User tracking mod

I'm in the process of upgrading to 1.3.0.1 from 1.2.6, and translating the english files to swedish (8815 lines of code...) and fixing the other mods I've installed.

Please bear with me, this will take a while.

In the meantime, post problems and solutions to the usertracking mod in this thread.

Well, here I am again..... I am using 1.2.7 and have tried to addon the USER TRACKING without much success except errors. Now I know that 'sometimes' I can read too much into something, however let me tell you what I have and what my errors are:

I have UT ver user_tracking_20060114, I downloaded, unzipped and uploaded to my server. Now I uploaded the files to zencart/user_tracking/ and was wondering if I was supposed t use the whole user_tracking_20060114 so the user_tracking is a subdir of it?

I also used the Install SQL Patches to upload the user_tracking_FULL_20060114.sql and recieved a result of '8 files (or something like that) updated or installed' so it appears that this went off OK.

I added the .php lines to the end of the tpl_footer.php and when I try to load a page I get this at the bottom of the page:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: zen_update_user_tracking() in

/home/hatnpatc/public_html/zencart/includes/templates/template_default/common/tpl_footer.php on line 88

I read EVERYTHING in the archives concerning this contrib and also tried to re-upload my admin files but still get:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: zen_update_user_tracking() in /home/hatnpatc/public_html/zencart/includes/templates/template_default/common/tpl_footer.php on line 88

Additionally, there is no link for the User Update appearing in my Admin/Tools menu.

I am sorry to put so much stuff here, but feel too much is better than not enough.

I am a relatively new 'Zenner' and have the same amount of time using PHP so learning lots but still quite a bit is foreign to me.

Yea,. i live by User Tracking.. thank you very much btw...

I've had no problems with it on 1.3.0.x..

I installed this tonight on my store with no problem. Except! In reading through the archived thread it says that it shows where your customer was referred from. Mine does not.

I saw something about IIS or some such but I have no idea what that is. I didn't see anything in the config to change. Am I missing something? And how do I find out if "IIS" has something to do with it? Is that a host? (I'm on aplus.net btw)

Hi I have the user tracking installed and I had it working, then I had to edit my footer and lost the code, i have tried to put the code back on but it seems to just display the text on my site could you please direct me to where in the footer should i place it i have tried it at the very end and in another few places but the text still shows. I am using 1.3.01. I would appreciate any help given, thanks, yours Marie

Search for foo in the file. You will most likly see a remark symbols missing in front of it. Or a footer.php message got cut in half.

I just installed this mod and i clicked on Tools->User Tracking, i got message below after the installaltion,

am i supposed to see that message after installation?

I just downloaded this mod from the prior link, and when I went to unshrink it, my Cox Security Suite came up with a Virus Alert and stopped it. Now I'm thinking the files are ok being what they do, but am naturally concerned beings I have "NEVER" got any virus alerts before.

I searched the forums and found this in archive;

Norton internet security finds no issue with the download. If I were you, I would send the file in question to COX and ask them why.

Well, I don't have that much anxiety over the security flag. Have you ever tried communicating with CoX? I went ahead and installed and when I got the sql patch uploaded I got this error;

1062 Duplicate entry '469' for key 1

Ok, before you all jump on this, I now relize I needed to edit the sql file that was in the contrib itself. I was looking everywhere else but the file itself. It was in my own quote! Yea, like you never could find your glasses when they were resting on your nose.

Now I am going to try and fix my unsussesful sql installs and hope not to create any damages to DB, although it appears and checks ok.

(yea I backed up) but i want to learn how to repair. I see referances to other contrib causing simlar conficts so I'll need to learn how this works and what undos are available besides reinstal backup.

These are my clues;

error first try

1062 Duplicate entry '469' for key 1
(original sql.)

#2nd try sql instal
(only changed 469 to 950)

1062 Duplicate entry '470' for key 1


# 3rd try
and after changing all 469+ referances starting with 469 to 950, for 470 into 951, 470 to 952, - etc.

I got;

6 statements processed.
ERROR: Cannot create table user_tracking because it already exists
ERROR: Cannot insert configuration_key "ADMIN_CONFIG_USER_TRACKING" because it already exists
ERROR: Cannot insert configuration_key "CONFIG_USER_TRACKING_EXCLUDED" because it already exists
Note: 3 statements ignored. See "upgrade_exceptions" table for additional details.


