Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
How do I sell Gift Certificates?
In the Admin, make a new category called Gift Certificates. Add a product to the category called Gift Certificates.
On the Product Information Page fill in the blanks as follows:
Products Status:In Stock
Date Available: leave blank
Products Manufacturer: leave blank
Products Name: Gift Certificate
Product is Free: No
Product is Call for Price: No
Product Priced by Attributes: Yes No
This is up to you, if you choose to price by attributes you only need a single 'product'.
Tax Class: choose appropriate
Products Price (Net): Your price or zero if pricing by attibutes.
Products Price (Gross): figured automatically
Virtual Products do not have a shipping charge and do not require a shipping address such a Services, Gift Certificates, etc.
Always Free Shipping does not have a shipping charge, but do require a shipping address
Downloads are assumed to be Virtual Products - Neither option needs to be marked
Product is Virtual: Yes, Skip Shipping
Always Free Shipping: No, Normal Shipping Rules
Products Quantity Box Shows: Yes, Show
Product Qty Minimum: leave blank
Product Qty Maximum: 0 = Unlimited, 1 = No Qty
Boxes or Max ##
Product Qty Units: leave blank
Product Qty Min/Unit Mix: leave blank
Products Description: Your description.
Products Quantity: leave blank or put in a large number to track number sold.
If you are finding that you cannot add a Gift Certificate to your cart, try adding a quantity here!
Products Model: GIFT-xxxxx
The model MUST begin with GIFT
Note: GIFT absolutely, positively must be ALL CAPS
Products Image: Upload an image
Upload to directory: choose directory
Products URL: leave blank
Products Weight: leave blank
Save it.
Now go to Modules->Order Total and install and configure the gift certificate module.
HOW DOES IT WORK THEN ?
After the Administrator has approved the Gift Certificate (There's a "release" button in admin area if someone buys one), THEN the Gift Certificate funds are made available to the customer.
The customer can then USE those funds for themselves, OR they can email them to friend(s) via the links provided automatically in the store (esp shopping cart sidebox). They can email as much as they want, to various people, up to the amount they've purchased.

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
HI, thannk-you very much for the walk through on Gift Certificates, it is very useful, and easy to follow.
I set up as per the instructions, and it worked....... or @ least i thought it had ;)
i decided to test it using a dummy account, so i added to my cart, checked out etc.... and all was fine..
i then went into tyhe acct bit to send the G/V to a friend (another dummy account/email) however, it would not let me send the entire G/V amount, only 1 unit less than the total, ie £9 of a total of £10...
so i tried fto send the remaining £1, but it told me that i was entering an incorrect G.V amount .....
some bugs for new ver of Zencart??

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
For the long term, you can setup a demo shop to test the functions of Zen Cart and most important is to shorten the learning curve. Please note a demo environment can be setup in your PC also.
Then you can act like a customer, registered, login and buy the demo goods in your demo shop.
Return to the question,
For example, act as a customer of you demo shop and Buy a demo product of
Gift Certificate $100.00
And after finished all the checkout processes, the following report can find in the Adim Page of the:
Gift Certificate Release Queue
======================
Customers ___ Order-No. ___ Gift Certificate Value ##########__ Date Purchased
Throu See ##########___ 123 ####################___ $100.00 ##########__ 06/17/2006 21:39:19
And in the far right side of the screen can find something similar as follow:
[2] 06/17/2006 21:39:19 $100.00
=========================
[Release Gift] <== the button
Edit Order ID#123
[Order] <== the button
If the Shop Owner, that is you again, confirmed that the payment is valid!
Then you can press the the above button ==> [Release Gift] to relase the Gift Certificate.
Don't forget two things, you have to do if you released the Gift Certificate.
1. Update the Order Status from Pending to Delivered of the Order.
2. also Sent a mail to your customer to acknowledge the relase of the Gift Certificate.
.

