In answer to the last post by brimsjewelry, unless your directory named "easy" is the name of your Zen Cart "Admin" folder, then you have installed Easy Populate in the wrong place.

I have all the files from my supplier, but for the life of me I cannot get the products to show up, I think im doing everything correctly as per instructions. But im not shure.

A) I just want to confirm, that importing products specified in 3 (or more) languages, the Category they belong to has to be defined only once...that means that the cat ID of the default language will be used to place the products to the "foreign" categories as well? Regardless of what the category is named in other languages? Or how does that work?
B) I made a description update leaving only column "model" & "decr". That left all other related values (price and so on...) in the database.
But....when trying to update only the price, using only columns "model" & "price" , all other related data is gone.
Any suggestion how to update just using the columns nessesary? I mean, makes it easier using only 2,3 columns....and faster

Under Tools - Easy Populate, I'm able to download EP files. However, it seems I'm unable to create EP files in my Temp directory. It says the file has been created successfully, but I don't find the file in the Temp. My Temp is at: /home/bonnie/public_html/temp

The permissions for your temp folder are not sufficient. Ensure that they are writable by the server. This is usually chmod 700 or up to chmod 777 for some server configurations.Quote:

i am trying to install ep 2.5.4 on my shop and facing some problems.
I uploaded the files in the as told and tried to install ep from admin menue.
i first of all get the following error:
EASYPOPULATE_MSGSTACK_INSTALL_KEYS_FAIL
EASYPOPULATE_MSGSTACK_DROSS_DETECTED
manual install (sql-file) also doesn´t work. I tried to download files by clicking the appearing links (e.g. "Download Complete tab-delimited .txt file to edit "). First something is downloaded, but when i try to open the downloaded text (here: FullEP2006....txt), i am told, that this file doesn´t exist.
i have permissions set to 777 in folder shop/temp.
I must say that i had installed other old ep-versions but had them not properly running. The files were overwritten when uploading the files of versipn 2.5.4.
Hope anyone can help quickly, otherwise i am going to insert over 300 products by hand (believe me, i want to avoid this :-)...).

if you are using any language other than english in admin, you will need to copy to teh new language all of the files in the language dependent folder. See how it goes after this.
Is there any way to populate the category images..
I can populate the product images with ease, but I can find no way to populate the category / subcategory images..
I know this isnt done too often, but since I am setting up a site at the moment, I find that every time I clean out and reset to test, I then have to manually put all the category images in again.

As I try "Insert Into DB" option, both Browsing to select your EP file (Full-EP2005Aug31-0404.txt) from my local PC and specifying the file name under /Temp at server, it gives me a web page with "The resource cannot be displayed, HTTP Error 406 - Not acceptable Internet Explorer " error message.

After some initial problems, with some help, I got EP installed and it did the right thing, even after I made my own template. The template works and EP does populate the store the correct way, with the exception of images. My catalog has been set to main category, for images. But on each additional upload, EP seems to be the common demoninator here, unless you can explain otherwise. (I have the EROROR at the end of each line in a tab deliminted CSV file.
The problem is on easy successive load on EP after a day or two, EP seems to add paths to my file names. I have looked at the CSV file and I see none in the raw data (the CSV file). I can only think of two things. A. EP is picking up a setting from a template already produced and one where I tried to alter the path for images, but its a template I am not using. or B. EP is trying to find a path and insert it, thinking it should be in there. but why would they bother to program it that way? C: Someone could have hacked my website, but then, they could have pulled down the whole store, why mess with a path to just images?
Also, after a CSV file is used, it longer seems to be loadable in excel, Fortunately I keep my orginginal spreadsheets handy after figuring this out. I back up my MYSQLdatabase before each EP upload, so I would recommend to any new users of ZEN CART to please do so, every step of the way, back up your site.
I like EP for the quick work it makes of data entry. but if Langer or anyone else has an idea about this, this would be a good time. I have nothing bet praise for EP otherwise.

When U install EP u can export your products in Excel Table but care full its a txt file. U HAVE TO OPEN IT WITH EXCEL but whatch out u save it.
And whan u open excel table u have to changte tax class with its name and price and all products attributes and options
its easy just have to see it and u will get it

hi quick question, i need to download easy populate so i went to the mod hole to do so but i think something is wrong with the file. when i click on the download for EP_v1.2.5.4.zip it says I'm downloading index.php.
and when download ep_v2_75_zen-cart_1_2.zip its only one file but no instructions or anything like that.
i remember when i used EP before there were a bunch of file this just doesn't look right.
does anyone know where i can find a good copy or is this a good copy and how do i install.

