Discount Coupon Guide?!
I need a basic guide on the implementation of Discount Coupons.
I've created a discount coupon through 'Coupon Admin' and Discount Coupon module is installed under Modules->Order Total. That done, i do not see that discount coupon anywhere in my cart.
Can anyone tell me how & where these discount coupons appear in the cart?! Or a link to some thread that already answers these questions. All help is much appreciated. Thank you.
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
The Discount Coupon itself appears in emails you send to customers ...
Customers can test their Discount Coupon Code from the link in the Information sidebox ...
And Discount Coupons are accepted during the checkout ...
If you want to make them and have them just display on your site as extras for your customers ... you might consider adding a new page via EZ-Pages ... assuming that you are Zen Cart v1.3.x ... and post the Discount Coupon codes there for the asking ...
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Hi,
I don't want to offer discount coupons.
1. Is this an automatic feature when someone opens an account?
2. If so, how do I disable it?
Thank you
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
If you do not wish to use Discount Coupons ...
Check that you never set up any Discount Coupons ...
Admin ... Gift Certificate/Coupons ... Coupon Admin ...
If any are setup ... click delete to disable them ...
Go to the Admin ... Modules ... Order Totals ... Discount Coupon ... and remove it ...
Now Discount Coupons are not enabled for your shop but can be added at a later date should you wish to use them ...

A Discount Coupon would need to be redeemed on the checkout_payment page ...
To look at a Discount Coupon's setting, there is a link to the Discount Coupon page ... as of v1.3 ...

Sorry for interupting, I have followed the instructions in this link and it appears that my "test" coupon is not being received by my "test" customer. Can you help?

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
1 You made a Discount Coupon
2 You configured the settings for GV Coupons so that the Configuration ... GV Coupons:
Quote:
New Signup Discount Coupon ID#
Select the coupon
Has this coupon selected
3 You create a new customer
4 The new customer gets an email
Is the Discount Coupon mentioned in the email?
What version Zen Cart are you using?
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Thnak you for your help. It appears that my test coupon was not being received by my test email as the test email address will not accept "Spam" mail and all my emails from the admin site are being received as**Spam**.
I have made contact with the company who have sent up the site and by own email control and they are trying to sort out the problems.
I have now sent a test coupon to another address and everything works fine.
Thank you for your reply.

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Thanks for the update that it was your email caught in the spamm game and not the code causing the issue ...

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Silly question----I want to set a special 10% off coupon, but I do NOT want the coupon to take 10% off of shipping.
Is there a way to set this up, or is this pretty much automatically set that way?
I want people to still pay full price for shipping as I just charge at cost.

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Admin> Modules> Order Totals> Discount Coupons>
Include Shipping in calculation

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Hello all. I am kind of a techno tard, but I am trying to learn more. I am hoping to add an area where a customer can input a code and receive a discount on only product, not shipping. If this is possible, can someone please give me a basic run down on how to implement this?

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Have you read the rest of this thread? Or looked in the tutorials/FAQs?

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
I have been looking over this stuff on and off for almost a week. I do not want it to go out in a email. I am hoping to be able to give people a code IRL, and that will allow them to save "x" amount when they visit the site and use the code. Am I missing something? Where can I tell Zen Cart what code I would lke it to use and how much it should be for?

Hi
I'm wanting to offer a new sign up gift voucher, but I see this option is currently only by value amount - anyway this could be by offered by a percentage ?
Thanks

coupon limit
is there a limit to the number of coupons that can be created?

Use a discount coupon instead of a gift voucher.

No limits.

No. Only one coupon at a time, and a coupon with free shipping on will only give free shipping - any other discount will be ignored.

At the present time, it's Zen Cart's core code that imposes this restriction. I do not know of a mod that over-writes this.

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
My coupon code is not calculating properly.
I have a coupon set for a particular item that is $90, and the coupon is for 20% off. It should be taking off $18, but instead it's taking of $19. Somehow it's adding a buck more off - where do I fix that?

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
When I create a coupon and email it to the customer the coupon description that I specified when creating the coupon does not show up in the email. Only the description that I specify when I email the coupon shows up.
Another problem is that the value of the coupon is displayed in the subject line only. I already had customers coming back and asking what the value is as it is not in the email itself.
Of course it will work if I include the value when I email the coupon from the coupon admin area.
I would have thought that the coupon description info when the coupon was created would be included in the email sent through coupon admin but it does not seem to be.
Am I missing anything?

