I second that! :bigups:
Your newer style templates are really taking the responsive template flexibility to whole new level. Pure genius.

Very nice and outside-of-the-box design. Will have to test this....

That's unlike you Steve, test driving different templates :smartalec:
I have to say though, personally, I think this template could be perfect for your business sector, just my humble opinion mate.

Agreed! Love Winchester but Dover may be even better.

Hi,
It's 1:30 am my time and I just uploaded and installed this nice template in minutes before going to bed. Haven't yet looked at instructions or tooled around much. But, unless I'm not seeing properly this late, I do not see the shopping cart or the account/login info on homepage in desktop mode. Is this correct?
They do show in reduced size mode.

Yes, this is correct. If you want this info on the home page you can add it to a sidebox. If you check the plugins section you will probably find something for this ;)
Thanks,
Anne

Hmmm...I would have thought that having a link to the Account/Login on the homepage in desktop mode would be a given. How else would a customer know how to get to their account login in on homepage in desktop mode? As I understand it, this is not a bug but a design error. Still a great template.
Putting something like "My Account" in the Information section on the bottom left would be best - if not at top near search box or someplace.
Perhaps I can figure out a sidebox, but then it'd be on every page.

What you are asking for is not difficult at all. Just take the code to echo the information and place it in "li" tags where you want it. So if you want it in the information section just add it there. Understand that even if you feel its a design error you are free to do whatever you want. She provides free templates which can be used as a base and the owner can do any modifications they want.

The code is already on the page. There is a display:none hiding it in the index_home.css file. If you want it to show you will need to remove the display:none and then add a z-index so that it will show above the slide show.
It is not an error on my part. I did purposely hide everything from the main page so that the full screen slide show would be the star.
Thanks,
Anne

Thanks, I may try that.
I also understand and appreciate all of the free templates Picaflor Azul provides. IMO she is one of the inner circle of contributors that keeps zencart at the top.
Nobody is perfect, though, and maybe it's just me but I think that a customer in desktop mode should be able to login/register from the homepage. Ecommerce is difficult enough without puting a hurdle in their path. Afterall, the login/register info is in the reduced size mode.
I do see that in reduced size mode that the login information IS in the Information section. Perhaps I'll try your suggestion and get it there in desktop mode.
Thanks again.

Hi,
I fully appreciate your design thought and agree that it probably wouldn't look good encroaching on the slide show in any manner.
I may try to get it in the Information section, as per Yaritai.
Thanks again for the great template...probably the most inspired yet!

Since I see that the account info may be of importance for your site, you may not want to stick it in the information side box. There are 2 possible ways I see fit for your purpose.
1) If you do not use the "more information" sidebox, you may just want to place the customer service links there and then move it to wherever you want in the sort. Just change the heading to what you see fit.
2) But if you do use the "more information" sidebox then just get a blank sidebox or clone a stock ZC one and place the links there.
In another sidebox it would give you control over where you want it in the left navigation and be easy to move it around to your liking for final position.

You could also put it in the blank sidebox which is included with the template. Currently the social media icons are the only thing in the blank sidebox so you could add them either above or below the icons.

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
Okay, putting a My Account link in the blank sidebox seems too difficult for me now (I know, even the simplest things can become big) and the More Information sidebox didn't appear when I turned it on. So I think I've solved my "issue" with the ezpage sidebox with just a link to My Account. Actually, the ezpage sidebox was my first thought since I've used it in the past.
Now I'm thinking of a potentially more serious issue. The lack of text content on the homepage. The slide pics are very nice and dramatic but everything I've read here at zc indicates that there should be some text.
And looking at the "main page text" in admin I just saw why I kept seeing the GHOST of the Winchester New/Featured home images: I brought it over to this template. duh. But trying text makes it hidden at the top near the logo. I wonder if text can be added maybe at the bottom below the slide? But that probably wouldn't look good.
So the choice is looks vs content text?

