I tried to install Quick Updates 1.3 but i had a problem with MySQL query.
configuration key is already exist.
I thought is it good idea to add my DB prefix for zen cart to the sql query there is somethink different wrong ?

Ok coupla things,
when you use an sql file through the zen cart sql utility you do NOT need to add the prefix, it will be added automatically.
your tables probably look like
zen_zen_table name
10x for the quick one
my DB prefix is "zen"
i set my

Run the sql line by line to insert the values that way.
If some of it already exists you will find out this way, and if it doesnt then it will add it.
I had the same problem with the above and eventually added it all by doing it a line at a time.

use the sql updater in the zen cart admin,
DO NOT ADD your prefix to the sql file,

Ok I found a salution throught the PHPMYADMIN
In the query file
for the configuration table I added my DB prefix and it worked.
I mean it executed the query without any problem :))]

Ah, thanks. People were talking about a download named Quick_updates_v.1.3, the one in the download section is 1.1. Assumed there was a more recent one...
Perhaps there is a v1.3 but I am not sure where it is...if you find it and it's more stable please post a link here as I having being holding off due to all the issues with the current one. I thought that V1.3 was to imply compatibility with ZC 1.3. On the surface the mod installs find and everything looks good until you try to use it and it start messing up columns, descriptions and things like that.Quote:

Jettrue, you won't believe this, there is actually a v1.3 out there because I have a copy I downloaded to my computer. It still has problem but if you want it I'd be glad to email it to you if you want to send me a PM with your email address.

Jettrue, thanks for posting the update. I have not try it with the new SQL you provide so I will report back when I try it. Prior to your fix, the biggest problem I was experiencing is that it was truncating the product description and it's not because I set any limit for the maximum description to display. It was messing up the descriptions for the products.
I will apply your fix and give it a go again.

The problem with that is that the description field was using a textbox instead of a textarea. I guess perhaps with zen there is a limit of 1024 characters for a text box? Anyway, you have to go to admin/quick_updates and change this:Quote:

I change only quick_updates.php. A lot of changes.
I am having a problem with this contribution, i have ZC 1.3.2 and the latest QUpdates contrib i did install it following the guide, now when i did run the SQL patch it shows some exeptions and now it do not get the products to make the Quick Update... any one have an idea abput what is wrong here?

I have been trying this, and I notice that I can configure it to display different fields, but hitting update doesn't save the entries I have made or altered.
I have even deleted the SQL entries totally and inserted the full SQL files again to no avail.

I have got a version that that includes js script to add the possibility to update prices by including tax price. I hope to have some time soon to add it to this script. That version also includes purchase prices and margins.

This version enables you to enter the products price including tax, and the price ex tax will be calculated and filled in (using js).
I also made preparations to add a purchase price and calculate margin (profit in %) for each product (and store these values to the database). But this part is not functional yet. I commented these additions with "// add for products_purchase_price and margin". I think it is almost complete, but I am sure some more changes will have to be made and typos need to be corrected to make it really work.
For now those preparations are all disabled so they will not intefere with the normal operation of the script.
Please test extensively and backup your database before using it on a live shop! ;-)

About the profit/margin feature:
I was taking a look at the Profit Markup/Margin calculator by Farukh, and was wondering if it would be handy to add the same column names to the Quick Updates contribution. But unfortunately products_margin_gross_percent and products_margin_gross_dollar both are not column names I would like to use (product_cost is no problem).
So I guess it might be best to use constants to define the column names. Or even make the column names adjustable and add the definitions to the Quick Updates admin settings?

I was just checking out this contribution and noticed that the file in admin/includes/extra_datafiles is called qucik_updates_filenames.php.
I assume this is a typo and should be quick_updates_filenames.php. Hope that's helpful...

I had no plans to make any other major changes soon myself. Only some extra cleanup maybe and styling (coloring "important" columns and such), but there is no real need to do that now.

Just for the fun, I attached a screenshot of some experimental styling I was working on tonight
Note that the name input field is enlarged on ":hover" (using CSS) which makes viewing and editting easier (without the need of it taking up too much space when not hover).

I tested it myself, but I admitt that that's not a 100% guarantee that it's bugfree ;-)
The purchase price and margin are totally optionally, so I guess testing that part is not really required. It works, but by default it's off, since I guess most people do not want/need it and adding the extra columns into their databases would be a waist then (no sample sql is included yet to add those two columns).
One of the small (but many edits) modifications was converting " to ' and \" to "as much as possible. I think it makes the code easier to read and edit, and following the "Zen coding standards" better.
And currently the styles are in document, but I guess it would be better to move those to a separate stylsheet file (as well as the js?).

I meant, the sort order of the products themselves.
So, for example, supposing I had a category that sold, say, venereal diseases*, and I wanted to group herpes, Chlamydia and syphilis together, but have AIDS, Hepatitis and gonorrhoea also in the same cat, but grouped together, I'd give them a sort order of, say 100,150,200 400,450,500. But having to do this in each product takes a LOT of time!
(*Guess who's just given his 17th blood donation and knows the safety leaflet off by heart, AND wants to improve his spelling! :)

I think it would not be very difficult to add, but I do not know from the top of my head where these sort orders are stored, so it might be more complicated than I think atm.

