Hi,
Is there any way to individually sort categories? I found the sort options in the admin section but none of them fits my needs. Could the ID # be used?
Thanks,
Ed

Each Listing has its own Sort Order setting ...
The Product Info also has its own setting for the Prev/Next ...
Doesn't the Products Sort Order work for you on these?
The available sort category suggestions in the admin section don't let me sort the categories in my particular order.
If you edit a Category there is a Sort Order ...
Did you enter the values for Sorting the Categories display?
The Products also have a Sort Order ... if you edit the Products you can add a Sort Order to them for how they should display within the Categories ...
I am not getting what part of the Sort Order isn't working ... have you perhaps an URL and explanation to what the problem is?
Here's the URL: www.veritechinc.com/Cart.
I want to sort the categories in the left column individually but I don't know how.
If you mean you want to sort these Categories:
CEDAS Documentation
CEDAS Individual Components
CEDAS Upgrades
CEDAS/CEM Hardware Locks
CEM Custom Packages
CEM Upgrades
EDU Pricing
SMS Complete Packages
SMS Custom Packages
SMS Hardware Lock Options
SMS Individual Components
SMS License Upgrades
in some other order rather than Alphabetical ... go EDIT each Category and enter a Sort Order for them ...
Example, go to your Zen Cart Admin and edit the Category:
CEDAS Individual Components
and change the Sort Order to 2000 ... depending on values you might or might not already have on your Categories it should move to the bottom of the list of Category names ...
EDITING a category IS the problem!
I see the list of categories, I click on the one I want to edit and, for the life of me, I can't find HOW to edit this particular category!
I know I'm dense at times and that may very well be the reason. :-)
When you see the Category Name ... click on the Big Green E on the same row as the Category Name that you want to edit ...
Oh man, am I stupid! I knew it was something in the dense dept.
Thanks a bunch.
Now if you could tell me how to move the shopping cart notice in the right column into a box like the category box on the left, you'd make my day. :-)
Ed
I'd go to the Tools ... Layout Boxes Controller ... and set that sidebox for the Left Column ...
This seems to be another one from the dense dept.
I'm not sure what the "Single Column Status" is supposed to mean. There are "Ons" and "OFFs" all over the place.
Ten to one, you do not ever use the Single Column setting so ignore it ...
Try using:
Quote:
Box Name: shopping_cart.php
Left/Right Column Status: ON
Location: (Single Column ignores this setting) LEFT
Left/Right Column Sort Order: 5
Single Column Sort Order: 30
Single Column Status: ON
That worked just fine!
I'm wondering why the shopping cart box looks so different between the two columns?
Since there is nothing in the right column, I might as well get rid of it, right?
Thanks a lot,
Ed
It is up to you if you use the right column ... it is all based on the sidebox that you have enabled and which column you want them turned on to display ...
I understand the concept but if I use your advice and just change the location from left to right it looks as it was before, no box, cramped in the upper right corner of the right column. That's what I don't get.
You have to design your site for what you want it to look like ...
If the columns are too small ... make them bigger ...
If you don't need a column on the right ... turn it off ...
You can make your site look anyway you want ... it is totally up to you what looks best for your Business and the Products that you sell ...
Ajeh,
Thanks a lot for all your help, I really appreciate that. I have been trying a new post but although I seem to be logged in, I can't post. It always falls back to the login window.
Maybe you can help me again?
I have customized the cart the way I want it but there's one thing that stumps me. If you look at http://www.veritechinc.com/order_new.htm, all the products show fine except in the categories where there is only 1 product listed. It does not show on the right as a product listing at all. If I enter a second product, everything works fine but not with one product? I've searched the tutorials and FAQs left and right but could not find an answer.
Thanks,
Ed