You need to turn off the banners from the winchester responsive templates. If you want them to show on the dover fine template you will need to adjust the z-index. The same is true of the home page text or any other page element that you want to add to the main page. Anything can be turned on, added, etc, but due the z-index on the background slide show, you will need to adjust the z-indexes of the elements so that they will show on top of the slide show.
You could also add the content in a div below the slide show. There are many possibilites---no reason to choose between content and the slide show.
As always, the free template packages are offered as a starting point. If you do not want to use them "out of the box", then you can modify them as you need to.
Thanks,
Anne

I think that must be another inherent issue related to Android devices. Distortion in all portrait orientations and responsive menus don't work at all on Android tablets.
I know Anne is trying to work through the Android menu issues but there are so many variables that it must be a nightmare. 3 User agents for Apple devices. 180 user agents for Android devices from our GA stats. But Android accounts for 11% of the traffic.

I would agree about the menus except I found menus in the Envato marketplace where the demos work on my Android tablets and phones.. So I'm not ready to give up on the menus yet..:smile:
The slideshow is another story.. I've had NO ISSUES with the Nivo slideshow on other sites, so I'm thinking there's an adjustment on this slideshow that is needed..

This template is using the supersized full screen slide show.
Which menus from envato work for your android tablet?

I don't know about the slide show. I will take a look at the supersized web site to see if they have any help.
What is distorted? The captions or the background images?
Thanks,
Anne

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
I thought that I mentioned this in PM when I was testing the menu functionality.
Portrait orientation:
7" generic tablet
8" Galaxy Tab 3
10" Galaxy Tab 3
Motorola Razr M
BUT
I will have to retest but IIRC the distortion was browser dependent. Some browser, no distortion. Another, very distorted.

Highlighted from my original post..

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
I do not see any effects of distortions on HTC One, Samsung S5 and also a rooted nook hd tablet. Browsers used on all were Firefox and Chrome and show no distortions. As for the menu, I have seen that one before and I think the developer did not intend for it to be used on mobile phones or tablets as the hover function overrides the click function. But even if code can be written to override the hover for click for touch devices, the issue will still come back as many browsers allow users to switch user agents to view desktop versions. So this would still cause issues for those customers who do so.

Just looked again on 8" tablet
. Looks ok chrome/firefox.
Distorted in native Samsung tablet browser & Lastpass browsers. When distorted, it is the logo oval & text oval associated w/slides.

Are the background images distorted? On the smaller screens the captions do turn to ovals.

Thank you for your input ;) Are you talking about the slimmenu? or the flyout menu (used from the fidelity template by sam wilson 3d)? As far as I know, both of these menus are switching the on hover to on click when the screen size reaches a certain width (slimmenu is 768px).
So, if I understand correctly, these tablet devices have a screen size larger than the 768 pixels and the on hovers are not changing to on clicks?
Thanks,
Anne

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
Anne,
The slimMenu is actually perfect for RWD because it will always convert to a toggle menu based on the devices viewport NOT the UA which means it allows the toggle menu to function while in isNonResponsive mode for mobile and tablet devices.
If one wanted to show the drop-down in the isNonResponsive mode for mobile and tablet devices, that also works correctly. I have this running on a test site wrapped in the php-mobile-detect code to keep the menu from shrinking in isNonResponsive mode and the menu still functions correctly as a drop-down menu with the already built in onclick function to override the hover function.
I see no distortions on any of my droid phones or tablets so I can't help there, the slimMenu does work on my droid devices perfectly with some minor code changes, I also have the menu packages ready for you. I will PM those to you as well by weeks end, sorry, been extremely busy.

I dont understand this because the slim menu does not function on any of my Android tablets & I am not the only one. It doesn't make sense to claim a responsive template that is functional for all devices when it is responsive but menu is not functional. I shouldn't have to tutor customers to tap the arrow instead of the button to make things work. And then, if their desired selection is offscreen, they cannot make a selection because the menu will collapse.
Anne Is trying. Things improve, but still are not functional.

It is open source and a new menu could be easily implemented.

I believe I also fixed this issue with "some minor code changes". May be wrong though.

The code, the templates and even plugins are improving and have yet to see FREE or COMMERCIAL Responsive templates for ZC that are even close to serving up perfectly on all devices. I am sure Anne is open to any suggestions to menus that you come across that work on all devices.

