I have removed the logo on the email_template _welcome.html and it is gone, but now I have these characters  Does anyone have an idea why and how to get rid of them?

Thanks for your help..would you have any idea what files might have become corrupt. This is a new install

When I click a catagory with a product in it it opens a plank page, Can I chnage it to show the products in the main page when clicked.
