Testimonial Manager Support Thread
Testimonial Manager 1.3.7 is available in the downloads section.
Testimonials. A sidebox shows portions of a random testimonial. When clicked on, the full testimonial is displayed.
This version of Testimonial Manager has been updated to remove the tables that were in the previous versions and takes advantage of the per-page stylesheet ability of Zen Cart version 1.3.7.

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Thank You Clyde. I'll be downloading this one and putting it to the test shortly. Thanks.

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
love your work clyde.
i wonder if you can help me please?
our site is at www.totalerc.com
its a showcase with prices so doesnt require logins etc.
i have TM installed (the previous version), but it isnt working for some reason and i plan to install 1.3.7 over the top of it shortly.
What i'd like to know please, is how i can get rid of the need to log in to write a testimonial?
i'd like it to perhaps just make a required field- name and location.
I hope that you can help please...perhaps others who dont have a need to have user accounts also would need this?
Cheers,
tim

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
1062 Duplicate entry '51' for key 1
in:
[INSERT INTO configuration_group ( configuration_group_id , configuration_group_title , configuration_group_description , sort_order , visible ) VALUES ('51', 'Testimonials Manager', 'Testimonials Manager Display Settings', '51' , '1');]
If you were entering information, press the BACK button in your browser and re-check the information you had entered to be sure you left no blank fields.
?

that means that that particular entry is already in the database table.
I don't remember if this is the last entry in the sql document or not. If it is then there is no need to worry about it.
if its not the last entry in the sql document then just delete that line and run the sql again.

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Which version of Testimonial Manager do you have installed?
I'm seeing several things on the version on your site that aren't part of version 1.3.7.
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Are you running version 1.3.7 of zen cart?
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
on my new server fiddleaustralia - yes
no for the odler one.
do you have msn or yahoo?
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
MSN - clydejones##########################.
Its past mid-night here so I'm off to zzzzzzzzzland.
I'd recommend downloading Testimonial Manager 1.3.7 from the downloads section and using that on your new site.
Do you already have testimonials for the new site?

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
I have the same problem with ver. 1.3.7 and I'm also running Zen 1.3.7 - no box in layout controller to activate... can someone offer a suggestion?
The configuration and the Testimonials Manager editor all displays, but no box to activate thus nothing shows on the site. I have installed locally first for testing (I never load to a live site first). I've checked and all files have been loaded to the correct areas. No errors are thrown.. just no box.. and the tpl files are there.. quite a mystery.
Thanks
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Never mind... missed the file in modules... Sorry for the post
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
As a side note to the above. You MUST have at least one testimonial in the database for the sidebox to show. In other words - No Testimonials, No Sidebox.
The code checks to make sure there are Testimonials in the database.
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Clyde, I have double checked everything (especially since I overlooked the modules file earlier) but when I view the test testimonial I don't get a button to add a testimonial. Instead there is a "Contact" link to the person's email that wrote the testimonial. I've reinstalled it twice now to make sure all is in the correct locations and all is perfect. Just can't add a testimonial.
I went into the config and change it to not having to be logged in and tried that... still no button. I know the buttons are there, as I built a new ones to match the site and loaded both the buttons. I don't have a broken image either.
Any clues?

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
URL so I can take a look!
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Finally got it working correctly...now I'm trying to get the style sheet set to show the box as the others are shown - as with yours... right now I have a box around the clickable title and nothing around the box with the truncated text... The border should encompass the entire side box... so I'm playing with that now...
URL - lorindascandlesandmore.com
Thanks