It was a mistake on my part as I didn't really look into the menu being used for this one. I see that the slimmenu is still being used but only the responsive toggle mode. And for the dover, it is using a flyout menu while the westminster/winchester is using the slimmenu full mode. So for the latter 2, both have hover as its main functionality. Rbauror is correct in that it does switch based on screen size which you have set the resizeWidth to 768px. So basically the issue of hover conflicts with tablet landscape in that the flyout and full mode slimmenu will show. And with hover needed to work, it won't respond to tablets in landscape.
So when I mentioned to modify it to use click instead of hover, I was speaking of when it was in the latter 2 views not the responsive toggle view.
But going back to user agents it is not the issue, I was only commenting on that as another user of the template kept referencing to user agents multiple times and wanted to address that. But to address the click/hover functionality, what I would do is to detect touch devices and then override the hover. Personally, that would be my sollution IF I used the template with the slimmenu built in. But since I had took away the code, I have not really dealt with it as it was out of sight out of mind.
However, I have completed a site using your westminster template and want to share 1 of the changes I did that I think would help functionality. This is for the easy responsive tabs. I had taken that code completely off as when it is in ACCORDION MODE, you may recognize that IF any of the accordion sections have content that is long like the description and reviews, any click on another section will move everything up and the visitor has to scroll up to view the start of the new section.
SOLUTION: Basically, I was browsing your older templates to see what was being used prior and I felt I found a very good compromise. I have used your accordion from your older version responsive templates. Bascially for those, it does not close the prior section so it does not force the user to scroll back up. So what I have done is to basically use TPP as the desktop/tablet view while the older accordion script for the phone view. You can add tablet to the accordion view as well, but for my friends purpose he opted to exclude it.
So bascially, it is a fairly simple coding which mobile detect does the calls. Just take the same logic from the calls in the header to pull the tpl_header files. Since my friend uses no switches this is the slimmed down version without sessions:
Code:
if ($detect->isMobile() && !$detect->isTablet() ) {
// phone device calls here
// such as echoing the div's for the accordion: layer, heading and content
// also used for calling the tpl_dgreview.php to force reviews when TPP not being used (NOTE: TPP does not need this as TPP calls the correct files from product_reviews both the header and template files accordingly.)
} else {
// tablet and desktop calls here
// such as calling the TPP code in 3 places
}
This is what I deem to be the best for functionality IF long accordion sections are used. Basically, over time a visitor who keeps opening up the accordions and has to scroll up to the start of the section may get frustrated and may interfere with sales.

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
I'm playing with customizations for this template and would like to change the background color for the menu items in the left column (categories, information, etc.). I'm having trouble finding the right setting in the CSS files to do this.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

I'm transitioning from my old template, so there's lots of work to do! I'm also stuck on the page name in the browser tab. I know I updated it using the instructions in the readme file, but it must be pulling copy from somewhere else.

I'm transitioning from my old template, so there's lots of work to do! I'm also stuck on the page name in the browser tab. I know I updated it using the instructions in the readme file, but it must be pulling copy from somewhere else.
For the browser tab edit the includes/languages/english/dover_fine/meta_tags.php file. Be sure that when you upload your changes you overwrite the file on your server.
You can change the background for the left column in includes/templates/dover_fine/images/left-bk,png
Thanks,
Anne

Thanks, I found that image, but what I'm struggling with is the background behind the menu items that fades in when you hover over them. I was able to edit it for the Categories, but I can't find the right CSS for the other sections like Information, Specials, All Products, etc. Is there a global CSS setting for all these menu items, or do they need to be styled individually?

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
I have been working on a new installation of 1.51 zen and everything has been working fine EXCEPT when I installed Dover Theme then all hell broke loose. I have lost my front door and admin connection. I have tried to back out of this by deleting all the Dover Theme files but I still have a blank screen. I even tried re-installing zen in a new folder connecting to my database but no database connection has occurred. HELP.

I don't think the problems are template related if you uploded the files correctly. I would recommend looking at your logs folder and correcting any errors.

