Column Divider Pro (CDP) Contrib - Official Thread

New Release.

As with my tabbed products contrib, I've bumped this up to a "Pro" version now too mainly to start fresh with 1.3.8a. I've also done a little bit of merging of "Column Divider Lite" with "Designer Monthly Boxes".

I'm no longer going to support the old contribs and now will support only this one.

For those of you unfamiliar with this contrib, it is a little step if fancying up the grid layouts throughout Zen-Cart. This will make a divider for ALL pages that reference the tpl_columnar_display.php file.

It is quite simple to use. Just add the included tpl_columnar_display.php file to your template folder and it will override the default zen-cart one without changing any core files.

This will give divider lines for the following modules/pages:

- New Products on the main page
- Special Products on the main page
- Featured Products on the main page
- Special Products on the Specials... link
- Additional images on the product page
- Customers Also Purchased on the product page
- Cross Sell on the product page (note that Cross Sell is a separate contrib that would need to be installed separately.)

- I've also added a custom product_listing.php file in the modules area for those who use the ColumnGridLayout contrib. To use it, simply remove the excess text after the filename and it will override.

Note: If you are already using the Designer Monthly Boxes (DMB) contrib or Column Divider Lite, CDP will replace most of the files with the correct files so it should be a painless transition.

Some changes from those previous renditions include fixing the spacing calculations to use a -0.5 so that there is always room for the divider line. And some css additions to prevent hidden horizontal lines.

I have installed Column Divider Pro over the 2 previous mods.

I also had already installed the Column Layout Grid mod.

I removed the text at the end of product_listing.php and uploaded over the previous file.

However, when I click on a category, it came up with an error.

I since then deleted the Column Layout Grid mod files and uninstalled from SQL Patches.

I notice that you have the products in a category showing properly at the link here for example:

Would you be able to explain the process for me now to get the categories pages showing properly?

Do I just reinstall the Column Layout Grid mod now, or should I do something else.

Ok, the zc1.3.8 version of that file uses a new function that zc1.3.7 didnt have. So i added a version for both 1.3.7 and 1.3.8 to the modules file for product_listing. use the one that matches your zen-cart version

No other files changed, just included a file for zc137 product_listing

Usually the skinny text means you didn't upload the modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/product_listing.php file. But it also looks like you have something there making the alignment of the text and image be off-center.

i guess the issue might be with how this works with a contrib called category rows that lists the sub categories underneath the categories

i can't find it on the forum now but something is going goofy with the spacing on the categories

what files should i be looking at?

also how do i adjust the spacing in the product cell & category cell - i want to reduce the space between the content & the dotted seperator

I seem to have the same problem as SGFlowers. Im using version 1.3.8A and the contribs I've installed are Tabbed Products, IH2 and Blank Sidebox so I don't think I have anything that will conflict with this mod.

OK for both of you it seems to be the same problem. The custom product_listing.php file I included is not being loaded. The only change in my custom product_listing.php file is that I force the inner width of the div to use 100% of the div so you don't get the skinny text. In looking at the source code on both of your sites, I can see it is using the default size instead of my size.

Please be sure that you are uploading it into a folder of the same name as the template you are using.

For example. If your template is
/includes/templates/silverfish/
then you need to put the product_listing.php file into:
/includes/modules/silverfish/product_listing.php
for the override to work. You should have to replace the one that Dr Byte included with the Column Grid Layout.

If you still can't get it working, perhaps you can set me up as a temporary ftp access and i can see where the disconnect is.

for me it might have something to do with the categories_row being loaded

i definitely have the files in the right place

i'll do some more exploration on that contrib

Hmm... you're right... im not sure how you got that :P I will have to do some more digging. I will also check the category row contrb.. but i think since berserk is also having the problem that it may be something else.

Ok I think i know what the problem is. I am referencing a variable that is being overwritten on your sites, but not on my site. I have to figure out a way to persist the value. this is a CDP bug. I remember this kinda problem from the Lite version too now that I think about it.

-EDIT- OK i see the problem. And I see why I don't have that problem on my site too. I will add code to ensure that it always uses 100% instead of replacing the value for only certain row counts.

Fixed:
- Added code to always keep the inner width = 100% to avoid skinny text.
Files changed:
/common/tpl_columnar_display.php

This should work for all zc versions.

Uploaded this new update and worked great! Im just wondering, how do I decrease the space above the product image and below the price? I tried changing the css file but that didn't do a thing.

yep. I probably should put that in the stylesheet instead of hardcoding it in the tpl_columnar_display file.

