Winchester Black Responsive Template
This new responsive template package is based on the Winchester Responsive template package. Color palette has been changed to black. I had someone request this and thought it would be a popular option. Even though it is based on the Winchester Responsive package, I have updated it to include many bug fixes and added the zen colorbox plugin. Thanks goes to rbarbour for the Responsive DIY Template Default for v1.5.x for contributing the excellent responsive framework used to build this package.

Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
Hi Anne,
I love this template. Thank you. I have noticed a small bug. I am using an iPad running native Safari. When the site is viewed in landscape mode the drop down menu is white text on black background. In portrait however this changes to black text on black background.

Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
Hi Anne,
Sorry have also noticed another slight bug. Again on an iPad in portrait that when you click the menu icon and the drop down menu displays the logo gets shifted across to the right hand side of the page. On an iPhone 4 it doesn't do this, instead the menu sits nicely over the top of the logo.

Thank you so much for pointing this out! I will be sure to fix this in the next update. For now, you can change #222 to #fff on line 259 of the stylesheet.css file
Thanks,
Anne

Try this and let me know if it fixes it:
In includes/templates/override/css/responsive_tablet.css on line 83 change to this:
Code:
#menu{width:100%;position:absolute;top:0;left:0;z-index:9999;}
Remove line 92:
Thanks,
Anne

Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
Here are a few more css changes that need to be made in the includes/templates/override/css/stylesheet.css file:
add:
#cartProdTitle{color:#000;}
line 112, change to:
#cartContentsDisplay td{padding-top:25px;padding-bottom:25px;border-bottom:1px solid #222;color:#000;}
line 349, change to:
.categoryListBoxContents a{font-size:110%;color:#a0a0a0;}
line 21, change to:
input:focus, select:focus, textarea:focus {background: #ccc;color:#000;}
line 20, change to:
TEXTAREA {margin: auto;display: block;width: 95%;border:1px solid #222;background:#000;margin-top:10px;margin-bottom:10px;color:#222;}
Thanks,
Anne

Hi Anne,
Sorry there doesn't appear to be #222 on line 259 of the stylesheet.css file.
Line 259 is the following:
ul.slimmenu.collapsed li > ul {display: none;position: static;}
Thanks

In the responsive_tablet.css there isn't anything on line 92, changing line 83 to what you suggested however does get the menu to display without shifting the logo, however the menu icon is now barely visible as it is hanging off the top of the screen...
Thanks

I don't know what to tell you. I just downloaded the template package from the plugins section and this is on line 259:
Code:
ul.slimmenu.collapsed li a {display: block;border-bottom: 1px solid rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.075);box-sizing: border-box;-moz-box-sizing: border-box;-webkit-box-sizing: border-box;color:#222 !important;}
Change it to:

resize your desktop window to 768px wide

Ah ok, I downloaded the template from your site rather than the plugins section. That particular line is line 258 in the one on your website...
I have now downloaded the plugin from the plugins section on here instead and uploaded that instead and made the change which has resolved the issue.
Thanks

Yes, I have already added the changes into the package on my site. I will submit an updated package in a while after more people have tested out the template ;)

If you want to view the tablet view on a desktop and just resize the browser window then you need to use this url:
site url.com/index.php?main_page=index&display_mode=isTablet
so for my demo:
http://weblyweb.com/win/index.php?ma..._mode=isTablet
This will switch the user agent so you see the correct layout.
Thanks,
Anne

Hi Anne,
That's what I am saying, I looked at your site on my desktop using the url http://weblyweb.com/win/index.php?ma..._mode=isTablet and agree that it displays correctly when you re-size the browser window.
However if I use my iPad and browse to http://weblyweb.com/win/index.php?main_page=index and view that in portrait mode on my iPad retina the menu icon appears as shown in the image on my post above, so I think there is something wrong in the stylesheet somewhere..
If I view on an iPhone 5 again it displays correctly, so there only appears to be something wrong with portrait orientation on an iPad Retina
Thanks
Lee

I am sorry, but I can not see the problem:

If you want to move the menu icon for portrait tablets you can do it in the responsive_tablet.css file.
Thanks,
Anne

Ok, add this to the bottom of the styles for the portrait tablets in includes/templates/override/css/resonsive_tablet.css:
Code:
.safari #menu{top:30px;}
Then change this line:
Code:
#menu{width:100%;position:absolute;top:0;left:0;z-index:9999;}
to this:
Code:
#menu{width:100% !important;position:absolute;top:0;right:0;z-index:9999;}
Thanks,

Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
Another small fix for safari mobile. Add this to both the landscape and portrait sections of the responsive_tablet.css file:
Code:
.safari input [type=submit], input[type=submit]{ -webkit-appearance: none;-webkit-border-radius: 0;}
Thanks,
Anne

Scratch this. I just noticed a mistake in the file. To fix the problem you just need to remove this line in the /* ----------- iPads (portrait) ----------- */ section:
Code:
#menu{float:none;margin-top:-30px;width:50%;}
Thanks,
Anne

Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
Hello Anne,
Can confirm the categories menu is now working fine on my ipad3 in portrait. Have the 3 horizontal menu dashes on top of eachother in the top right hand corner of the main page which drops down the categories, information and contact menus.
Btw, thank you for sharing this great template, really clean and simple. Extremely impressed!

Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
hi, i love the look of this template, nice and dark. i would only give you a bit of feedback regarding the text colour. I noticed that it seems a bit too dark in the product detail page, that bit that can make reading hard for blinds like me :D :D :D
I would actually go for something much brighter than the menu for the description and the headers (description, details, reviews, categories, price, product name, etc) so highlighting it amongst the page. In marketing there is risk a potential buyer get distracted by brighter line of text on the page, and on this page there are already the categories, and the cross selling link below.
just my personal opinion, i'm able to mod a few lines of code to make it happen anyway. here is a moke up on how i would see it.

This is true, I have noticed a few other places as well where the text could be lightened. I will include these in a future update.
You can change in stylesheet_responsive_tabs.css:
Code:
.resp-tabs-list li {
font-weight: normal;
font-size: 140%;
text-transform:uppercase;
display: inline-block;
padding: 13px 15px;
margin: 0;
list-style: none;
cursor: pointer;
float: left;
color: #444;
}
to:
Code:
.resp-tabs-list li {
font-weight: normal;
font-size: 140%;
text-transform:uppercase;
display: inline-block;
padding: 13px 15px;
margin: 0;
list-style: none;
cursor: pointer;
float: left;
color: #a0a0a0;
}
and change this in stylesheet.css:
Code:
.pi-reviews, #productDetailsList, #productDescription {
line-height: 22px;
color: #444;
}
to this:
Code:
.pi-reviews, #productDetailsList, #productDescription {
line-height: 22px;
color: #a0a0a0;
}
also in stylesheet.css change this:
Code:
h2 {
text-transform: uppercase;
font-weight: normal;
color: #444;
font-size: 140%;
font-weight: normal;
}
to this:
Code:
h2 {
text-transform: uppercase;
font-weight: normal;
color: #a0a0a0;
font-size: 140%;
font-weight: normal;
}
also in stylesheet.css change this:
Code:
#productName {
font-weight: normal;
font-size: 160%;
color: #444;
margin-top: 0px;
margin-bottom: 30px;
}
to this:
Code:
#productName {
font-weight: normal;
font-size: 160%;
color: #a0a0a0;
margin-top: 0px;
margin-bottom: 30px;
}
also in stylesheet.css change this:
Code:
h3.leftBoxHeading, h3.rightBoxHeading {
color: #444;
font-weight: normal;
font-size: 150%;
}
to this:
Code:
h3.leftBoxHeading, h3.rightBoxHeading {
color: #a0a0a0;
font-weight: normal;
font-size: 150%;
}
Thanks,

Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
Hello Anne,
The main page wide slide show banner plugin (zen colorbox-slideshow speed) appears to have a bug in that I cannot slow down the scroll speed which by default is 2500 Milliseconds.
I've changed this to 20 seconds so 20000 Milliseconds and it doesnt appear to make any difference. I've also changed this to multiple values, nothing seems work?
What is also odd is the slideshow seems to be disabled by default which is strange as it's scrolling.
Attachment 15012
Also would you please be able to confirm where is go to change the uppercasing of the content item description as shown in the screenshot attachment to normal casing?
One other issue is the "enter search keywords here" is extremely small to read in the top right search bar.
kind regards
Nathan

The main page slide show is not using zen colorbox. This is flexsldier. You can see the readme.html file for a link to the authors site and instructions on how to adjust the speed.
I am not sure what you mean by "the content item description" but any text-transform:uppercase; will be in the stylesheets.
Thanks,
Anne

Ah okay thank you, will take a look in the readme.
RE: "the content item description" Sorry, my mistake. Category Item description, the description Txt under the flower image in the attachment that's all in CAPITALS, would like to change it to normal case.
I'll take a look in the stylesheets as you mentioned.
Thanks,
Nathan

Hi Anne, you should probably adjust your documentation or the slide show image as your stock scrolling image say's "Manage Slide Show Via The Admin" which doesnt look to be the case as you mentioned I have to effectively edit, configure the flexslider jscript 2.1 unless I'm mistaken.
A slider that can be configured fully from admin would personally be much more convenient and preferable than having to ftp and modify a file with changes, especially to a basic simple user as myself and many others trying zen cart and your superb template for the first time.
ThanksAttachment 15018

Keep in mind that this is a FREE template package. Features are added as my time allows.
You can indeed manage all aspects of adding images, banner titles, banner links, whether the links open in a new window, etc. from the admin banner manager. No changes to the slide or documentation are necessary.
Thanks,
Anne

Hello Anne,
I cant seem to to switch on the languages and currencies sideboxes under Layout Boxes Controller using this template so maybe a bug? Works fine with other templates.