I am happy that you like the template and are using is for your site. To change the social media icons in the menu you will need to edit the includes/templates/dover_fine/templates/tpl_modules_mobile_categories_tabs.php file.
Thanks,
Anne

Nothing to do with your question but your banner below the footer needs to be wrapped in a div for "onerow-fluid". Since it is a responsive template that minimizes horizontal scrolling, the banner is making the width too wide on smaller screens. The div above will fix that and control the width when screen size change.

Thank you for catching this. I'll be sure to include the div around the bottom banners in a future template update ;)

The template does not modify that file so it is not included in the package. You will need to create an override for that file and then edit it.

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
Hello Anne,
I just added the template yesterday; however, I wanted to turn off the slideshow until I have better images to display. When I followed your instructions to disable the slide show... the option "Home Page Slideshow" is not listed. The two options available are:
"Version" and "Banner Display Groups Custom Tab".
Can you suggest a different way to disable the slideshow?
Thank you,
Dave

You can turn the banners off in the banner manager.

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
3 column product display question
1.5.3 zc
1.1 dover fine
Beautiful template, had trouble choosing Dover Fine over your many other designs.
Not sure if I should post this here or elsewhere on the ZC forums.
I can’t seam to be able to display products in 3 column, wants to stay in rows. Have layout set for 3 columns and have tried setting to 2 and does not change from rows. Tried activating customer preference, the dropdown shows on site but makes no change from row to grid. New products list fine in 3 columns under products.
Have also changed template back to ZC green and have same thing there, so maybe this problem is in my ZC configuration. All settings are (I think) default. Any ideas that I can try to have products list in 3 column or where better to post?
Have searched forum and found plenty info on 3 column display but no luck for a fix.
Sorry if I should be posting this elsewhere.
Thanks
Randy

The list view for products can not be used in the responsive design since it relies on tables for the layout. To make it responsive, you would need to do some re coding.
Since the problem persists even in the default template, it is probably not a template related problem ;)

Anne

Anne,
Thanks for fast response. I am new to ZC and suspect that I have my terminology wrong here. I am thinking that 3 column product display is what the Dover Fine demo is showing in below screenshot.
Attachment 14325
And here is what I have now (product in rows?)
Attachment 14326
I am trying to have products display (3 per row?) as in the Dover Fine demo above. Is this possible? And if doable could you point me in the right direction to make changes or where I might better post question for more information.
Thank you

If you want 3 products per row then you need to use the grid format.

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
I would like to incorporate the categories sidebox from this template into Westminster New. Is it as straightforward as using the tpl_categories.php and tpl_document_categories.php plus the relevant stylesheet info or are there more complicated integrations to consider?
Thanks

It is pretty straightforward. I used the menu from the fidelity template by sam wilson (thanks sam!) so you can compare the files from both templates to make sure that those are the only files involved.

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
Getting this error after installing and trying to access layout_controller from the Admin Tools menu ...
"We are sorry but the page you requested is no longer available, it has been moved or deleted."
Using Zen Cart 1.5.1 completely empty with just another Responsive template from you installed and nothing more, than a few css tweaks I did to the megamenus and added a few web fonts ...
Please note the file is there(under admin) I checked twice! :no:
BTW another issue related to the FORUM is not letting me post using Chrome!!!

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template

Remove this block of code form the admin/includes/installers/dover_fine/1.0.php:
Code:
global $db;
$sql = "SELECT * from " . TABLE_LAYOUT_BOXES . " LIMIT 1";
$result = $db->Execute($sql);
$value = $result->fields['show_box_min_width'];
$type = gettype($value);
if ($type == 'NULL'){
$db->Execute("ALTER TABLE " . TABLE_LAYOUT_BOXES . " ADD show_box_min_width TINYINT( 1 ) NOT NULL DEFAULT '1' AFTER layout_box_status_single;");
}
Thanks,

I did it, but unfortunately didn't work ... maybe I am missing a step, as I just noticed this installer code, that executes all the db statements, should I run that first?
I was following the html instructions step by step except the db backup explanation, which is for non techs or unfamiliar users, and then carefully checked that all the files were in place, one by one without skipping any, I didn't read the code but the only thing that's installed besides Dover is the Responsive sheffield Blue ... and a few CSS modifications I did, nothing else ...