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Try something like this: I took the following from the view source of your site.
<div id="testimonials-managerContent" class="sideBoxContent"><b><a href="http://www.lorindascandlesandmore.com/index.php?main_page=testimonials_manager&testimonials_id=2">Wonderful Candles</a></b></div><div class="testimonial"><p>I just love Lorinda's Candles. They just never seem to lose their scent and they burn so clean. My favorite is Satin Sheets and Fresh Lilac. I won't...<br /><span><strong><a href="http://www.lorindascandlesandmore.com/index.php?main_page=testimonials_manager&testimonials_id=2">Read More -></a></strong></span><img src="includes/templates/template_default/images/OTHER_IMAGE_SILVER_SEPARATOR" alt="" width="100%" height="1" /><br /><a href="http://www.lorindascandlesandmore.com/index.php?main_page=testimonials_manager_all_testimonials">View All Testimonials</a></p></div></div>
You closed one div too soon(I think) - So try this:
<div id="testimonials-managerContent" class="sideBoxContent"><div class="testimonial"><b><a href="http://www.lorindascandlesandmore.com/index.php?main_page=testimonials_manager&testimonials_id=2">Wonderful Candles</a></b><p>I just love Lorinda's Candles. They just never seem to lose their scent and they burn so clean. My favorite is Satin Sheets and Fresh Lilac. I won't...<br /><span><strong><a href="http://www.lorindascandlesandmore.com/index.php?main_page=testimonials_manager&testimonials_id=2">Read More -></a></strong></span><img src="includes/templates/template_default/images/OTHER_IMAGE_SILVER_SEPARATOR" alt="" width="100%" height="1" /><br /><a href="http://www.lorindascandlesandmore.com/index.php?main_page=testimonials_manager_all_testimonials">View All Testimonials</a></p></div></div>

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
That is what I was looking at... here's the part I don't get... I've not edited your tpl's at all - I've just been looking at them trying to figure out where that code is coming from. I use FF, so when I view the ID's and the classes - nothing appears for the text and the "read more" for either an ID or class. Trying to figure out where the info was being pulled from, I even removed each style sheet one at a time. Did not effect the side box. I've gone into the style sheet and tried to use #testimonial-manager .sideBoxContainer and sideBoxContent to draw the border -
no joy.
You are correct there is an extra <div>, but where is it being pulled from?
I looked at the modules/sideboxes/testimonial-manager.php -
There is the following code: $title = BOX_HEADING_TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER;
$box_id = testimonials_manager;
I tried using that box id to create a new style... nothing... but in that file I don't see the extra <div> My tpl_index_default is standard and so is my tpl_main_page as I've created the entire look of the site via css - so I'm just really confused, as it's not a <div> I've created.
Thanks for looking at this for me.
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Found it... finally...LOL...it was right in front of me in the tpl for the side box.... I just kept overlooking it...
Thanks
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
I'll look at that file and see check to make sure it conforms to other sidebox code.
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Here's some CSS styling for the sidebox
Code:
.testimonial {
padding: 0 5px 5px 5px;
text-align:left;
}
.testimonial p {
margin: 0; padding: 0;
}
.testimonial span {
float:right;
}
and here's the modified code for sidebox/tpl_testimonials_manager.php
PHP Code:
$content = '';
for ($i=1; $i<=sizeof($page_query_list); $i++) {
$content .= '<div id="' . str_replace('_', '-', $box_id . 'Content') . '" class="sideBoxContent">';
$content .= '<b><a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER, 'testimonials_id=' . $page_query_list[$i]['id']) . '">' . $page_query_list[$i]['name'] . '</a></b><div class="testimonial">';
if (DISPLAY_TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER_TRUNCATED_TEXT == 'true') {
$content .= '<p>' . zen_trunc_string($page_query_list[$i]['story'],TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER_DESCRIPTION_LENGTH) . '<br /><span><strong><a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER, 'testimonials_id=' . $page_query_list[$i]['id']) . '">Read More -></a></strong></span>';
$content .= zen_draw_separator(DIR_WS_TEMPLATE_IMAGES . OTHER_IMAGE_SILVER_SEPARATOR, '100%', '1');
}
}
if (DISPLAY_ALL_TESTIMONIALS_TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER_LINK == 'true') {
$content .= '<br /><a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER_ALL) . '">' . TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER_DISPLAY_ALL_TESTIMONIALS . '</a></p></div></div>';
}
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Hello, how can i separate with a fine line the testimonials in the sidebox?
is there a way to make the field "testimonial title " not as required??
thanks!
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
For the first part of your question:
Open your includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/sideboxes/tpl_testimonials_manager.php
and replace the current code with the following:
PHP Code:
$content = '';
$content .= '<div id="' . str_replace('_', '-', $box_id . 'Content') . '" class="sideBoxContent">';
for ($i=1; $i<=sizeof($page_query_list); $i++) {
$content .= '<b><a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER, 'testimonials_id=' . $page_query_list[$i]['id']) . '">' . $page_query_list[$i]['name'] . '</a></b><div class="testimonial">';
if (DISPLAY_TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER_TRUNCATED_TEXT == 'true') {
$content .= '<p>' . zen_trunc_string($page_query_list[$i]['story'],TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER_DESCRIPTION_LENGTH) . '<br /><span><strong><a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER, 'testimonials_id=' . $page_query_list[$i]['id']) . '">Read More -></a></strong></span></p></div><br />';
$content .= '<hr id="catBoxDivider" />';
}
}
if (DISPLAY_ALL_TESTIMONIALS_TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER_LINK == 'true') {
$content .= '<p><a href="' . zen_href_link(FILENAME_TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER_ALL) . '">' . TESTIMONIALS_MANAGER_DISPLAY_ALL_TESTIMONIALS . '</a></p>';
}
$content .= '</div>';
For the second part; yes its possible but would require modifying several files.
I'll work on it and make a version update as soon as I can manage.