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
I have a problem with Discount Vouchers. If one purchase is made everything is correct. If several items of the same product are purchased the discount is taken off all the items. However if someone orders two different products the discount voucher only works on one item(product) and not the other.
This is driving me mad, I know I must be missing something can anyone help please.
Thanks

Do you have any product or category restrictions on the coupon?

It would seem that the discount is now been taking off both items but the VAT is incorrect.
Any ideas to look at would be appreciated.

It seems that your 1 to 4 is the unique way a customer can get a coupon. In this case, the customer get a coupon before he make any purchase.
But i want a customer get a coupon after he has made a certain purchase, say over $100, then get $10 coupon as award so that the customer is likely to come back to buy something again.
Does Zen cart support my idea? If not, i hope it comes out in new version.
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
This would need to be customized as nothing is built into Zen Cart to generate a Discount Coupon based on purchases ...
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Using ZenCart 1.3.8a
I was on the coupon look-up page double checking what coupons I have active. On particular coupon was restricted to certain products/categories. The look-up showed NO restrictions.
I would like to display the valid dates in bold or another colour. Possibly even red for expired coupons since they still show up.

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
I need some help on the discount coupon.
1. How to set the coupon to use in more than 1 order?
2. Can the customer check the coupon status at the Account page?
3. How do I trace the usage of the coupon in the admin page?

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
When you make the Discount Coupon, set the number of uses per coupon based on the Coupon use itself and number of times per customer ... leaving blank is unlimited ...
There is a REPORT button for the Discount Coupon ...
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
"There is a REPORT button for the Discount Coupon ... "
I have a question about this...clicking on the report will give me the number of redemptions, but not the actual discount redeemed or the purchase price of each product for which each coupon was used. Is there any way of getting more detailed information?
On a related note, I'd like to offer a program that allows people to donate a percentage of the purchase price to a certain charity/organization. I would assign a unique code to each organization, and a customer could enter the code for the charity of their choice when they checked out. I was thinking I could do this by creating coupon codes worth $0.00 for each organization, but I have not found a reliable way of tracking the usage of each coupon due to the issue I mentioned above. Is there anything that would allow me to track the purchase price of each product for which the coupon was used?
I was thinking that I could have customer enter the coupon code as a customer referral instead, but the problem is that the customer would not be able to use a different code later on (or rather, they could but it would not show up in the customer referral report) , plus, I have customers with other referral codes, so I would not be able to track their usage of this new code.
Any ideas?
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
You would need to customize the code to grab the Order Total and tally it up ...
Presently, it just says "who" used it ...
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Any ideas as to how I could go around doing this...?
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Without rewriting the code for this ... i really cannot say as you have to gather all of the information then display all of the information ...

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Can anybody help with fixing a calculation errors when using a category discount?
Here's the problem:
I have a 10% discount for category A. The discount is applied correctly to an item from category A when placed in the shopping cart.
Example
$100 subtotal
- $10 category A discount
=====
$90 total
Zen Cart also correctly does not apply the 10% discount if an item from category B is placed in the shopping cart. Ex. Subtotal $200 = total $200
However, if an item from category A and B are in the shopping cart here's how it calculates:
$300 subtotal ($100 category A + $200 category B)
- $10 category A discount
=====
$90 total
The $200 for an item from category B is not included in the final price. I'll quickly go out of business using this math.:dontgetit

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Set your restrictions up as:
Top DENY
Category A ALLOW
see if that works better for you ...
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Thanks Ajeh for the response.
I modified the restrictions per your recommendation and have the same results. I also tried only setting restrictions to:
Category A ALLOW
Same thing.
Could it be in the Order Total Module? Here is how I have it set up:
Discount Coupon ot_coupon 280
Group Discount ot_group_pricing 290
Gift Certificates ot_gv 840
Low Order Fee ot_loworderfee 400
Shipping ot_shipping 200
Sub-Total ot_subtotal 100
Tax ot_tax 300
Total ot_total 999
Thanks again for your help!

What version of Zen Cart are you using?
Is this a clean install or an Upgrade?
If an upgrade, how did you do the Upgrade?

