Customer Login Page Password Box Width

On the login page for my customers, the width of the topmost password box (beneath customer email box) is very wide (size=71??), almost twice that of the email box (size=41??).

I would like both of these boxes to be the same width but am unable to find the control settings.

Is the width of this box determined by the longest password held on file. If so, where are these kept and how can they be deleted/edited.
