Downloaded file error message
Hi,
I set up downloadable products (Embroidery designs) in ZenCart.
Everything looks OK.
The green boxes show the downlodable files in Attributes controller.
When the customer downloads the file, it is a text INDEX file with the following error message:
"<br />
<b>Warning</b>: symlink(): No such file or directory in <b>/home/vod/public_html/Embroidery_Designs/includes/modules/pages/download/header_php.php</b> on line <b>115</b><br />
<br />
<b>Warning</b>: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/vod/public_html/Embroidery_Designs/includes/modules/pages/download/header_php.php:115) in <b>/home/vod/public_html/Embroidery_Designs/includes/functions/functions_general.php</b> on line <b>52</b><br />
"
I have these files in place.
Anyone can tell me what went wrong?
Thank you for the help,

Re: Downloaded file error message
What version php?
What version of Zen Cart?
Is this a clean install or an upgrade?
If an upgrade, what version did you upgrade from?
Has this ever worked?
/pub should be 777
Download files should be loaded in /download
The filenames should contain no spaces nor special characters ...
Files should be Zipped ...
Is this a unix or windows server?
Do you have Redirect turned on in the Attribute Settings?
How large is the download?
What happens if you try a small download around 100k?

Has this ever worked? - yes, without zipped files(*.DST, *EXP, - embroidery files)
/pub should be 777 - yes
Download files should be loaded in /download - the design files are in: download/FreeDesigns/file.DST
The filenames should contain no spaces nor special characters ...
Files should be Zipped ... - worked before without zipped it, don't works now even with zipped file.
Is this a unix or windows server? linux 2.4.3
Do you have Redirect turned on in the Attribute Settings? - Yes
How large is the download? 12kb plain, 7KB zipped
What happens if you try a small download around 100k?
I made test downloads after the original installation and worked fine.
I did not checked after the upgrade until now.
I have no idea what happened.
You can try the free product download if you think that helps.
Here is the shortcut:

Thanks for checking into it.

Re: Downloaded file error message
Could you perhaps answer these questions as I haven't a clue what is going on without some input here from you ...
Downloads work great for me ...
Did anything change on your hosting site?
New version? Upgrades of any kind?

Host is "Stormwire"

Re: Downloaded file error message
Downloads were never designed for subdirectories:
download/FreeDesigns/file.DST
They were designed to be:
download/file.DST
What happens if you turn off the Redirect in the Attribute Settings?
Note: it is not a good idea to use upper/lower case mix in URLs on the web ... no one will ever remember:
http://www.vodmochka.com/Embroidery_Designs
They may remember:
http://www.vodmochka.com/embroidery_designs
Granted I have trouble spelling emroidery ...

Re: Downloaded file error message
I changed the download folder from 755 to 777 and the shopping cart don't show the "Download" button anymore.
I changed it back to 755 still no "Download" button.
There is no "Download" button in the customer accounts either.
I have no idea what I messed up.
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
There are a lot of bugfixes since v1.3 ...
You may wish to upgrade to v1.3.0.2 ... note used the Full v1.3.0.2 as the changed version is only to go from v1.3.0.1
There are some display issues right now in your v1.3 where the downloads link do not show on the downloads that are not available because of orders_status or expired ...
Update the Order to orders_status >= 2 or <= 4 and they should show ... or if expired ... reset them on the Order ...

