138 mods tested on 139
Dont know if the Devs mind me posting this.. but then if they dont they can delete it or move it somewhere else as its not so much about 139 bugs or out.
I have started testing Add-ons and although i have ONLY just installed and played... it might be helpful to some others out their that have no backbone (like me) when it comes to upgrading.
ON a clean install of ZC139 the following mods seem to work just as well on 138a
(in fact the sites seems a fair bit faster than a 138a.. but then that could just be excitement)
Image Handler 2 - No problems as yet
Zen Lightbox - No problems as yet
Module Manager Revision 185 - No problems as yet
JUst another Xsell Mod - No Problems as yet
Category Dressing - No problem as yet ;clap;
Display Inc/Ex Tax or VAT Prices - doesnt work properly (but then that could be me not installing it right?
dont know about you lot but im at the gym at 6am and im funked... i will play more over the next few days and test the following
Admin Profiles (kuroi)
Ask a Question (SWGUY)
Ez Pages Metatag Fields (Ebspromo)
Simple Google ANALytics (EConcepts)
Encrypted Master Password (Dennis Sayer)
Login As Customer (Sid Smith)
Edit Orders (Scott Turner)
Invoice (SWGUY)
Login Spruce Up (Tony Cradwick)
Add customers from Admin (Crunch)
BORED OF TYPING... LOADS MORE...
Unless other already know the craic.. (god i have no life:cry:)

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Funny - I *almost* created a thread like this myself.
So far, for my stuff:
- Quantity Discounts and Better Together both work with 1.3.9.
-
Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Random question, but will it matter what order you install the mods in?
for example, what if the mods work in the installation order MOD A, MOD B, MOD C, but don't work in the order MOD B, MOD C, MOD A.
Does it matter which mods you build your 'foundation' with? or am I just being silly?
-
Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Either way will work as long as you merge changes as you go. If mod A makes changes to the shopping cart template and so does mod B, you cannot simply copy the shopping cart template from mod A or mod B to your template directory - you have to merge the changes each one makes to your final file. A good rule of thumb is:
a) If a file in a mod is a template file (override file), does it already exist in your cart? If so, merge the changes in.
b) If a file in a mod is not a template file, does your cart already change this file? (Compare it with a fresh download to determine the answer.) If so, merge the changes.
Keep a fresh, unmodified download somewhere on your computer for reference and use a comparison tool such as WinMerge. And always make a backup!
-
Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Legitimate question. If two mods both alter the same file, then their versions of the file would have to be merged, no matter which order they were installed. If they don't interfere that way, it shouldn't matter.
It is conceivable that there could be database changes that would make a difference, but if so, at least one of the mods will likely mention the dependency, or there will be discussion of it in its support thread.

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Yo..
UPDATE
i originally reported that:
Display Inc/Ex Tax or VAT Prices - doesnt work properly (but then that could be me not installing it right?
I am very pleased to say that it was me being rubbish again!
All works great!!! (with one small tiny thing of Admin Setting * show price with TAX = FALSE *, Still shows the price with VAT on the product listing, but then that happened for me on 138a.. personally im over the moon.. If this is a sign of something bigger not working.. then im not bright enough to work that out)

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Shane, what config are you testing on?
MySQL-version, PHP-version etc.
Wondering because I'm running PHP5.3.1 and most add-ons I use I have to rewrite for getting it to work. It's easier to know which add-on is already compatible with php5.3

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Hi arjen,
I never thought about that.. Here are the details for my server.
Server OS: Linux 2.6.9-78.0.13.ELsmp
Database: MySQL 5.0.67
PHP Version: 5.2.9 (Zend: 2.2.0)
so far, i have not come across any mods that dont seem to work, but i have only had the chance to try about 5 (in first post). I believe kuroi is having a far more indepth chat with someone about 138a mods running on PHP5.3... somewhere in this 1.3.9 BETA program feedback forum... (i think)
What mods have you tried that have not worked on php5.3+ ?
-
Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Can't remember which, had to change a lot suddenly, 'cause my hoster suddenly changed to php5.3
-
Re: 138 mods tested on 139
UPDATE: (if it helps)
1.3.8 mods i have working on 139 running off
PHP5.2.9 (Zend 2.2.0)
MySQL 5.0.67
Image Handler 2
Zen Lightbox
Module Manager Revision 185
Just another Xsell Mod

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
can the mod testers please verify what version of PHP they are running under? Want to make sure while we are at it that they all work with 1.3.9 on 5.3.x if possible since many hosts are switching soon or have already switched. Or is that outside the scope of this thread?
-
Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Hi,
I can only answer for myself.. sadly
im on php 5.29.
I bloody hope these mods work on 5.3!!
id not say im a mod tester.. just plodding thru the mods and documenting my findings in the chance it might benefit someone.
I would dearly love it if a smarter more ZC savvy person were to takeover or help.. ideally using 5.3