The zen admin user tracking entrys are there, the file code is in footer, but nothing is recording and user tracking appears turned off when I look at it in phpMyAdmin.

So off I go to consult the search wizards and reread what I read until it sinks in.

Just to follow up, I did the edits to sql file, and just reinstalled the attatched files, again. I must have left some file out before as it all is working good now.

Ok got this installed. Not getting any error messages but there is no data showing up when i go to the page. Is there something i am missing?

But seriously I've had quite a bit of traffic over the few days it's been installed and several sales but yet nothing is recorded. Did i mis the ON button?

See if the required modification in the file named tpl_footer.php was done as the readme.txt sais it should be done.

I have a site which gets about 50,000 hits per day - at which point User Tracking is unable to display anything other than a blank web page. If I Truncate the user_tracking table - all is fine again until the numbers rise to those kinds of figures (haven't nailed down how many thousand it takes to 'blow it up'), when once again, we get a blank page.

We will investigate the code.

hi Everybody. I'm a newbie so bear with me. I am having the same problem (getting a blank page). I love the tracking when it works, but I keep getting this problem. My zencart guys sugested I put a message in here. Is there any hope on the horizon here??

Just updated to user tracking 20060114_1. In the older version the shopping cart records remained in user tracking for quite some time. I noticed today that within minutes after a sale the user tracking didn't display cart contents anymore. I am not sure if it actually works.

Question

Can anyone tell me how long the cart contents remain viewable in user tracking after some has put something in the cart?

Hope I haven't confused anyone!!

BTW am using the latest version of zen 1.3.02

Just checking... as suggested in the readme, did you make the edit at the end of /includes/templates/YOUR TEMPLATE/common/tpl_footer.php ??

User tracking mod is incredibly slow as written. There's a few reason for it.

First, dates are being stored as a varchar. That's bad, but workable.
Second, there's no useful index in the table. To fix this, either use phpmyadmin to add an index on session_id, or use install sql patches in the zc admin to run the following:

You will need to change `user_tracking` to include any table prefix, if you're using one.

This will speed up the User tracking admin page by a ton, with a slight increase in mysql table size.

Now if I can get the UT Config to show up and be accessible from the Admin > Tools menu in Zen Cart 1.3.0.2 I would be set to go.

(I just installed User Tracking 20060114 on a fresh Zen Cart 1.3.0.2 install).

User Tracking is suppose to display two admin menus under Tools "User Tracking" and "User Tracking Config". I can see/access the "User Tracking" under Tools admin menu just fine. But cannot see/access "User Tracking Config", under Configuration or Tools menus.

It appears the sql packaged with User Tracking mod places the "User Tracking Config" admin menu entry under the Admin -> Tools. While it appears the "box file" for the "User Tracking Config" is set up to point to Admin -> Configuration.

Previously I was able to overcome the UT menu issues on ZC 1.27 and 1.3.01 since they were ZC upgrades previous correct UT mod info was retained in database. And on those versions I had employed Admin Levels and then later Admin Profiles mods, and was able to successfully access the UT Config menu.

But not on a fresh ZC 1.30.2 install.

Have just reviewed this thread and the archived support thread at

but still not sure how to resolve.

So after a bit of editing of the UT "box" file in extra_boxes (via instructions provided by Kuroi in his Admin Profiles 1.03 mod) I was able to see and access the User Tracking Config menu under Admin Tools.

Here is what I did:

I changed the SECOND entry in /admin/includes/boxes/extra_boxes/user_tracking_tools_dhtml.php:

FROM:
$za_contents[] = array('text' => BOX_TOOLS_USER_TRACKING_CONFIG, 'link' => zen_href_link(FILENAME_CONFIGURATION, 'gID=999', 'NONSSL'));

TO:
$za_contents[] = array('text' => BOX_TOOLS_USER_TRACKING_CONFIG, 'link' => zen_href_link(FILENAME_USER_TRACKING_CONFIG, 'gID=999', 'NONSSL'));

After this adjustment the mod's "User Tracking Config" menu entry displayed correctly under Tools and the menu dialog could be accessed.

