It appears to be SiteGround's fault. They recently clamped done on the MySQL timeout settings.

I took it up with them and they pretty well told me to upgrade to a virtual server or buzz off.

My website's DB is less than 10MB and my bandwidth is less than 1GB/month, yet they are pushing Virtual Server Hosting at me.