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Since we are on the same subject I'd like to ask this. Let's assume I offer FREE SHIPPING to customers who spend $79 and up on my site. Yet at no point I see the space to enter the code. The site is located at http://www.nikeguru.com
Thanks in advance :D

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
I have a question as well. I have had my store now for about a year and I have never noticed the pull down menu under coupon admin which allows you to view "inactive" coupons. I want to delete the inactive ones all together but when I choose that option it just deactivates them again.
For a specific example... I have a coupon code that i deleted a while back. The dates on it are still good and should be working if I had not deactivated it.
My questions are these:
1 - How do I completely delete this coupon code, whether active or inactive, so I can add a new one with the same code?
2 - If I want to reactivate this inactive coupon code, where and how is this achieved?(I do not see how to do this in the coupon admin).
Thank you.

How are you currently offering the Free Shipping for Orders >= $79.00 now?
Or, are you trying to make a Discount Coupon for this?
If a Discount Coupon, make sure that you have the Modules ... Order Totals ... Discount Coupon ot_coupon installed ...
Then you have to make a Discount Coupon before it will should on the Checkout on the checkout_payment page ...
To give Free Shipping, make a Discount Coupon and check the Free Shipping box ...
NOTE: Discount Coupons are only for either an Amount -- or -- a Percentage -- or -- Free Shipping ... but not in combination with each other ...

OK, another question then.... When I am viewing the inactive codes and I click on restrictions.... it says
Quote:
Sorry, your security clearance does not allow you to access this resource.
Please contact your site administrator if you believe this to be incorrect.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
Do you know why this is? Is it because the code is dead and does not have restrictions anymore?
It would be nice to somehow be able to delete them. Maybe someday... Thank you for your quick response too.

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Sounds like you have Admin Profiles installed and that this page has not been defined for your access ...
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
OK, I feel really stupid. I added a module for admin profiles. I thought because I was the admin, everything would stay the same. But my clearance was changed as to not allow me access to 3 module pages that I had installed but did give me access to everything else. Not sure why, I think it just reset to that when I installed the module. But thank you for having me check there. I should have thought of that on my own, but thank you for reminding me.

You are most welcome ... thanks for the update that you were able to fix the Admin Profiles permissions to get the proper security access to this section of code pages ...

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Thanks Ajeh, it worked. I created the coupon but didn't see it until I accesed modules > order totals > ot_shipping > edit and I set the Provide free shipping for orders over the set amount option to equal the amount of the coupon. Now it works beautifully just like any known brand e-store :D

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Hi everyone
I am currently using version v1.3.9f.
As a promotional aspect to my site I offer discount coupons as prizes for a monthly competition. Is there any way I can offer a £10 discount coupon which the customer does not have to use in one transaction?
I would like somehow to be able to offer the voucher, and if say the customer used £4 of that voucher the remaining £6 would still be redeemable at a later date.
I apologise if this question has already been answered, I have read through all of these posts and the FAQ but am not really getting very far in the process.
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much for taking the time to read my post
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Discount Coupons are for a specific Amount or Percentage or Free Shipping ...
Discount Coupons are setup to then be used by a number of times per Discount Coupon, or unlimited, and a number of times per customer, or unlimited, and then for a date range ...
There isn't a setting to give a $10.00 Discount Coupon where it can be used like a balance ...
Gift Certificates, on the other hand, are a balance, as they are "cash" and never expire ...
However, Gift Certificates have a limit of being for a specific customer and then can be used on an order in total or in part and can also be sent in total or in part to another person ...
NOTE: While Discount Coupons can expire ... Gift Certificates never expire ...
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Thank you so much Ajeh - I really appreciate your reply
Guess I've been looking for something that can't be done, so at least now I can just forget the idea :D
Thanks again

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
I am using version 1.3.8a
I have never been able to create a coupon. The module is installed. But the top of that page appears to contain an error message and no option to edit or create.
I tried uninstalling the module and reinstalling. The problem has existed for a long time. We did several upgrades thinking it would go away but this particular items remains.
The "error" reads
1054 Unknown column 'coupon_zone_restriction' in 'field list'
in:
[select coupon_id, coupon_code, coupon_amount, coupon_type, coupon_start_date,coupon_expire_date,uses_per_user,uses_per_coupon,restrict_to_p roducts, restrict_to_categories, date_created,date_modified, coupon_active, coupon_zone_restriction from zen_coupons where coupon_active='Y' and coupon_type != 'G' limit 0, 5]
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields
So that gives me the impression that at some point a coupon was attempted and failed but now there appears to be no way to fix it or move on to create a new one.

I was going to send to "All Customers". Not sure what the other selections mean?

