept credit cards by phone, fax, and mail).
In my situation, just starting a website, I think advanced is the way to go.
I talked on the phone with a very helpful representative from Paypal, although she could not comment on timing for this for Zencart. She said that I would need to contact Zencart for timing. Unfortunetly I have not seen anywhere on the site that discusses the timing of this and I am not sure who to contact.
If anyone else has additional insight, or if someone from Zencart could comment on timing, that would be greatly appreciated.
It's still in QA. No timing information available yet.
Seeking an update to this mod... :)
QA revealed some issues that need addressing. Team still working on it.
I would like to used advanced too. I always hate checking out on a website and getting redirected to paypay. My business still has a couple weeks before it is up and going. Hopefully advanced will be working by then.
Losing hope with this one...
Any information on timing yet? I am launching my site in a few weeks and would love to be able to use this right away. Is it still being worked on?
Waiting on PayPal for some important information.
YEAY!!! progress is happening :)
Can you provide any sort of timeline yet?
I have just launched my website with a less than ideal checkout process. I am trying to decide if I want to wait for this or to get something else while I wait. But its hard to make the decision without some sort of timeline.
Thanks
I am also eager for this module to be ready. Any further updates?
Soon.
FYI, it will be much easier to integrate if you're using v1.5.1 already ;)
It will require at least a minimum of v1.5.0.
So it won't be for 1.5
Oops I didn't see the last part !
I'm so excited for this to be complete! Looking forward to it!!! :)
bump bump !!
Bump bump
Any further updates?
Seeking another update to this mod, Thank you.
Does anyone have an update on this? Is there an add-on module to install? Is it already built in to v1.5? Any help would be much appreciated!!
I too need to have an update on this. I just setup a zencart for a customer and we would like to implement paypal advanced so that the customer doesn't have to get their own SSL that is needed with paypal Pro which they had been consdering as they do not want their customers to have to leave their site to process their payment with paypal. The advanced for $5 a month is a great solution for my customer and we are axiously awaiting a zencart module for this. Please give me an update on the status of this moduel?
Thanks!
The PayPal information for Zencart is located at: https://www.paypal-marketing.com/ema...p510&s=all,s00
It appears to support the standard and advanced PayPal account types =)
Okay, so I didn't see anything at that link. Is there a Paypal Advanced ability or not? I'm needing to make a decision this week on which cart to use(and I'm sure others are in the same boat vascillating) and I totally prefer Zen but if it doesn't have Advanced I'll have to go with OC unfortunately. Does anyone really know if Zen works with Advanced. Anyone try it yet?
The last I heard on the availability status of this was some time ago which was ... it is coming ... Paypal had to send it through their testing department. (Gosh that might have been April this year maybe)... We are awaiting it as well. We have had our zen cart for over 8 years now and have used two types of payment processing (paypal and other). We will be moving to advanced when they finalize with PP.
I can't wait for this to be available. Is there any timeline yet?
Also hoping to hear something about Paypal Advanced integration!!
It is by far the best solution I have found to the never-ending PCI Compliance issue... without causing that panicked "no! dont redirect me" feeling for customers. The only other option I know of to take PCI Compliance totally out of my lap is to move my store to a different host with perfectly maintained PCI Compliant servers. I...don't... want... to transfer to a new server again!!
REALLY hoping to hear some good news on this soon. "It's 100% ready and bug-free" will work. ;) ????
I don't understand where anyone reads that there is any difference with PP-Advanced and any other solution. They all require annual SAQ and they all require quarterly scans. PayPal Advanced requires the same.
PayPal Advanced..... "With this solution, the only remaining requirements are a greatly simplified Security Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) and Quarterly Security Scans."
Yes, you've always been able to use PayPal Payments Pro to take credit card payments directly on your site. Requires PCI compliance self-certification.
And Express Checkout can also take credit-card payments without requiring a PayPal account.
The Payments Advanced option is somewhat of a hybrid of the two, where the credit card processing shows on your site in an iframe but is hosted at paypal, basically taking the bulk of the PCI stuff onto PayPal's end.