Re: Downloaded file error message
I changed the redirect setting. The "Download" button come back, but still the index file shows.
I will put the design files directly in the download folder.
I will let you know what happens.
One question:
Is there a way to manage hundreds of downloads in the "download" folder, or all have to be in the same folder.
I have 6 files for every item. That is 168 files with 28 items I have now in the cart. I want to put up hundreds of items in a short period of time. It will be a nightmare to manage so many files without putting them in forlders.
Do you have any suggestions?
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
At this time, Zen Cart uses the /download directory ...
We will be looking into changing this in a future release ...
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Thank you for the help.
I will work on this issue tomorrow.
I will keep you updated.
Thanks again.
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Hi,
I put all the download files in the download directory and deleted all the forlders.
Now the download button do not show up in the checkout.
Also missing in the cutomer's account, so my customers can not download the files previously purchashed.
I put out the Maintanence page for now and I will switch back to normal mode, if you think that would help. Please let me know.
Please help me figure out what happened with the "Download" buttons?
My next question is connected to this problem, but may be more suitable for another forum.
Should I upgrade now, or I better wait for the 1.4.0 release and upgrade to that?
I was thinking to upgrade the whole program to 1.3.2, (currently I have 1.3.0) but I am afraid I will mess up what I have even more.
I installed the cart through Cpanel (1.2.6), only needed to put the admin login and password. I also upgraded to the current version through cpanel.
The new version of cpanel do not support ZenCart, so I am on my own.
I spent more than a year to learn ZenCart and the features are perfect for my business. (Embroidery Design Downloads)
I did not change any original files that was not necessary. I made all the changes with the override system.
Please help me find the problem with the Download buttons and help me decide which version to update ZenCart.
Thank you,
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Doing the upgrade is important ...
Fixing the downloads can be done ...
Look in the database at the products_attributes_download table ... you should only see the filename not a directory/filename
Look in the orders_products_download table ... again, you should only see the filename and not a directory/filename
If you see both, then these need to be cleaned up ...
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
It is easy for you to say look in the database.
I never looked, so I don't know how to.
I downloaded a backup of the ZenCart database from my website and opened it with Excel.
It looks like a script rather than a database.
Would you tell me where can I find information how to look in the database.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Hi again,
I checked the database files with phpMyadmin.
The "product_attributes_download" filenames are OK. (Without the folder name)
In the "orders_product_download" table some of the file names have the folder front of it. Would you tell me how I can change that.
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
I find how to edit the names.
I will see if this brings back the "Download" buttons.
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Dear Ajeh,
The "Download" buttons are back again.
Thank you for the guidance.
I learned a lot about my website and ZenCart.
I hope to see the updates for the download file structure.
Once I update to the new version (1.4.0) I probable will need a new payment module for ECI paymant gateway for credit cards payments. I have this on my other websites that I also want to convert to ZenCart.
Thanks again,
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Thanks for the update and glad you got your downloads working happily again ...

Re: Downloaded file error message
You either have bad files uploaded that you are downloading ... or you have incomplete downloads occuring ...
Do you receive the downloads by the correct name?
Are they the correct size?
Is this a unix or windows server?
How large are the downloads?
Do the filenames for the downloads contain spaces, special characters or extra periods beyond the filename.ext
Are the all loaded to /download directory?
Is pub set to 777
If unix is Redirect turned ON
If windows is Redirect turned OFF
Do small downloads of less than 100k work?
Do you see the green dot next to the filename on the Attributes Controller?
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Hi Ajeh, Thanks for your prompt reply, Here are my answers of all of the questions you asked...
You either have bad files uploaded that you are downloading ... or you have incomplete downloads occuring ... All downloads are valid files and complete files... If I try to download the file from direct link it works fine.
Do you receive the downloads by the correct name? YES
Are they the correct size? YES
Is this a unix or windows server? Windows
How large are the downloads? I've upload three files all under 1 MB
Do the filenames for the downloads contain spaces, special characters or extra periods beyond the filename.ext= No all are simple files names.. eg ajk.zip etc.zip
Are the all loaded to /download directory? Yes all under download main directory
Is pub set to 777? YES PUB directory has 777 permissions
If unix is Redirect turned ON : NA
If windows is Redirect turned OFF? YES
Do small downloads of less than 100k work? NO
Do you see the green dot next to the filename on the Attributes Controller? YES
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Who are you hosting with?
Has this ever worked?
And the downloads you manually do don't throw the bad Zip file error when you attempt to open them?
What happens if you delete one, and reload it? Now can you get it from the My Account of the order?
Have you attempted to turn on in the Configuration ... Attribute Settings ...

Download by streaming
If download-by-redirect is disabled, and your PHP memory_limit setting is under 8 MB, you might need to enable this setting so that files are streamed in smaller segments to the browser.
Has no effect if Download By Redirect is enabled.
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Thanks for your quick response again, You surprised me :) thanks you so much..
here are the answers accordingly,
I am running this website on my own hosting at home, so for sure I've got full access to change everything :)
I tested it few days ago.. and it was worked for a couple of times when I tested and put it online, but later on it stopped working, and I believe I didnt change any thing after that except adding 2 more products.
I've tested it with both off and on setting in Atribute Settings, but invain :(
whereas "If download-by-redirect is disabled, and your PHP memory_limit setting is under 8 MB, you might need to enable this setting so that files are streamed in smaller segments to the browser." I need to check it later once i get back to home.
do you think that might be the reason, or if there is any other thing i need to change please advise,,,
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Could be ...
When you get it to a real server it would be a lot easier to determin these things and assure that there are not errors in your setup on your home system ...
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Hi, It me again, with same file downloading problem.
If I enable download-by-redirect and my php PHP memory_limit is 8 MB, it just download 108 KB segment despite of showing 0.98 MB total file size.
But if I disable download-by-redirect then it download the complete file but cant open it .. same problem.
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Try hosting it from a commercial location and you'll likely find that it works fine. I suspect it's a configuration issue on your home server.
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Mate I've been using commercial server for long time, but there were so many other issues.
Also I've been working for a hosting company and server admin, if there is any server config error I need to find out and solve it. Everything is in my control and I can solve it. I am sure ;)