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Awesome mod! Question, How come on the testimonials read page, the quote marks don't show up in IE? Also, only the beginning quote marks show in FireFox. Shouldn't there be end quote marks? Thanks for the help!
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
They should show up. If they don't use the image from the attached file.
upload it to includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/images
in the testimonials_manager_all_testimonials.css
find the following declaration:
Code:
blockquote{background:url("../images/blockquote.png")0 0 no-repeat;border:1px solid navy;padding:10px 5px 0;}
change the .png extension to .gif
save and upload the file to your server.
The single quote is correct. It was a deliberate choice based on some research into "pull quotes" and "blockquote" styling.Attachment 1306

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Thanks for the awesome reply! One more thing, is an email suppposed to be sent to people after they submit a testimonial? If so, mine dosen't seem to be working.
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
I tried what you suggested about the quote mark thing not showing in Internet Explorer, and it still didn't work. I also checked your site and saw that the image dosen't show on your page as well in IE.

You should be getting the "shop owner" confirmation e-mail.

I did some research and came up with a solution (why it works I have no idea)
Open both testimonials_manager_all_testimonials.css and testimonials_manager.css
replace the entire blockquote declaration with the following:
Code:
blockquote {
margin:0 !important;
padding:0 !important;
background: url(../images/blockquote.png) top left no-repeat;
border:1px solid navy;
height:1%;
}

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Installed fine. Made a test submission, got this in the mail
Quote:
A new testimonial was submitted at HaskellGraphics. It is not yet approved.
Please verify thie testimonial and activate.
Now how do I verify and activate it so it appears?
I looked in the manager in admin panel. What am I missing?
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
I forgot the entire admin folder.....Sorry. Great contribution BTW. One other problem though. The e-mails are hidden on all testimonal page even though they are set to show in admin. On the single testimony page the email is shown as it should be?? Thanks.http://www.estore.haskellgraphics.co...l_testimonials
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Hiding the e-mails was a deliberate choice on my part. I did it mainly to cut down on spam bots that look for e-mail address.
I think I may have overlooked that line of code in the individual lisiting page.
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Clyde, you are officially the King of the sidebox modules! :P
Having just installed your Links Manager, I'm now thinking of adding this great mod. However, I'm running 1.3.6 - Do you know if Testimonials will work?
Thanks - Tim

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Tim,
Yep, yep, yep. It'll work with 1.3.6.

Copy the following sql code:
Code:
DELETE FROM configuration where configuration_group_id = '51' AND sort_order = '8';
DELETE FROM configuration where configuration_group_id = '51' AND sort_order = '9';
go to admin -> tools -> install sql patches
paste the code into the text box and click the send button.

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Great Mod from what I can tell. However I have an issue. Once I go in to post a testimonial I go to click the button "Submit my Testimonial" it has no link to go to. No hyperlink at all.
http://www.discountdiecast.biz Have to be a member to submit but will disable it until this is fixed.
Thanks for any help in advance,

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
open includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_testimonials_add_default.php
find
PHP Code:
<div class="buttonRow forward"><?php echo zen_image_button(BUTTON_IMAGE_SUBMIT_TESTIMONIALS, BUTTON_TESTIMONIALS_SUBMIT_ALT); ?></div>
and replace with
PHP Code:
<div class="buttonRow forward"><?php echo zen_image_submit(BUTTON_IMAGE_SUBMIT_TESTIMONIALS, BUTTON_TESTIMONIALS_SUBMIT_ALT); ?></div>