I'm have a database in FileMaker Pro that I'm using to populate ZC with. I have installed and used EP successfully to make product updates. I'm running into a snag with Attributes.
The products in the cart are audio tapes and CDs. They are available with an attribute called Soundtrack and attribute values called Music, Nature or Music & Nature.
I've downloaded a recent Attributes-EP2006May27-1111.txt file, open that in FileMaker and see the following headers:

But, when I look in ZC through a MySQL client, I can't find those fields in the ZC database. What am I missing? Are the underscored numbers parsed somehow by EP? If so, what do they correlate to?
I've added all those fields to my FileMaker Pro database, filled them with data, exported an EP file and I see ALL possible options for every defined attribute. ?? I have since deleted them all and I'm stuck. What I want is the lead product, CD123 to show that it is available in Music or Nature via radio buttons on the product detail page.

Is it possible to add extra fields to EP? I need one that will upload the products cost (not price) Can I add a field called v_products_cost? If so, how would I do that.

I read that Quattro Pro can do far more than 256 - I have not confirmed it.
The only one I found (that worked) was koffice-kspread (KDE Spreadsheet), but if you're on windows, it isn't going to be much help.

Any update on what has happened to the download at modhole?
Still shows download link is EP_v1.2.5.4.zip, but is actually a single (and bogus) index.php file.
Is there an alternative download site or can someone send/post the correct file?

Found out from modhole that prob is in browser version(s) used for download... using IE I was unable to get anything but the "index.php" file but Netscape had no prob getting full zip download.
HOWEVER... I am a bit confused on how to set up my excel columns so that the categories/subcategories/products will import correctly.
My store is for power sport vehicle batteries and I will set it up with various categories/subcategories drilling down until the correct battery is listed. As an example:
Motorcycles > Honda > 1800cc > GL1800 Gold Wing > battery
Thus, each type of vehicle (motorcycle, snowmobile, water craft,etc) will be a category and each of those will have a subcategory of makes, with each of those having a subcategory of sizes, with each of those having a subcategory of models, finally ending w/ the appropriate battery for that vehicle.
I set up a singular product in my store and then did a download from EP to see the format that I would need to use in Excel, but no categories are showing. I was hoping to do my actual category/subcategory setup using EP as I actually have more categories than I do products (many of the batteries will fit multiple vehicles).
I must surely be overlooking the obvious here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure why or how, but I received an error message from w/in the EP module with a "click here" to correct link. After clicking the link, EP did another export of my data and all was well.
No clue what was wrong w/ first one but all is well now.
I found the answer to my own question at Langer's modhole.com site. It was a security issue with the web server who easily took care of it. Since Langer seems to be absent these days here at Zen place, maybe busy updating releasing EasyPopulate Advanced Version, those seeking EP related answers may have better chance at his site.Quote:

Nothing shows up in the DB. I am trying to upload only one product in a category and it doesn't work. I don't know how to proceed.
I can download the EP file ok with the sample test products.

Ok, I need some help.
I have been using Zen Cart on a local test server for a while, and have moved it to a live test server to begin final testing before going totally live. Everything worked fine on my local test machine, I uploaded everything to the live machine and everything seemed to work fine there as well. I updated my products with EP and everything seemed fine.
I go away for a week, come back, and now I can't upload anything with EP. Depending on which browser I use, I get either the option to download the easypopulate.php file, get a connection lost error, or simply a page not found. I didn't change anything that I can recall, host says everything is ok on their end. I tried removing EP and re-installing several times, it seems to work ok, it downloads the latest inventory into a file for me, but I still can't update the file.
From what I can tell, the host uses PHP in CGI, and globals are off...would either of these be the problem?
PS. Server Info is as Follows:
PHP 4.4.2
MySQL 4.1.14 - standard
Apache 1.3.34
Zen 1.3.0.1
DB Patch level 1.3.0.1

Some issues I have experienced with ep:
can't download my database like before in ZC 1.2.7 using either EP2.7* or 1.2.5.
I used to be able to select entire categories using ZC 2.75, but this only allows me to export to temp file by sub category now. I have 43 main categories and many subcategories up to about 4 deep with 5500 plus products.
When I tried to download my entire database using EP1.2.5, I get error page 500. Would like to speed things up, but currently very slow and tedious operation is killing the time available.
Currently exporting to temp file on server with EP 2.75 in ZC 1.2.7 and downloading through FTP, editing and streamlining database; and uploading to new site ZC1.3 using EP1.2.5.

Was there ever a resolution to Easy Populate causing repeated Admin logins. I have used EP and love it, but now I can't use it and can't remove it. I have the latested recommended files for EP and ZC.

I use this method to kill/install EP:
I use Filezilla FTP, and open the local directory with the same version as on the server eg /include/languages/english/*.php and view both sets of directories. I then delete the files in their respective folders one by one or where possible all in the same directory on the server.
I then open the new version of ep 1.2.5 in Filezilla, and do the reverse of the above - either drag and drop one file at a time or whatever you prefer.
Do the install as required in admin->tools, and then configure in admin->configure
Use EP V1.2.5 with ZC V1.3.0.1. Mine has issues - sometimes prefers the upload direct from admin->tools->EP or upload to temp, and then type in the file name in its insert in db box. It also doesn't like to display what it has done and gives me the server error 500 code - but the work's done.