However the items on the "User Tracking Config" menu dialog are not accessible as they point to the /admin/configuration.php.

For example placing cursor over the "User Tracking Visitors" action button on the User Tracking Configuration dialog I see the URL pointed to is:

I don't understand the referecne to gID=999

I do see in the configuration table id=533 is for UserTracking Visitors

I really don't understand the full complexities of adding mods to the admin menus (e.g,. Configuration or Tools). Is there a doc avaialble exclaining the process or which might help me repair my issue.

3. Did you encounter any error messages when you ran the SQL for the mod?

4. Try re-running ALL of the commands in the "full" SQL file, EXCEPT the "DROP TABLE... and CREATE TABLE... statements. .... so ... start from the "DELETE FROM.... all the way to the end.
Individual SQL statements end with a ;
RUn each one individually via phpMyAdmin to be sure you don't get errors. If you do, report them all back here.

Yes (guess I should have been more clear on that). I have latest AP version installed (1.03).

Many folks have had the same trouble with the UT Config menu showing up in admin when running when Admin Profiles (or previous Admin Levels) was installed. Not an expert on this but pretty certain it is not an Admin Profiles (or Admin Levels) issue, but an ongoing unresloved issue with the User Tracking installer configuration. Hoping we can narrow it down.

First, before running the SQL as recommended above I already see the five expected User Tracking entries in the "Configuration" table (configuration_id's 533-537). I've verified everyhthing shows up in the DB as instructed by the full-install SQL.

So not sure exactly what re-running the SQL again will do. Anyway, after I ran the recommended SQL via phpmyadmin I observed "Your SQL query has been executed successfully". No errors.

Again I'm pretty sure this is an ongoing installer config issue in the User Tracking distribution. (Many have observed same issue over past six months). Again I lucked out with previous UT install on another shop since I had the earlier "Advanced User Tracking" installed (purchased from tobyd) which had correct entries in database. And those correct DB entries remained when migrated to Pingheads version and while upgrading Zen Cart from 1.24, to 1.25, 1.26, 1.27, to 1.30, 1.3.01 and then to 1.3.0.2.

But on a fresh install of ZC 1.3.0.2 I observe the User Tracking Config admin menu wickedness ;-)

It doesn't really matter where "User Tracking Config" shows up in admin, under Configuration or Tools, I'll just be happy to have it to show up in either location and work ;-)

Any standards documentation available for "ZC mod developers" on how to set up mod installation for Zen Cart? Or does current version of ZC support same installer processes that work for developing mods for OSC?

I just had to go into the admin permissions section and grant permission for the file to show.

Yes that is all I had to do on the upgraded shop running Admin Profiles.

But on fresh 1.3.0.2 install "User Tracking Config" does not appear in Admin Settings > Edit Permissions (for master admin account or any other accounts). "User Tracking" shows but not "User Tracking Config".

Once I followed Kuroi's recommend to create an updated box file for the mod (in his instructions titled "Updating box files - a step-by-step guide") I was able to make "User Tracking Config" appear in the Admin > Tools menu (had to implement my edits as previously noted). But the links in the "User Tracking Config" dialog do not work. Instead the browser is redirected to http://www.mydomain.com/shop/admin/denied.php

Sure this is something simple in the User Tracking installer set-up, just cannot put my finger on it.

All my other mods admin menus show up just fine.

Wishing I knew more about the process of how to insert mod specific menus into the Zen Cart admin menu system.

The config part is driven by access to /admin/configuration.php ... which is restricted by the admin profiles mod.
That's the crux of the issue.

For pages that are run via dedicated /admin/xxxxx.php files, using the /admin/includes/boxes/extra_boxes approach is the way.

The user-tracking-config option is a creative twist on the use of the normal access of the Admin->Configuration menu. Props to the designer for creativity. Well done. Too bad it bypasses traditional methods and thus the Admin Profiles mod doesn't recognize it in order to present it to you for configuration. I haven't read the post about how to retrofit the admin profiles mod to support it, but that's where you need to go to fix it.

Or just turn off Admin profiles for the one-time configuration you're trying to do... and then turn it back on again.