Just posting questions and possibly bugs in a support forum to help you, myself and others.
Unfortunately I cant see it on your page anywhere, I've tried viewing your demo site link you provided on my pc laptop, iphone, ipad.
Can anyone else confirm its working correctly or see it on the link so I can rule it out as a issue or confirm its a local isolated issue with my site?
Btw I followed zen carts documentation and yours to enable it.

That would explain why I couldnt find it as it's pretty standard to change language and currency on the main opening page. Is that a limititation of the template or something you plan to fix in the future?
Thank you

Btw, the picture Carousel seems to break when you enable SSL and view the site under HTTPS.

If you want the sideboxes to show on the main page then you can remove the code that is hiding the left hand column in the tpl_main_page.php file. Or you can install the languages and currencies in the header plugin.
Thanks,
Anne

In the includes/templates/winchester_black/templates/tpl_index_default.php file change this:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="<?php echo HTTP_SERVER . DIR_WS_CATALOG . DIR_WS_TEMPLATE; ?>jscript/jquery.carouFredSel-6.0.2.js"></script>

Still very much under development Anne so it's 'hidden' :smile:. I get that error on Login and Register too. Plus the Search Box seems to not work at the moment either.

Now this is just my opinion, but I do find it a little off that you are quite happy to ask for Anne's help on this forum, but don't seem quite as happy to keep her company name in the footer of your site to give her the credit she deserves...

As I said, very much in development and certainly not live, I'm experimenting with all sorts of settings. Perhaps you should reserve judgement until the site goes live?

I don't think the error is template related. It is an ajax error. If you are running 1.5.4 maybe you have deleted the ajax files?
Thanks,

Thank you Anne for the clarification. I am using 1.5.1 (essentially because it is available for 'easy' installation on my Host server by my Host company :smile:)
I will look into the Ajax file problem and see if everything that is supposed to be there is (obviously not of course).
Many thanks again for your time.
Did you see my other question about turning the Left Slide Out off (we may wish to do this at times)
The template itself is great, so thanks again.

If you installed the cart using any of the "one click" installers you should delete it and start over with a fresh install of 1.5.4 using the zen cart native installer. Never use a one click installer on a live site.
You can hide the left slide out using css with a display:none;
Thanks,
Anne

Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
Since this template now bundles in Zen Lightbox are any instructions in the template files for anyone who might install Image Handler after installing this template???
or
Is the expectation that shopowners are supposed to get help from the Zen Lightbox and/or Image Handler support threads??

This template comes with zen color box installed. And yes, it someone has questions about any 3rd party plugin, they should ask it on that plugins support thread.

Right.. However, I think it would be beneficial for those using this template to at least have a very basic instruction about installing Image Handler AFTER installing this template included in the template instructions.. It will probably save a few shopowners some headaches..

As with any plugin, if there are the same files in the plugin package and the template package, merges will need to be made.

Anne.. I understand that.. But shopowners often don't always read the readme files that are included with the modules.. The Image Handler readme includes very thorough installation instructions which include explicit instructions with regards to the lightbox contributions to prevent the issue we commonly saw reported when folks install Image Handler after installing lightbox modules.. I'm simply suggesting that you might want to do the same in your template's installation instructions because it won't harm anything to include these instructions, and it will save a nascent shopowner some easily avoidable issues & frustration.. (which is why this kind of information was included in the Image Handler installation instructions to begin with -- it was low hanging fruit with immediate benefit)..

Why don't we just leave the extra instructions here on the forum thread. I think that we all know that the number of people who install the templates and look at or read the readme files is extremely low. Then if they have questions about it or need help and post I can refer them to the post.
I really hate to open up the can of worms with adding instructions to the readme file for tips on integrating other 3rd party plugins.
Thanks,
Anne

Sorry while I know that there are a LOT of folks who do not/refuse to read the readme or the forums before asking for help, I don't agree that the number of people who DO read these instructions is low at all.. In fact I know that once the readme for Image Handler was refactored, it reduced the number of support questions by nearly 80-90%.. It's not opening up a can of worms at all if handled properly IMHO.. You might want to take a look at how it was handled in the Image Handler readme.. It took NO TIME to add what amounted to a very simple integration instruction..
You can handle this anyway you like.. it was simply a suggestion.. I know from 1st hand experience that adding these additional instructions to the Image Handler readme practically eliminated the lightbox questions..

Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
Hi Anne,
an update, now running 1.5.4 and everything is OK with the issues I had before. One small thing though and the reason I have been working a little blind, the Read-me file is refusing to work for me. I get the framework come up with your logo, menu, etc., but no text anywhere. Any suggestions please?
I should add that I downloaded the source file twice to check this, same happened both times. I guess it's my end, but can't work out where or what.

Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
Anne,
one more question at the moment. The tag line in a viewing browser tab says "v154 Winchester Black Responsive Template' where I (and customers I think) would expect to see the tag line of either the site being visited or a page within that site. Looking at the source code from the home page (as viewed in the browser) , or any other page the 'Title' and the meta name field description contain the above text and not that defined by me in the meta tags file within the package?

Hi Anne,
Firstly, great template! I've added to above code to the stlyesheet.css file. The search bar now works in IE, but not in FireFox? I tried it on another computer as well with the same result. Any ideas?
-
Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
So another issue - don't know if I'm the only one, but the first time it happened I was adding to stylesheet.css so I thought I stuffed something up there, so I reloaded the template again overwriting all the files and starting from scratch.
However it has done it again, I wasn't changing anything. The only thing I changed in stylesheet.css was adding the extra code for the search bar, which I have since removed and the problem is still there - so I don't think that's it.
http://waxnwicks.com.au/store/
I've tried in both IE and FF and other computers. It's basically lost all the original formatting, for the menus etc, I'm not expert my any means, but I'm thinking it might be a Javascript issue?
-
Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
I've just replaced all the .css files again. Still having the same problem. I don't know what would be causing it.

Got it sorted. Still not sure what caused it. I was installing another template and I think overwriting one of the other files fixed it.
Anyway, just a couple of quick ones, the bestsellers box and the list of items when viewing the shopping cart - the background is white. So all you can see is the picture. The only way to see the text is by hovering over the title/link. Is there a way to make the background black?

I've deleted my test product and deleted the orders, so no best sellers box, but it does the same thing with the shopping cart. Just add the product to the cart and you'll see what I mean.

Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
So I've been looking at stylesheet.css and web developer tools in FF.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is the .rowEven line 115. I've even removed background-color:#fff; from the css file and it still manages to have one there when I'm back at the page: background-color: #FFF;
If I untick the box it in web developer, the white background goes and it works perfectly, I'm not sure what keeps making the background come back even though I've removed the background-color:#fff; code completely, hope I'm making sense.

Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
I figured it out, I removed the background-color from lines 114 & 115 leaving it as:
.rowOdd {height:1.5em;vertical-align:top;}
.rowEven {height:1.5em;vertical-align:top;}

I have downloaded the winchester black template for testing
When deceasing the screen size the side menu goes and leaves 3 columns

then to 1?

Re: Winchester Black Responsive Template
Hi Anne,
Sorry to keep annoying you. I was hoping you could point me in the right direction. If I wanted to add text or an image before the shopping cart count in the header, what do I need to put where?
I've noticed this is already in the header.php file, but I'm guessing that would come up after the item count.
Code:
define('HEADER_TITLE_CART_ITEMS', 'item(s)');
And I thinking I need to put something the the tpl_header.php file on line 125 somewhere in this code:
Code:
<div class="header-cart">
<a href="<?php echo zen_href_link(FILENAME_SHOPPING_CART, '', 'NONSSL'); ?>"><?php echo $_SESSION['cart']->count_contents();?> - <?php echo $currencies->format($_SESSION['cart']->show_total());?></a>
<?php if ($_SESSION['cart']->count_contents() != 0) { ?>
<?php }?>
</div>
</div>
So basically I want to be able to place text/html before 0 - $0.00
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Anne,
NICE template, first of all.
So far, I have 2 problems:
1. Can you tell me how I can push down the header menus? It currently runs into my header image.
2. My footer says this: WARNING: An Error occurred, please refresh the page and try again.
Thanks in advance!

This template uses php mobile detect to serve up the optimized layout based on device. To see the exact layout served to tablets and phones when you are using a desktop you need to use the following urls:
yourdomain.com/index.php?main_page=index&display_mode=isMobile
yourdomain.com/index.php?main_page=index&display_mode=isTablet
Thanks,
Anne

1. If you post a link to your site I can take a look.
2. It sounds like you have plugins installed that have files in your old template override folder that you have not copied over to the new template override folder. Check your logs folder for errors and correct them.
