How does customer specify quantity per attribute?

My client's store has quite a few items that offer a quantity discount. Most of these items also have color selections. So product A offers a yellow, green, and orange color option. It also has a quantity discount for 12+ purchased.

I have those specified on the product page. But in testing I don't see any way to pick colors. Following my example, I can't say I want to buy 5 orange product A, 5 green product A, and 2 yellow product A.

Am I missing the way this is done? How does my client's customer say how many of each color (or attribute) they want? I've tried searching the forums but I can't find anything or really figure out a good way to phrase this for search

You customer would set the attributes then add the quantity desired to the cart ...

If they want other settings, then they just click the link from the shopping cart back to the product and select more ...

Or, you turn off the Display Shopping cart and the product is added to the cart but the customer remains where they are and can add more ...

In that case I should change the attributes to radio buttons so they can't pick more than one color at once.

Another question. I tested this with a product that has a quantity discount of 5+. I added two products in green and 3 in yellow. Zencart is applying the discount for the 3 yellow buckets, but it's charging full price for the 2 green buckets.

Is there a way to remedy this? Or will my client just have to go back and refund customers every time because Zencart isn't going to realize that 3 yellow + 2 green is = 5 total for the quantity discount?