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Whether an addon works on 1.3.9 has NO DIRECT RELATIONSHIP to whether it works on PHP 5.3 ... or vice-versa.
Those are completely separate mutually exclusive factors.
An addon's compatibility with PHP 5.3 depends on whether the author of the addon paid attention to PHP 5.3 requirements, or even knew about them.
Zen Cart itself is compatible, but the addons must stand on their own.

ok, thanks for clarifying. But I thought one of the bennies of 1.3.9 was PHP 5.3.x compatibility. Sorry to get it wrong and possibly confuse the issue.:D

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
You're testing these ZC 1.3.8 add-ons on ZC 1.3.9, but to be totally sure about compatibility they all needed to be tested with PHP 5.3 too.
Are they tested using PHP 5.3 here?

Zen Cart itself is compatible (ie: what you get when you unzip it), but the addons must stand on their own.
An addon's compatibility with PHP 5.3 depends on whether the author of the addon paid attention to PHP 5.3 requirements, or even knew about them. If it uses PHP functions which are being retired, then there may be some problems using that addon.

Doesn't newsletter subscribe overwrite core files that have changed between v1.3.8 and v1.3.9? Did you manually merge the changes into the v1.3.9 core files?

Christian.

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
I would think a better thread would be for MODS that DID NOT work in 1.39. Most of the 138a mods should work as it is only a maintenance release.
That being said,
FedEx 145
Fast & Easy Checkout V173
Super Orders 2.0 Rev 48a
USPS Autofill
Comodo Corner of Trust
still adding more...
all work fine for me on a Fresh Install of 1.39

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
can i just ask.. when ppl are testing mods...
are they looking at which mods affect core files, then comparing said files of 139 to 138a?... then merging the mod core changes with 139?
because when i first started i was just uploading, not realising that i was adding mods and there injecting 138a code into 139.
Also if you note that, i can add it to the end of the list.. like the example in the next post
well done on getting FEC to work on 139, me and many others never manage to get it working fully on 138a lol

If they're not then their tests aren't terribly useful.

If a core file is used, I merge the changes into the 139 core file and test them that way. Like you said swguy, it would be a waste to just install them and overwrite the 139 core code.

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
You know you it will happen a lot by those that add mods to their new 139 store... if these mods dont get updated... or a notice is shown :D

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Easy Populate 1.2.5.7.csv
i cannot get this to work properly, when trying to upload products it only creates new categories if listed in the .csv file.. everthing else fails
checking the EP error logs returns
MySQL error 1054: Unknown column 'p.EASYPOPULATE_CONFIG_CUSTOM_FIELDS' in 'field list'
I am also unable to download a csv of all the products already on the site...
I have this working on 138a, so i dont know if this is just me being a poor zenner?...
-
Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Easy Populate 1.2.5.7.csv
to double check i just created a new test 138a store, uploaded the same files.. uploaded the same .csv and it all worked on 138a...
tried again on a clean 139 and failed again...
-
Re: 138 mods tested on 139
some weird stuff has happened to my 139 site after installing easy populate..
for 138a: in my Categories side box i can click on any link and all the products in that category appear...
for 139: while category count says their are X amount of items in that category, when i click on the category link,, nothing shows in about half the categories...
-
Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Sounds like you broke the master_categories_id in the products table or broke the relationships in the products_to_categories table ...
But ... debugging breaks on add ons is not the purpose of this thread so this is just a place to look while testing ...
-
Re: 138 mods tested on 139
say what?.. that's a bit technical...
the only thing i can debug is my windscreen LOL...
I started this thread to help those like me (none programmers) see what's what when it comes to upgrading as i'd guess 99% of people use at least a handful of mods on their store. Simply to give them a helping hand and a bit of confidence to upgrade from 138a.
i would be truely screwed if i came across an add-on that i used/needed and it broke/didnt work on 139, untill a kind clever person re-worked it!
It is the only way i can think of helping the ZC programme and the ZC community!
-
Re: 138 mods tested on 139
You are doing great ... testing the add ons will be a great help to people ...

Maybe you can mark this one off your list.
Great work by the way. Real world, boots on the ground kind of stuff. You've answered a lot of questions for me. Not to forget, high praise to all who have tested add-ons and posted what they found.
Thanks Tons

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Just a note about Image Handler 2, it works fine on ZC 1.3.9 beta but does need one file merging changes in to. It overwrites /admin/includes/modules/category_product_listing.php which has changed in v.1.3.9.

Christian.

