I actually just changed:

define('ENABLE_SSL_CATALOG', 'true');
define('ENABLE_SSL_ADMIN', 'true');

to

define('ENABLE_SSL_CATALOG', 'false');
define('ENABLE_SSL_ADMIN', 'false');

I just did a normal install, and checked the "use SSL" box during installation. - I did this because the install said it detected SSL on my server. was I not supposed to do this? do I need to set SSL...

When I installed zen-cart, at one point there was a check box asking if I wanted to enable SSL. I checked it (probably should have left it alone) but I assume my problem is coming from that???

all I know is that SSL is enables on the server. it is a shared web hosting account. very typical. back end uses cpanel.
