I have set up two email accounts to get order confirmations...
The customer tried making an order but could not log into Paypal as there was a problem with the encoding... Here is the thread <http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42865>
Anyway, the problem was fixed and I emailed the customer to try again, which he did. PayPal sent a confirmation Email but the store did not.
I wonder if this is because when he logged in the second time, his data was there from the previous time and the store did not recognize it or something...
As we have no idea as to what he ordered, we are going to have to contact him directly...
Could this be a bug or was it just because of the PayPal encoding problem?

If these orders are related to what was happening at the time of the initial encoding problem, then I'd blame that problem.
Or are you saying that these orders are not getting completed "after" fixing the encoding problem?

Hello again...
The store has had one subsequent order since that order and it went through fine, appropriate emails were sent and received to the right people...
So I guess we should blame the initial problem (encoding) on the error...
If it should happen again, I will let you know!

Well, it looks like this problem is not solved!
Earlier today we received notification of a purchase from PayPal, but no record of the sale in the Store Admin...
So we did some testing and I placed two orders, one from the English side and one from the Japanese side... It worked fine, both PayPal and Purchase Notifications from the store were sent and in Admin, I could see the products purchased, and all the details...
However, just now we received another PayPal notice... but no records of the sale... The customer is register, that we know, but no purchase info... Nothing!
What can be going on?

If you're using the patch I posted, then edit the module in Zen Cart admin, and enable the Debug "Log" option.
Then use FTP and make this folder read/write:
/includes/modules/payment/paypal/logs/
Then keep an eye on it for a record of all PayPal transaction activities.
When you get a failed transaction, post the log for that transaction so I can inspect it.

Could you please be a little more specific on what you mean by ‘edit the module.’
Within paypal_fixes are four different php files, so I am not sure which one to modify and for that matter how to modify. I take there will be some code titled debug option that I will adjust...

Sorry - more specifically...
Go to Admin->Modules->Payment->PayPal ... click on Edit
At the bottom of the list is a debug option. Choose "Log" (not log+email)
Has nothing to do with editing any files.

Well, someone has finally made an order using PayPay be we received no notification and I looked in the log file and found it empty.
On reading your instructions, I now realize my PayPal Interface is not quite the same as what you mentioned... (I don’t know why I didn’t see this earlier...Ahhh...)
In the Payment section the title of the PayPal module is: PayPal IPN. After clicking on Edit at the bottom I see:
Debug Email Notifications
Enable debug email notifications
Yes
No
I had chosen Yes.
At the bottom I do not see any choice for what you had suggested in your earlier email, which was: Choose "Log" (not log+email)
Perhaps I have an older or incorrect module installed?
Anyway, I await your advice when you have the chance...

I'm having the exact same problem. It seems to happen only some of the time, and I can't seem to find what is causing the problem.
The only payment I accept is PayPal IPN. I'm getting payment notifications from PayPal, but I don't have any record of the sale in the cart. I can see that the customer has registered an account, but it says they have zero orders.
I've been having to send these customer's gift certificates for the amount of the PayPal payment and having them resubmit their order. This is a big hassel to both myself and the customer. A way to fix this would be great.

I am having the exact same problem. version I am running is 1.3.02 with the security patch. I went into admin > modules > paypal ipn >edit to initate debug but there was no option at the bottom to do any sort of debugging.
I had a customer from another country order something and pay via paypal. I received notification from paypal, but no record of order showed in the admin. The only record that was there was was when the customer created an account. This seems to be spontaneous as I tested paypal myself shortly afterwards and didn't have a problem.

PayPal debug support is not available prior to v1.3.5.
If you are having a problem with completing orders using multi-currency configurations, then you need to upgrade.

HI, I am having this same problem. I set up my site and did 2 test runs a couple of days ago and they were fine. Now I've made my first sale and I got the PayPal notification but no sale is showing up in my admin. So I tried a sale my self and I got the PayPal notification but again nothing showed up in my orders. I am running version 1.3.5. Can someone please help.

Check your PayPal settings. Somehow my IPN URL had gotten erased.
Someone else also mentioned that you can refund 1 cent of the purchase through PayPal, and these orders will show up. Just be sure that your PayPal settings are correct prior to doing anything.

Thanks Doc. I will upgrade as soon as the patched 1.3.5 becomes available as there seems to be so many reported problems with upgrading at the moment. Speaking of Patch, how far away is that? as you mentioned in the announcements that it would probably be about a week!

Is there any file or place I can look up to find out what my customer ordered so I don't have to contact them to find out. I don't really want to do the refund because he might question it.

Not that I could find. I did the partial refund thing as well, but that didn't work for me either. I think that your only option is to contact him and explain that there was technical glitch, and that there order details were incomplete and ask for them to confirm their order details. I felt a bit foolish and very unprofessional and will probably never have a repeat order from her again, but what else could I have done?
Hopefully there is someone out there with a better idea!!!

