The typical way that this is suggested is to create a separate category to which all the products desired to be on sale have their master_categories_id set. Then the product remains linked to your desired category on which to display, the sale category is "disabled" at least from display but the product remains active and then the sale is applied to the sale category which is reflected back to your base/display category...Quote:

I have 100's of items in the categories...but on 3 items I want to exclude. To much work.

Then add to the products_to_categories table all of the products that are in the sale category (creates a linked product). Then set your sale to the sale category and remove from the category(ies) that had the three or four product.