I hope to test your new version soon. My version is currently diverting form the public one, because I need to add specific code to import data form a wholesaler website. Maybe I will try to run two versions to be able to use it like I want and still keep things synchronized with the public version.
I do have an improvement for the margin calculations. Originally the marginUpdate was only done on purchase price, but it appears to be very easy to change it to update on products_price and ex and including tax as well. It's a very small code change but a big improvement in usability thmo.
I also removed the "lock" form the specials myself. I think marking it as special is nice and handy, but disabling the field is *not* very handy sometimes. Or is it just me? And should we leave it disabled?

1. Andrew's latest version (v1.3.6 13.10.2006, available from the link in his post above - post #20) incorporates Paulm's v1.5.
2. It already does work with register_globals = off (I had downloaded an earlier version from the zen downloads section).

I noticed a bug: the sorting of prices does not work (at the catalog side of the cart) after using quick_updates to edit prices. I guess the fix is easy and we just need to add:

Just one thing - are the thumbnails supposed to show (if enabled in config)? - not seeing them.
Two suggestions/wishlist items:
1. Would it be possible to add a switch for enabling/disabling the display of price without tax? Quite a few people aren't registered for VAT and it would free up space on the screen if that could be disabled.
2. Would it be possible (big request :smile: ) to have the mod operate from a search query? ie. the user types in a search query for a particular range of products, can then update/change the products, or move them to different categories and save them. This would be an enormous help for people who have a lot of products and is something the admin as a whole would really benefit from when the shop owner is editing/updating products.
Oops, yes I was afraid a question like that would be asked sooner or later. I corrected something that I assumed was a spelling error or typo, but I did not really think about people that would update..... The older versions had TRUMBNAIL settings, and the newer version use THUMBNAIL setting (so your sql probably still uses THRUMBNAIL and the current PHP expects THUBMNAIL). If you can remove the sql and load the latest sql I think the problem will be solved. Or edit the settings, using phpMyAdmin for example, and change all TRUMBNAILS to THUMBNAILS in your database.Quote:

If I choose a category -> Max. # of lines per page drop down it does not pull info for that specific category... the max # of lines pulls up all of the categories. Is this supposed to work like this?
Not really supposed to work like that, but neither really designed to do it otherwise, I think.
Andrew has improved the contribution a lot, and also added the categories dropdown. And I did my best as well to make this contribution even more usefull then it already was, but it's certainly not perfect yet.
The way the selections are stored is still quite messy. I think that part needs to be rewritten, to use $_SESSION to remember the choosen category for example.
It can be done, it's just a matter of priorities :-)
Another minor update (no need to reïnstall). I added links to the products_id column, to make it easy view the product at the catalog side. Actually I added it because I need an alike modification for my own usage, that also explains why I added this link in a (more or less) strange way ;-)
*pixxie: as far as I know it *is* possible to disable the inc VAT prices after all ("Display price with all included of tax." setting in admin).
Also, SQL removal for this mod is already included in the installation SQL, so I will not add separate "remove.sql" file.
I will take a break from this mod now (really this time ;-) ), and wait and see what others might have to add to it. I will only do bugfixes if needed and if time permits.....

I was wondering how difficult it is to include "Product Qty Minimum" to the configuration for this mod. I have to go through a bunch of products and set a minimum quantity for ordering.
Let me know if this is possible and whether it's worth it to wait for the addition or whether I should just start plugging away at changing them one by one. Thanks.
I've updated an older version to the newer versions, and am curious how the category edit works. When I click on the 'e' under "category", it goes to the product page where you add a product, and there is no option to change the category. How is the change category functionality supposed to work?

I figured out what was going on... I had edit name "off" in the configuration option, but it still shows "Name" in the row header in the Quick updates page but the name doesn't show up below it... so everything was off one name, and the 'e' to edit the product was underneath "Category" so I got confused.
When you turn "Name" off in the options, is the name still supposed to show, but not be editable?
Not sure what the original author had in mind of course, but I noticed some edit on/off and some view on/off settings, so I assume the original idea was have some of the data shown even if the edit for it was set to off or false. And I must say I feel more confident when I can only edit what I want to edit, but still have a more or less complete overview (to make sure I am editting the right products).Quote:

I think i know what you mean, and it's mainly just some buggy IE hover behaviour. I must admitt that I did not check it in IE very well :blush:
Maybe I will try to improve the looks for IE some day..... but for now you can use Firefox, or set "Use popup edit" to false in the quick_updates admin. Or accept it how it is of course ;-)
You are correct it works correctly in FireFox. However I would suggest including the product name in the popup since the name field is quite small. I look forward for an ie fix. By the way I runing ie 7 and firefox 2.Quote:

Mainly added some comments and cleaned up a little bit of the table soup (only changed file since quick_updates-v-oktober23th-2006 is the admin/quick_updates.php file).
No need to update (but if/when I will update again it will probably be based on this version, so...).
I hope to have some time soon to clean up the page selection/sort order links logic. Another nice addition I *hope* to add soon is a list of updated products after an update is done (now it only shows the number of updates), and maybe a link to view a list of those products.