OK now I see I was too quick to judge. So we have a compatibility issue between Admin Profiles and User Tracking. Just noting in this thread and the archived UT thread many people haiving same issue and did not note a solution or workaround.

Actually it's not a post. It's a short text file included in Admin Profiles 1.03 distribution "updating box files (a step-by-step guide).txt", if anyone wants to check out.

I followed instructions in that document and was the basis of my previously mentioned edits that allowed me to access "User Tracking Config" under the Tools menu.

But it did not solve accessing links on the User Tracking dialog, specifically:

I do not see any switch or easy method to disable. Or are you recommending uninstalling AP just to make minor UT Config changes and then reinstall AP? I am certain there is a better solution ;-)

Any others out there that have Admin Profiles and User Tracking working together whom have observed issue with "User Trackign Config" not showing up in admin menus? And anyone solved or created convenient workaround?

I see the five UT entries in the database's "configuration" table, have configuration_group_id set to 999.

Whereas all other items in that table configuration_group_id is set to 1.


Also I see in the "admin_files" table:

Two Notes:
(1) the "blank" entry (id=91) appears to have been created during the install of User Tracking. I don't understand?
(2) "configuration" shows up in this list. Appears to be related to the links on the "User Tracking Config" dialog?

One other item I just noticed. In the Admin Profiles full-install SQL for the "admin_files" table I do not observe an item with id=77. However I do observe an entry in Admin Profiles full-install SQL for "admin_allowed_pages" table for id=77

Also wondering why the links on the "User Tracking" menu & links on the dialog interface are implemented in admin with "traditional methods", yet the "User Tracking Config" menu and links on that dialog interface are implemented with the "creative twist".

BTW please don't take my posting on this issue as criticism. Both User Tracking and Admin Profiles are great mods. I'm just asking questions, searching for solution so AP and UT and co-habitate ;-)

Also I'm posting this in UT support forum as I've noted posts here from others having same issue. (I have not observed similar posts in AP support forum).

Testing right now...

SUCCESS! Works great! "User Tracking Config" now shows up under Admin > Tools and all the entires on the UT Config admin dialog work.

I've read and reread through the AP and UT support threads (and both archive threads) today to see if I could find a solution. I'm glad you did as I was starting to burn out on this subject (and I'm sure everyone was tired of me blabbering on about the issue).

A number of people observing the same issue will also be happy to hear of your effort, and I'm sure everyone else that comes along and installs both AP and UT.

Please post announce of your excellent update to the Admin Profiles support thread and maybe also PM Peter and Petter ;-).

"User Tracking Config" also disappears from the Tools menu when the User Tracking Config admin page is open

That issue may have to wait. It's partly related to the "twist" used in storing those menu options.

It'll be much easier to resolve as a result of our Admin Rewrite later in our Roadmap...

That issue may have to wait. It's partly related to the "twist" used in storing those menu options.

It'll be much easier to resolve as a result of our Admin Rewrite later in our Roadmap...

Having another problem with mod. Well in fact this prob has been ongoing for some time for now, but initially I thought may have been a server issue but I am not so sure anymore.

Problem I have is that 9 times out of 10, I would get diverted to the following error page

I only get this problem with User Tracking so I am wondering if something is not right in the coding.

After giving some thought as to why this might be happening, I was able to determine that problems really only started since installed mods "login box" and "sitemap with ezpages"

Does any one know if this mod conflicts with other mods with the exception of Admin Profiles

I have contacted my web hosting company and they browsed through my pages and they said they never got that page as all browsed pages loaded fine. They also seem to think that I may be a timing out. I think maybe it might be more of an admin problem!

I uploaded the mysql patch that GDorn suggested earlier in the thread but made no difference to my problem.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this may be happening?

You didn't state whether your customers are seeing that, or if you're only seeing it when you try to view UT data in the Admin.

What does your server's errorlog say when that error appears?

Bit of an update. Woke this morning logged into admin as I normally do, when into my user tracking and hey presto no problem I had been having this problem for days and in the end getting very frustrated with user tracking. Now I only patched the mysql with GDorn altered suggestion late last night. Was still having problem. Maybe I had to reboot in order for the patch to work, although I wouldn't have thought so.

