How exactly are the options built in the shopping cart? Are they encased into a string (eg "text") first and echoed out or is there some other reason that variables as options get neutered somewhere...

Let me reiterate what I need this to do:
I'm building a site that's more or less like the cafepress.com concept...
I guess I should be clear on what it is doing...
It's printing the php like it was html instead of processing it. It does this even with the code blocks on (only then it's more like a comment)....

I'm trying to pass a value from a non-cart table as an option value so it is inserted into a cart table and shown in the checkout area, etc.
Is it possible to pass php code as an option value? I've tried entering in the following examples, but all it seems to do is to print the code into the html versus parsing it like it should.