That appears to be a feature of the category rows. If it came with its own stylesheet, it would be something in there. Look for categoryListBoxContents section in the css.

I have uploaded the 1.38 version of product_listing.php and the lastest tpl_columnar_display file that you have posted in this thread, however there still seems to be something funny occuring when I click on a category. As you will see in the link below, the images are spaced out all wrong:

I don't see my code loading on your page. I see some
<tr><th> stuff ... and some table properties like id="cat1Table" and stuff for that page.

Mine has <tr><td> and i haven't added an id yet.

Maybe when I uploaded it, it didn't upload properly.

It is only my test site anyway (I do all mods on this one first, before doing it on my main site).

Im thinking of installing Column Grid Layout but I already have this installed. Should I uninstall this and then install Column Grid Layout then install it again? Or will it work just fine?

Can you tell me what code I need to add to your mod to allow a quantity box to be added next to or above the add to cart button? I have tried using quantity box code from other parts of the cart but haven't had any success. I would greatly appreciate any advice or code to get this working.

Yes, we sell some products that would always be bought in multiple quantities so it would be more intuitive and user friendly to have a quantity box with the buy now button so we can capture sales directly off of the index page.

It would be really awesome if you can add the quantity box, or the ability to turn it on or off in the script.

I have tried again last night for a couple of hours to use various quantity box variables from other pages but I am in PHP 201, I know enough to do some modifications and a few basic things but not quite enough yet to figure out why the code that I am trying to insert isn't working. I can get the quantity box to show up but it won't actually add the inputted quantity into the cart and I can't see why.

I'm replacing DMB with a new contrib called "MonthlyBuyNow" (working name, might change)

I'm trying to make it allow:
- Buy Now/More Info
- Attributes
- positioning of image/text/buttons
on the Monthly boxes (New for Feb, Featured for Feb, Specials for Feb)

And also get Attribs on the Product Listing pages (All Products, New Products, Special Products)

I'm leaving the divider line stuff to "Column Divider Pro" and keeping the functionality of the two separate, unlike what I did with the original two.

ahh ok thats what I thought. I will see how to make strpos not throw an error when that setting isn't there. Depending on which box is calling it, it may or may not supply that value. I just thought it would ignore it if it couldn't find it, like every other programming language, but I guess php wants to be special :P

Ok I think i fixed the problem. I was using an unneeded offset value. So I removed it. Give it a try and let me know if you are still seeing the error.

Also updated the stylesheet to remove some erroneous css entries.

Only Files that changed since v0.3:
- templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/common/tpl_columnar_display.php
- templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/css/stylesheet_dotline.css

You have that error because you used the zc 1.3.8 version of the product_listing file on a zc1.3.7 store. Read the readme carefully.

You can remove it by removing all the files that came in the zip.

I previously installed Column Grid Layout, and this morning I installed Column Divider Lite. For the most part it works great, and is what I was looking for. The only thing, is the text is wrapping. How do I get more text for the product title on one line. In fact, I would love the product listing to look exactly like it does in the Featured Products box.

First, when you say "Column Divider Lite" I hope you mean "Column Divider Pro".

Second, the text wrapping is due to the Column Grid Layout contrib. If you look in the modules YOUR_TEMPLATE folder there are 2 product_listing overrides that are used when using Column Grid Layout. Use the one that matches your zc version to fix the wrapping.

I replaced the Lite files with Column Divider pro files. I still have the text wrapping. I am not sure what you mean by use the "one that matches your zc version". I do see two files in the Column Grid layout contrib. One ends in BAK. I loaded the other one. Should I have loaded the BAK?

No. I am referring to the Column Divider Pro contrib.

In the zip file, there are 2 files:
includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/product_listing.php_UseWithColumnGridLayout_zc137
includes/modules/YOUR_TEMPLATE/product_listing.php_UseWithColumnGridLayout_zc138

If you are using the Column Grid Layout to show the product listing in Column instead of Row form, you need to override the Column Grid Layout version by either replacing the original or by using an override of your template folder by changing "YOUR_TEMPLATE" to the template you are using.

Use the version that matches the version of Zen-Cart you are using.

I should also point out that the first page shows 0.1 but on page 5 there is a version 0.4 that has the fixes you need.

I've also uploaded it to the Downloads area and will be uploading a redirect message to the old Column Divider Lite contrib.

Now if only I could figure out how to get the product title font to match exactly like in the Featured Products box. I think I just need to unbold it. I already changed the font size.

Check the CSS of the Featured Products title and apply that same CSS to the product listing css.