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Morning seethrou,
Thanks so much for the details post.
I have been getting familiar with ZC with a demo version. upon setting up the store with blank products there was no gift certificates.
what is the link between ZC knowing that this is a certificate and not a general product, i have created a Gift cert according to Kims post.
but in the Gift Certificate Release Queue there isnt anything showing.
Craig
-
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Has someone purchased a Gift Certificate? The release doesn't show unless there is a GC to release.
-
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
I did a mock purchase on our site and purchased a GC, also went into admin and completed the sale as if it was paid for, then went to "Gift Certificate Release Queue" to release, and nothing shown.
Kim added to your instructions at top, how does ZC know what is a GC to put in que?
Craig
-
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
If you enter your product of GC correctly, then the switch is done by the code.
Did you missed some points by Kim's post.
Quote:
Products Model: GIFT-xxxxx
The model MUST begin with GIFT

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Yes have made the code
Gift-0010

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please

Yeah.... Thats a catch!!!
Gift-0010 has to be in capitals for it to work!!!!
GIFT-0010
Thanks Team.. you have done well..

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
It seems that i've found a bug or something!
I've done everything as mentioned here but still... even if i select no tax rate.. the default tax rate is always applied !!!
Is this hapening with anyone else? :dontgetit
If it is... does anyone has any clue on how to patch this? I really need no tax application of these gifts.. as... a 5 euro certificate should be only 5 euros.. not 5 euros + tax.
Btw.. my i'm using the latest patch release.
Thanks to all..

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please

hehehe... thats great. since were hot on the case.
Also dont forget to label your "Products Model:" with "GIFT-xxx" in CAPS. this will enable you to have Gifts show up in your "Gifts Certificate Que".
ie: my
$10.00 is GIFT-0010
$20.00 is GIFT-0020
$50.00 is GIFT-0050
etc....:wink2:

You can set the shopping-cart sidebox to "always show" via Admin->Configuration->Layout Settings->Shopping Cart Box Status = 0
Also, Gift Certificate funds can be managed by the customer from:
- My Account
- Gift Certificate FAQ page
- gv_send page
- and checkout_success page

This may be a dumb question but, does the Category have to be named "Gift Certificates"? Would it mess up the functionality if I named the category "Gifts" and added a few gift certificates and a few other gift type products?
Thanks,
Katie

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
No the Category can be called anything you like. The important piece is the Model, it must start with GIFTxxxx. (note all caps)

 I had followed all the instructions for setting up gift certificates but ended up with errors. Can someone plz help?
Following errors received:
Warning: This product is marked - Free Shipping and Skips Shipping Address
No shipping will be requested when all products in the order are Virtual Products
Warning: This product is marked - Free Shipping, Shipping Address Required
Free Shipping Module is required when all products in the order are Always Free Shipping Products.
I had updated the product even though these errors had occured then did a dummy test. During the process shipping method screen comes up.

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
To setup a Gift Certificate:
1 install the Modules ... Order Totals ... Gift Certificate module
2 Create a Product with the products_model as:
GIFTXXXXX
where the XXXXX can be text, numbers, upper or lower case but the GIFT must be upper case ...
3 Mark the Product as:
Product is Virtual: Yes, Skip Shipping Address
Always Free Shipping: No, Normal Shipping Rules

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
*Jumping in with another question here*
If you let the attributes set the price, how does it come up with different price options, ie 5, 10, 15, 20, 50? Or is it just a box for the customer to fill in their own price?
I'd love to have one GC product with checkbox options for diff. amounts. How can I do that?
TIA!
-
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
As the demo data is setup, this has a Gift Certificate setup as you described ... so you can see how various products are built ...
The Attributes are set to the values in the increments ...
Then the customer picks the Gift Certificate amount ... plus they can pick how many they want in that amount ...
NOTE: we do recommend everyone to setup a test database with a test directory with the demo data installed so that you can see and test this and all of the other features and capabilities of Zen Cart based on pre-configured data to help you see how things work and open the door to new possibilities ...

Hi Dr Byte
you have right to manage in this files.
but suppose a client send some of his balance to somebody else, this will automatically debit from his caccount balance. but if the receiver does not answer to the sender email or for every reason, did not get email etc. admin do not have more acccess to this balance of client, other hand, cliant('s balance has been debited without his money be released by somebody else so ho lost his money in the air????
question; is there any possibility to manage this issue? to see or to give a limitation time to the receiver and if he does not react to the sender mail, the balance of sender becomes corrected? as we see in paypal, if receiver does not react to senedr gift, at least sender doesn't loos his money?
thanks

