Hi folks
I have just downloaded the Quick Update mod from the downloads section, installed it onto my v1.3.0.1 server, run the sql script, configured the bits in admin on what i would like to be able to edit.
BUT when i try to use the Quick Updates from the Catalog menu, no matter what category i select from my store no products are listed. I have checked the readme file included with the mod on the usage - but there is no info - can anyone help?
Jayson how did you get the SQL bit to go right?
I got this when I went to 'Install SQL Patch' - Browsed, found the right file and uploaded:

Did everything upload fine for you? Is there a permission somewhere you changed? For the life of me honestly I cannot tell if there is an extra blank space in the SQL thing.
The sql script went okay for me, as did the file uploads BUT the module is not working as I do not see any items to update?
hmmm... which zip file do you have and where'd you get it?? My zip file's name is Quick_Updates_1.3 and I think I got it at ZenPortali. Maybe we have the wrong files?
I installed quick updates that i got from the downloads section. At first I was missing all the products in the edit field. Non were showing up. And there were no configuration options either. So on a whim I copied and pasted the sql txt from the UPGRADE folder (I tried uploaded the file as prescribed in the readme.txt but that didnt work) and viola, everything is working fine now. You might give that a shot.

Jason did you do a new install? or upgrade from prior stuff? I am just wondering if the sql file you took from the Upgrade folder is the one I should use, instead of the sql file from the new install folder. I keep getting that error with it.

I got it. Open the SQL file in a text editor (I used TextPad) and just delete the first line of SQL save it and upload the SQL a 2nd time. Worked like charm.
Sql is fine BUT No products show up :(
dear guys,
as far as I know, the products not show up just because your server configuration is not with register_globals enabled (due to security issues).
if you are entitled to access .htaccess file, add the following code might help register globals enabled:
php_flag register_globals on
if it still doesn't work, probably this feature is enable-prohibited by your web host provider. contact them and ask if they could help you in this case.

I did a new install. I had not had it in my store before. Again, I tried uploading the sql file but that did not work. So I copied and pasted it into the field provided in the sql update page. That did the trick for me. I have 5 stores and its working fine in all of them.

Herm. Okay I will do what you did. This will be the fifth time of me putting it on there. It's a PAIN to back it up and remove everything and revert to solid running backup :P If I wasn't such a dunce at times I wouldn't have to go through this LOL! Obviously we're talking operator error here :laugh:
I did get a pm from someone offering to install it but I haven't been able to catch them online yet :cry:

Before installing any more mods best to resolve your db issue.
As Dr Byte suggested elsewhere it is likely a db prefix issue. Look at the list of tables in your db (e.g. with phpmyadmin). If you have many tables with zen_ prefixes but other tables without the prefix then that is likely your issue.
Thus probable solution is to fix the prefix ;-)

I think that's the same file I have. I tried the copy and paste also, to no avail. Portali got ahold of me and is going to help me install it. I don't know what I'm looking at when I open the file in a text editor. So I have no idea what it should look like (in ref. to the "blank spaces" part of the error). I think I'm going to download what you've attached and copy and paste it like you did. Maybe you have different stuff in yours? All my other mods (easy pop, image handler2 etc.) are working well and I mssgd my host to make sure the reg. globals were on.

Could it be that the sql file is attempting to put a configuration_group_id at a high count when the id is actually auto-generated.
Looks to me like the sql wants to install "300" when the next id is 28.

the configuration number doesn't matter as long as 300 isnt being used by anything else.
as for Globals yes this module requires globals ON,
however if you do a little research the globals on isnt the massive evil that some try to make it out to be.
Of course, you are correct. I have gone through the loading of this module twice and cannot get a single product to appear.

Hi Everyone
After reading the forum on Quick Update, I installed on the local cart v1.3.01. Everything seemed to be fine. After trying a few items, then I found all the product description were trimed off when the first line ended with </ul> or a break. Can't understand why. A sample of the description as below for ref.
Before install Quick update
" <ul><b><font color=blue>Free batteries and soft pouch.</font></b></ul>
Precision machined from Aluminium alloy and anodised, this torch gives a robust and long lasting shiny finish. The press button on the body provides a firm control.<br /> "
After quick update

The rest was deleted.
Wonder if anyone had similar problem and any if any idea to help?