I can save you the bother! :)
I've version 3.4.0 ready to release, with some nice updates (the new version adds Canonical URI support to Zen Cart and greatly enhances the language handling of Zen Cart! :) ).
I'll add the necessary override files for 1.3.9RC1 and release the new distribution sometime the week.
I'll also release updated versions of Ceon's other modules. Most of them require few or no changes for 1.3.9 as far as I can see.
All the best..

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
do people still want me to crack on with this?...
I'd have though that now 1.3.9a is officially released and stable that many of the developers of mods will be looking at their own creations a lot more in-depth than what i have done... and on a skill level that far exceeds mine!!!!!!!
Reworking them in ways that they know best!
-
Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Just a note - Improved Attributes Controller is not needed with v1.3.9 - functionality the mod provided is now included in the core file.

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
I will be hopefully getting thru a lot of mods this weekend...
however
a) Im pants, and you really dont want to take what i say as right
b) life this week has not gone as planned as work has been MENTAL! so i might just end up on a drinking binge and wake up in the gutter again.
c) get bored after 10 mods and sack it off! haha
but i will try by sunday to aim to have 20 mods done.
(unless i smash this PC up for running slow! 4Gb of DDR3 and Vista still runs like a pig!)

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
oh ya see, this worries me...
I have already got some of my tests wrong!
I said IH2 works great on 139, and while YES it works... in fact it mods a core file. and a core file that has been re-written since 138a...
so i replaced new code with old, and didnt notice until someone pointed this out!!!
and while i want to be helpful, i might be doing more harm than good...
SO i Stress, this thread is just a noobs documentation of what I got working.. Until the mods have been updated as 139a and PHP5.3 compatible by their authors in the downloads section.. any comments i make should be taken very very lightly and only intended as a starting block!!

I think you may have misunderstood my intent.. So let me be clear.. I have no intention of using this as an end all be all resource of what works and what doesn't.. For me, this thread is simply a guideline so when I begin MY OWN testing my updated Zen Cart code I know where the POSSIBLE gotchas might be.. I think it makes absolute sense for any one to make sure they do their own testing, and I for one will be using this thread as a guideline..

so i replaced new code with old, and didnt notice until someone pointed this out!!!
and while i want to be helpful, i might be doing more harm than good...
SO i Stress, this thread is just a noobs documentation of what I got working.. Until the mods have been updated as 139a and PHP5.3 compatible by their authors in the downloads section.. any comments i make should be taken very very lightly and only intended as a starting block!!

I have not misunderstood your intent at all, i am fully aware your ZC skill set outweighs mine! You are one of the Zenners i look to for advice.
you know where the possible gothas are!! but there are a LOT of new zenner arriving.. and even more zenners who just have a basic skill set to ZC (see general questions & First Steps).
That is what worries me, that i might give wrong information to people a lot less savvy than zenners like you... ultimately doing more harm than good!!.. to the noobs reading this and to the community. From my view point, their are what? several thousand active users?.. and what?.. 100 or so ZC Gods active on the forum? and a quick look in any mod forums you will see lots of questions asked that are answered in the mods FAQ or docs that come with said mod.
thats why im stressing to ppl that the mods i test, should be triple checked.. the mods other ppl has tested as OK and have been listed... fill ya boots.. they're a lot more knowledgeable!

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Has anyone had success converting the Dual Pricing/Wholesale mod to 1.39? I've been trying to carefully merge any changes into the new file versions using WinMerge ... but some of the files are so heavily different, I honestly can't tell what's mod-related and what are core changes!
I did not have any troubles adding
SuperOrders 2.0v48
Fual Slimbox
Contact Sidebox
Google Analytics
as others confirmed as well.

If anyone is successful with Google Checkout v1.4.7 please post here.
USPS is currently not working with Google Checkout at the moment. When I try to go through checkout with Google Checkout I get all shipping rates except for USPS.

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Cheers for that.. did any of these require any core files edits and edits of core files that have changed in 139?

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
To be totally clear, all these mods tested on ZenCart 1.3.9a, have they been tested on a PHP 5.3 server?

Entirely doubtful.
It would be helpful if everyone who tested 138 mods on 139 installs states her/his php version when they tested a mod.
That information should then be added to the list compiled so far.

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
not from me, my server run 5.2.9
to be fair, this thread is a rough guide... to help people get started.
pretty much ALL of the mods tested and listed in this thread need the authors/or a developer to update the mod information in the downloads section!
As yet, i have not come across any mods with the info in red below updated to 139 in the downloads section
Item Name Last Modified Z.C. Version Mod Version
this thread is simply a 'heads up' for people like me (non-programmers) to update their ZC stores.