You need to follow the installation instructions in the templates readme.html file. It is different for this template than older templates.

Anne

Following exactly those instructions, BTW not using Filezilla because it's not working from my desktop, so I directly uncompressed the zip file in my CP file manager inside my server, however as I already removed everything and started fresh, I am testing what differences are between your layoutcontroller.php file and the one in v153, as that seems to affect even the upgraded version, not the one I am testing now, which is a NEW installation, and is working fine with the classic template, as expected, i will test it by keeping both files, renaming the old one to something not related, and then without rewriting to see if the error persists ...
From your explanation I assume you are referring to remove these lines
PHP Code:
global $db;
$sql = "SELECT * from " . TABLE_LAYOUT_BOXES . " LIMIT 1";
$result = $db->Execute($sql);
$value = $result->fields['show_box_min_width'];
$type = gettype($value);
if ($type == 'NULL'){
$db->Execute("ALTER TABLE " . TABLE_LAYOUT_BOXES . " ADD show_box_min_width TINYINT( 1 ) NOT NULL DEFAULT '1' AFTER layout_box_status_single;");
}
Only if I have another responsive theme, which is not the case now.
So I am testing both scenarios.

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
My last test was to check if the installer was properly executed, so I manually checked all the affected tables, and see if the values were updated or inserted, as they should, as the SQL statements dictate. I went through configuration and layout boxes and both tables were properly updated, and the script was executed.
However I have no clue why my iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1.1(9B206) displays the menu, but after you release your finger the menu disappears, so I am not able to select any options.

Another test revealed that using the ORIGINAL layout_controller file, made the problem disappear I am checking both codes to see if I can spot what is causing this behavior, another issue I found in my iPhone 4 iOS 5.1.1, is the fact the logo is stretched vertically, will check the mobile css to see if I can find what the problem might be ...
However I still need to compare both files because in this test I simply renamed the new one in the template to something else, even changed the extension, and then renamed the back the original, and boom it worked! Now I need to check where are the differences between those two files ...

The problems that you are experiencing are atypical. It leads me to believe that there is something wrong with your zen cart install or with the template package files that you are uploading.

FYI it was a vanilla ZC installation, nothing on it, really installed over a wiped out database, I unzipped it directly, so something really weird happened, I am a computer engineer, I am really careful with what I upload and check several times to make sure I have all files, the first thing I do is to check and test over vanilla installations, to see if something weird happens, so no chance the code was altered, as ZC v153 was not tested on my PHP version, I tend to think it might be affecting something, I checked the logs and nothing abnormal was in there, permissions were all fine for a Linux server. The fact that my modified file works and yours doesn't, makes me think there might be a slight difference that was not spotted because it was tested in a different server environment. the error persisted in a freshly unzipped layout_controller.php file, I noticed only a few changes to the database and tables, that worked fine once I manually copy them ...

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
Hi
I need some assistance please.
I am using zencart V 1.5.3. I have just installed the shopping cart and then added the Dover Fine template.
My site is in maintance mode at the moment as i am trying to replace the 'dover fine' logo.png with my own logo.
I have created a logo that is 200 x 200 pxl and called it logo.png.
Now, when i goto includes/templates/dover_fine/images/ i deleted the original logo.png file and refreshed the viewer.
Then i upload my logo.png file to the same location.
I then goto my site to refresh it.... even after refreshing the site i am still getting the orginal dover fine logo even though that has already been deleted.
I have tried deleting from my FTP as well as from my server cpanel.... but it makes no difference as i am getting the same results.
Any clues on how i can fix this situation....???
Thanks

My guess is that you have not really deleted the original file or that you are not really overwriting the file when you upload your logo. The template logo image is:
includes/templates/dover_fine/images/logo.png
Changing this image should do the trick.
Try clearing your cache and cookies in your browser.

