Stocks by attributes

I read all the info in the archive forums and cannot figure out if it can do what I want:

I did install the Contribution (thank you for making it) and am now testing it, however I have the same problem as many other people:

- when a size or color (I sell clothes) is out of stock the unavailable color/size still shows on the product page, people can still add it to their cart and it is only there that they have an "out of stock" message.

Would it be possible to have a check on availability to only display a color/size when it is in stock. For example:

a person would need to first pick their color and the size drop-down menu would then automatically display ONLY available sizes. Pick another color and "hop" the size drop-down box automatically displays whatever sizes are available for that color.


Another suggestion:
- could we have the contribution work directly on the product page, i.e. add the attributes from the product page and with the possibility to modify stocks directly for all (vs. 1 by 1). I guess it would look something like this:

Red:
S = X
M = X
L = X
XL = X

Where X would be a box where we can manually update the stock level at once.

PPS: I need a solution implemented ASAP and would gladly hire someone to help me out with that.

Where do I have read that before? =) You are not the only one who wants this feature. But thats not possible at this time. Making that would involve a lot of work, some guys suggested AJAX to autopopulate dropdown menus depending on the opcion picked.

So in the meantime, letting the users click back once they are in the shopping cart is the only way.

I'm not sure why you would need this. If you do not set up a variant in Catalog->Product with Attributes Stock then it assumes quantity=0 from a functionality standpoint in the catalog. In other words, doing nothing will lead to an Insufficient Stock message in the customers shopping cart. Am I still missing the boat?:lookaroun

Curious if anyone else uses PWAS with the Froogle mod and has run into the trouble of Froogle denying feeds because of out of stock items.

I had to go in and delete all the variants w/ zero quantity (or manually edit my feed) in order to get it accepted by Froogle. I hate to do that because those zero quantities gave me a nice place to quickly scan for out of stocks when reorder time came around. It may be significant that it was my first Froogle submission. I know they pay more attention the first time around.

I'm also wondering if anybody has looked at generating stock level reports based on this mod. Any thoughts?

The one I can find on the previous thread is quite old. I need this mod urgently on my 1.3.01 store, because I can't go live without it. We sell MANY products that are sold by attribute.

I will certainly post the updates after I have made it work.

If you are working on an update, I am happy to finish it for you. I really don't want to re-invent the wheel.

This contrib has been working fine for me so far, but now I've started fiddeling around with multiple attributes.

Say for instance that I'm trying to add the following:

A red t-shirt available in S, M, L, XL
And the same sizes for a green t-shirt.

I add the variants but end up with attributes showing as

Color:
Red [ In stock ]
Red [ In stock ]
Red [ In stock ]
Red [ In stock ]
Green [ In stock ]
Green [ In stock ]
Green [ In stock ]
Green [ In stock ]


Size:
An empty radiobox. (!?!)

Did you add the option values for "Size"? You have to do it before adding variants. Go to Catalog/Option Value Manager and, there, add S, M, L, XL.

so does this mod work with the newest zencart or does it not?!?!

No, it breaks 1.3.x. I believe there are some folks out there attempting to get it working though.

He has sent me the changed files. I finally got a clean version of Zen Cart 1.3.0.2 loaded up, installed the mod successfully, and packaged it all up with a nice little bow. I am going to email it back to him for final approval before submitting to the downloads section, but anybody who is foaming at the mouth to get this is welcome to email/pm me for a copy. If I get the chance I will put up a download, but right now the family is giving me the evil eye:smile:

fix_cache_key.php goes directly in the store root. So, if your store is in /catalog it will go there. My store is directly in public_html, so it went in /public_html.

Comment on the sql update included in the package.
The first line to create the table says:

CREATE TABLE `zen_products_with_attributes_stock` (

If your sql database automatically ammends with zen_ then you will wind up with a table called:
zen_zen_products_with_attributes_stock

I assume the module is looking for a table called:
zen_products_with_attributes_stock

so i have deleted the 1st table created and recreated a new one with only one zen_

Haven't gotten any further with the install yet though to confirm.

