subcategories not working on main section of page?

I'm using Zen Cart 1.3.8a, I installed Zen and everything was working fine before I started importing items into mySQL db. I can see subcategories if i select them to work off of main left category menu but i can not for the life of me get them to populate back in the top of the main page.

Top level categories will populate to header if i choose to but no subcategories.

I really appreciate the help on this one as I'm about to pull my :censored: hair out (i'm sure its something dumb i'm just over looking).

ps. it is the same using both custom template or standard.

I guess Zen has a problem w/ products being in multiple categories and subcategories...? if i delete me products to categories tbl the subcategories will reappear...

anyone know of an addon to possibly fix this like creating a subcategory drop down?

Zencart has a problem with products and subcategories in a category. If you have just subcategories or just products in a category, you should be OK. Products can be either copied or linked in multiple categories and/or subcategories.

ok so i deleted the records in reference to one of top level categories and subcategories will show up... but it seems it doesn't like products in multiple subcategories either, so now it will show only one level of subcategories.

does anyone know if there is a drop down box subcategory mod that might work around this?

Far as I know, categories (or subcategories) can contain products or another level of subcategory, but not both.

There's this, but I doubt if it will allow what I think you want to do:

is it possible to not show subcategories on the sideboxes. I want to open the subcat on the mainpage (no dropdown on the subcat) like this:

Current:

T-Mobile
-Plans
-Phones

I want them

T-mobile | Plans Phones

Will there ever be a mod that will allow categories and subcategories to be together? I have it like that now, and been informed I will see problems with pricing, and I didn't until I wanted to do a sell, and can't with them listed like this. I would love to see something soon that would allow us to put categories and subcategories together. Any suggestions or ideas so in the meantime we can do something similar?
