i tried to create a test version of my site by doing the following;

in cpanel, copied my zc directory to \test_shop\
in phpAdmin, Operations, exported the zc1 database to test_shop_zc1...

thanks for that. I learnt to look for DB_SERVER_PASSWORD and that configure.php holds the keys to the castle, so i better look after it better from now on :-D
