Getting Blank Page On Checkout after editing files with RTF editor

I upgraded and worked out a few things that needed changing to look like previous store.

I attempted to make a purchase to test the site.
I selected an item, clicked checkout, shipping options come up.
Left the default shipping selection as is and clicked on 'Continue Checkout' which should calculate taxes and such, but page comes up blank at this point.

Any ideas what I need to check out to get past this point?

From reading other posts, I am not the only one with this problem.
I tried what others have suggested with no success.
This was an upgrade and I don't want to start all over with a new install.

I checked the payment_checkout file and the new and old are the same size.
That hasn't changed.

Usually a blank page is the result of a bad, missing or otherwise corrupt file ...

To help rule out the template, switch to the Classic Template ...

Other things could cause this, perhaps an URL to your site would help us see the problem ...

What version Zen Cart did you upgrade from?

I tried changing the templates and get the same blank page on both.

I upgraded from 1.3.7 to 1.3.8

I switched my site back to 1.3.8, so you can see for yourself.


Something else I noticed is that 1.3.7 and 1.3.8 give different quotes for shipping prices.

I am getting a lot of blank pages on your site ...

Are you calling images, banners, stats or something from other sites?

Sounds like you may have some bad files loaded throughout your site ...

A bad FTP of file(s) can cause these problems ...

I only get the one blank page. Everything else is ok here.
I don't access other sites other than the shipping modules Canadapost and Canpar.

Which payment modules do you have installed? Which ones are enabled?
What happens if you turn them all off and then try turning them on one-by-one and testing again (just refreshing the blank checkout_payment page)?

Might try similarly with tax rates.

Also, when you upgraded, did you use v1.3.8 or v1.3.8a? Be sure to use 1.3.8a when you do it again.


Furthermore, it is wise to always do your upgrades in a test area, not on your live site.

Using Paypal Express Checkout. I removed it and put COD.
Got the same blank page.

This is a copy of my 1.3.7 site (test site - upgraded to 1.3.8a)

I deleted all the tax setup and still blank page.

What addons/contributions do you have installed on the site?
What *exact* steps did you follow to do your upgrade?

The only thing I have added is the 'blue sky' template.
Maybe Canpar mod if it wasn't in original download.

I also removed the canpar and kept canadapost, still blank screen.

I will try uploading all the files again, but don't see the point since it was tried by others already with no success.

Each case is unique.
Your situation is apparently related to the checkout_payment page.

Most of the others I've seen are related to the checkout_process or checkout_success page ... and that's a result of an email problem, for which a fix has been published.

Since yours is failing on the payment screen, it's important to know which payment modules you have enabled. But, you keep talking about shipping modules instead ...

I tried the above and can't view any page of site.

It seems you've made a typo. There were no \ marks in the suggested code.
Please try it again.

Don't see how it's a typo. I copied and pasted what you put.

I tried 3 times with the same error.
On the fourth attempt, the error never came up.

On clicking on Continue Checkout, still get the blank page.

I opened the includes/local/config.php

Where the heck is all that junk coming from? That's what I was referring to when I said "typo". You'll notice that what you quoted as being in the file is *not* what I had suggested you put in the file.

What software are you using to edit PHP files?
What software are you using for uploading and downloading files to/from your server?
If it's a microsoft product, dump it and use something reliable.

Perhaps you've got corrupted PHP files on your server as a result of using unreliable tools to do your file uploads ... hence the blank page during checkout.

I put exactly what you gave me and uploaded it with SmartFTP.

I give up. Going back to my 1.3.7.
Don't have the patience.

just incase anyone else is experiencing this error (l was), l followed the instructions given, and got the following fatal error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined method ot_insurance::get_order_total() in /home/xxxx/public_html/products/includes/classes/order_total.php on line 181

l then looked for and found an old shipping insurance module in admin that l was no longer using, turned it off, and voila, everything worked again.

Try using notepad and using "Auto" mode for upload. Looks like the RTF editor you are using is adding the formatting code to the text

Well after putting it off for a while, I attempted it again and still got the blank pages. So I said screw it and started from scratch. One thing I did notice is that the Canadapost shipping module had to by upgraded for the new version.

I am thinking that this module was causing the blank screens in the checkout process. Could this be the issue?

A blank page on checkout is likely a php error but ZC is supressing the error. You need to get this to find out what the error is.

I've getting the same problem, only mine is on the checkout_success page. I've replaced the tpl_checkout_success_default.php in the /includes/templates/template_default/templates directory, and have also uploaded it into my custom template directory at /includes/templates/getskinsnow/templates

I've also uploaded a fresh new copy of the /includes/languages/english/html_includes/define_checkout_success.php file.

nothing seems to resolve this.

ALSO, I've changed to the Classic Green template, and other "stock templates" that come w/ the default install, and the problems occurs there as well - so perhaps, is this issue on the Checkout Confirmation page? I can't see how, since if it were a custom template issue, it wouldn't be happening on the classic template too.

HELP! DrByte, you said something about this being an "email issue" and a patch was available? I've got the lastest version installed, 1.3.8a.

I never figured it out either and gave up. I used my old version up until 2 weeks ago and then did a fresh install. Very time consuming since you have to rebuild the entire site. It has to be some kind of bug if several people have the same issue.

hate to hear that .. I've also replaced the header in the /modules/pages/checkout_success.

I've installed the debug utility, and nothing is being written into /cache/ and yes, my permissions are correct.

hope someone can shed some light on this ASAP.

Yea - I was disappointed on not finding out what the culprit was.

My initial site wasn't to large but was still time consuming starting from scratch.

My site now is getting bigger and growing, and if the next update causes the same issues, I won't be updating. Don't have the patience to go through it all again.

breck's issue is file corruption, caused by the server or the ftp software, or something akin thereto. An entirely isolated case as far as I can tell ... the only report of such things after over a million downloads of Zen Cart.


Fred, your issue is not the same as breck's ... unless of course you're seeing the same extra junk in the files after uploading them to your server. So, rather than confuse issues, it's better to take your discussion to one of the other places where you've double-posted the identical question.

I'm not sure where/what you're referring to.

When going through check out process, we eventually get blank white page.
I believe it comes after choosing payment and shipping options, then the blank page comes. We posted the pages we were getting that were blank.

hey - FYI, I backed up my entire folder, wiped it clean, and re-installed a fresh copy of the entire shopping cart ... used the same database, and same configure.php files, ran the update command ... everything is working now. The only contributino I've yet to add back in is the Magne ticOne Export tools, which I'll attempt to install/use today.

My errors were located in these error logs below. I replaced them and started working again. I also never touched or modified those files, which is a mystery.

On checkout, on step 2 (checkout payment page), I would get a blank page.
I did the debugger and the error read:

PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function: get_order_total() in shop/includes/classes/order_total.php on line 181

Someone in this thread mentioned an old shipping insurance mod they had deactivated. I had the Optional Shipping Insurance mod installed and I deactivated it, which fixed the problem. There is an upgrade for it, meant to work in 1.3.8, but I haven't installed it yet.

I was using a stock install with no additional mods.
Still happened and no fix that I could figure out, so eventually had to re-install the entire site from scratch to get around the problem.