SuperOrders requires core edits to be made in step 2 and 3. The file includes/classes/order.php is a mandatory edit, so you may want to winmerge it as there appear to be some additional core changes within the versions aside from the Superorder edits.
Step 3 has 'optional' changes, so if you want to implement those, I recommend winmerging those as well. I did.
Now back to my "dual pricing nightmare" ... and I though updating a customized Joomla site was a pain ... it's a cake walk compared to this! lol

No luck. Couldn't get real-time USPS rates with Merchant Calculated shipping; it reverts to the defaults.
Integration in my admin is gone too. Attempt at merging GC with the new orders.php file was a big failure.

Finally ... got Dual Pricing v1.6 "working" with some very intensive winmerging (as in about every file) ... the "working" in parenthesis as it still has quirks, but they are mod-related (it had some before the upgrade). I'll post it in the mod's support thread.
Again, tested on PHP 5.2.5.

do you think its best to put this in its own classification of 'ball ache, need updating for 139 big time?' lol
-
Re: 138 mods tested on 139
Google Checkout might qualify for the "ball ache" category. Some configurations seem to work ok, but it's definitely not fully compatible with 1.39a.

Possibly so ...lol. Having to merge each file is one thing, however I do think some of the routines will have to be rewritten in order for it to function 100% properly.

I created the USA version.. It is just a slightly modified version of the Australian one. So if the Australian one works, then it's MORE THAN LIKELY that the USA one works too..

I've added
Hidden Wholesale 2.0 (by Kuroi; requires Dual Pricing/Wholesale to be installed).
There are some subtle file differences, but the mod was nicely commented and not hard to merge at all. Work flawlessly. :)

FEC 1.7.3 works but there are changes to core files that are different than 1.3.8a, admin/orders.php and includes/classes/order.php (but it doesn't work on PHP 5.3.x to save anyone several hours of headaches even though it has nothing to do with 1.3.9a compatibility)

thanks swguy.. will amend the list with your input at the end of the day (GMT).
R.E. FEC, this does leave us in a pickle then... as i started this thread for noobs, and i believe this is too hard for a noob to add to 139.
so to keep the peace i will add a third listing

Re: 138 mods tested on 139
one more for the list...
http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...23&postcount=5
if you cant be bothered to click.. it says that IH2 is not PHP5.3 ready, as it used 'ereg' and Ultimate SEO URLs is broken on 139 and not PHP5.3 ready either. has the developer for this totally moved to ZM or is he still active in ZC?
thats a right bummer, IH2 is in my top 5 mods and my hosts are upgrading to 5.3 in a few months...

I tried and failed.. nothing changes.. could it be me...?
It does change a file that has been changed for 139 but the changes are so tiny that minumul winmerging study is required.

works on ZC139.
untested on PHP5.3
original install instructions are not very clear! You need to follow http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showpo...44&postcount=6 to get it working.

Though I haven't tested this yet, I do know that the Login Spruce Up mod is a cosmetic module which does NOT add or remove any default login functionality.. It simply makes the login page look pretty.. There would be NO reason why with a little extra review that you can't get this module to work with 1.3.9a.. Will post my suggests for how in the appropriate place, and post a link here later
This is NOT hard core programming at all.. this is simply looking at the three files and seeing what is going on and making the correct changes accordingly..

Judging by the amount Shane purports to Drink, I don't think we need buy him one.. perhaps a ticket to AA's !! :P:P:P:P:P
But yer, all jokes aside.... Fabulous job Ole' Chap..
I've just started the transfer from 1.3.8a to 1.3.9a and without this, I'd probably dived in head first, resulting in gaping wound, a fractured skull and remained lifeless for a week.!
For those Mods that are not (Yet) compatible for PHP 5.3 and or 1.3.9a, should we be giving the Mod Creator a gentle nudge and see what their stance is, as to whether they are intending to update it ?

But yer, all jokes aside.... Fabulous job Ole' Chap..
I've just started the transfer from 1.3.8a to 1.3.9a and without this, I'd probably dived in head first, resulting in gaping wound, a fractured skull and remained lifeless for a week.!

Some of these mods do not have active authors and/or have been maintained by the community.. so I'm not sure WHO you would gently nudge in the case of many of these mods.. For example IH2 doesn't have a "particular" author.. The last person who updated it simply compiled community posted changes, and is not necessarily "maintaining" the module.. The Login Spruce up mod hasn't been "maintained" in quite some time, and I'm not sure WHO you would contact at this point.. IMO the best course of action is to report compatibility issues in the support thread. Either the mod author or the community will do the rest usually..

And isn't that the idea of open source? Someone develops a mod and someone else further develops that mod....
I entirely agree to keep this thread going and report compatibilities - positive or negative.