Ya, PayPal started offering PPA in April.
As far as the plugin goes, the code still needs much polishing. Been debating posting the unfinished code as an "alpha release" for use-at-your-own-risk testing at large. I'm sure there'll be lotsa complaints about that approach, but I guess I'll never be able to please everyone.
If there is anything a non-prgrammer can do to help, I would be happy to help as well.
Any updates on this project?
DrByte,
Any update on this? I would be happy to help with the test. Thanks for your work on this and the many many other projects you have.
I can't determine if anyone has the PayPal Payments Advanced in the works for Zencart v1.5. If anyone has any information as to if and when this will potentially be available in the near future it would help out greatly.
I am using version 1.5 and desperately need this plug in, where can I get it?
It's been a year since the beginning of this thread. Pretty good indicator that this mod is not going to happen. It's too bad, really. :(
I think it's more of an indicator that there may have been higher priority projects on the good doctor's plate.. (they are working on the v1.6 release of Zen Cart ya know..) Based on his last post it sounds like the module is at an alpha release stage which means it's not quite at a production ready level..
PayPal Advanced Payments is available if you use PayPal Express to checkout.. If you REALLY want to offer this option to your customer's in the interim, you can simply add some explanatory text to your site letting them know this..
How is it possible to use PayPal Express and not use and SSL or nto require your users to have a payapl account when using payments advanced?
I've been over this with paypal and they say no way......
Sorry I re-read your question and while it's not completely on topic for this thread, the short answer is PayPal is right.. You cannot offer Advanced Payments without an SSL certificate AND you must still offer PayPal Express as a payment option (you must statisfy BOTH requirements).
Therefore you cannot offer Advanced Payments without an SSL certificate.
If you wish to offer PayPal Express without an SSL certificate, then you cannot use Advanced Payments (or PayPal Payments Pro for that matter which has the SAME SSL and Express requirements) This is spelled out pretty clearly on their site when you look at the requirements for the three payment options they offer for businesses..

Yes, exactly - for almost a year!
Glad they're working on v1.6.
However, please don't string people along, and give them an impression that something is going to happen, and then not follow up. Doesn't matter how smart or talented someone is - it's bad business.
<soapbox>
And meanwhile...
You have contributed to the project how?
When did you offer your services to assist?
Your knowledge of PayPal is such that you are sure no changes by them have affected the coding of this mod?
Are you just assuming the squeaky wheel will get greased?
</soapbox>
OK not trying to be a greasy wheel or anything, but is there any kind of time frame on this being deployed?
There are other platforms that support this feature but of course I wanna stay with what I know, IE: Zencart.
Thanks
As of December, I think DrByte was quite clear on where this is at..
So if you are looking at this for any kind of upcoming project, and you feel that you HAVE to have PayPal's Advanced Payments on your Zen Cart site, then at this point it appears you have two options:
- Explore other platforms
- Engage the services of a developer to create this module for you
- Use the existing PayPal payment modules
Quite frankly all this clamoring for Advanced Payments seems to be molehills being made into mountains. PayPal isn't really offering anything NEW. They simply created a hybrid product which embeds the Express window on your site. Here's what DrByte posted:
If you think you NEED this simply because you want to add the PayPal financing feature, then my suggestion is that you should go back to PayPal's site and compare the three business payment offerings again. They ALL offer the PayPal financing option AND so it's clear you MUST be on the PayPal site to use it (ie: PayPal Express). So it would appear that waiting for a module which amounts to embedding the PayPal Express page inside Zen Cart JUST so that you can use the financing option makes no sense since a PayPal Express module for Zen Cart already exists..
Well, the one thing they probably think they're missing is the $5 monthly with PPA instead of $35 monthly with Pro. But Pro has additional benefits PPA doesn't. The details of that are all on the PayPal site, and do not need to be hashed out here.
Cop out, sorry, call it as I see it.
Again, please don't tell people something is in the queue, and then not follow up. There's been many folks offering assistance in this thread - coding, alpha/beta testing, or otherwise, but nothing's been given to them - why is that?