Re: Downloaded file error message
HI Ajeh, For some reason its working fine when I try to download it from my home system, I deleted all temp files and even all instances of abc.zip file, but it worked fine, but now when I try to downlooad the same file here, it started giving me same erro...:(
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
I am really not following what you are trying to say ...
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Oh sorry I made it bit complex...
- I deleted all the temp files from my home PC
- I loged in as test user
- downloaded the file from my site without any error
But unable to open the downloaded files from anywhere else (same error)
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Where does it work from? "It" I am assuming means download ...
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Oh sorry I made it bit complex...
- I deleted all the temp files from my home PC (C:\windows.......)
- I loged in as a test user
- downloaded the file from my site without any error
- downloaded file works fine, opens prefectly
But if I download the same file from my office, it gives me error after downloading (If you downloaded this file, try downloading the file again.") despite of file size is same and accorate.

Re: Downloaded file error message
Any chance your computer is or browser is upset?
What happens when you test from a 3rd computer?
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
i've tried different computers with different browsers and operating systems, but same error ...

Re: Downloaded file error message
Is this site suppose to be reachable by anyone?
As is there an URL that we can try?

Re: Downloaded file error message

Re: Downloaded file error message
I would suggest setting up a fresh v1.2.7 install from a freshly-downloaded ZIP (since you're using v1.2.7 according to one of your posts) and create a downloadable product for testing.
Then, since v1.3 introduced some improvements to the download process, allowing files to be streamed in chunks rather than dumped from the webserver, I'd suggest you set up a fresh v1.3.0.2 (the latest released version as of today) install and test a downloadable product. Try adjusting the download method in Admin->Configuration->Attribute Settings to use streamed downloads as one of your tests.
It will be interesting to know whether a fresh 127 install helps, or a fresh 1302 install helps, or if none help.

Samething is hapening here!!
The files get corrupted when downloaded... and i did make sure they are ok on the server. I've tryed all types of configuration i think... and it seems to be something with the transmition method. The downloaded file always comes shorter for a few bytes (ive checked them both with a hex editor to make sure)..
I'm using powweb hosting.... by the way..

Re: Downloaded file error message
joanorsky ...
What version of Zen Cart ...
Clean install or an Upgrade ...
If an Upgrade what version were you and how did you upgrade?
How large are your download files?
Are they all in the /download directory?
Is /pub set to 777
Do the filenames have spaces or special characters or extra periods beyond the filename.extention
Are the files Zipped?
Can you download a small 100k file?
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
What version of Zen Cart ...
I am using the latest version..
Clean install or an Upgrade ...
It was a clean install
If an Upgrade what version were you and how did you upgrade?
No Upgrade.. just a clean fresh install!
How large are your download files?
Many files .. from 63k to 1.3MB... all corrupted on download
Are they all in the /download directory?
Yep... yes they are!
Is /pub set to 777
Yep.. it is!
Do the filenames have spaces or special characters or extra periods beyond the filename.extention
Nope... none of them have special characters or spaces. Some have are in capital letters.. and some are in plain lower letters (for instance : cdcsmdsfp.rar)
Are the files Zipped?
Some are zipped.. some are in rar!
Can you download a small 100k file?
Nope... same thing happens! The downloaded file .. downloads incomplete and that makes a CRC error on the compacted file (ZIP or RAR)
Whenever i download a file in Real FTP .. the file comes down ok. No problem what so ever.. ..
... man... this is giving me nightmares!! ..
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Sounds like your site is not configured to read the .htaccess file with the symbolic links on the Redirect ...
Try turning off the Redirect in the Configuration ... Attribute Settings ...
If it works ... contact your hosting site and ask why your /pub/.htaccess file for the download redirects do not work:
Quote:
#prevent directory browsing -- for security
IndexIgnore */*
Options +FollowSymLinks -Indexes
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
The thing is more complex that you're thinking!
It's not just an .htaccess problem... because if one turns of the redirect option it should run ok.. right? But it does not.
Whenever i turn this feature off the download comes down as expected... except on the file size! It's always smaller. Somehow it becomes "cutted" at the end (yep.. it's on the end.. as i've checked them both ... original and downloaded... in a HEX editor)
It's also not a problem of the file on the server.. because the file is ok with the right CRC checksum. It is a problem of zencart on downloading it!
Tell me something.. are your zipped files (after download by the latest zencart download system) able be decompressed on you computer? If you have the same problem.. the download will come down ok.. but the file will be shorter.. giving a CRC error!!
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
Are you sure that you have Zen Cart v1.3.0.2 installed?
Check in the Tools ... Server Info ...
The files in the /download are not in subdirectories correct?
Do you have an URL that we can peek at?
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
yep... totally sure!!
No subdirectories on the downloads... just files.
Server OS: Linux 2.4.32-grsec Database: MySQL 4.1.18-standard-log
Server Date: 08/11/2006 16:14:58 Database Date: 08/11/2006 16:14:58