I wanted to share something with you guys/girls.

Regarding the way firefox handles links...

...did it ever annoy you how firefox leaves dotted lines, which wraps around the linked tabs? There is a fix for this.

Here is a CSS example:

When we go to install this mod it makes all of our featured boxes, new products, specials, customers also bought.... box's width smaller. Which is making the box's look worse with this mod instead of better. Any idea on how to fix this error? A picture is attached below to hopefully help you

Hmm i've never see that problem. You are sure you uploaded all of the files? Do you have a live link i can view to see if i can figure out the problem.

It seems that for it to work for every aspect of a link, ie before, during and after clicking, I had to add outline: none; to a:link, a:hover, and a:visited. Now there is no dotted box around any link in FF.

edit the stylesheet_dotline.css in your template/css folder

change the background-image for both vertical and horizontal to a diff pic.
you may also have to play with the height/width props

There are no solid divider lines. There are only NO lines (default zen-cart) or the dotted lines that come with CDP.

I'm not sure what you mean by your last question. You simply upload the files in the zip to your template. tpl_monthly_display.php is one of the files that will be accessed by this contrib as it uses its own version of the file.

Sorry about that! I don't know why I had it in my head at the time that Zencart default has solid lines.

The reason I asked about the uninstall is because now that I have uninstalled both the CDP and the columnar mod, my new products on the main page are looking pretty awful. I reset the settings back to where they were, uploaded the ZC default files from a new install, yet the main page as two columns of new products, one with 5 in a row and the other with 4. My boss (whom I'm conveniently blaming) is about ready to string me up.
If I hadn't already installed over 20 zencart sites since I first discovered it, I might have an excuse, but in this case all I can do is claim stupidly as I am totally stumped on this one.

Are you referring to the "Column Layout for Product Listing" that allows you to see columns instead of rows?

If so, then CDP is compatible with it if you read the readme and use the support files. If not then please explain a bit more.

Yes I am. I understand they are compatible as I read all the readme files prior to installing.

In fact I had to re-install it last night and what is confusing me is despite the fact I had done the remove sql statement, overwrote all the files for both mods with clean install files, yet as soon as I uploaded the mod, the dotted lines re=appeared and the products lined up as they should be.

This was without re-installing the column divider pro mod. The only files I had not removed were the image files. There's no stylesheet, mod files, etc. yet it's there. :blink:

So I'm just leaving it alone. The only thing I wish I could fix is the fact the new products on the main page are aligning to the right. They also did that prior to the uninstall when the stylesheet for the mod was there, so I don't know where to fix it.

It's all or none I'm afraid. It's a simple contrib that utilizes the tpl_columnar_display.php file, which is a common file used by most containers that show pictures.

I am not getting the Horizontal dots in IE7 do you know of this problem?
I tried to modify its style sheet but no luck.

I thought that was a IE6 problem only. But the Pro version has a fix for that with the padding section in the .hDotLine part of the css. Do you have a link I can see?

Did you edit the tpl_columnar_display.php file?
Looking at your site i see that the table that wraps around the boxes that use the divider are set to cellpadding="0" and cellspacing="0".

In my code I have it set to
cellpadding="1" cellspacing="15"

Perhaps this is the problem?

But if it works for the Vertical why not for the Horizontal?

You can change the column count, tho it should be automatic.. but still you might need to leave at least 1 cellpadding or 1 cellspacing.. instead of 0

I have changed the cellpadding and cellspacing to 1 but the IE problem is still there, no horizontal dots

Ok, i fixed it. I changed the width in the stylesheet for the additional images.

I use column grid layout and just installed Column Divider Pro.

Everything looks great except one alignment problem.

Did you apply the grid layout fix that I included with CDP?

- I've also added a custom product_listing.php file in the modules area for those who use the ColumnGridLayout contrib. To use it, simply remove the excess text after the filename in the "modules/YOUR TEMPLATE/product_listing.php_Use_with..."and it will override.

Well, I checked the page and it seems that its not loading the product_listing.php file with the division by number of columns.

It should be taking 100 divided by the number of columns minus 0.5 when using the product_listing.php from the columnar display or the patch from CDP. But on your site, each cell is showing as 100%. Be sure you don't have an override.

You are sure you renamed the file with CDP from
"product_listing.php_UseWithColumnGridLayout_zc138"
to:
"product_listing.php"?

from

/public_html/includes/modules/"my_template"

and website layout style changed to rows!!!

So I guess file is working and probably something else is overriding the file.
Am I right? if yes is there anyway for me to figure this out?