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Hey guys and girls - I got the following email from the owner of a zencart shop I manage.
Would love some advice ...
"Hey there...
Interested in your thoughts about how a massive promotion with another retail chain might work. They want to run a promo whereby customer gets $10 voucher for [the store] and they get given a code. They have two months to redeem it.
Question is: is it possible to create unlimited (say 135,000-ish) unique codes for the promotion or would it need to be ONE code. If the latter, then pretty much anyone who finds out about the code could use it so not sure if that’s good.
Your thoughts appreciated! "
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
There is nothing built into Zen Cart to automatically generate multiple Discount Coupons ... however, this could always be built ...
When doing 135,000 Discount Coupons ... does it really matter "who" the 135,000 users are for it?
If you set up a Discount Coupon and set it as:
Quote:
Uses per Coupon 135000
Uses per Customer 1
now the Discount Coupon can only be used once per customer account for 135,000 people ...
Trying to make 135000 unique Discount Coupons could be done but it does become rather unyielding to manage if you don't really have a purpose for these to be unique ... such as 135000/20 or 6750 pages of Discount Coupons ...
Where if you used 1 Discount Coupon Code, the Report would give you counts for it ... vs trying to look at the 135000 individual Discount Coupons to see who used it ...

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
I have scanned every post in this thread and did not see (doesn't mean it isn't there) an answer to my question. If someone doesn't use all of the money in a gift certificate is the balance displayed somewhere so they know when ever they come to the store what that balance is?
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
A Gift Certificate will show the balance in:
Shopping Cart Sidebox
GV FAQs
My Account
Checkout Payment
when the customer is logged in ...
In the Admin it will show in the Customer ... Customer ... in the balance listing ...

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
I have a discount coupon set up but the link to redeem it only shows in the Info area on the left sidebar of the checkout page. This is a vvery small link and seems it would be easily missed by the customer. I there any way to put a coupon redemption box into the checkout form so people won't have to go looking for this?
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
There is already a Discount Coupon input box on the checkout_payment page of the checkout ...

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Ive seen others in this thread with the same problem and haven't found a solution yet.
I create a coupon including HTML message in 'coupon admin'. when I click the email button it offers 2 text boxes rather than the HTML message coupon I created. The name of the HTML coupon I created is in the first field but the text boxes are sample text "We're pleased to offer you a Store Coupon."
How do I send the HTML coupon I created?
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
The HTML box is for the HTML portion of the email ...
The TEXT box is for the TEXT portion of the email ...
Some people cannot see HTML emails so you need a TEXT portion ...
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
So is it that I need to paste the HTML (and text option) in each time I send. I thought when I created the coupon it would save like i does in Newsletters
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
No ... you need to make a test and have both boxes filled for theHTML and TEXT to see what the customer will get ...
The TEXT is basically exactly what you type ...
You have to keep in mind what customers get for both methods ...
You cannot use the HTML in the TEXT because the TEXT is just that, TEXT ... and you cannot make that look all fancy ... you need to make it look good for a person reading TEXT emails ...
-
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
I dont think I explained my problem well.
I do understand the HTM and text boxes as they are like the ones I used in the Newsletter admin.
My problem is when I create a coupon and put HTML in its box and text in its box, define the term and dollar amount and such and click Preview, all is good, then save.
Now I go back to that coupon (call it #1) and select edit and then preview; all still looks good.
Problem is when I select the email button, it opens with the default text in both HTML and text areas even though at the top is says its coupon #1.

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Could you put your HTML into a NotePad file and your TEXT into another NotePad file and zip them then add it as an attachment here?
-
2 Attachment(s)
Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Ok, here they are....
Just noticing that the "insert" area does not have a separate place for plain text so only the HTML has been attempted in testing (I know the text version is slightly different)

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Make sure that when you test this that the customer is an HTML customer ...
And they will get the HTML email ...
The TEXT email is built in 3 peices:
This part is when you hit the email coupon button and enter TEXT
Quote:
We're pleased to offer you a Store Coupon
This is on the SEND email.
This is from the language file:
Quote:
You can redeem this coupon during checkout. Just enter the code in the box
provided, and click on the redeem button.
The coupon code is TESTELEVEN
The coupon is valid between 11/30/2010 and 11/30/2011
Don't lose the coupon code, make sure to keep the code safe so you can
benefit from this special offer.
This is from the EDIT of the coupon when you Add/Edit:
Quote:
This is on the EDIT Discount Coupon
Then the HTML is the HTML that you add on the SEND ...
Now those customers with HTML selected get both the HTML and TEXT ... those with the TEXT selected get just the TEXT ...