Hi
Thanks for getting back to me quickly.
I have cleared the cache and browsing history etc.
I am using IE 11 on Windows 7.
I am just checking to see if i have made any errors during teh installation etc .
thanks

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
I have checked the logo.png file. It has been installed correctly. If i remove the logo.png file then the site will not show any image at all - image missing etc.
When i upload my logo.png file i still get the dover fine logo and not my logo.
Thanks

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
Hi
I figured the problem out.
The file that i deleted was logo.png. After i cleared the cache i then uploaded my logo.png file.
For some reason it would not let me display my logo, instead i had your logo on there.
The solution was simple.
I needed to rename my logo.png file to (example) logo123.png
Then i also had to change the file name in the header file too.... (includes/languages/english/dover_fine/header.php )
After doing this and clearing the cache i refreshed my site and guess what - it was working !
Thanks for your help......

The file that i deleted was logo.png. After i cleared the cache i then uploaded my logo.png file.
For some reason it would not let me display my logo, instead i had your logo on there.
The solution was simple.

I am happy that you figured it out. But, just to be clear, it is not a problem with the template at all. It is an ie browser related problem ;)
Thanks,

Apparently it has something to do with certain iPhone 4's, my demostore
HTML Code:
http://www.theoutletseason.com/demostore
But I can tell you I had the same problem when checking your DEMO too ... BTW the squeezing behavior is cumulative! by this I mean every time I rotate the iphone the logo got squeezed a bit more, weird!!!! Definetely soemthing to check, as an oddity, lol, I rotated the logo counterclockwise until it disappeared, then one more time and boom the logo was there!, squashed but not exactly too bad ...
BTW this script is not included with the package .... >>>>
HTML Code:
includes/templates/dover_fine/jscript/jquery.easing.min.js
I checked twice and is not in the distribution, nor in the extracted directory ...

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
Zen Cart 1.50 www.mldfurniture.co.uk
Having I think a similar problem in that all the options in the left hand side have disappeared and none appear on right hand side.
Have tried turning all banner boxes one by one off on left and right sides as well as turning banners off but still cannot get it to show the categories / tabs etc which were showing up until last week.
Thank you.

I have no idea what to tell you. Normally, things just don't stop working without a reason. If I were you I would back track through my customizations until you find what broke things.

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
I have installed Dover Fine at http://www.mldfurniture.co.uk with ZenCart 1.5.0 but have a number of queries / problems.
The search window in top left hand corner shows some HTML coding inside. Also the search GO button was not in the downloads and should be in a file called button_search_header.gif
I think I have uploaded the latest Dover Fine template (1.2) but in the backend of ZenCart it shows as 1.1. I assume this number just has not been updated but I would like to check. Is there an easy way of determining if the template is 1.1 or 1.2 ?
How can you get some horizontal space between the face pics and text in our About Us page ? We have used hspace="20" in the coding for the facepic but no space is shown.
Thank you.

The search box and button problem is not inherent to the template package. It sounds like your upload was incomplete or corrupted.
There is probably just a typo in the installer files. I will correct this in the next version.
You can add #aboutUsMainContent img{margin-right:whatever px;} to move the image away from the text.
Thanks,
Anne

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
Thank you Anne for prompt response on a Sunday night.
Do you know what files that I should be reuploading to try and fix this Search problem and do you know where I could locate the go.gif file.
Re the coding in your email re the spacing. Do I insert this in the About Us Page Code in the ZenCart backend using the Define Editor there ? Do I insert it immediately after the coding for the picture ?
Thank you.

Re: Dover Fine Responsive Template
Forgot to ask Anne.
Can you tell if the template at www.mldfurniture.co.uk is Ver 1.0 or 1.1 ?

Can you suggest a different way to disable the slideshow?

Great Template! Just readdressing this item. Turning off all the banners using the banner manager just results in a spinning circle. Installation instructions tell us to go to Configuration >> Dover Fine (sic). Then click on "Homepage Slideshow" and enter false. That option is not available in Configuration >> Dover Fine Template Configuration.
Check several times for missing files to no avail. Is there perhaps some other way to disable the slide show?
THANX

I'll take a look at this for a future template update ;) For now, if you do not want to use the slide show on the main page, you can remove the code from the tpl_main_page.php file.
Thanks,
Anne
