I'm new to ZenCart, I just started working with it last week. I am in the process of setting up a ZenCart 1.3.8 for a acustomer that wants their store to run in both french and english.
I was wondering what's the usual turnaround time after a new cart version comes out to have the new language pack for it? I noticed that for the Canada Post one, it came out the same day.

There's no set schedule. This is open source and language packs are contributed by other users, often site developers such as yourself who create them for clients and then make them available to the rest of the community. So it can be any time from a day to never, depending upon the number of people working with that particular language and willingness to give as well as take.

I have some troubles to translate payment and shipping module...
I never used them and I dont really understand some define.
In authorize.net module, what are exactly "voiding transactions" and "capture transactions" ?
What are the differences between "freeoptions" and "freeshipper" ?
If french people here could explain me these with some examples that would be nice.

La qualité de mon français ne suffit pas pour une traduction, mais pour la vitesse, je vais essayer de t’aider.
Void a transaction = annuler une transaction
Capture a transaction = enregistrer les détailles d’une transaction
Il faut utiliser « freeshipper» si l’on a un produit pour lequel la livraison est gratuite. Pour exemple, un produit téléchargé, un produit établi comme « free shipping » dans Admin > Catalog > Categories / Products ou un produit acheté avec un bon qui l’offert spécifiquement la livraison gratuite.
C’est une option si la valeur total d’une commande dépasse la limite déterminé par le propriétaire du site, il n’y a pas de poids associé avec un produit ou tous le produits qui font partis d’une commande sont marqué comme livraison gratuite.
« Free shipping options » est similaire il y a aucune liaison entre les deux. Pour celui-ci, le propriétaire ne peut que fixer une limite basée sur le poids, le prix ou la quantité total d’une commande et offert livraison gratuite si cette limite est dépassée.
A part de différences subtile en ce qui concerne leurs utilisations, la différence principale, c’est que si « freeshipping » est déclenché, tous les autres options de livraisons disparaissent (= sont supprimer). Si l’on utilise « free shipping options » ils restent disponible.

I am doing corrections on a customer's 1.3.7 ZenCart french texts. I am trying to get rid of the "VotreNomDeDomaine.com, votre référence" Appearing on the site. I found that the one in the title bar is from:
/includes/languages/french/meta_tags.php
But I can't find the one that puts the same text on the home page. Does any of you know?

I havent's been able to find out how to change the title bar text in the admin tough. It's currently:

FR: VotreNomdDeDomaine.com
I did a search of "Domaine" in all the files in:
/admin/includes/languages/
You can't change that in the Admin. It's normally in includes/languages/english/header.php or, of course, includes/languages/french/header.php
Wouldn't those files be the ones for the customer site? I don't want to deliver a site with the "VoteNomDeDomaine.com" in the title bar. It doesn't look professional, even if it's the admin module and not the customer site.Quote:

In 1.3.7.1, Zen cart uses the Catalog's meta_tags.php definition of TITLE for both Catalog and Admin. I haven't tested 1.3.8, but have no reason to believe that it's different.

French translation is near to be finished but I will need some beta testers for shipping and payment modules.
I never used them and dont really understand how to configure them, so if you have time, have little skills in french, please help me to confirm that the translation is correct (or not to bad).

I did a checkout simulation. Here's what I saw:
- After choosing checkout, in the Paypal checkout box at the end it says:
"...un payement rapide." It should be "paiement".
In the delivery methods, I don't understand what those should be:
- Frais de Livraison / Montant
- Option de Livraison Offerte / Livraison offerte
For the store pickup option, I think "Retrait sur Place / Ramassage sur Place" is a good tranlation, the same as the 1.3.7 language pack, but I personally don't like it. For customers with 1.3.7 carts I change it for "Ramassage sur Place / Ramassage sur Place".
For USPS "État-Unis" appears as "E´tats-Unis".
What is the "Transporteur" delivery method?
For the payments, you forgot the uppercase "C" on: "chèques cadeaux".
What is a "Contre-Remboursement"?

- what is a "Maestro Issue No" ?
- what is the difference between "Credit Card First Name" and "Cardholder Name" ?
- what "funds-Capture" stands for ?

Maestro is a specific type of card that in addition to the normal card number and security number on the back has a separate number that indicates which of the cards issued on the account this is. Usually the first issued is 1, the second 2, etc. Other cards just build this into the 2-3 digits of the main card number.Quote:

It's ready to use and translating : catalog side, admin side, Zen Cart installer, and database content (configuration, configuration_group, and so on)

I live in the US but I speak French too, it is my native language and I am interested to keep a French language version of Zencart current. Is there a way for a few French speaking people to team up on this ? Like this the work could be shared between a few people.
I was also thinking about a way for the people working on language translations to be informed in advanced by the zencart dev team of the changes that are made in zencart before a new release is made.
This would help having an updated translation of a language at the same time as a new release.
I was also thinking of a french forum on the Zencart website. Unfortunately, a lot of french speaking native do not speak english that well.
Would Kim and Dr Byte be interested in something like this ? at least to add language pack translators in a mailing list to keep them informed of the new constants added or changed in the english language pack ?
This could maybe be co-ordinated through the French forum, which seems to have undergone a bit of a face lift recently.Quote:

running zen cart 1.38 on production server, I have installed French language pack with success. now running both English and French .
in admin i created single item with both languages. I noticed in whats new side box , two products being displayed one in English other in French . how can i only show this in selected language by customer ?
if im in english , and i click on product in french ( whats new side box ) i still get to english version of this . but having two displayed in different language is bit confusing

also noticed. the day of the week for Products added to catalog is in english and not in french .
I have installed the French language pack a couple of months ago and everything is working fine EXCEPT:
- i dont have the icon for "FREE". I have a red X
- i dont have the icon for "View" in the checkout/invoice. I also have a red X.
I cannot FIND those images in the pack. Where could i find them?
Does anyone have English instructions for installing this language pack? Despite me being in Montreal, I think I'm not understanding all of the txt and website instructions, which are all French. (I uploaded the files, set the language in Admin/Localization/Languages, but still do not see anything different.)
I long ago put "Francais" (created via EZ Pages) on the header bar under the top logo and would like that to link to the French version.

I realized the original issue was me having turned off the language selectors in Admin/Layout Boxes Controller and then I realized the French wouldn't work properly simply linking it from "Francais" in the nav header. So I found the below module and now everything seems fine, though I'm still unsure about what to do with the mysql_zencart.sql file.