I just hope that I haven't spoke too soon!!

Not sure as the error log only shows last 300 errors (I got lots error last night lol) as the server went down the last 10 minutes before I got fed up, logged off and went to bed. I have no idea how long it was down for, but it was up and running this morning.

Might consider this resolved for now as it seems to be running like a charm at the moment. But as said earlier it may also be a case of speaking too soon!! We'll see :D

But i always use firefox, and when the Originating URL contains a url with many many characters, the url won't wrap.

In Internet Explorer the Originating URL does wrap.

As told i use firefox and it is a little bit irritating that the url wont wrap, so is there someone who can tel me how to change this?

In my firefox (1.5.0.6) the url wraps.

Same here but I too have had this problem in the past. Was never a big issue so never paid much attention to it but at some point it disappeared and as the user tracking mod wasn't changed it could well be down to FF version.

It isn't a issue. But it is more a nice to have then a must have.

- added new switch in UT-Config to allow disabling of the gethostbyname lookup, thus allowing faster display without showing host domain names of IP addresses
- Note: installation instructions updated to add a check for whether the zen_update_user_tracking() function exists. If it doesn't exist, no error will display. Thus if mod isn't installed then no errors on screen.
- Added a note that the Admin Profiles mod has been adapted to properly handle permissions for User Tracking. Use it instead of Admin Levels mod if you are having problems.

I upgraded to the user_tracking_20060805 today and now it seems that the user tracker is missing to record som visitors :shocking:

There were no code changes related to "who" gets tracked.

One of the sites I have the v1.27d compatible version in is suddenly after working without error since installation is getting this error message:

1016 Can't open file: 'user_tracking.MYI' (errno: 145)

I can't find such a file.

Any ideas as to how to fix this?

This is database-corruption.
Run a database-repair either on that table or the entire database using your cPanel or phpMyAdmin.

I choose user tracking from the tools and can view the users however, when I click on View session I and brought to the admin login screen and need to log in again. Once I have logged in for the 2nd time I can navigate the sessions just fine.

Any idea what is causing this?
Its happening on 3 different computers 2 PCs in different locations IE and FF as well as on my Mac.

I have had this same problem right from the start except that for some reason it does not do this on my laptop and I am not sure as to why. I have had this issue for a long time, but didn't worry too much about it. I decided to post to let users know that this issue isn't isolated to a single person!!

I got something strange today.. And i have NOT done anything with the DB last 24 hour. No updates, have not even looked at it.... The user tracking have worked perfect all the time untill 00:00 last night.... I still can see all tracking till 00:00 last night but only an error for to day.

I did never had this problem :mellow:

I've been logged out before when clicking (the first time) to view a previous day's session too, but it doesn't seem to happen every time. Just logged in now and tried it again and didn't get logged out.

I just had it happen with another contribution that uses the tool menu. This leads me to believe it’s not isolated to this one.

I will try to recreate it and document it so I can bring it to the main forum as a question.

On the most part, this contrib. has been working very nice. But a couple of times, recently, I am seeing the end time and start time log 100's of hours of difference when not really happening. What made this really noticeable was a purchase several days prior. Then the same logs came up again after we already mailed out order. I concluded that it restated the session somehow when the log out timed itself for a future time.

Now today I see where someone's start time is two hours before their log out time, the time is going backwards!

Has anybody discovered this worm hole, time warp, or had a déjà vu type of experience? I am using the 20060114 version on 1.27d.

I have not tampered with the server time with time adjustment mods, thought about it a while back, but haven't done it. Maybe thats it, I shouldn't have thunk it.

"I just upgraded to ZenCart version 1.3.5 and user tacking version 20060805.

The admin visits are being added to the database and the admin's stats are being displayed but none of the guests are inserted into the database. So the table is created properly and inserts and queries are working. Tracking user visits is set to true in the user tracking config page.

User tracking was working before the updates.

Any ideas on what could be preventing the inserts of the visits?

I'm running 1.3.5 and the latest version of the mod. I'm wondering if I've misread the instructions for not recording data from certain sites. This is what I have in the "exclude IP addresses" entry:

24.238.79.216, 128.221.197.129,74.129.0.70,66.249.66.1/255,12.203.76.112,74.129.16.132,38.98.19.0/255,64.124.140.0/255

Yet when I look at the tracking report, I continue to get items such as:

66.249.66.231

Plus, when I try the purge function on those IP addresses, the entry isn't deleted.