Furthermore, I've used plenty of my own time these past years, and have been postively vocal (literally and figuratively via writing) about Zen Cart and it's features - FREE advertising.
If it this mod ain't happenin', please just say so. Then those of us (many of us BTW), can get on with our lives.
You can call it a cop out, but the simple truth is that if you feel YOU NEED/MUST HAVE this, AND DrByte isn't working fast enough or answering your questions fast enough to suit your timeframe, then pay someone to build it and move on. Not sure why you seem all bent out of shape about this?? If it ain't ready, it's just not ready.. The sky isn't falling over this.. Nothing is preventing anyone from getting this feature on their own if they want it..
BTW, not releasing the code doesn't mean it's not still in the queue for DrByte.. Perhaps DrByte's had BIGGER priorities on HIS to-do list, and this was put on a back burner.. (based on hs posts, this appears to be the case) It happens.. Far be for you to tell DrByte how he should prioritize HIS time.
Its not like SSL is expensive and as a web master I'd recommend it no matter what and while not entirely on topic, there are a lot of folks who refuse to use paypal, that's why my clients offer CC and PayPal
Again, if it's not a priority - fine! Just tell us that information. Why is that so difficult to say? Would it have killed anyone to state that - last year?
Free or not free, when we comment that it's disappointing about waiting for a year, nobody should be surprised.
Not telling anyone what to do and getting bent out of shape about it - on the contrary, we've been very patient.
Ya.. but you do appear to be bent out of shape for not getting a status update, and honestly I still don't see why.. Regardless as to whether you got a status or not, IF YOU wanted/needed this functionality, there is nothing precluding you from adding it.. Even if that means paying someone to build it for you.. I get that business decisions need to be made, but if it's critical, why wait?? Cost??
and before I get the small business/small budget speech.. The risk that one undertakes when relying SOLELY on free add-ons with no preparation/expectation that on occasion one may have to invest in the code they need to support ones business means that on occasion a shopowner may not get the functionality they want in a timeframe they would like..
Personally DrByte's last post on this topic (on Dec 2012 -- four months ago), and knowing what the current priority for the Zen Cart team is (v1.6 code/release) is pretty telling all by itself.. It's clearly a LOW PRIORITY based on these factors and the amount of time that has passed.. AND as Gilby pointed out, there is NO time frame announced for this (or any other zen-cart mod or update).
If my client DEMANDED this feature, then we would seek other avenues based on taking a read through this thread (which is kinda how I got here to this thread to begin with -- my client and I are now contemplating his options up to and including having this mod built for him).. But clearly you want it spelled out, and for reasons only DrByte can speak to, he hasn't chosen to use those words explicitly.. (and THIS is what upsets you.. we all get it..)
You make a very valid point DivaVocals. If we are hoping to take advantage of someone else's work for free we really shouldn't complain if it takes a little longer to be able to use it. However, I have a post on the first page of this thread that is nearly a full year old (May 10) and I have regularly checked back throughout that time to see if any advances have been made. At the time that I made my post I was very worried about the difference between $5 a month and $35 a month for my business. Thankfully I am less worried about it now and will probably just switch to the Paypal Pro soon as it appears there is no specific time frame for PayPal Advanced.
Unfortunately, I chose Zen Cart in part because it was open source and because it looked like it would support PayPal Advanced. If I had known then that a year later I still wouldn't be able to implement PayPal Advance I would have gone with a different platform.
Does that mean the Zen Cart team are bad people for not providing me a free module sooner? Absolutely not. Does that mean I'm a bad person for assuming from the talk in this thread that work was being done on the module and it would be available soon? Absolutely not. :)
At this point it is cheaper for me to go with PayPal Pro than it is to pay a developer to switch to a new platform. That doesn't mean that I'm happy with the lack of communication about this project, it's just the way things are. I would have happily donated $35, $70 or even more to the development team to help get this module completed and I still would. Unfortunately, (and this is not unique to Zen Cart but is a problem for many open source projects) I've lost confidence in knowing what I can count on from the platform. Maybe it really will be cheaper for me (in the long run) to pay a developer to switch my site to a new platform if for no other reason than I can feel confident about the future of my website.