Thanks for the info, Merlinpa. I will keep that in mind for next time however;
if you view User Tracking whenever someone checks out and completes the sale then the cart shows up as empty, so won't this be the same for the MP Mod?
Also just a quick Question re: MP Mod. Do you have to install the MP Mod first if you want to install and use the Encrypted MP Mod?

One way to view the information for orders sent to PayPal is to use this contribution:

It seems odd that suddenly PayPal orders are not coming through properly, when they used to. That suggests that either there is a problem on PayPal's end (not uncommon), or something was changed on your server or hosting configuration to block the communications. Someone might ask PayPal what their system status is like...

I have had the same problem as others for absolutely no known reason. Reinstalls, email changes, etc did not help. I downloaded Dr Bytes PayPal sessions viewer and uploaded it to my zen 1.3.0.2 - The function shows up in the 'customer' section - but when I run it - I get a 404 error. I am sure it is because I am using a template. I have changed my admin directory name so I uploaded the 'includes' folder to the renamed admin directory. Question: do I need to create a "mytemplate" directory in the admin structure? If so, where. Thanks in advance.

Well, I have upgraded to 1.3.5 (uninstalled and reinstalled PayPal) and the problem persists...
Someone just placed an order on the English side of my cart and I didn’t get any notification from the store of what the order is. I tried refunding one yen but that did not work, either, I should add... So I will have to contact the customer.
I have just set the Debug log option so hopefully we can narrow down the problem with the next order.

Are you using your own template with over rides in place? if so, check to see if you have created a includes/languages/english/MYTEMPLATES/meta_tags.php - if so, delete it and your cart will be fixed immediately - refer to http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showth...839#post269839 for additional info.

Hi, it just happened to me again as well. I thought I had fixed the problem from last time but I got an order last night and all I got was a PayPal payment notification for the amount of the order with no receipt detailing the items sold from Zen Cart. I ran 2 sales through right after and they came through fine.
I don't get it.

Yes, did have the meta-tag files in the English folder and the Japanese folder. Have now deleted them and will do some testing...
It the post <http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showthread.php?p=269839#post269839> Dr. Byte says the problem has been fixed with version 1.3.5... Well, I upgraded and it was still happening!
Anyway, lets see how this works!

For other users having the same problem, it is probably NOT a good idea to delete the meta-template in your templates folder... Just change the name... That way you have a backup if the main one gets overwritten.

Well I am still running with v1.3.02 as having major difficulties upgrading at this time.
I have come to the conclusion that my problem with this particular issue is only confined to international orders. All domestic orders paid via Paypal process as they should
Don't know if this info would be of use to anyone having the same issue, just thought I would post it, just in case.
Still no closer to fixing problem at my end! :(

I have tested mine and when you are done paying with paypal you go back to my store and it says thankyou and clears your cart and everything. But it does not send any emails about the order and the order does not show up or anything.

It would be very nice if there were a module for adding orders, and you can select the customer from a drop down list and the product and the order status and then add it to the customers account. You could use the "view stuck paypal orders" module to get the product # and stuff. Then you would not have to email the customer his download or manually add the order with MySQL. :happy:

I too am having the problem. The log shows an IPN:Warning. Evidently the amount returned by paypal is less the taxes 3.51 vs 3.31. Here's the log:

Refunding $0.01 does work, you just have to wait until paypal releases its hold on the refund. Why does refunding make the orders show? I am interested.

Because it tells the PayPal server to try notifying your site about the order one more time. During a refund, it is also not trying to do a proper order-release which matches on dollar amount and currency.

That would be a bandage and not a proper fix. The true fix is to ensure that your paypal communications is happening properly.

weird, this started happening to me yesterday. Ive had my store opened for 6 months with no problems and now two orders came out of nowhere. The first time I just thought somehow the person just sent me money through Paypal, but the second time I tried that penny return thing and the order popped up.
I haven't changed anything in my files and I've had other orders go through just fine, do you think this is something weird going on with paypal or could it be something else?

Yes ... PayPal's servers have problems from time to time, and there may be delays in sending notifications to your store. Sometimes these delays may even go longer than the 48 hours during which PayPal repeatedly tries to connect to your store to notify you of a purchase.
I've observed, based on posts from numerous other storeowners, that about once a month PayPal's servers seem to have a hiccup for a day or two. You may or may not be affected by this.

Hi There
Well as I am still having major issues with my paypal for international transactions, I contacted paypal this morning, twice in fact. I explained the problem I am having in great detail and mentioned that there are other zen store owners having similar issues as stated in this thead. They were very polite.
They are going to look into this in depth and get back to me within 48 hours. In the mean time they will more than likely visit the forum and have a look around in the hope to gain a better understanding of Zen and hopefully without too much drama aid in a resolution.