Because the mod works on sessions I think you are seeing a person coming back from a previous bookmark with a stored session.
As well the display while only intending to display one 24 hour period goes back to the earliest click stored with that session whether thats the previous day or weeks.

I have noticed that with the host by address feature turned on that sometimes this mod appears to time out.

Just wondering out loud if it would be a good idea to store the host name in the database so this could be recalled for display instead of retrieving it each time by the host by address function each time the user tracking is displayed?

Zen-cart 1.3.5 would not allow a tracking record to be written to the database in our installation. We found by commenting out line 52 in user_tracking.php, the (skip this ip) check would be ignored and the record would be written to the database.

The question is, what would cause ($skip_this_ip == false) all of the time?

Having a problem though. Since about two days ago user_tracking.php just times out on me. It's always been a bit slow (lots of database records to retrieve, I understand,) but now it isn't responding at all.
Every other page on the site of course works fine.

Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

Um, begging your pardon but... how?

I don't see that option in the config.

I just installed the user tracking module. I had to make the db modifications manually, due to modification of the configuration db by another mod. I uploaded all files, made the necessary changes to the tpl_footer.php file, but no user tracking is occuring.

Is there something that I missed?

Has anyone done anything to produce a report from the data collected by this mod? I look at it all day long as I'm watching my site, and would love to be able to produce reports of the items people have visited, etc. Any ideas?

Yes, knuckle-101, I know about viewing sessions. What I was asking for was a reporting mechanism to show data from multiple sessions.

Ok, I have had something weird going on with my site. When I filter out my own ip, it doesn't pick up ony visitors. When I don't filter myself, it starts picking up visitors again! I was filtering myself and I didn't see anything under user tracking. I took out my ip and immediately I see visitors on my site. I check the 'Who's Online' and see these people have been online for a while.

Has anyone else experienced this?

On top of the problem previously stated, I had to turn recreate sessions off because some of my customers were having trouble logging in. But now, bots are appearing (and clogging up) my user tracking. I have checked and rechecked the config/sessions and verified that prevent spider sessions is true. I've also checked that the correct tracking code is in the footer. But the bots still popup.

I'm assumming that recreate sessions being off is causing the problem, that is when the bots started showing up. But I would love to hear from someone smarter than me about why this would happen, and what I could do to fix it.

Is the latest verion of this 20060805?

If not is there a link to a newer version before I install this one?

Zen Cart 1.3.5

Hi - I'm new to this great module and have a couple of questions and glitches.

Under the User Shopping Cart heading in admin/tools/user tracking I was seeing "no cart recorded" and "session expired" repeatedly and nothing else. This seemed a bit off so I ran an order to see what would be indicated. My existence was acknowledged (always nice) in terms of a recorded visit and my username displayed, however under User Shopping Cart "no cart recorded" was displayed, despite having placed an order.

Also, when I click on the "View Session" hyperlink, the admin closes and I'm sent to the admin login screen. This occurs each time.


Finally, does use of this module create a noticeable drag on resources? (as I've heard the Who's Online mod does)

I edited the tpl_footer.php file and uploaded all the folders/files the instructions say to, but when I go to "Install SQL patches" in Admin and browse for the user_tracking_FULL_20060805.sql file and then hit "Upload" I get this error. Hope I didn't mess something up. :lookaroun If it's easier/better, I know how to get to phpmyadmin but I don't know what to do there. Help?

Hopefully someone will let us know whats up. I was able to get the sql file for the older verson to load just fine. But it must not work correctly with the newer files that we uploaded because I can't get User Tracking to work. Everything is showing up in my admin (i think!), but it's obviously not tracking anything because I had my first sale today (woo hoo!) and it showed nothing. I'm glad you mentioned that this happened to you too because I thought it was just me!

I'm still having an issue with the section under the heading "User Shopping Cart". which views the activity within the cart. It always reads just "Session Expired" or "No Cart Recorded" even whan there are sales.

Does anyone know off-hand which php files directly affects this part of the mod?
