remove meta tag that shows on facebook?
I am wondering how to remove the meta tag that attaches itself to my site when someone copies my site name and posts on Facebook. I don't mind advertising for the developer some but to have their site and logo come up not only first but also much lager is rather disturbing. It is more of a promotion for their business than mine.
Re: How to remove meta tag
I'm thinking that the code link may be buried someplace in a css file or as an alt for an image or something because I removed it from the english.php file and it still shows-up....grrr...I don't mind giving credit where credit is due but I would rather advertise for my business than someone elses.
Re: How to remove meta tag
Is this happening from a link on your site or just someone adding your URL to their status?

This happens when someone copies my url and then tries to post on a site such as Facebook.

Above was copied and pasted from Facebook post, that is what shows up when you copy my URL and paste to a post there
Re: How to remove meta tag
Sorry I was tired this morning when I read your question, it occurs when someone posts my url to their status
Re: How to remove meta tag
Can't do anyting about that, thats just how facebook works. If the user on facebook then clicks the 'remove preview' button it removes all that from the post and just posts the url.

Hmmmm, well any idea where Facebook is pulling the information from? I would like to edit which of the photos it scrolls through, the code has to be somewhere because FB doesn't just randomly attach such previews

Stick the below in bold inbetween the other tags in your html_header.php file, and that will make it pull the correct info, tags and image from any page on your site.
<title><?php echo META_TAG_TITLE; ?></title>
<meta property="og:title" content="<?php echo META_TAG_TITLE; ?>" />
<meta property="og:type" content="product" />
<meta property="og:site_name" content="<?php echo STORE_NAME; ?>" />
<?php
if (isset($_GET['products_id'])) { // use products_image if products_id exists
$facebook_image = $db->Execute("select p.products_image from " . TABLE_PRODUCTS . " p where products_id='" . (int)$_GET['products_id'] . "'");
$fb_image = HTTP_SERVER . DIR_WS_CATALOG . DIR_WS_IMAGES . $facebook_image->fields['products_image'];
}
if ($fb_image == 'stickadefaultimagehere') { // if no products image, use the default image if enabled
$fb_image = '';
}
if ($fb_image != '') {
?>
<meta property="og:image" content="<?php echo $fb_image; ?>" />
<?php
}
?>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=<?php echo CHARSET; ?>" />
<meta name="keywords" content="<?php echo META_TAG_KEYWORDS; ?>" />
<meta name="description" content="<?php echo META_TAG_DESCRIPTION; ?>" />
<meta http-equiv="imagetoolbar" content="no" />
<meta name="author" content="" />
Re: How to remove meta tag
Thanks dgent, that does indeed work very well. Where would I got to edit the content of the preview if I wanted to keep the preview but edit what is written? This patch eliminates the preview entirely, I would like to keep the preview but be able to edit which photos are scrolled through and the written text.
Re: How to remove meta tag
Dgent, not sure what happened, but now it doesn't work, I checked immediately after making the revision and it worked, just checked again and it's back, grrrr