Yep.. sure... the link is : www.compra-a-mim.com
It's on portuguese.. but i guess that it can be easly used as it's the same as all the others...

Re: Downloaded file error message
Your products have 1 attributes with the download marked as:
Downloads
em formato ZIP ou RAR [era: +0.00EUR agora é: Grátis]
How an I suppose to pick between the Zip and the RAR file type?
When you look at the Attributes Controller ... do you see the green dot next to all the filenames for the downloads?
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
I made an order but it is not available for download as the Orders Status is < 2 or > 4 so I have to wait for approval vs automatic access ...

Well you don't have the choice of picking up a ZIP or RAR file. That just means that the download file is either in RAR or ZIP.
And yes... all files have valid filenames... so the dots are green!
And it actually downloads (well .. at least when no redirect is selected)... the thing is that the file gets cutted on the end making the inevitable CRC error on deflation. I also tryed with or without streamming option!
Is there any php.ini specification that is needed to be included ?
-
Re: Downloaded file error message
And with the Redirect OFF ... the small file around 100k does not work either?
And with Streaming ON and Redirect OFF ... the small file still does not work?

Re: Downloaded file error message

With redirect OFF all files download as normal. But all are corrupted.. :( (bummer  )
With redirect ON it doesn't even downloads a file!

Still doesn't works. Well it downloads.. but the file is corrupted.. sniff sniff..

-
Re: Downloaded file error message
yes... those settings are correct. We are hosting several sites.. and that one ("cam") is related to www.compra-a-mim.com!
Regarding the sessions .. they are also correct!
php.ini refers :
PHP Code:
; Argument passed to save_handler. In the case of files, this is the path
; where data files are stored. Note: Windows users have to change this
; variable in order to use PHP's session functions.
session.save_path = /home/users/web/b1470/pow.joanorsky/sessions/
We're using the sessions directory on a unreachable address (except for the server internal operations) for a security reasons. The sessions are working perfectly!

Re: Downloaded file error message
which browsers have you tested this with? What sort of internet connection are you using?
I can't duplicate the problem, and have tried with several different hosts.
Not pointing fingers, but I'm very mindful that lots of people have troubles with ipowweb hosting and systems like Zen Cart.

Re: Downloaded file error message
which browsers have you tested this with?
IE, Mozilla FireFox. Always the same error though.. :(
What sort of internet connection are you using?
I've used several connections. Regular Dialup of 56Kb/s, Mobile conections of 156 Kb/s, 386Kb/s, 1.8 Mb/s, 2.4Mb/s, ADSL of 16Mb/s and T1 (LAN).. also used bentleywalker's Hughes SatComms to test this issue. Always with no success.. sniff ... snifff..
I can't duplicate the problem, and have tried with several different hosts.
Not pointing fingers, but I'm very mindful that lots of people have troubles with ipowweb hosting and systems like Zen Cart.
Is it possible for you to show us your generic server configurations? Or point one of the hosting companies that you are using ?
Isn't there any Apache streamming directive that should be set active in order to use the zencart's download algorithm? This is just too much strange..