DrByte, even if it doesn't sound like it I really want to offer my thanks for all your work, it's much appreciated. And feel free to hit me up for a donation...seriously. I'm happy to donate to the cause but only if I can get some assurance that I won't be waiting for another year to see something. Because really...a year in eCommerce is similar to dog years...worth about 7 regular (human) years.
My apologies if this seems negative as I really don't like to be that way. However, it's been more than a year since DrByte said, "The module is not ready yet. It will only work with 1.5.0 and newer." which I interpreted to mean someone was working on the integration. I would have welcomed hearing then or anytime since, "Folks, we just aren't able to put any resources to this right now so don't plan on using PayPal Advanced anytime soon." At least then I wouldn't feel like I was a sucker for getting excited each time DrByte posted on this project.
Lastly...I realize I am lucky to be able to use Zen Cart for the amount I invested. I appreciate all the work that has gone into it and the generosity that allowed me to use it free of charge. That said please be more open about what we can expect in the future. A little bit of communication goes a long way.
It's not forgotten. Apologies for the delays. "Life happens."
I do read every post here on this subject.
I know you want updates. But then updates create expectations. And thus it's impossible to write posts that satisfy everyone. While sometimes "anything" is pacifying, oftentimes "nothing" is equally suitable. Let's not get into philosophical debates about whether there should be update every "so many days/weeks/months".
I'm posting this note to acknowledge everyone's interest. And to stop the negative back-and-forth chatter that happens from "lack of available information".
I'd prefer to have waited to even reply to this for a few more weeks, but if the last few weeks' discussion is any indication there will probably be a bunch of flame wars if I don't say anything today.
As for the module, I hope to post an update about the module in the near future. Can't commit to a specific date right now.
Thank you Drbyte you and your diplomacy are appreciated
I’ve read something’s here like what’s the point of this module. And here is the point from my understanding:
Using this module will allow you to customize the users experience, and virtually take any reference to PayPal out of the loop or at least play it down quite a bit. (IE: custom pages throughout the process) It is also the only way to do this and NOT have an SSL. If you go that route it is my understanding you have to deal with PCI compliance issues and the extra cost of the SSL. Using this module when it is completed will take the responsibilities of an SSL and bing PCI compliant out of your hands.
If anyone has knowledge to the contrary I’d love to hear more….
Thanks!
SSL and PCI are not directly linked. Best practice is to use SSL regardless of whether you are collecting card numbers directly on your site.
18 months since PPA was introduced, 4 months since last update. I've read every post here. Clearly regardless of what one developer claims, there is a *business* demand for this.
What I don't see is how can we get this re-prioritized higher? It's silly to say "if you need it go pay a developer" because most of us use zen-cart to avoid that. However, most of us also understand ain't nothin in this world is free.
So how about setting up a donation link for this mod? Based on user interest I'm sure sufficient funds would quickly accrue. Set it up and provide a link and I'll donate first.
Well the reality is that using Zen Cart doesn't guarantee that the functions you need will all be available for FREE (hence why there are MANY useful commercial modules that shopowners & developers WILLINGLY pay for..)
So whether you call it donations or whatever, if folks want this NOW, and they cannot wait, it may require a developer stepping up to do the work (for donations), and folks may in fact have to pony up some dough..
I highly doubt that if/when this gets finished that it will be done with any of the 1.3x series in mind.. Especially given that v1.6 is coming on the horizon.. That said it's a payment module, and it's very possible that it will in fact work with the later releases of the 1.3.x series..
Preparing to upgrade a shop from 1.37 to 1.51. Was hoping to migrate directly to 1.6 but can't wait any longer. Will be dropping Google Checkout support next month, so hoping to go with "PayPal Payments Advanced".
Dr Byte, I've just set-up a clean install of 1.51 on my server. If you need any assist testing your PP Pmts Advanced module code drop me a PM.