FYI, a winmerge comparison indicates that the attribute_controller used in this mod matches that of the improved attributes controller :) so it seems they are indeed compatible :)

Hi i have one problem,
when I install contrib STOCK BY ATTRIBUTES on fresh install ZC 1.3.0.2 it run well, when I add Image Handler, stock by attribute not work...

I am running both Stocks by attribute and Image handler. I was certain to compare all files before uploading as some file changes for various modules may be overwritten by others.

I do have a question.
I have started adding test products now to test both the stock by attribute as well as my payment functionality :)

The bad news is, I was wondering if this module should indicate stock quantity on the product page similar to how it works on 1.2.7

I have made one size out of stock, and one size has a qty of 2.

I was hoping to see in the dropdown box the quantity available in brackets or some other flag.

oh gads. A close review of the module for v1.2.7 indicates that this trick I'm requesting is not a part of the regular build.

Not only that, but there are significant differences between v 1.3 and 1.2.7 that make it impossible for someone of my serious lack of PHP skills to figure out how to make it work :(

Unfortunately the main_template_vars.php file is significantly different and values are called completely differently in v1.3

General Comment:
If you install this module, all products that you have attributes for will have to have their quantities set using this module.

Even those that only have 1 attribute (such as a downloadable product).

When I deleted my "test purchases" I clicked to have quantities added back, but they just add them to the total quantity - rather than back to the attribute stock.

I'm guessing not because my cart is acting the same way, and it has absolutely no other modifications to it other than this mod. I know he was asking around before he released this, so he must not have found the solution.
In the read me file by dafonz he made it sound as though it was an easy addition, but my PHP skills...oh wait, I don't have any PHP skills, lol.

i just installed this mod and i notice that when adding no-attributes-product to my cart, the system wont validate the no-attributes-product for having enough stock to fill the order and this happened after changing the quantity in my shopping cart and refresh it! :dontgetit someone plz help me because i already uploaded it to my live server...ahh,why i didn't check it carefully!:cry:

oh dear. I noticed this too. Unfortunately I don't know what the fix might be.

Additional "bug"
While this mod does support multiple product attributes for stocking, it seems the attributes can't be dependant on another...
Or I can't figure out how to make it work.

For example, if you look at this gift certificate:

the Processing Fee was *supposed* to be a radio button - but it does not appear as such.

I am in the midst of trying to stock another Gift Certificate (Printable) - I would like for the customers to be able to select what file type their printable certificate is available in, however it seems this mod will not allow me to do so. (neither radio button nor dropdown will appear properly)

This is due to the fact that the original code for checking the stock is disabled in the cart.
You can either do a workaround by adding an attribute to all items in your store - or you can put some comments on top of your shopping cart that indicate if there is difficulty checking out it is due to items possibly being out of stock.

I do not know what would happen if you simply reinstate the commented out code.

i just found the fix yesterday (our local time!), you need to alter this file header.php in includes\modules\pages\shopping_cart! find these code $attributeHiddenField = ""; (around line 73) and put back (just beneath it) the following code;

if (STOCK_CHECK == 'true') {
$flagStockCheck = zen_check_stock($products[$i]['id'], $products[$i]['quantity']);
if ($flagStockCheck == true) {
$flagAnyOutOfStock = true;
}
}

that should do it! mine works nicely... :thumbsup:

I have actually done the work around (by adding a single attribute to the products that originally didnt have any)
Will keep this in mind for the future, though I think I might be upgrading the shop when the Zen Team puts out the next release with their stock by attribute! Though that task is much too large for me to contemplate just yet.

yup, it is because you have to define the stock quantity for each of the product variant. that's the reason it built for! any new idea perhaps... :happy:

Do you have products with more than one attribute? If I remember correctly, the fixes you are referencing do not work for products with multiple attributes. I'd would love to be wrong on this one!