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
My sister gives me a Best Buy Gift Certificate ...
Yes, she also gave me one last Christmas and the Christmas before ... and the one before last ...
They are all four sitting in my pocket ...
I did use one 6 months ago ... or part of one for a headset ...
I sure would of been ticked off if my Christmas present expired, became void, etc.
That's why when she asks ... hey what do you want for Christmas ... and I say nothing special ... and she says how about a Gift Certificate from Best Buy ... I say sure ... cause I know I can put those in my pocket and use them whenever I want ...
Maybe a wireless headset next ... yeah ... that's that's the ticket ... a wireless headset ... or ... or ... or ...
Gotta love those Best Buy Gift Certificates ... I sure hate those ones that expire or lose value etc. over time ... really ticks me off to say the least ... makes me want to packup my credit cards and go home ... :lamo:

HI
CAN SOMEBODY GIVE ME A HAND, FOR THE QUESTION ABOVE;
I don't repeat the question, Jst the point of the question is: what can we do if the receiver of a gift certificate sent by other client do not receive his email, while the balance of sender is already debitted?
thanks if you can guid me ;;;;

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Look in the Admin ... Gift Certificates/Coupons ... Gift Certificate Sent ...
You should see the redemption code on the GV the customer sent ... send this to the person who needs to redeem it ...
-
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
THANK AJEH,
but the question is , if the receiver refuse it or do not receive for every reason (loosing e-mail address, dead????!!!), what can I do to restore the debitted balance of th sender , do I have to send him a GV with the value of this debitted amount, I think, and then I delete that redemption code of his sending, is it so????
thanks
-
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Login with your own account into your Shop as if you were a customer ...
NOTE: you could log in with an account that looks Official like you are the Store Owner ...
Go to the GV FAQ ... and redeem the GV that was sent out ...
The balance is now in your Official Store Owner Account ...
Now send the GV back to the Customer ...
Neato eh?

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
THANKS Ajeh; It's Okay now.

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
i have a few questions about Gift Certificates.
1. Do Gift Certificate always have to be release by the admin of the cart and if so is there a way to setup some type of notification for the admin to advise him to release the Gift Certificate. i Personally don't like the fact that the Gift Cetificate has to be release by the admin of the cart cause that means the cust needs to wait for it to be available.
2. I creasted a Gift Certificate, Log In as if i where a customer purchased a Gift Certificate of 30 that i create everything was done perfectly. i went to the home page of my Account i saw the Gift Certificate and tried purchasing something in the store and i notice that shipping has to be paid separately. Is there something wrong that i did or is that how it works?
3. I tried sending the remainder balance to someone else which is myself sent the email but nver recieved it. WHY?

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
I'm not having as much luck with my gift certificate. It seems just to keep the amount at $0.00, unless I set it up with a specific amount. How do you make it so someone can purchase the gift certificate for as much as they want?

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
I am new to all of this and am finding this post to be very helpful so thank you to everyone who has asked a question, received an answer and replied back letting us all know what options worked and which ones didn't... And of course, thank you to everyone who answered these questions with possible options to resolving the noted issues...
I have a question and it is regarding the image. I have yet to set-up any GCs but I'm sure I will at some point before launching my shop next month. I also do not know how to set up a dummy account or demo version of my shop to really test these things...
Anyway, to my question: When a customer purchases a GC from my shop do they actually receive a GC image or just text information? I sent a GC that I purchased for a friend on another site and had to wait for it to be approved and emailed to me before I could email it to him. I received a PDF file of a GC with a code built into it... The code was the number needed to shop at the site... Are the GCs from Zen Cart the same or are they just text/code with text information?
Thank you...
P.S. My site is not connected to a payment gateway yet, so with this said, can I test the shopping cart/GCs right now without causing myself any real grief? It's uploaded to my server at this time...
-
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Zen Cart allows GVs to be either automatic or by approval ...
Personally ... I prefer to approve all GV purchases ...
Then, when you approve a GV an email is sent with the code ... no there is not fancy image of the GV with that email ... you could code something for this, but there is nothing built in for this to happen ...
Once the GV code is received either the person who got the email can claim it or they could give the code to someone else ... first person to claim it wins ...
Or, they can claim it, then later decide to send it to someone else ...
-

Holy cow, that is the fastest reply I have ever received on a forum! Bravo y Brava!
Is this something I can test without being attached to a payment gateway? And does it matter that I am already loaded onto my server? I am very interested in expirementing with the GC's... Seems like a perfect function for my shop...
Thanks again to all...