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Upgraded to 1.4
Used fix above for button which worked but now I notice this:
Quote:
This is just a test submission to show you how it looks, great, eh? TESTIMONIAL_BY_TEXTPerfect Designing
Looking at developers toolkit I see this line over and over
Quote:
<div class="buttonRow back"><b><?php echo TESTIMONIAL_BY_TEXT; ?><?php echo $testimonials->fields['testimonials_name'];?></b></div>
Is there a typo in there?
Would like to have it working as I am expecting some GOOD testimonials to be submitted soon.
Right now its empty.
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Make sure you have uploaded the following files which contain the define for that text element:
includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/testimonials_manager_all_testimonials.php
includes/languages/english/YOUR_TEMPLATE/testimonials_manager.php

But everything is in the same folder when I downloaded it and there were LOTS of files. Is the copy in the download section a good one??? THere is no file structure.
Thanks,

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
I answered this in another of your posts,
Open the new_installation or upgrade folders. I believe that both install.txt and upgrade.txt do indicate that you should open these folders before uploading to your server. Within these folders you will find additional folders admin and includes.

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Hey Clyde & Co -- Loving this addition to our site! Thanks a lot...
A small issue -- what would be the best way to add another quote at the end of the each testimonial? I was going to save out a new image, a reversed quotation mark, and just manually set the image in-- but then i noticed that <blockquote></blockquote> stuff which i've never seen before.
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
I'll put a fix together for you, may take a day or two though.

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7

This is an awesome mod - just need people to leave testimonials now.
Just one tad of a problem - can't see the add testimonial and submit testimonal buttons - only the text and red cross. Buttons are there in button folder of my template and also in default template just in case - but no buttons
Any ideas

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Great mod Clyde!
I have a dumb question.
I need to adjust the way the sidebox looks on my site: http://adriftwood.com
I want it to blend in and look like the other sideboxes.
I thought I knew how to do it, but apparently I don't. LOL
Everytime I try to change the background color, it's not solid...it's like it changes behind part of it, but not the whole box.
Thanks!
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
http://adriftwood.com/
I didn't see the sidebox at the above link.
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Sorry!
I had turned off the sample testimonial and didn't realize the whole box wouldn't show.
It's showing now. :)
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Try adding the following declarations to your stylesheet.css
Code:
#testimonials-managerContent {
background-color: #a5a58c;
}
.testimonial {
color: #000;
}
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Thank you Clyde!!
That worked great! :thumbsup:
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
To get it bit closer you could try adding the following: Highlighted in red
#testimonials-managerContent {
background-color: #a5a58c;
border-top: 1px solid #94947b;
border-bottom: 1px solid #494a44;
border-left: 1px solid #494a44;
border-right: 2px solid #494a44;
}
#testimonials-managerContent a:hover{
color: #ffffff;
background-color: #494a44;
}
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
You must have been reading my mind Clyde! :smile:
I'll go try that.
It was displaying perfectly in FF, but not in IE.
Trying to get those two in synch drives me nuts sometimes! lol
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
That looks better. :smile:
Is there anyway to decrease the spacing in IE?
Firefox is spaced perfectly, but to me everything looks too far apart in IE.
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Try adding the following: highlighted in red
Code:
.testimonial {
color: #000;
padding: 0 5px 5px 5px;
text-align:left;
}
.testimonial p {
margin: 0; padding: 5px 0;
}
.testimonial span {
float:right;
}
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
That made a big difference Clyde and looks much nicer!
I did have to change this:
Code:
.testimonial p {
margin: 0; padding: 5px 0;
}
to this:
Code:
.testimonial p {
margin: 0.3em; padding: 5px 0;
}
Because the grey "divider" line wasn't showing up correctly. It only showed half-way across the box.
This is such a great mod. You're the best! :thumbsup:

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
OK, it was my misstake and bad mouse; I missed a couple of files to upload. Got is going now. But I have a lot of Testimonials already, so how do I add them?
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
OK, I am just a bit slow - I found out how to add the Testimonials in the...
Admin ->Tools -> Testimonials Manager allows creating & editing of pages
Now I have a few other questions:
1. Is there a way to post a link to the person's website that is leaving the Testimonials?
2. And is there a way to change the date because I am adding older Testimonials?