I did the same in the past and experienced similar logi issues. The login issues are gone, but try the manaula one at a time install. I have found that sometimes all files aren't there

I would like to know if there is a way to modify the ezpop model-categories dump, altering the categories for some products, and reload without creating linked products but acutally moving the product to another category.
I hope this makes sense. - Net, net use ezpop to move products to different categories without linking them.

It is my understanding that you would need to assign a different model # when you "copy" products to different categories (not linked), otherwise as you know they will be linked.

Admin worked well on my local machine, but EP would not work at all, I was constantly getting logged out. ZC shop worked OK on my PC, but only when contacted from "outside" computers - (Basic background info).
To solve the Admin logout problem I edited admin/configure.php to point to http://trenthaines.myphotos.cc and EP works fine, but I can't access Admin from my local PC. I have a question if anyone can help me; I have Zen v 1.2.7 running Easy populate version EP_v2_75a. It works great for what I need and I was able to upload many many items along with prices and descriptions etc.
Now I want to add in discounts. So through product price manager I set a new price for 2-15 kgs , another prcie for 16-135 kgs (product is sold per kg) and again it works great.
But the thought of doing this for 200+ items is daunting.
I imagine I can do it using Easy popluate but I cant see what fields to add or where to put the data. The price field I have is v_products_price. I would need another set of fields to specify

this would be repeated for every discount range I have.
Can this be done through Easy popluate or am I in for some long nights or data entry?

You may be able to do it through your phpMyadmin - you write a query to make the required adjustments. I know nothing about this, but have been able to apply min qty values to multiples of products (with help from the brother-in-law.), and then edit individual products in admin->categories that don't qualify
Maybe there's a mySQL forum or php forum that can help also:thumbsup:

I am busy with attributes, and there are a couple of fields that are not downloading when I create a temp file on the server.
- I would prefer to work with the price factor field as this is a percentage, and will involve less editing, if and when there are price changes. Currently it sees the price value field which I do not use as it involves a "rise per size" pricing structure - and this requires individual pricing entries per attribute as opposed to copy/pasting a percentage in the price factor field. Lots less work.
- Sort order - I set my sort order in admin-> attributes controller, but this field does not download
Should I edit this in the database? or is that too dangerous for a motor mechanic?:D

I'll address any unanswered questions in turn. regarding the dross not being dleted, this is a bug. Ignore the error message for now. You can, if you wish, remove the offending table names the function checks in /admin/includes/functions/extra_functions/easypopulate.php:

OK, I'm not sure what I'm doing here! I installed EP and it works great. I download the file, but then how do I open it into a column format? If I just doubleclick it, it opens in Word all messed up because it's a .txt file. If I specify I want it to open in OpenOffice, it still opens in the OpenOffice Writer. I cannot get it to open in the spreadsheet! What am I missing here? I know it's probably something so simple, but I can't figure it out!

OK, I finally found the answer to that in the old thread!
But in my column G, in every single row it says EOREOR, what does that mean? Also, this is a dumb question I know, but do I have to have a model number for this to work???
EOREOR works as end of entry mark, telling EP to move to next item. It's needed there.
It's been a while since i last used EP (waiting for advanced version release -hint-hint-), but i remember v_products_model must be unique for each item. Otherwise existing item is updated (=overwritten).

Aw dang it...lol. OK, so I just typed .txt at the end of the filename when I saved it and that forced it to be saved as a text file. I uploaded it and the upload worked...except...now I have 2 of every product! Is that because the products didn't have model numbers, and I added model numbers and uploaded? How can I fix that? I'm thinking that if I just upload a blank file, that will delete everything, and then I can upload the file with all the model numbers? I'm going to try, fingers crossed!
Umm yeah of course that won't work, sheesh. Getting late here :wacko:
Version 1.2.4 will only work if you use the model number as the reference. To delete products, use v_status = 9 for each product.
This is explained in the readme.txt and the install.txt, which are not particularly bloated. I recommend that you read these at least twice before you mangle your cart...
I did read through that when I started, it just wasn't quite what I wanted to do at that point so I kind of skipped over the delete products part, sorry.
I didn't realize I'd have to delete all my products before uploading the new file with the model numbers. I downloaded the file, added in model numbers to all my products, then when I uploaded it, I had two of each product! So I guess I will have to delete all my products and then reupload the new file, have I got it right now?
I have duplicated my store on my server as well, so I'm not actually doing this on my "real" store :)
If a product does not have a model number, you cannot manage it with Easy Populate. This will change with the soon to be released Advanced version.

I am selling photographs from my side, managing all the uploads with EP (EP Advance2.75b-ten-Cart 1.2.7) So far I am very happy about thist workflow. But - as all pictures are only downloadable files I am seeking for a way to set the proper information into the attributes-manager via EP, because I think it's a long job to add them all manually (some thousand pictures...) Can somebody give me a hint?

yes - it uses Zen Cart's native delete function, which also deletes images. The new one will not unless a different status is used.