Oh how i have waited for this day!! LOL, i havent been able to upgrade my v1.2.6d zencart because i need the products with attribute stock contribution!

I've asked tajul_ashyqin for a copy of the file so i can have a look over it, but now i got the HUGE job of remaking all the templates from 1.2 to 1.3!

I hope this works because (hopefully) it should make the site load quicker as it will be xhtml compliant (as far as i know) and not the strange menagerie of tables it was, well is for me :)

Hi Audra - yeah :( I belatedly discovered it's because I have products with more than one attribute. Unfortunatley the majority of the products have only 1 attribute and I need to be able to display the quantity available. So I've had to kind of hack around and "make do"

Looks like there was a bit of erroneous data in the file:

admin/includes/header.php

The "ss" at the beginning of the file is showing up in the upper left corner of the admin panel. Just edit the file, deleting the "ss" to make it disappear.

The mod has yet to hit the downloads, but when it does I will try to get the file updated.

Hi all, in need of help as usual :-)
There are a few things I'd like to tweak but don't know how to achieve them.

1. I don't appear to be receiving low stock emails for products with attributes. It works fine for products that do NOT have attributes.

2. My *Stock Level Warning* message does not appear in red against products WITH attributes, but it is against products that do NOT have attributes.

3. I would like to be able to show the amount of stock available in the shopping cart when there is a stock level problem.
e.g. *Stock Level Warning* (6)
I don't want to display the stock level on the Product Info page, only in the shopping cart when there is a stock level problem.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd be willing to try them out.

I've attached a screenshot to help show what I mean.

But I also have the same problem as Bunster, no mail when the product are low on stock, not even the ones without the attributes. Any ideas ?

Also, if a product with an attribute are low on stock, lets say size 36 (shoes) but there are still plenty of size 37-40, I would like this size 36 to be shown under Reports -> Product Stock Report, is this possible ?

Plus, also what Bunster said, it would be super if it was shown on the shop that the size 36 were out of stock and maybe not possible to order it... But it's good also that it's shown in the cart...

I also noticed that if I delete an order with attributes and I check the box called "Restock product quantity", the quantity doesn't return to the stock... Could this be done somehow ?

could some one please explain how the stock_attributes column in the table product_with-attribute_stock can be translated back to work out the name (value) of the attribute option.


I am trying to run a stock management / order processing system using the mysql database but run it locally in MS Access but cannot understand how to extract /interpret the values in this field.


(before you start asking why MS Access - my html and php and mysql skills are not good enough to get the automated functionality that I know how to write/get out of an Access database and I need an order processing stock management system / functionallity that I can seem to see in zen cart)

Unless of course some one has some ideas and suggestions on how to manage my purchasing.

Have anyone DUAL PRICES (wholesale price) and this STOCKS BY ATTRIBUTES?
I have problem, when I add Dual Prices contrib, STOCKS BY ATTRIBUTES stop function.

Have installed "Stock Attribute v3.01" w/ "ZC 1.3.0.2"

Works great with only one attribute, but on product w/ 2 attributes
in drop down form:

Products marked with *** are out of stock.
Items not in stock will be placed on backorder.

(even though each variant has been populated with stock from

Total Quantity for all variants shows correctly initially & does update
based on "sale" of item/s, even for items tagged with incorrect "***out of stock warning"
Quantity for individual variants does not update, however based on "sale" of said product variant.

SUMMARY: with "Stock Attribute v3.01" installed;

• 1) Works fine with one attribute only.
• 2) However, "test-customer" gets "Out of Stock message" for product variants that are actually "IN STOCK".

This occurs with any product that has more than attribute w/ drop-down style input form.
Test-customer is incorrectly warned that product is out of stock.

Have read 30+ pages of forum and in spite of this bug being referred to previously--
i can't track down the fix for the current version of Stock Attribute v3.01 --any clues?? --data base table set-up via SQL patch, permissions, missed step in config?? or some other oversite--obvious or otherwise?? :wacko:

We'd appreciate any feedback or links to solution.