Gift Certificates really don't have a lot to do with Payment Gateways other than how are they purchased ...
You can experiment with them using Check/Money Order moneyorder or Credit Cart cc ...

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Hi - I managed to setup GIft Certs no problem and I operate them in the same way as Linda i.e. one product of £1 and buy as many as you want .... however I have one problem - I don't get a Redemption Code in any of the emails that are sent out and I can't find them in the Admin area either to send it out manually .... I can get it to work without them (i.e. I can redemm them OK) but I would like to issue Redemption Codes if possible.

I really like this option. I haven't completely set up the gift certificates yet, but have a question. If I set it up this way, and say a person buys 25 $1 increments, for a total of $25. Will there be 25 redemption codes or will it just be one code?
Forgive me if this is covered elsewhere, I am really new here.

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Ok... so I have Gift Certificates working on my site (with the help of all you guys... Thanks!!). I'm a little confused at the process and have not found ALL the answers here (most, but yanno!).
Here is my understanding of how it works and my questions.
1) Customer buys gift certificate from site and pays through paypal.
2) Purchase shows up and the store owner must log in to "Release" GC after payment is confirmed.
3) Store owner must go to the order and change the order Status to "Delivered" (is this step necessary before the customer receives the GC??).
4) Customer receives email with GC info (I had a problem with a quick checkout module that generates bogus login info and bogus email addys - GC's disappeared into La La land).
5) Customer clicks on link and can send GC to someone else.
Now... after a GC is released, it disappears from the admin page. So is there no way now to determine the information of the GC (denonimation, date released, etc.)???
If someone complains about not receiving the GC, is there a way to resend?
Thanks all!

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
The release of the GV is not dependant or orders_status ...
The GV code has no meaning as the GV when released goes direct to the customer's account ...
Next, when sent to another ... while there is a GV code for the friend to claim the amount ... the GV code does not have a direct relationship to the order as the customer sending it could have a balance of $50 in GV then bough $10 more ... then sent $55 dollars worth ...
But in the Admin ... Gift Certificate/Coupons ... Gift Certificates sent ... it does show that a GV for $55 was sent ...
It shows who sent it, the code, and the addres sent to ...
NOTE: while sent from Bob to Fred ... Fred can call Bill on the phone and say go use this GV I just got from Bob ...
First claim of a GV wins ...
-
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Ok thanks!
So if for some reason after you release the GC the user does not get it (or they claim they did not receive it), what should you do?
I know you can manually send a gc, but what happens if they find the original and use it (or had it all along) after you send a new one?
Thanks again!

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
I set up a gift certificate as per the original instructions, however the item isn't appearing correctly, instead of having the user input a $ value for it, it just free: http://www.goodbuygail.com/index.php...&products_id=2

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
What is the Product Price set to?
If you set it to 0.00 then it is worth 0.00 ...

Yes, price is set to 0, however it also set to price by attributes, do they attributes need to be set up manually?(I don't believe this is mentioned in the instructions).

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
I do not see any attributes on this product ... are you sure that you added them?
If so, what happens if you switch to the Classic Template? Do they now appear?

What attributes need to be set up, there are no attributes listed in the begging on the thread where you detail how to set up gift certificates?

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Example would be just like in the demo products ...
NOTE: it is a good idea to setup a clean Zen Cart of the current version in a clean directory with a separate clean database and load the demo products so you can see all of the functionality of Zen Cart ...
First, set up an Option Name in the Option Name Manager such as:
Amount
Radiobutton
Next, in the Options Values Manager set up the names as:
Option Name: Amount
Option Value: $5.00 (note this is text)
Default sort order 5
Option Name: Amount
Option Value: $10.00 (note this is text)
Default sort order 10
Option Name: Amount
Option Value: $15.00 (note this is text)
Default sort order 15
Option Name: Amount
Option Value: $25.00 (note this is text)
Default sort order 25
Then, go to the Product and setup as:
Price by Attribute: YES
Product Price: 0.00
Product is Virtual: YES
Product Model: GIFT (note: this must start with the word GIFT in uppercase and then you can add anything after that to the model)
Product Quantity: 1000 (or whatever)
Finally go to Attributes Controller and locate this Product ...
Add each Attribute:
Option Name: Amount
Option Value: $5.00
Price: 5.00
Default: YES
Option Name: Amount
Option Value: $10.00
Price: 10.00
Option Name: Amount
Option Value: $15.00
Price: 15.00
Option Name: Amount
Option Value: $25.00
Price: 25.00
When done ... click the button for Update Sort Order and the default Sort Orders will be set ...

