What is the best XAMPP version to use?
Hi all
I've had a scoot through the threads but can't seem to find a definitive answer.
I'm using Zen Cart version 1.3.8a - what is the best version of XAMPP to use for development installation on my local machine?
KH's book is based around ZC version 1.3.7, so not sure whether to use a later version than that stated in the book.
It seems that there may be something in the coding of the template that I currently use on my live site that doesn't like some of the mod's available - no matter what I try, they don't seem to work - even a mate of mine who is fairly skilled at this kind of stuff has trouble getting the mod's to work with my template.
So I reckon it's time to start again from scratch on a demo site, then once that is working OK, upload to the live server...
Thanks in advance.
Nick.

Two options: the latest for your local machine's operating system or the one that most closely matches the configuration on your remote server. Personally I'd go for the former.
The differences between 1.3.7 and 1.3.8a in terms of the server composition are minimal and all this isn't really addressing the underlying problems with not being able to make your unnamed mods work. I assume that you're trying to create a test system here so that you can pull things apart in an environment where it won't matter.

There's a free PDF update to the book that covers the changes from 1.3.7.1 to 1.3.8a and is available on our site here.

Excellent - thanks guys. Should be an interesting project to get my teeth into. It'll also hep me to learn more about Zen-Cart, which is ultimately what I want to do, so that as/ when I set up other sites, I can go straight in and configure them as to how I want them to be straight away.
Thanks again.
Nick.