I need your help, too. I have the exact same problem like everybody else in this thread. I posted a log file below (I removed some of the personal info). It tells me that the e-mail addresses don't match but as you can see they do. When I get rerouted from paypal to the checkout page of my store it also doesn't show me any order number nor do i see any orders in my admin. I already tried to delete the meta_tags.php file but it didn't help neither.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Seems like this is a common problem.
Annoying that this PayPal interface is so touchy -- I've been reading a bunch of different threads, and some people find a magic fix (something to do with taxes, or currency, or the "meta_tags.php" file or "custom" template folder, etc.) -- others of us have tried them all and nothing works.
I wish I knew the answer ...

I am also having this same problem, and have read through both threads here. None of the fixes suggested have been helpful for me. I am running 1.3.5.
We only run PayPal for payment on the cart, so it effectively means we need to shut the cart down until a resolution is found.
One thing to note, is I set up a free product to test and everything worked fine including e-mail order notifications, and the order appearing in the admin section.

Interesting ...
You mean you're using PayPal as a payment method, but not actually making a payment (since the item is free -- and I'm assuming shipping was free as well)?
I haven't actually tried that -- I didn't think PayPal would even process it if there was not transfer of funds whatsoever.

There's ONE thing I might still be able to try, which is this advice from the PayPal wiki ( http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/PayPal ):

16. Turn off ALL tax and shipping settings in your PayPal™ account. These will cause your transaction amounts to not match Zen Cart™ amounts, and thus your orders will not be released.
"
Only problem is I'm not sure if there's a way to just "turn them all off."
I don't have any taxes calculated (either in the store, or in PayPal).

(You have to choose a currency, "Cost Method" has to be set to either "Flat Amount" or "Percentage", I clicked on "reset" which empties out the costs under "Cost and Price Ranges," and I'm not sure whether or not to check the box "Allow transaction-based shipping settings to override profile settings (Optional)" [but I've tried it both ways].)
PayPal Shipping Information probably doesn't matter. But I'm fairly certain I have that set up o.k. (screenshot: http://platypusman.com/PayPal_Shipping_Information.gif )
In any case, the sale amounts are always correct (item price + ZenCart shipping cost). So I don't really see how it could be an issue with shipping costs?
I'm kind of hoping at this point that it's just a "hiccup" on the part of the PayPal site (as redxiii suggests), and they will fix it soon enough ...
I did email their tech support about the IPN issues, but haven't yet heard back.

No not through paypal, just a free order, with free shipping so it doesn't use PayPal.

It's not ideal, but it's better than nothing. After you get the email from PayPal, you just have to log in to your store Admin, go to "Customers" > "View Stuck PayPal Orders," and it will list the orders, then you just click on the "Move to Orders database" button to "push" them through. (Again, though, note that until you do this, the purchased item remains in your store for someone else to try to purchase -- problematic if you're selling one-of-a-kind items...)
I did try it, but when you have 100s of products in the store in different categories, how do you work out what the customer has ordered when there is only an id number associated with the order?
You mention a move to orders button, where is that? I don't have that displaying on the View stuck orders screen.

Hmm ... Not sure what to tell you. Maybe it's a version difference -- I'm using the latest ZenCart (1.3.5).

When you click the "Move to Orders database" button, the orders are processed as they should be -- thus you do have all the info you need in the Admin > Customers > Orders.

Also it's possible that there are two versions of the "PayPal Sessions Viewer" -- I notice that on the link posted in this thread, it says "Zen Cart™ Version: v1.2.5".
The one I download and installed was called "PayPal_Session_Viewer_v2" -- don't know the link off-hand, but feel free to download it from me here :

(Be sure to read the "ReadMe" file first, of course.)

Thank you Ungeziefer, I was using the older version, and the newer version has the move orders option in it! Yaaa to not having to take the site down.
Hopefully we will have a cause/fix for the problem soon! :)

my session viewer does not show any options to "push" orders either. What is the link for the version you have. I am using Zen 1.3.5 - but the session viewer said 1.2.5 when I downloaded it. Thanks

Thanks, the install instructions are different from ver 1.0 - in that one, everything was loaded into 'admin' dir. This one seems a little confusing because the download has several directorys (such as MACOSX) . Do I just go to /catalog/admin and then upload ?? Sorry for appearing dense - this install did not seem quite so straight forward.

Sorry -- that's very odd that there's a "MACOSX" directory. What else is in the hierarchy??
All you SHOULD have is a folder containing :
1.) "readme.txt"
2.) "catalog" (folder)
The "catalog" folder is equivalent to the root directory of your store.
So first copy "pushorder.php" to your root directory, then, yes, you go into your "admin" folder (into which you copy "view_stuck_paypal_orders.php"), then into admin/includes/... etc.
Copy all the files into the corresponding folders on your server. (Don't replace any folders, of course.)
Let me know if that made sense.
