Use the debug thingy by Drbyte and the error will show up in your /cache folder. Copy the contents here and someone will be able to help you from there.

i did the debug thing but i dont get a debug log anywhere to check. any suggestions?
Which checkboxes does the upgrade screen have already-checked for you?
this is right before i get the blank page

Is your /cache/ folder writable?
Are there any zcInstallxxxxxxx.log files in it? If so, please zip them and attach them here.
i'm so stupid. ive been looking offline for the debug logs.
i don't know where to upload the zip file so i just mega uploaded it.

Are you running your live site on xampp?
i dont know. how would i go about finding out? asking the admin?
None of the logs you posted are related to the installer/upgrade process.
But they are certainly telling you that you've got problems in your addon template:Code:[14-May-2008 10:59:18] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_VARIABLE or '$' in C:\xampp\htdocs\bathscale\includes\templates\free_blue\templates\tpl_product_info_display.php on line 86
i posted a file to replace it that should work and kill any errors. i wonder why thats still happening. other than those files, there are no debug logs. would they be any where else?
Well, the screenshot you supplied earlier shows that you've got a www.bathxxxxxxx.com domain running, but indicates that it's running from c:\xampp\htdocs\......
I don't understand why you're running a live website on a xampp setup .... when xampp does not have any security protection on it.
its my boss who did this. i have no idea nor control over this xampp.
so since there are no logs, there is no help as to why the upgrade isnt working?
there isnt even any code when i view the source to the blank page.
For fastest results you need someone who is experienced in these matters to sort everything out. As mentioned already by DrByte, if this is a Live site and being run from a personal computer using XAMPP, then you are going to be hacked fairly soon. Best to get a good Hosting account which will give better security -- and Tech Support by knowledgable people in these areas.
LOL well thats great, the network admin helped set this up. they are as clueless as i am. thats another reason why im on these forums, no one else knows how to do half of what im doing right now. i wish i had a real programmer to help me.
Make a post in the Commercial Section of the Forum. Should be able to get qualified help.
But... my suggestion to get a proper Hosting account still stands. Do not Host Zen Cart or any site for that matter, on a personal computer. Even within a Business setup -- using Networked Servers -- one still needs someone who is familiar with Security for Hosting.
o thank you
aw wait i dont know if they will pay for info. :(
I say the following in all honesty.
Why would someone invest the time / money in a Web site if it is not going to be properly maintained and with good security?
Problems will always come up within a Hosting account and that is why Hosters have Tech Support. Also why Hosters make the investment to secure their Servers. Much easier to prevent a Hacker / Spammer than to clean up their mess afterwards.
i agree with you but im just an employee, no one will listen to me. honestly i have the least amount of experience with hosting and servers and such, the admin is in charge of all this and i guess he's just doing whatever. if i had this much time and trouble with just initializing the site id have it under lock and key and have a few backups but this isnt how the company works i guess.
if Dr. Byte is available, my admin checked the database for any error logs and there was nothing. we're not sure why i can't upgrade and why we can't seem to find any kind of error log anywhere.
does anyone have any suggestions?
WOOT! its fixed.
my network admin said the zcinstall folder had to be moved to the highest folder (which the instructions did NOT say for those who will spew the "read the instructions" crap i keep hearing) and now its updated! YAY!:clap::clap::clap:
To clarify ... the zc_install folder needs to be in the same folder as your Zen Cart shop in order to work.
ie: in the same place it's located inside the unzipped fileset.
idk like i said my admin figured it out and he said it had to be moved
Upgrading 1.3 x 1.3.8. New database created. No probs listed during upgrade process that would prevent upgrade. Get to the button to UPGRADE and see the warning
After clicking below, DO NOT INTERRUPT. Please be patient during upgrade.
I click the button and patiently sit watching a nearly blank, white, static page that only contains this message:
in:
[select admin_id, admin_name, admin_pass from zen_admin where admin_name = 'maggiemadeit']
Since the previous page told me DO NOT INTERRUPT and to be patient, that's what I'm doing. But there's really nothing to indicate that the upgrade is in progress, and I have no idea what the "select admin" message on the static page means. Know it's saying something about my name and password, which I am 100% sure I entered correctly.
What do I do now? I've searched the board's other posts and can't find this same issue.
TIA.
Maggie
The [select admin_id ....] text is part of a database error message.
That scenario has been reported a couple times, and the workaround has typically been to check only ONE of the required checkboxes at a time, returning to check the next box etc until all the needed upgrade steps have been completed.