2. And is there a way to change the date because I am adding older Testimonials?
The MOD uses the current date when adding testimonials. If you want to use older dates you'd have to use phpmyadmin and work directly with the database table for the testimonials and edit the date field.
Or
depending on how may older testimonials you have you could set up an SQL script to insert them into the table.

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Well I posted all 42 of my past Testimonials into the Testimonial Manager and I was able to put in a link to their website at the bottom of each testimonial. All looks good. This is a nice zen cart addin.
I was thinking of adding a image of their logo design to each testimonial and it would also act as a portfolio for my logo design work. But the image wouldn't show up, so I guess images are no go.

Nothing is impossible - There is a field in the database table that could be used for your purpose. Using it would require a re-write of some files in order to use it and to display the images. Give me a couple of days and I can put together a "custom" re-write for your purposes.
I'm guessing you added those testimonials through the admin -> tools -> testimonial manager.

includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_testimonials_manager_all_testimonials_default.php
includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_testimonials_manager_default.php
includes/templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/templates/tpl_testimonials_add_default.php

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
jonisolis,
Do you want your images to appear on both of the display pages:
That is, the individual page after you click on "read more" in the sidebox
and
The "view all testimonial" page(s).
How do you want the page to display?
image at the top with the testimonial below (left or right)
or
testimonial at the top and image below (left or right)
or
image/text wrapped (left or right)

YES

Well, I was thinking about placing the images at the top of the Testimonials and centered. I would also love to be able to link their logo image to their website. Are these things possible?
The images will not show up in the testimonial sidebox will it -- the images I want to post are a little too large for the side box.
Thank you bunches Clyde for all your hard work! Hope you had a great Easter and had some fun away from your computer.

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Dear Clyde, where do I go (what file or files) to change the color of the line that is between each of the Testimonials in the side box? I would like to make it a white line like the others on the sidebox. Thanks!

add the following to your stylesheet.css
Code:
#catBoxDivider {
border-bottom: 1px solid #fff;
}

image - top/centered
testimonial text - underneath.

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
jonisolis,
Here's your custom setup
unzip the file
run the enclosed sql statement from admin -> tools -> install sql patches
rename the YOUR_TEMPLATE folder to match your custom template
FTP both the admin and includes folders to your server.
Upload your images to your images directory.
Open admin -> tools -> testimonial manager
to edit your testimonials click the edit button on the right.
Add your links to the testimonial_url field.
browse to your images directory on your PC and select the appropriate image
click the update button

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
clyde,
unzipped the file and uploaded again. still no joy.
i've checked the final source code. i could see:
<div class="buttonRow back"><a href="http://img.maxsonic.co.uk/st/index.php?main_page=index"><img src="includes/templates/template_default/buttons/english/button_back.gif" alt="Back" title=" Back " width="105" height="29" /></a></div>
<div class="buttonRow forward"><a href="http://img.maxsonic.co.uk/st/index.php?main_page=testimonials_add</a></div>
i can see the add testimonial link but the problem looks like it can't locate the image button.

Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
Dear Clyde,
WOW, you are so sweet to do this custom work for me. I do hope many other people will find your custom work helpful for their sites. They could add a photo of the person leaving the testimonial. That is suppose to make the testimonial more believable.
I did notice that if I have to re-edit a testimonial that the URL disappears and then I have to edit it again and add the URL back in the URL spot.

I see on your test site that your quote images are showing up and the image in the middle too. But now on my site the quote images have disappeared. But it looks OK with or without them.

The quote images were showing up before I added the new custom image code.

Try working with the padding
blockquote div {
padding:38px 56px;
background: url(../images/rgtblockquote.png) bottom right no-repeat;
height:1%;
}
testimonials_manager.css
testimonials_manager_all_testimonials.css
Change them in increments of 10.
See if that helps
-
Re: Testimonial Manager 1.3.7
I tried a bunch of different padding sizes but the quote images never did show up again.
blockquote div {
padding:8px 6px;
background: url(../images/rgtblockquote.png) bottom right no-repeat;
height:1%;
}
to
blockquote div {
padding:108px 106px;
background: url(../images/rgtblockquote.png) bottom right no-repeat;
height:1%;
}
But it is OK; it looks good with or with out the quote images.