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Thanks for the help, is there a way I could do this with a text box to allow the user to set up custom values(preferably with a way to set up a minimum)?
-
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Only if you re-write all of the code to interpret what that text means ...
You could make a GV for 1.00 and have them enter the amount ...
For this I would tweak the product _info page so that when on that Product, it reads instead of add to cart something like:
Purchase GV Value
Gift Certificate Amount
or something above the add to cart box ...

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Heh, I think that would just confuse users, I guess I just need to figure what quantities to offer.

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Doesn't seem to calculate the gift certificate
I haven't had a chance to go through this entire thread yet, but I sent out a coupon to a costumer as a gift. They tried to redeem it, and they receive a message saying "congrats you have redeemed the $X amount, but in fact the total doesn't change. Is there an attribute that I may have turned off that won't total or include gift certs. ? It certainly follows through as though it is accounting for it, and allows you to punch in the cert. code, but doesn't calculate it(subtract from the total). I actually tried a test myself and got the same unfortunate response.
Any ideas???

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
The customer must make and effort and actually fill in how much of their GV balance they wish to spend on the order ...
Send a GV to yourself and go through the steps so that you can see exactly how this works and better explain to the customer to fill in the amount in the GV apply box on the checkout_payment page ... where it reads:
Quote:
Apply Amount:
Available balance: $XX.XX

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
BINGO!
That was it indeed. I had actually tried it myself before I posted and missed the amount area too. I'm guessing since you knew right away what the problem was that this is a common mistake. I'm thinking that filling out an amount isn't the most logical setup, or maybe it's that where not used to having an option like that. Perhaps it would be best to have it set at default to use the entire amount, and then there could be an extra option if you wanted to change the amount to use. Just a thought.
Thanks again for your help.

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /includes/modules/order_total/ot_gv.php on line 29
Is there something I have missed, or is this a module that needs to be installed separately first? If anyone could help me, I would sure appreciate it.
Thanks so much!

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Try to reload the files:
/includes/modules/order_total/ot_gv.php
/includes/languages/english/modules/order_total/ot_gv.php
You could have bad files on the server or mixed up files ...
-
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
I just reloaded both files, and am still receiving the same error at the top of my page. I used the files from the "full fileset" folder that I downloaded when applying the patches. I'm assuming those were ok to use? (My installation was initially a Fantastico install)

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
I reloaded them yet again, and it looks like they are working now. Thanks so much for the help!

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Hi, I have a question. I have gift cards here at home. Each gift card has its own number on the back of it. I would like to pass this gift cards out with my catalogs so when they come to my store to buy something they can enter the gift card number and receive there credit off. My question is how can I set this up.
Thank you

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Gift Certificates can be created with your own code that the customer can then redeem and use on your site ...
However, there is not a way to enter that code manually in the Admin ...
Let's say you want to send one for $50 ... you could send it to yourself then edit the database and change the code manually ...
You would have to be very careful on not making errors to use this method ...
Or, you could customize the Mail Gift Certificate to allow you to enter your own and if blank, it would generate a unique code for you, otherwise, it would use the code you wanted to use ...
With the proper coding checks it could be made to prevent accidental duplications on your part ...

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Than you for your reply. What you are saying, if I want to use my gift cards here at home so I can pass them out to my potential customers. I can go to admin send me some say $25.00 $50.00 gift Certificates for how ever many card I have here at home. Go to admin and redo the gift numbers to match the one on the back of the gift cards it should work for my potential customers if they come to my site to redeem it.

Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Almost ...
You'd have to go to the raw database and adjust the code in the table to use your code vs the auto-generated code ...
-
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
You'd have to go to the raw database. When you say raw database do you mean mysql server and adjust the code there. If thats where I would go what would it be under coupons, coupons code. How do I change the code there. Sorry for asking all these question.
-
Re: Gift Certificate Help Please
Using phpMyAdmin you would update the coupons table and change the coupon_code to match the one you are sending with your catalog ...
Or, you would have to customize the code in the
/admin/gv_mail.php
And set it up to allow you to manually enter your Gift Certificate code vs the generated code, unless left blank ...
