my includes/configure.php can't change
I uploaded my site and needed to change something in the includes/configure.php It was read only and i tried to change the permission and so did my host and they tell me Zencart must be controlling this. Is there a way to change the permission so a change can be made ? I can change the file on my local but it won't allow me to replace the file on my host.
Re: includes/configure.php can't change
Check the ownership of the files-if the owner isn't you, then you won't be able to change the permissions.
(your host should have been able to see that problem immediately)
Re: includes/configure.php can't change
I am the owner and it wouldn't change for me, my host changed it for me and it changed right back to read only.

Got it figured out, thanks for the reply though Kim

Re: includes/configure.php can't change
It would be very helpful to understand how you fixed this problem as I am running into the same thing.
I'm unable to change permissions on the includes/configure.php file either through the control panel or via an FTP client - it keeps changing back to 444. My host says it's a Zen Cart protection feature. However, they were able to access the file as the root user and make the necessary change. Does this make sense? I see elsewhere in the tutorials that changing that file is necessary to set SSL to true so it doesn't make sense that it's not possible to change permissions on the file to allow editing.
Or am I missing something?
Thanks,
Penny
Re: includes/configure.php can't change
My host was also unable to change the permissions.
I renamed the configure.php to configure.php.bak
I then made a copy of the dist-configure.php file
Then edited the dist-configure.php file as neccessary and renamed it configure.php
Then i was able to delete the configure.php file.
Hope this helps.
Re: my includes/configure.php can't change
There is nothing in Zen Cart that would prevent the proper owner of the configure.php files from changing the permissions. Your hosts are incompetent.