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
I have Zen Cart 1.3.9d. When I send out an email from the coupon code admin to my test customer, it sends out 2 emails. One has the subject line that I entered into the email form and the other has a subject line with "[DISCOUNT COUPONS]" in front of the subject line that I entered. What in the world am I doing wrong?

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Nobody can help me with this? :(

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
I saw a similar question to mine was asked earlier on this thread but not answered. Hopefully someone can help. I created a coupon code that discounts an order 100% for orders we received in person at a recent event (and were paid for already) which we gave them the 100% coupon code to redeem on the website.
Is there a way not to have to put in a credit card number when there is a 100% discount?
Or, at least, move the location of the coupon code before checkout so they'll see they won't be charged anything.
Thanks,
-

I am by no means an expert in Zencart, far from it. But I too have duplicate emails sent to me when I send out a test coupon. I believe that one is sent to your test account as if it were to a real customer, and the other is basically an admin's copy of that email.
After testing the set up of the coupon is tested and it is sent to a 'real' customer, you will only receive one email - [DISCOUNT COUPONS] which is just confirmation of the email you sent out.
Hope that helps, further more hope I am right  Put it this way I have never had a customer tell me I have sent them 2 emails so I presume it all works the way I mentioned above.

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
I'm using 1.3.8a
I've read through the posts and can't find anyone having my exact problem.
The code works fine and I receive a message saying that it has been redeemed but it never takes the $1.00 off the total. I get as far as the paypal screen and it is still not taking that amount off.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Hi
There is a difference between Gift Certificates and Discount Coupons.
If you have a discount coupon, on Step 2 of 3 in the payment information you need to type in the redemption code to discount the total price by the amount of your discount coupon. These can only be used once so if your total is under the amount of your coupon you will lose the remainder of the balance.
A Gift Certificate allows you to have a running balance on the total. I'm copying and pasting a message I have left for my customers on my forum to help explain how to redeem the Gift Certificates.
After logging in as normal, you will see a message saying that you have successfully redeemed your Gift Certificate. The value of the certificate has now been added to your account and is shown in the top right hand corner in the Shopping Cart box in bold letters.
Using Your Gift Certificate
When you wish to shop from the store, after you have finished shopping click the Go To Checkout button as normal.
In the 3rd box down, titled Gift Certificates, enter the amount you would like to use from your available balance in the bottom right hand side of the box. For example if you had Gift Certificates totalling £5.00 and your shopping cart totalled £2.50, enter 2.50 in the box provided. Now click Continue Checkout at the bottom of the page.
The next page will confirm your order with your discount taken off, click Confirm Order to finalise and process the transaction. Your downloads will now be available to you.
You will notice the balance of your Gift Certificates has been adjusted accordingly, and the remainder will stay in your account until you are ready to use it again.
Please note - even if you have a remaining amount of £0.47 in your account, you can still deduct this from the total amount due on your order.
I hope that's helped you with your problem - good luck

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
I get roughly the same error message as cmallenfln reprted the 8th November 2010.
HTML Code:
/hermes/bosweb/web087/b875/ipg.purechocolatetruffle/admin985858/includes/classes/split_page_results.php on line 39

I'm using 1.3.8a but can't or don't dare to upgrade as I downloaded my zencart from my provider which only support this version.
Is it totally impossible to run Discount Coupon under 1.3.8a ?
Kim
PS. my admin folder has another name that your can read in the error code.

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
You have a SQL error, but a different one to that reported by cmallenfln.
However, the advice is the same. We can't help you unless you upgrade. the version of Zen Cart you're using is several years old, no longer supported and has known vulnerabilities.
If your provider is supporting that version, then you'd need to get support from them. But I doubt that they'll be qualified to supply it as if they were, they too would be stressing the importance of upgrading.

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
Hi kuroi,
Thank you for giving me the push. I've now upgraded to Zen Cart 1.3.9f but I still get the same error message when I try to enter Admin Coupon.

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
This is off-topic, but why, and how, did you upgrade to 1.3.9f and not the current version? Did you use an automated upgrade programme?
Also what add-on modules do you have installed on your site. The error that you're getting isn't normal and shouldn't be happening in 1.3.9. But without knowing more about your site, it's difficult to say what's broken.

Re: Discount Coupon Guide?!
I upgraded to Zen Cart 1.3.9f as this was the latest version my provider offered.
I have a few add-on modules. Can I ask you to have a look on http://PUREchocolatetruffles.co.uk as I can hardly remember all the add-on I have uploaded during the last year,
many thanks in advance.