Try this, i had the same prob;

looks like the name of your db is "verynyc_zc3" ,right?
and you've added that name to "stock_attribute.sql"
re-edit the SQL patch and remove "zen_" leave the "." period

save and re-apply patch-- when you've done this--
go to admin | Catalog | Products with Attributes Stock

no guarantees, just seems to be the same prob, i had
with properly removing the default prefix in the "stock_attribute.sql" file
and renaming with " your db name"

yes, but probably named incorrectly, so can't be called

I do know that the original PWAS by Dafonz was NOT compatible w/ Dual Prices, so I'm not surprised to hear that you are having trouble. I thought someone was working on getting the two to work together way back when, but I don't think it ever happenned. Take a look at the archived thread for Dual Prices.

One thing I think of is to make sure that your templates/tpl_shopping_cart_default.php is correct. And also maybe just reload all of the files for the mod. Sometimes just one file can be forgotten....

Did you do any of the adjustments that were suggested in the older thread? Perhaps you're mixing a change with 1.2.6 for this version?

it isn't automatic. It requires additional coding and it doesn't work for tierd attributes. I can't remember if I posted about it earlier in this thread.

OK, so how would I transfer the data for this mod from my 1.2.7 database to the 1.3.0.2 database? Or does it all have to be manually entered again in the admin?

Nevermind, I figured it out :) The database patch is the same I guess, so it just automatically transferred them over when I upgraded the database. It wasn't showing before because for some reason the files didn't upload correctly into cpanel!

In your admin, under Configuration-Stock, you will see an option called Mark Product Out Of Stock. That is where you would enter *** or whatever you would like to use as an out of stock symbol.

Yes, Admin > Configuration > Stock > Mark Product Out of Stock is set to ***
But it doesnt show on checkout :(

Hmmm...I'm not sure :( Are the other settings in that stock area correct? Is the store set to check stock level and subtract stock?

I got it! It appears that the header.php at includes\modules\pages\shopping_cart
didnt uploaded properly. I just upload the header.php file again without changing anything and its working!

I've installed StockAttribute 1.3 on my local server for testing and it works fine.
Now I've tried to install on another local server where I've deleted the English language (only from Admin - I use only Italian) and where the database was populated with articles, and the module show only the menu bar (Product ID Product Name Quantity of all variants Add Quantity For Product Variant Sync Quantities) but without listings data. It not recognizes the data.

I was thinking the problem is the language I've deleted. Then I've reintegrated the English language again from the Admin but the results is the same: no data.

There is a way to fix the database?

I've uploaded the backup, the problem is only with the module, I can see categories, articles on the shop...
I think if I want to use this module on this db I need to reinstall and inserts again all articles and use also the English language...

The only think I can think is if there were language files in the package, these would also have to be applied to your other languages. Unfortuantely I don't code myself (and my shop is only in English), but that is the only explaination that I can think of.

You may change in phpmyadmin your language to ID=1

or

change to your laguage id in this php files

But, it doesn't seem to like fractional quantites for the products. We sell quite a few items by the yard, with a 1/2 yard minimum order. It looks as if orders placed for a fractional quantity are not being subtracted from the products with attributes section, and it's wreaking some havoc on our remaining stock counts. It's working beautifully for whole number quantities, just not fractions. Is there a way to allow for an attribute quantity less than 1? I already have the fractional quantities working for my overall inventory count - just need to get it working by attribute.

As far as I can tell attribute quantities are whole units. I'm guessing you might have to set your unit of measure to 1/4 or 1/2 yard increments in order for it to work :(

Well, I've got the units set to .5 yards for all items sold that way, and it works fine for products without attributes. I've looked in the files for the stock by attributes mod for a decimal or unit designation, but I haven't found anything. But, I probably have no idea what I'm looking for! I'm sure there must be a way to adjust the unit for the attributes - I'm just not savvy enough to know where that is...