Hallo,
i was just testing the quick updates and discovered some serious problems.
quick updates might use wrong number format when writing to the database. This occurs when you use a different/additional(?) currency-format.
i better give an example:
If you have a price of "1.20" and you want to add +1 you might get something like "2,20" (note: "." changed to ",").
As you can see, that seems to be a quick method to screw up your whole database with one click:cry:
After a first quick look at the code i noticed some more issues like the numbers are not quoted in sql-statements and the contrib doesn't use the zen db-layer (i don't know why).
Well, great idea for a contrib but still too dangerous for (productive) use.
The above affects "Quick Updates v1.3"

Well I fixed the name of that file under admin-includes-extra_datafiles.
Still though cannot get the SQL patch to go through successfully either with the tool or by C&Ping it. This is the second cart I've had that problem with. The first cart, Portali helped me install it, but I have no idea what he did. I thought maybe with a clean install of the newest zencart I could get it to go but nope :no:
This is another reason to have mods built to a standard which at least has a "latest version" check! When mods have so many homes, it's VERY difficult to keep up with the changes.Quote:

If anyone is wondering how to get the Quick Updates contribution to work with Register Globals turned off, this seems to be a simple way to do it.
Go to the quick_updates.php file in the admin directory and find the line near the top of the file that says require('includes/application_top.php');
Right under it, add this code:
$sort_by = $_GET['sort_by'];
$row_by_page = $_GET['row_by_page'];
$manufacturer = $_GET['manufacturer'];
$page = $_GET['page'];
$current_category_id = $_GET['cPath'];
$languages_id = $_SESSION['languages_id'];
$spec_price = $_POST['spec_price'];
So far it seems to be working great for me! :smile:

Is there anyway to also pull the products weight info? would that be

that doesn't seem to pull the info...
Also is there anyway we can add a search box to the quick updates. If one has 20,000 products, then it can be tedious going through the entire list, when a search by name or ID is all that is needed.

The Quick Updates contribution has already been configured to pull the products' weight info. In the admin, just go to Configuration > Quick Updates and make sure the setting for "Modify the weight of the products" is set to "True". Under Catalog > Quick Updates you should then see a field for editing the weight of a product right after the field for editing the price of a product .
A search box would be nice. What I normally use is the "Select category" drop-down at the top of Quick Updates. That narrows down the list so that only the products in the selected category are shown. Hopefully that should make things at least a little more manageable for you.

While we're talking about Quick Updates here, I thought I might share how I fixed up the Quick Updates preview product and edit product link icons to work with the latest version of Zen Cart (they seem to be disabled by default in Quick Updates 1.3).
First, make sure that "Display the link towards the products information page" and "Display the link towards the page where you will be able to edit the product" are set to True under Configuration > Quick Updates
Then, in quick_updates.php, change your SQL query by going to the line that says "//// select categories" and replacing the code under it with this:

However we really do need that search box. Take this example.
You have a batch of invoices come in -> 20 products to be updated. You have assigned your own product code to the products, so what do you do on the current system.
1) Find the manufacturer... Hmm, 300 of those, might take a while, rather large and cumbersome drop down! Then find the product, 500 of those... again, another slow process.
or
2) Type in the product code in the search -> Hey presto, your there.
Is there anyway that we can pull the code from the search box on the front page, and simply change the form variables? :smartass:
Yeah, I could really do with this also, and for the cross-sell module. Paging through 5,600 products ain't fun!
I think Zen Cart was build from a "few products" point of view, and we're trying to push it too far with all this hi-tech stuff!
You're right about how useful something like that would be. Unfortunately, I don't think the front page search box is really going to be that helpful in setting up something like this. You could always try though.
By the way, what were you referring to by "product code"? Were you talking about the product's ID number? It's model number? I was just wondering which value would need to be pulled from the database.
Perhaps one day a client of mine will need that functionality and I'll be able to take the time to program it in. If so, I'll be sure to post the code for you.

I renamed all the lang files for "model" to "product code", because model is really an unnecessary field...
So I would need to pull that from the db.

I have a problem with this module V1.3. After changing the price or weight -> update. I lose all the product descriptions . See the pictures before.jpg and after.jpg.
Any help ?
Only the first sentence, above the taabed products lite is srill there !
All under the tabbed lite is erased.

I am having a problem installing Quick Update on my ZenCart store.
First question, where do I FTP the quick Update files? If I put them in root, the Quick Update admin folder will overwrite my existing admin folder.
Second, should I use the “SQL Query Executor” to execute the quick_update.sql? If so why is my system giving me errors about this file. Where does “SQL Query Executor” execute files on my system? Do I need the quick update files/folders in this folder? Do I need to change the permissions on quick_update.sql to 777?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, just to get started.
