remove "Wide-Banners" from login and checkout pages

I would like to remove the wide banners from my login and checkout pages only (don't want customers to be distracted).

I have achieved to remove the sideboxes and the footer from these pages (modified my custom "tpl_main_page.php" as per suggestions) but can't get rid of the banners using the same method.
