Hi; I have real problems installing templates.
I have a clean installation of 1.5.8 and am hosted by Hostgator.
Softaculous installs Zen Cart which appears fine, admin works and I can swap between templates via the admin board.
I have read various tutorials on how to install templates but neither method works.
Method 1: Put the bootstrap Zip file in root directory and unzip
Using the File Manager in Cpanel I extract the zip file but instead of unpacking it into the ZC folder it creates a sub folder MAC_OS (I use a MacBook) and puts the files there. I have not made any alterations to the zip file.
Method 2
This method suggests using file manager to upload the unzipped files include and admin. This does not work because the includes folder won't upload. I get an angry message saying it won't upload because includes is a folder. It uploads the zcadmin folder though. Both includes and zcadmin are set to the same permissions, 0755.
I have tried manually uploading all the files and subfolders but after several hours of that I have clearly made a mistake.
I know that Zen Cart is a challenge; I used it successfully many moons ago and am in the process of relearning.

Re: I can't install templates
I just tried unpacking bootstrap on the server (downloaded from https://www.zen-cart.com/downloads.p...2191&styleid=2) And these are the error messages that I get in the download.

Re: I can't install templates
Try downloading again; I just checked and it was fine.
Once you unzip the file, transfer the contents of the YOUR_ADMIN folder to your admin, and the contents of the includes folder to your includes.
Remember to rename YOUR_ADMIN to the name you are using for your admin so there won't be confusion.

Re: I can't install templates
The installation works but I can't add a template.
No offence to the writers of Zen Cart but the original templates are a bit unappealing.
I just can't get bootstrap to load.
This is the error I get when trying to upload the bootstrap zcadmin folder.

It feels like an infinite loop of doom;
10 instructions say upload the folder
20 older won't upload
Goto 10
Re: I can't install templates
It looks like you're doing some sort of drag and drop type operation. You need to get an FTP client and do a file transfer.

Filezilla is a pretty accessible tool. Try that.

You're using cPanel's File Manager to upload folders - this doesn't work because File Manager doesn't support it. You can only upload single files, not folders.
The advice swguy gave you is the best thing you can do - use an FTP client. Or, as an alternative, zip your folder before uploading, then upload the zip file and once it's uploaded, unzip it from File Manager (select file and click Extract).
Re: I can't install templates
You will need to learn how to use an FTP client to successfully manage a website. Yes, you can use zip/unzip but it's really better for you to master the basics at this point.
You can watch YouTube videos of people demonstrating Filezilla to become more comfortable with it.
Re: I can't install templates
Thanks - I used the CPanel file manager to transfer files, perhaps that is the mistake.
I've been using ftp since the late 80's; I have used cuteftp before; I'll try that.
I do think it is something with the file transfer.
Re: I can't install templates
Thank you.
I walked away from this and came back fresh at 9 this morning (my time).
The problem was that I was uploading with the file manager, not ftp.
I have gone with FileZilla. It took a little rooting around (pun intended) to set up the ftp account and directory structure!
45 minutes later all done with the bonus that I understand what I did...

Looks ok, now to learn the includes all over again, but first a back up.
